“What was he thinking?” That’s what columnist Gail Collins asked about Barack Obama appointing James Johnson to head his vice-presidential selection committee. Johnson resigned Wednesday after complaints that he may have received sweetheart loan deals from Countryside Financial Corp. But as Collins noted, Johnson was already tainted from his time heading Fannie Mae. This isn’t a huge deal. And it is difficult for the McCain campaign to make any hay over it, given the number of lobbyists it has had to dismiss. Still, what was Obama thinking?

Didn’t the last honest person leave D.C. many, many years ago?
One has to wonder if these politicians think we average Americans are just stupid or what. But it is true that both Obama and McCain have their own set of suspicious people working in their campaigns. So really, what is good for the goose is good for gander? But it still does not make it right.
And then we wonder why decent, moral people do not want to run for public office. Can you blame them?
How is the rest of the Keating Five doing these days?
I suspect the choice of Johnson was a sop to the old-line Democrats. He was obviously the third guy and you could be pretty much assured his choice would have been out-voted.
I’ve served on committees where there was one member who always got it wrong, but their objections were consistently so stupid they’d reassure the majority’s opinion, just by objecting to it.
Admittedly, that sounds cynical, but it’s reality. And nothing is more cynical than reality.
For those longtime deeply-entrenched Democratic Party stalwarts, the relatively unimportant role of vetting a lot of vice-presidential candidates — and having that appointment be subjected to scrutiny way early in the campaign — serves to tell the party there’s a new sheriff in town. It has all the elements of good back-room political savvy, a quality and attribute that would serve any president well.
Hawk:
…nothing is more cynical than reality.
I’m ‘a gonna steal that quote.
Thanks. Dennis

The sign outside of Big Whiskey says that you have to check your firearms before entering.
The sign outside of Washington D C says that you have to check your honesty before entering.
Speaking of running-mate vetting –
Turns out that Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is a part-time exorcist!
He’s driven out demons! He’s cured cancer! He’s made the blind walk and the lame to see!
Jindal is the closest thing to a person of color the Republic Party can come up with. (He’s of Indian heritage; dot-Indian, not feather-Indian, for all you Monty Python fans.)
Jindal is probably too young to run with John Sidney McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) since anyone who’s been born since the Truman Administration looks like a kid next to McSame’s decrepit cancer-ridden jowl-bagged mug. And more than a few CONservative bloggers have expressed worry that Jindal might turn into a mocha-latte version of Dan Quayle.
But it turns out Jindal is all too willing to doo-doo that Voodoo that he do so well; driving out demons, curing cancer, and maybe getting to be a heartbeat away from John WMD McCain’s septuagenarian presidency.
Good luck with that ticket.
Monkeyhawk,
Indeed. Jindal’s a lead-pipe cinch with the Fundos; he’s got all the dogwhistles just right. Between casting out demons and bringing in Intelligent Design, he’s their man.
Too bad he’ll drive the moderates away like the plague. Can you imagine THAT slick nutjob a heartbeat away from the Presidency?
“CF2K” –
It’s turtles, all the way down.
What was he thinking?
More like IS he thinking?
This IS minor, and caught quick. But Obama can’t keep making mistakes like this.
We’ve seen in the past, if the cons can get their teeth in something, they never turn loose.

This is par for the Obama Klan. They are always “fer” something before they are “agin” it.
Obama’s next announcement will be Kook-cinich as the new Secretrary of Defense, so he can re-open ‘Project Bluebook’ to investigate UFO’s.
Reverend Jeremiah Wright will be appointed Chaplain of the Congress.
William Ayers, the unrepentant Weather Underground, will be appointed as Director of Homeland Security, figuring that Ayers is an expert at bombing people.
William “Freezer” Jefferson, will be appointed Secretary of the Treasury, so he can just print his own money for cold storage.
Sandy, “Documents in my trousers,” Berger will become head of the NSA.
John,”I sent my kids to private schools,” Conyers, will become the new Education Secretary so he can end the private voucher program.
Kathleen, Coal Plant, Sebelius, will be appointed as Secretary of Energy inflicting her old gray mare philosophy on the nation.
He does’nt think…period.
I heard he didn’t have too as he was the anti-christ :-)
“I heard he didn’t have too as he was the anti-christ”
What a wonderful, witty, intelligent comment there, Jack. Is your last name “Off” by any chance?
The last time I heard such witty commentary, it came from a guy that went by Jack Off – I just wondered if you were the same guy.
Jack posts: “He does’nt think…period.
I heard he didn’t have too as he was the anti-christ”

Notice the high level of lack-of-intelligence in this post. Can’t spell, doesn’t know the difference between too and to, doesn’t know where the apostrophe belongs in a contraction…
Then makes a claim with no back-up, just an opinion of someone who can’t spell and doesn’t know how to use English properly. Maybe s/he is an illegal immigrant and still learning this country’s language? Maybe shouldn’t post about the ability to “think.”
Johnson, who?
Yawn . . .
This is just another in a long line of poor decisions by B Hussein Obama.

The poster who claims he looks like Robert Redford. LOL…
The least of our problems.
What was Obama thinking? Excellent question. Check out his own words from his books….
From Dreams of My Father: ‘I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.’
From Dreams of My Father : ‘I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.’
From Dreams of My Father: ‘There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.’
From Dreams of My Father: ‘It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.’
From Dreams of My Father: ‘I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa , that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.’
From Audacity of Hope: ‘I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.’
No. It’s Brad Pitt.
It’s always been Brad Pitt. Redford is too old and too scruffy.
Brad Pitt.
sheesh
So Taz, did you get those quotes from your copies of Obama’s book, or did you find quote mines from some right wing website?
Anybody want to take bets on this?
Should be “books”.
“No. It’s Brad Pitt”
I thought everyone said that you looked like Yassar Arafat, but with bad breath.
My bad.
But I am glad that you made bail, Goofnutz!
Well, Taz, try some facts on for size.
