“God, Republicans are saps,†columnist David Brooks wrote. “They think that they’re running against some academic liberal who wouldn’t wear flag pins on his lapel, whose wife isn’t proud of America and who went to some liberationist church where the pastor damned his own country. They think they’re running against some naive university-town dreamer, the second coming of Adlai Stevenson.
“But as recent weeks have made clear, Barack Obama is the most split-personality politician in the country today. On the one hand, there is Dr. Barack, the high-minded, Niebuhr-quoting speechifier who spent this past winter thrilling the Scarlett Johansson set and feeling the fierce urgency of now. But then on the other side, there’s Fast Eddie Obama, the promise-breaking, tough-minded Chicago pol who’d throw you under the truck for votes.â€
Brooks cited several “Fast Eddie†examples, including not voting on controversial issues while an Illinois lawmaker and a U.S. senator, and his decision this week to opt out of public financing of his campaign.
“All I know for sure is that this guy is no liberal goo-goo,†Brooks wrote. “Republicans keep calling him naive. But naive is the last word I’d use to describe Barack Obama. He’s the most effectively political creature we’ve seen in decades. Even Bill Clinton wasn’t smart enough to succeed in politics by pretending to renounce politics.â€

Remember when the CONs used to rail against taxpayer-funded elections? Back when Newtie Gingrich and Tom DeLay were auctioning off the best government money could buy during the “K Street Project?”
The Obama so-called “flip-flop” is an absolute non-issue compared with McC*nt flip-flopping on the Shrub “no-billionaire-left-behind” tax breaks, torture policy, the 100-year war in Iraq (or all troops back by 2013), his rejection-then-embrace of radical evangelicals…
The reason Republic Party fat cats aren’t contributing to McBush is they have no confidence he will actually serve the third term of George WMD Bush. McC*unt has been all over the board with his “principles.”
Notice how the liberal above tries to divert the attention away from the subject, one he doesn’t want exposed or to be even considered, that of Obama being “the most split-personality politician in the country today…who’d throw you under the truck for votes.”
Typical of a liberal with an attitude of ‘don’t confuse the issue with facts, simple think what I think and nothing else’.
“But then on the other side, there’s Fast Eddie Obama, the promise-breaking, tough-minded Chicago pol who’d throw you under the truck for votes.”
Geez, you mean like he threw the LGBT community under the bus in South Carolina by having the heinous donnie mclurkin PREACH and HEADLINE a fundraiser for black evangelicals? And then pandered back by saying he supports gay rights, but not gay marriage?
Yeah. Seems like I’ve mentioned that once or twice here…
God save me from agreeing with David Brooks, but ya know, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. And I mean really….
what am I to believe? Barack’s oh so pretty words? Or his actions with mcclurkin, kirbyjon caldwell, mary mary, hezakiah walker, etc.
CYNTHIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama the liberal candidate for all of us communist people. Elect this guy and regret it for years when the terrorists rejoice and our pocketbooks are empty from all the increased social programs and taxes.
“Boxlock” shows up with –
“…the liberal above tries to divert the attention away from the subject, one he doesn’t want exposed or to be even considered, that of Obama being “the most split-personality politician in the country today…who’d throw you under the truck for votes.”
The “Straight Talk” Express has many carcasses bleeding in its wake.
As with so many CON decisions over the past 7-and-a-half years, you guys don’t understand what you’re dealing with. You want Obama to be a Muslim, but it turns out he’s attended the Church of Christ for twenty years. Four seconds of a sermon from 2003 at that Church of Christ somehow means Obama wants God to damn America. He’s Harvard, so he’s “elite.” He plays basketball and knows what cocaine feels like, so he’s a street thug. He’s got a weird-sounding name, so he’s the Islamic Manchurian Candidate (so long as you ignore the real former Prisoner of War; I mean, have any of you people actually seen the movie?!)
He whupped the Clinton machine. Think that doesn’t take some political savvy?
That takes political skill that goes down to the grassroots, to volunteers who campaigned in Iowa and Kansas and North Carolina and attracted millions of small-dollar contributors that negated the corporate fat cats’ mega-donations.
McC*nt talked a good game about campaign finance reform. Obama walks the walk.
As Buckminster Fuller would say (Read you Dymaxion theory people!!!):
Obama is a verb.
Monkeyhawk, do you have anything positive to say about anyone except your hero, the radical left-wing sycophant? I’m sure Barack HUSSEIN Obama grew up worshipping the Black Panthers. Monkeyhawk, when you’re paying $6 for gas, when you’re paying twice as much in taxes as you are now, when terrorists are taking free shots at Americans, when North Korea and Iran are building up their nuclear stockpiles, and when Tiller the Baby Killer has unfettered access to the White House, you’ll be loving life, won’t you?
He did not WHOOP the Clinton machine, he barely eked that win by and wouldn’t had if Florida and Michigan been allowed to revote.
I actually agree with the article. But that’s going to make him a better candidate. He’s got to be able to twist and roll with the punches, reinvent himself, be all things to all people.
Look at Bush and McC**unt. I know Bush holds his ground no matter how wrong he is, but he’s certainly blown the top off the spending. That’s not a conservative ideal. McC#unt has turned out to be almost a Bush replica, except he has become the biggest flip flopper of all. His ability to run against the Bush admin on a number of issues made him at least palateable to middle and middle left voters. Not anymore.
We’re still under Republican rule, we can’t undo anything they’ve done, and you blame the dems for the $4 gas? Tool.
You know, anytime I really want to freak out the whacked out right, I’m gonna get me a necklace with a photo of Tiller and use it the way someone would scare a vampire.
Back neocons back, I have the power of TILLER!
Geez.
I don’t trust him.
He talks like a Republican.
“He whupped the Clinton machine. Think that doesn’t take some political savvy?”
What? He won where a Democrat cannot win?
Maybe it’s because he is planning to prove he is no Democrat.
“Maybe it’s because he is planning to prove he is no Democrat.”
We can only hope you’re right JR.
P_moma, the Dems control both house of Congress, and whether we can explore for oil off the coasts and Alaska. They are saying no…so it’s $4.00 gas.
So you vote for him Boxy.
Roll the dice. Spin the wheel.
What I KNOW is he wants to work with people like you.
I’d rather hit you with a chair.
What I don’t know is IS he you in disguise?
Oh and the price of gas?
Why does it keep going up an there are no shortages? We are being gamed.
Them that’s doing the gaming are the making money on money crowd. To whit, the cons.
“ICTisInferior” inspires us with –
“Monkeyhawk, do you have anything positive to say about anyone except your hero?”
Actually, I do.
From this distance and upwind, “Boxlock” doesn’t stink as bad as you’d expect.
;-)
Obama came out of one of the most corrupt political arenas in this country and you think he’s going to be honest? Please. Obama should pick Kathleen, they’re both corrupt, self-centered schemers who care only for themselves.
Landslide!

What is this? Snarky Saturday?
“I’m sure Barack HUSSEIN Obama grew up worshipping the Black Panthers.”
I’ll take “ridiculous con statements” for $200, Alex.
Actually, if you do a little research, you’ll find that HUSSEIN was an ally of the US after the Arab/Israeli War ended and was an enemy of terrorism. He forcibly removed the PLO from his country. He was a friend to Israel and actually spoke at the funeral of Yitzhak Rabin.
Look it up, it’s all true…………………
Hussein bin Talal, King of Jordan

I love it when I can bring out the best in people. I know it doesn’t seem like much reading their posting here, but you should read some of them, these are an improvement.
Note the exquisite intellect applied to their opinion and arguments.
WOW!!!
Ah kfg, I’m surprised no one has come up with the song made famous by Queen and Freddie Mercury, Radio Ga Ga.
Here’s goo goo gooing at you kid…
:)
Radio Ga Ga
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9WxNhgrJv-8
I’d sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
Radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds — invaded by Mars
You made ‘em laugh — you made ‘em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
So don’t become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don’t know or just don’t care
And just complain when you’re not there
You had your time, you had the power
You’ve yet to have your finest hour
Radio
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what’s new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
Yeah, well, “Boxlock” –
As Paul Proteus (read your dystopian fiction, people!) would say, “Keep fighting that one last fight for the old values.”
Monkeyhawk,
Conservative Biblical values will NEVER go away…they are eternal.
Conservatives at least acknowledge that and try to live them even though human and subject to frequent failure. They will at least look to a higher goal to try and attain.
Liberals throw it all out for ‘relativism’ and hence try to make themselves God. But they aren’t God. Their efforts toward that is the work of fools.
No “the old values” will never go away, but those throwing them out will, and as they say…’that’s a fact Jack’, or in this case Monkey.
“Liberals throw it all out for ‘relativism’ and hence try to make themselves God.”
Oh, bullshit…………………..
Come on, you can do a LITTLE better than that.
Over the top much?
WS,
Do you recognize there is a God you must answer to?
Do you feel God has given his creation the tools and guidance to live according to his design?
If so where are they found?
Or do you feel you have to answer only to yourself?
Do you feel you have the answers?
“Boxlock” comes down from the mountain to proclaim –
“Conservative Biblical values will NEVER go away…they are eternal.”
You’ll like this. It’s a cut-and-paste from the Internet.
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them.
1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev.15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some room for negotiation here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted disciple and adoring fan…
Or, as Ralph Waldo Emerson would say (Read your existentialists, people!!!):
“Good men must not obey the laws too well.”
George is still fighting communists! As I recall, communism traditionally involves confiscating the means of production, i.e. government taking over factories and businesses.
I have looked at some of the Obama policies, and I have yet to find those proposals.. Can you help me out here, George?
I I love the playground bullies who make fun of someone’s last name!!! You guys are so cute. HUSSEIN HUSSEIN HUSSEIN LOL.
It’s a name, you tools. Same old tired songs every day…
“Do you recognize there is a God you must answer to?”
Yes, although I am not a Christian.
“If so where are they found?”
They are all around us.
“Or do you feel you have to answer only to yourself?”
Nope, and I have never claimed such either.
“Do you feel you have the answers?”
I have this answer, Boxlock – your judgmental, self-righteous, holier-than-thou attitude is disgusting and self-serving.
Who are YOU to judge ANYONE?
You set yourself up as judge, jury and executioner, yet you accuse LIBERALS of attempting to be God?
You, sir, are no better than Fred Phelps.
I’m not judging you WS, I’m asking questions of you and you are close to spontaneous combustion over it. You are obviously not very comfortable with those simple questions.
Sign of a troubled spirit.
I ask, “If so where are they found?”
“They are all around us”, you respond.
What does that mean WS? I ask “Do you feel God has given his creation the tools and guidance to live according to his design?” So what does your answer mean, where do we find them, name some.
I’m simply interested in where you look for guidance, if you are comfortable with it let us all know the sourse of your comfort and guidance.
Monkeyhawk, those ten questions are the funniest things I’ve read in a long time. My daughter was laughing really hard at #4, and I need an answer for #2. She was curious and I’ve got bills to pay.
MonkeyHawk,
You question deserves an answer, even though it was not ask in honesty and you added your own elements to ridicule.
The answer is one that would require space, so I suggest if you are actually interested in finding an answer, and not simply being sarcastic, you will look to this as a partial explanation.
http://thoughtsactions.wordpress.com/2007/07/02/which-old-testament-law-applies-to-christians-today/
“You are obviously not very comfortable with those simple questions.”
Bullshit.
“I’m simply interested in where you look for guidance, if you are comfortable with it let us all know the sourse of your comfort and guidance.”
I guess the part where I said that I believed in God kind of slipped by you.
“So what does your answer mean, where do we find them, name some.”
Easy. Your statement is obviously baited, however, every society has a version of the Golden Rule – “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
The High Priest, Rabbi Himel, at the time of Christ, stated that “it was the only law, everything else is just commentary.” Jesus, of course, used similar language during His Sermon on the Mount.
It is all around us, if we just look for it. Or as Bob Dylan so eloquently stated, “the answer is blowin’ in the wind.”
“Sign of a troubled spirit.”
Again, you presume to have the authority to judge.
My spirit is doing just fine.
But, thanks for asking, Phred.
Oh goodie! We’re going to solve the God question today!!!
Thanks For posting that, MonkeyHawk.
You left out that Cain planted crops while Abel practiced husbandry. God was displeased with Cain’s sacrifice of crops. He explicitly commanded a blood sacrifice. Crops are bad then right?
Moses was scolded for sriking the rock instead of speaking to it causing water to gush forth. Striking a rock is then bad right?
The constitution protects the right to free Speech. So my neighbor can threaten to kill me every time he sees me right? Shouting fire in a crowded theatre? that’s okay too. It’s only speech and that is protected.
The constitution protects the right to bear arms, but as Monkeyhawk has foolishly brought up before, prisoners locked up for violent crimes are denied to the right to bear arms. The constitution must be wrong or the prison guards are unconstitutional. Which is it?
Only if you foolishly read the Bible or any other document without understanding the full context derived from whole document as well as the cultural timeframe in which the document was originally written, is willful ignorance fully revealed.
“the answer is blowin’ in the wind.”
Exactly.
That generates a lot of confidence.
WS, that’s all you are too, ‘blowin in the wind’.
Louis Black ponders why the God of the Old Testament was such mean ol’ SOB, and the God of the New Testament is so loving and kind. Black speculates that the birth of his Son may have mellowed God out…..
“That generates a lot of confidence.”
For whom? And why should I care about your confidence level.
The point was relatively simple, but it obviously went over your head.
There is one law that has meaning – “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Everything else is a matter of personal belief and/or prejudice.
That answer is a part of every society that has ever existed. The societies that have failed have failed to heed that answer.
That answer can be found EVERYWHERE, not just the Bible or the Qu’ran or the Torah or the Five Paths.
That answer may be “blowin” in the wind” or found at the top of the mountain or heard during the Sermon on the Mount.
As I said, it is all around us, if we just open our eyes, which you obviously are not capable of doing.
But thanks for playing, Phred.
“Liberals … try to make themselves God.” !! SPITTING UP MY COFFEE !!!!! LOL LOL
Did he really write that down? This is one powerful intellect we are dealing with here… LOL…. I love the comedy writers who pose as right-wing Christians….
Oh goodie! We’re going to solve the God question today!!!
No, David. Not until they answer my question regarding where heaven and hell are located. The previous answers were cute, but I was serious. If I’m going to one of these places, I want to know where they are.
Do I need to repost my question?
“Boxlock” links to a website –
http://thoughtsactions.wordpress.com/2007/07/02/which-old-testament-law-applies-to-christian
…which betrays anyones belief in Biblical literalism by explaining that all those “laws” in Leviticus were a jumble of theological felonies, misdemeanors and parking tickets.
Spare ribs or shrimp cocktail? They’re misdemeanors (or like a paring ticket in some states). God isn’t gonna damn you for that.
But fall in love with someone of your own gender? You go to Hell!
It all depends on whether those were God’s felonies or God’s parking tickets… and how much you like to eat barbecue.
As Jacobus Henricus van ‘t Hoff said (Read up on your theoretical mathematics, people!!!):
“Ya got nothin’, ‘Boxlock.’ Deal with it.”
We all know, thanks to Mel Brooks, that there were actually FIFTEEN Commandments, but Moses dropped the third tablet, leaving the last Five Commandments in mystery for five millenniums.
a special team of archeologists, however, have recently found the missing tablet and have translated the previously missing “Lost Commandments.”
They are……………….
11. – Thou shall vote Republican, that your days shall be filled with hate for your fellow man.
12. Thou shall not butt-phuck.
13. Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s weenie, nor attempt to engage in oral copulation with thy neighbor’s weenie. If female, thou shall not covet they neighbor’s carpet.
14. Thou shall make and keep as much money as possible, even to the detriment of your neighbor, your neighbor’s slaves or your neighbor’s ass – especially your neighbor’s ass.
15. All Commandments are negotiable if you are a Republican, if you are a Democrat, not so much.
The “Lost Commandment” project was funded by the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, the Family Research Council, Focus on Family, Richard Mellon Scaife and Rupert Murdoch
DavidB,
You are a mental midget. And I imagine you spend a great deal of time “spitting up” things like coffee.
Anyone who imagines God as they want Him to be, relative and variable, and lives according to their own impulses is making themselves their own god.
And Monkey, I’ve got something…you have nothing, at least yet, hopefully you will gain it to.
“Anyone who imagines God as they want Him to be, relative and variable, and lives according to their own impulses is making themselves their own god.”
So, Phred, how do you know that your “book” is correct and all of the other “books” are wrong?
Eh?
I think it very interesting to note there is such hate and resentment directed toward anyone of faith, or that brings up anything related. It’s a matter of interest because anyone comfortable with their condition of faith doesn’t react like that, no need to, they realize the other argument is just sadly mistaken.
There seem to be several here quite upset anyone would express their ideas related to a higher power than they themselves and really spend quite a bit of emotion and energy attempting to, as I said, make gods of themselves.
Got errands to run….by.
Not by…bye.
“energy attempting to, as I said, make gods of themselves.”
If I were God, I would be driving a Range Rover and a Road King – and George WMD Bush would be cleaning swimming pools for an African American, married lesbian couple in Massachusetts for minimum wage.
And Phred Boxlock would be his “pool boy.”
So what is David Brooks saying? That Obama is able to out-Clinton Clinton? That he is a ruthless Chicago SOB who can act nice?
I’ve never heard of a “Liberal Goo Goo”. Maybe he could somehow modify Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga”; since WS brought up homos.
So what is the purpose of this post? I dunno, what is the purpose of this thread?
I look upthread now and see Regular has ready brought up Radio Ga Ga. Kinda scary.
“since WS brought up homos.”
I brought it up because a reference to your unfounded bigotry irritates the Hell out of some of you folks.
Homos? Your nomenclature is about twenty years out of date…………….
I have decide that I won’t use the stolen word “gay” to describe homos. Much literature and music was ruined when the word was misappropriated. It is the principle, not because I want to insult. I could use words that do that if it were my intent.
I will use lesbian, because it was not stolen.
Well, thought the Radio Ga Ga was worth a mention being it as the words “goo goo” in the lyrics. The song was supposed to be about the event of TV taking over radio in the music era of the 1980s.
However, the song became popular, because of the chorus invoked crowd participation.
I thought it fit the Obama genre quite well, as Obama-ites use old cliches and participate in the election not as citizens but supporters of a some sort of political rock star.
radio liberal goo goo…
WS,
Boxic doesn’t make god out of himself, he makes him out of his abusive control-freak dad whom he’s still absolutely terrified of, and still idealizes. Classic Freudian Oedipus complex compounded.
“Much literature and music”
What music and literature?
“Don we now our gay apparel?”
What? A nice pair of Hugo Boss slacks, Gucci Loafers and a 100% cotton turtleneck?
Barack Obama will soon be facing an important test of his mettle–I’m surprised no one’s seemed to notice.
“Given the grave threats that we face, our national security agencies must have the capability to gather intelligence and track down terrorists before they strike, while respecting the rule of law and the privacy and civil liberties of the American people. There is also little doubt that the Bush Administration, with the cooperation of major telecommunications companies, has abused that authority and undermined the Constitution by intercepting the communications of innocent Americans without their knowledge or the required court orders.
“That is why last year I opposed the so-called Protect America Act, which expanded the surveillance powers of the government without sufficient independent oversight to protect the privacy and civil liberties of innocent Americans. I have also opposed the granting of retroactive immunity to those who were allegedly complicit in acts of illegal spying in the past.
“After months of negotiation, the House today passed a compromise that, while far from perfect, is a marked improvement over last year’s Protect America Act.
“Under this compromise legislation, an important tool in the fight against terrorism will continue, but the President’s illegal program of warrantless surveillance will be over. It restores FISA and existing criminal wiretap statutes as the exclusive means to conduct surveillance – making it clear that the President cannot circumvent the law and disregard the civil liberties of the American people. It also firmly re-establishes basic judicial oversight over all domestic surveillance in the future. It does, however, grant retroactive immunity, and I will work in the Senate to remove this provision so that we can seek full accountability for past offenses. But this compromise guarantees a thorough review by the Inspectors General of our national security agencies to determine what took place in the past, and ensures that there will be accountability going forward. By demanding oversight and accountability, a grassroots movement of Americans has helped yield a bill that is far better than the Protect America Act.
“It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as President, I will carefully monitor the program, review the report by the Inspectors General, and work with the Congress to take any additional steps I deem necessary to protect the lives – and the liberty – of the American people.”
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/06/candidates_resp.html
So he says going to try to get the retoactive immunity provision stripped from the bill, but his statement impiies that he will vote for it even if the provision remains intact. Not good.
Of course, McCain continues to adopt the scariest Bushian position he can, and is spouting predictable crap rhetoric (see the article). It’s time to make your opinion known–NOW. “Yes we can”–kill that provision, if we try. It needs to be made clear to every senator–especially you-know-who–that stripping this provision is worth killing the bill, if necessary and that having no bill is better than having a bill that allows the Executive to excuse private-sector crimes.
There are petitions, email, and good ‘ol postal letters (perhaps the most effective, with proper cc:s) available to influence to end result. Public pressure kept the first awful bill from becoming law. Let’s stop this now, folks.
Hell, I found this much with 15 seconds on Google:
To: Senator Barack Obama
Senator Obama:
On Friday, June 20th, an unconstitutional FISA update bill passed the House of Representatives, which will legitimize the Bush Administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. It will give extensive powers of surveillance to the executive branch and provide an avenue for retroactive immunity for the telecoms companies that illegally spied on American citizens.
As the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party–and most likely the next President of the United States–your words and actions in the Senate carry a lot of weight. Therefore, we ask two things of you:
1) That you speak out against the bill in its entirety and encourage other Senators to vote against it when it comes up for a vote in the Senate next week.
2) That when called to vote on the FISA Bill, that you vote against it in its entirety.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
http://www.petitiononline.com/bo90210/petition.html
P.S. Greenwald points out some of the other problems with the bill.
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/
. . .and I’m pissed.
P.S. Some of Greenwald, at length:
It is absolutely false that the only unconstitutional and destructive provision of this “compromise” bill is the telecom amnesty part. It’s true that most people working to defeat the Cheney/Rockefeller bill viewed opposition to telecom amnesty as the most politically potent way to defeat the bill, but the bill’s expansion of warrantless eavesdropping powers vested in the President, and its evisceration of safeguards against abuses of those powers, is at least as long-lasting and destructive as the telecom amnesty provisions. The bill legalizes many of the warrantless eavesdropping activities George Bush secretly and illegally ordered in 2001. Those warrantless eavesdropping powers violate core Fourth Amendment protections. And Barack Obama now supports all of it, and will vote it into law. Those are just facts.
The ACLU specifically identifies the ways in which this bill destroys meaningful limits on the President’s power to spy on our international calls and emails. Sen. Russ Feingold condemned the bill on the ground that it “fails to protect the privacy of law-abiding Americans at home” because “the government can still sweep up and keep the international communications of innocent Americans in the U.S. with no connection to suspected terrorists, with very few safeguards to protect against abuse of this power.” Rep. Rush Holt — who was actually denied time to speak by bill-supporter Silvestre Reyes only to be given time by bill-opponent John Conyers — condemned the bill because it vests the power to decide who are the “bad guys” in the very people who do the spying.
This bill doesn’t legalize every part of Bush’s illegal warrantless eavesdropping program but it takes a large step beyond FISA towards what Bush did. There was absolutely no reason to destroy the FISA framework, which is already an extraordinarily pro-Executive instrument that vests vast eavesdropping powers in the President, in order to empower the President to spy on large parts of our international communications with no warrants at all. This was all done by invoking the scary spectre of Terrorism — “you must give up your privacy and constitutional rights to us if you want us to keep you safe” — and it is Obama’s willingness to embrace that rancid framework, the defining mindset of the Bush years, that is most deserving of intense criticism here.
* * * * *
“So he says going to try to get the retoactive immunity provision stripped from the bill, but his statement impiies that he will vote for it even if the provision remains intact. Not good.”

Well Rage, sometimes you gotta throw the trial lawyers overboard. If that were Obama’s only pause, boy would he be vulnerable to allegations of being in bed with the trial lawyers. I mean more vulnerable.
In response to Jed’s post of June 21, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Case in point…Jed is just oozing hate and resentment to the point of using his imagination to create his own synthetic scenario about me that meets his need to strike out, as he is completely impotent to do so in reality.
Libs like to think they can debate. Actually, all they do here on the blog (most any way) is to start arguments, call names and generally attack the poster and not the topic being discussed.
If this were a real debate with speech monitors, most Libs would be escorted from the auditorium for misconduct.
As usual, Reguliar talks out his rear end through two straws that he once sucked up his nose.
(chortles)
How are those chocolate straws Liarboy?
Kapow…zing!
I like that Obama says that Republicans will play the “Race” card, Kinda moot point since he just played it first.
Wow.
Boxlock:
“Monkeyhawk,
Conservative Biblical values will NEVER go away…they are eternal.
“Conservatives at least acknowledge that and try to live them even though human and subject to frequent failure. They will at least look to a higher goal to try and attain.
“Liberals throw it all out for ‘relativism’ and hence try to make themselves God. But they aren’t God. Their efforts toward that is the work of fools.”
An admittedly selective, but I belive quite illustrative example of Boxlock’s response to people who constested his above post.
“DavidB,
You are a mental midget. And I imagine you spend a great deal of time ’spitting up’ things like coffee.
“Anyone who imagines God as they want Him to be, relative and variable, and lives according to their own impulses is making themselves their own god.
“And Monkey, I’ve got something…you have nothing, at least yet, hopefully you will gain it to.”
And then, here, we have Boxlock’s interpretation of the responses he has gotten. This is the portion to which I will be responding.
“I think it very interesting to note there is such hate and resentment directed toward anyone of faith, or that brings up anything related.”
You did not just make a statement that you are a person of faith. You explicitly did the following:
1) You discussed “faith” in terms of being conservative or liberal. In other words, you directly tied faith to politics, then made a direct assertion that conservatives have biblical values that will “never go away” and that at “conservatives least acknowledge that”. “Liberals” meanwhile, are all about “relativism” and “hence try to make themselves God”. Thus, you implied that only conservatives have faith. This is, by the way, a categorically false statement.
2) You also essentially stated that people who lack your particular conservative faith see themselves as gods and that their “efforts” are the “work of fools”.
Thus, at the very least you clearly posted insults to entire classes of people based on your perception of their agreement with your principles. This is hardly friendly behavior. It is also arguably every bit as hateful as the posting behavior of those you claim (to the extent that one can glean the emotional state of people from what they post).
Here, however, is the capper.
“It’s a matter of interest because anyone comfortable with their condition of faith doesn’t react like that, no need to, they realize the other argument is just sadly mistaken.”
You mean like reacting to DavidB by calling him a “mental midget” or to tell Jed that he is “just oozing hate and resentment”? Those are the reactions of a person who is simply realizing that the argument is mistaken? Those are the reactions of a person who is at peace with his beliefs?
By the way, let’s look at Boxlock’s very first contribution to the thread.
“Notice how the liberal above tries to divert the attention away from the subject, one he doesn’t want exposed or to be even considered, that of Obama being ‘the most split-personality politician in the country today…who’d throw you under the truck for votes’.
“Typical of a liberal with an attitude of ‘don’t confuse the issue with facts, simple think what I think and nothing else’.”
These are not simply pointing out a sadly mistaken argument, this is a direct attack on a group of people Boxlock dismisses as “iberals” and goes well beyond the argument to the presumed motivations of posting an argument. And if there are any doubts about Boxlock’s intent in the way he posts his arguments:
“‘I’d rather hit you with a chair’ by BlueJay and ‘From this distance and upwind, ‘Boxlock’ doesn’t stink as bad as you’d expect’ by the Monkey.
“I love it when I can bring out the best in people. I know it doesn’t seem like much reading their posting here, but you should read some of them, these are an improvement.
Note the exquisite intellect applied to their opinion and arguments.”
I don’t defend either Monkeyhawk’s or Bluejay’s words quoted above. On the other hand, I also don’t express glee from eliciting reactions from such people. You have, this time and multiple times before that, clearly expressed your delight and interest in provoking angry reactions from others. Which puts your haughty pronouncement…
“I’s a matter of interest because anyone comfortable with their condition of faith doesn’t react like that, no need to, they realize the other argument is just sadly mistaken.”
… in interesting perspective. Is going around posting insults and expressing glee about angry reactions the behavior of someone who is at peace with his beliefs and simply sees the other argument as “just sadly mistaken”? Do you really think you are representing your beliefs well in your posting behavior?
“WOW!”
Indeed. Irony impairement. Remarkable.
Note, in my previous post, I am really giving Boxlock credit for some sincerity in his beliefs, and that he is not simply a troll.
On the other hand this guy…
“Libs like to think they can debate. Actually, all they do here on the blog (most any way) is to start arguments, call names and generally attack the poster and not the topic being discussed.”
…I believe the apparent irony impairment is intentional.
Thus, the appropriate response here is…
Re: Regular
DNFTT
Face it, Obama is the worst choice for President of any candidate that ran. This man is being elected solely on the color of his skin because he doesn’t have an ounce of integrity. His lies continue to pile up and he follows the liberal goo-goo line even if this topic says otherwise.
Clark, yer on a ROLL today.
“If I were God, I would be driving a Range Rover and a Road King – and George WMD Bush would be cleaning swimming pools for an African American, married lesbian couple in Massachusetts for minimum wage.”

And Pre?
I’m not religious, but I do know the answer to your question.

Homo is a word usurped by straight people…

ksagnostic, seems to overlook who struck first in attacking. Any glee I express is simply in knowing I have struck a nerve and awakened them. They would not react as they do, and ksagnostic spend so much effort, if it were hitting at or close to the truth.

At least a mental midget has a sense of decorum most of the time. Is that insulting spewer one of the followers of that guy from Nazareth?
“if it were hitting at or close to the truth.”
Left out the word ‘NOT hitting at’, important distinction.
And agnostic, not to overly dismiss you but seriously, I have heard your stuff all before and simply don’t take, or waste, much time with it anymore. I am not generalizing and directing my statements at all liberals, I don’t know all liberals, but I definitely am to the ones here on this blog. I have family living on the ‘left’ coast and they consider themselves to be liberal, but they don’t resemble the near mindlessness and lack of character I witness here on the blog.
I just never met any liberal who wants to knock GOd from his Heavenly Throne and sit in it himself… I guess they must be true though, or that guy wouldn’t write it down for everyone to see.
I bet God ain’t scared of no liberals… but that Boxtop must give Him pause……
My feelings were actually hurt there for a minute, too.. Jesus!
I lack character and am mindless because I am a mental midget… at least Jesus loves me. This I know.
“I just never met any liberal who wants to knock GOd from his Heavenly Throne and sit in it himself…”
DavidB,
I suspect you have, frequently, you simply haven’t been paying attention though and not recognized it. Maybe because you are doing it yourself. It’s not confined simply to liberals, although it’s seen quite frequently among them.
Placing oneself in a god like position is to place self above all else. Not recognizing an authority over your life, being slave to emotion and impulse, seeking self-gratification and immediate gratification over patience and denial.
But you’re getting there when you say, “I bet God ain’t scared of no liberals…”, no He isn’t.
But I am they harm the country.
Wow!!!!! DavidB, you are a quick learner.
Congrats!
Now I’m going turn from personal self-gratification and leave this blog for dinner and getting things ready for guest the next few days.
So, as much as I know you decadent liberals will miss me, I must go. Hope you all have learned as much as DavidB, he’s coming along so nicely.
Wont miss your BS one bit… hope you get lost on your way back, too!!! And take your time, we can do a good while without your mindless BS, clogging up good band width!!
:-D
(pardon me while I puke)
Ya know, if Obama survives the race and religion baiting and wins with Democratic majority.. these guys are going to to go insane…
No kiddin!!! I can hardly wait!!
“Now I’m going turn from personal self-gratification and leave this blog for dinner and getting things ready for guest the next few days.”
In other words, Phred Boxlock just got his ass kicked and is going to retire to his study where is going to read his KJV to try to counter the debate points of those pesky liberals that just kicked his behind.
Ya know, if Obama survives the race and religion baiting and wins with Democratic majority.. these guys are going to to go insane…
I think that’s very possible, maybe even inevitable and given the decidedly creepier alternative, I hope so. What I’m more concerned about now is the same question I’ve been asking for years:
What happens after “we” win?
http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2006/04/one_constituent/#comment-35277
YOU didn’t bring out anything in me Boxy.
Obama did. He thinks people like you can be worked with.
I’d rather work people like you over!
“Conservative Biblical values will NEVER go away…they are eternal.
No “the old values” will never go away, ”
You are free to have your values and beliefs and other such primitive things which give you comfort.
You are also free to conserve them to yourself. Society is working every day toward the day when you will have to accept that.
The title of this blog is misspelled; should read: Obama is liberal Doo Doo.
Thanks for that thoughtful contribution, Mr. Hat.
By the way, Mr. Garrison is looking for you.
“ksagnostic, seems to overlook who struck first in attacking.”
I invite anyone to look upwards to the thread and look as to “who attacked first” with regards to Monkeyhawk.
As to Bluejay, he appears to have his own issues. He appeared to be contrasting the rage he expresses and expects from a good Democrat with what he sees as the conciliation from Barack Obama. In case you haven’t noticed, he ends up arguing with other “liberals” on this blog almost as frequently as “conservatives”, particularly when the subject is Barack Obama. The fact remains, you expressed self satisfaction at eliciting the “chair” response from him (even though I would have to admit in this case what you wrote hardly merited it).
“I am not generalizing and directing my statements at all liberals, I don’t know all liberals, but I definitely am to the ones here on this blog. I have family living on the ‘left’ coast and they consider themselves to be liberal, but they don’t resemble the near mindlessness and lack of character I witness here on the blog.”
Uh hun. Right. Let’s try this again.
“Conservative Biblical values will NEVER go away…they are eternal.
Sounds pretty generalizing to me. And I can tell you Boxlock, for an absolute fact, that this comment is a) insulting to liberals, b) emprically false with regards to liberals, c) insulting to non-theists and non-christians and d) empirically false.
“And agnostic, not to overly dismiss you but seriously, I have heard your stuff all before and simply don’t take, or waste, much time with it anymore.”
You’ve said all this before. Frankly, I am starting to consider this a form “argumentum ad I’m losing the argument on the playgroundium” i.e., “Oh yeah? Well I don’t care what you say!”.
d) emprically false with regards to non-theists.
heh empirically.
David B (sarcastically): “I lack character and am mindless because I am a mental midget… at least Jesus loves me. This I know.”
Boxlock: “So, as much as I know you decadent liberals will miss me, I must go. Hope you all have learned as much as DavidB, he’s coming along so nicely.”
Yeah, really at peace there Boxlock. Way to show how you are at peace with your beliefs.
I see the jawless fish slithered in the blog and slipped in some sanctimonious snarky comments.
Geez, boxlicker sure put on a poodle dance today, no?
Dance poodle, DANCE!
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher,
whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor
struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got
around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, ‘Well, ya know, Obama is a post turtle’. Not
being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post
turtle’ was. The old rancher said, ‘When you’re driving down a
country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced
on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he
continued to explain. ‘You know he didn’t get up there by himself,
he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up
there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there.
ksfarmgrrl,
I, as well as everyone else, realizes your use of the term “boxlicker” is a fantasy you are having about me, but it’s a waste of your time.
I wouldn’t come within a county of ya knowing that. You see, some people can control their base instincts, unlike you apparently.
agnostic, you really don’t get it, do you? I am beginning to think I am giving you to much credit for knowing what’s going on. I am having fun toying with your incredible intolerance and quite comfortable where I am, unlike you and several of the others.
Invite “boxed in” to your wedding kfg.
I’ll make sure he behaves himself.
Crying is ok at weddings! :)
“You see, some people can control their base instincts, unlike you apparently.”
Jealous, aren’t you Box Head?
Gee Jack, I heard that joke 3 years ago. Guess who was the subject then?
“I am having fun toying with your incredible intolerance and quite comfortable where I am, unlike you and several of the others.”
So, here are the Boxlock argumentative techniques.
1) I don’t care what you say!
2) Made you respond to me! Ha Ha!
As for intolerance, only one of us has been dismissing entire groups of people today, and it wasn’t me. I have confined my comments to you and your arguments. To be clearer, my comments are intolerant of your intolerant comments. Anything else is simply projection.
“So, here are the Boxlock argumentative techniques.
1) I don’t care what you say!
2) Made you respond to me! Ha Ha!”
What the hell, he deserves it.
The above strategy is consistent with someone who is getting his rhetorical ass kicked.
And THAT, ladies and gents, is indeed a snarky comment.
agnostic,
Do and say whatever you need to to maintain your fragile self-image.
Even if it’s ridiculous nonsense.
And it is.
agnostic,
If you really need to feel like you are capable of ‘kicking my rhetorical ass’ then please go ahead and feel that way. It’s fine with me.
Of course it has no basis in reality, but then what’s new with you.
This is an amazing accomplishment on your part, Box Head! In record time, without any apparent assistance, you have become a caricature of yourself – a virtual Box Head bobble head.
Simply amazing!
J R sings…
“He’s a livin’ in a box. He’s a livin’ in a cardboard box. He’s a livin’ in a box.”
Hey Boxic,
Don’t get yer knickers in a twist; I don’t hate you, in fact I find you mildly amusing from time to time. I just won’t put up with all the various brands of bigotry you try to peddle. What is it you christians claim to do, hate the sin but not the sinner?
Box Head got that all mixed up…………….
He loves the “sin” but hates the “sinner.”
Actually, he has grown quite fond of a few of the “sins.”
Isn’t it amazing all the attention I generate whether trying or not.
Seems the only life some of you ‘losers’ have is getting on my case, proof is in excess right here.
I don’t mind, in fact I kind of relish it anymore for I feel the more time you spend responding to me the more time you spend showing yourselves to be small minded and intolerant, the very characteristic you denigrate me with.
But like simple minded moths drawn to a flame, you simply can’t resist.
Well I see there was an encore performance from the blog’s dancing poodle after I left last night. Heheheheh. I think he/she needs to learn a few new moves. Ksag was correct in the critique of the poodleposts.
But back to the subject…
Think obama wont say or do ANYTHING to get elected, no matter who he throws under the bus? Geez, this guy isnt just running to the right. He’s taking the express train.
This is worth the read.

Well, I see the laughing jackass is back. Who’s opinion is always highly valued…cough, cough.

Dance poodle dance!
Hey farmer,
Did you read your own post. He has held and expressed that position for quite sometime.
“Sen. Obama said, “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman,” shortly after being asked if he opposed same-sex marriage, to which he responded, “Yes.”
“This positioning is not new for Obama. He has uttered those words plenty — during a debate with Alan Keyes in 2004, on the Senate floor in 2006, even in his 2007 Human Rights Campaign candidate questionnaire.”
Maybe I need to rethink my position a little on this guy. At least we have one thing in common.
Wow, farmer….who ya gon’a vote for now, you don’t get what you want with either candidate.
I don’t care what you do with your life, it’s your business, but ya can’t redefine marriage as it’s stood for thousands of years for the rest of the world.
Poodle boy, I’ve never been an obama supporter precisely because that is the position he’s held for so long. His actions say homophobe while his words say panderer.
And gee, who have I been SAYING I would vote for?
CYNTHIA!
Not only are you as obnoxious as a dancing poodle, yer as dumb as one too.
Do you have curly hair? Or just a poodle cut?
“But back to the subject…”
Hey, what a thought.
“Think obama wont say or do ANYTHING to get elected, no matter who he throws under the bus? Geez, this guy isnt just running to the right. He’s taking the express train.”
Honestly though, ksfarmgrrl, I haven’t seen any evidence that Hillary Clinton would have been any different. Hillary Clinton was as pragmatic and opportunistic a candidate as I have seen (and no, that assessment has nothing to do with her gender, I am talking about specific examples of her behavior) The game is being seen as playing to the middle, and both Obama and Clinton would have been likely to have done this. I disagree with both of them on the marriage issue.
That being said in answer to your rhetorical question, no, I don’t think there is ANYTHING that Obama won’t do to get elected. In fact, while he has definitely done some pandering, I honestly didn’t see as much from him as I saw from Clinton or McCain.
BTW, the Advocate article was an excellent analysis, in my opinion.
As for Boxlock, I would simply point out, look at highly nasty and personal nature of his response to ksfarmgrrl’s attempt to get this thread back on subject. Boxlock, your behavior is speaking for itself.
So Ksag, thanks for making my point, which is that obama is no saint. He is JUST LIKE Hillary, et al.
Change indeed.
…and sorry to divert again, but I cant resist poking the poodle.
This is from the Rupert owned, highly conservative Wall Street Journal. Heheheh.

OPINION
Gay Marriage Is Good for America
By JONATHAN RAUCH
June 21, 2008; Page A9
By order of its state Supreme Court, California began legally marrying same-sex couples this week. The first to be wed in San Francisco were Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, pioneering gay-rights activists who have been a couple for more than 50 years. More ceremonies will follow, at least until November, when gay marriage will go before California’s voters. They should choose to keep it. To understand why, imagine your life without marriage. Meaning, not merely your life if you didn’t happen to get married. What I am asking you to imagine is life without even the possibility of marriage.
(snip)
What is this weird world like? It has more sex and less commitment than a world with marriage. It is a world of fragile families living on the shadowy outskirts of the law; a world marked by heightened fear of loneliness or abandonment in crisis or old age; a world in some respects not even civilized, because marriage is the foundation of civilization… Even a moment’s reflection shows the fatuousness of “Let them eat contracts.” No private transaction excuses you from testifying in court against your partner, or entitles you to Social Security survivor benefits, or authorizes joint tax filing, or secures U.S. residency for your partner if he or she is a foreigner. I could go on and on.
Marriage, remember, is not just a contract between two people. It is a contract that two people make, as a couple, with their community – which is why there is always a witness. Two people can’t go into a room by themselves and come out legally married. The partners agree to take care of each other so the community doesn’t have to. In exchange, the community deems them a family, binding them to each other and to society with a host of legal and social ties. This is a fantastically fruitful bargain. Marriage makes you, on average, healthier, happier and wealthier. If you are a couple raising kids, marrying is likely to make them healthier, happier and wealthier, too. Marriage is our first and best line of defense against financial, medical and emotional meltdown. It provides domesticity and a safe harbor for sex. It stabilizes communities by formalizing responsibilities and creating kin networks. And its absence can be calamitous, whether in inner cities or gay ghettos.
(snip)
Because parents want happy children, communities want responsible neighbors, employers want productive workers, and governments want smaller welfare caseloads, society has a powerful interest in recognizing and supporting same-sex couples. It will either fold them into marriage or create alternatives to marriage, such as publicly recognized and subsidized cohabitation. Conservatives often say same-sex marriage should be prohibited because it does not exemplify the ideal form of family. They should consider how much less ideal an example gay couples will set by building families and raising children out of wedlock.
Nowadays, even opponents of same-sex marriage generally concede it would be good for gay people. What they worry about are the possible secondary effects it could have as it ramifies through law and society. What if gay marriage becomes a vehicle for polygamists who want to marry multiple partners, egalitarians who want to radically rewrite family law, or secularists who want to suppress religious objections to homosexuality? Space doesn’t permit me to treat those and other objections in detail, beyond noting that same-sex marriage no more leads logically to polygamy than giving women one vote leads to giving men two; that gay marriage requires only few and modest changes to existing family law; and that the Constitution provides robust protections for religious freedom.

So poodle boy, let’s see ya dance. To that tune.
“Honestly though, ksfarmgrrl, I haven’t seen any evidence that Hillary Clinton would have been any different. Hillary Clinton was as pragmatic and opportunistic a candidate as I have seen (and no, that assessment has nothing to do with her gender, I am talking about specific examples of her behavior) The game is being seen as playing to the middle, and both Obama and Clinton would have been likely to have done this. I disagree with both of them on the marriage issue.”
I don’t think that is entirely true ksagnostic.
Especially as regards my friend farmgrrl and the gay community.
Yes it was the occasion of the speech suspending her run for the White House. But in a speech that the whole world was waiting (and no small number were DEMANDING) Senator Clinton mentioned the gay community two, I think three times.
If my memory serves, that was historic. I do not recall a higher profile moment for tolerance and forward thinking.
To be real honest, I am sick of the debate regarding gay rights and gay marriage.
I am sick that there IS a debate.
In a country that “prides” it’s self on being a beacon of freedom, why is this an issue? Why is the behaviors of a few a cause for such outrage by the many?
Those that have whipped the frenzy of debate with their opposition to equal rights should be ashamed of themselves. That is not what this country is supposed to be about.
Remember after 9/11 the statements of so many that radical Islam “hates us for our freedoms?”
In some Islamic countries, homosexuality is punishable by death. Is that what we want for America?
The tyranny of the majority over the rights of a minority is not good social policy.
I am sick of the debate. I am sick that there IS a debate.
Ya know Clark, I totally agree. I’m sick of the debate too, and the fact that there even IS a debate.
But until then, I soldier on, poking the poodle for all to see what a bigoted putz he is….
Hehehehheheh.
But thanks to you and JR for your support. We need all the allies we can get to beat back the bramble of bigotry. Turn you back on it, and it takes over the landscape.

I, as well as everyone else, realizes your use of the term “boxlicker” is a fantasy you are having about me
__________________________________________
Sorry to shatter your sexual fantasy Boxlicker, but when I refer to you as Boxlicker it’s a play on BOOT LICKER as in Nazi boot licker.
A certain Nazi General would have people LICK his boots as a way of showing his power and superiority.
So Box Boy you lick Bush’s butt instead of boots but the Nazi that you are remains the same.
Pride cometh before a fall Boxlick and you’re on your way down.
You go to elect the candidate you have–not the one you want.
My first choice was Russ Feingold. My second choice was President-in-Exile Al Gore.
But out of the crop that actually ran, I think that Obama has the best chance of winning.
It’s one of those damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t things: He uses McClurkin and he damned by some (but not the majority) in the GLBT community — He doesn’t use McClurkin and he loses South Carolina and loses the election, proving to all the nay sayers that “he doesn’t have what it takes to win.”
Obama is going to have five times as much money as McCain in the fall, maybe half a BILLION dollars. He’s sending campaign managers to all 50 states.
This is going to strengthen the Democratic Party like no candidate ever before in my lifetime.
“So Ksag, thanks for making my point, which is that obama is no saint. He is JUST LIKE Hillary, et al.”
Just to be clear, I didn’t say that.
“In fact, while he has definitely done some pandering, I honestly didn’t see as much from him as I saw from Clinton or McCain.”
The nonsense about suspending the gas tax is just an example. The opportunistic attempt to tie into the hypothetical God and Guns crowd after Obama’s gaffe represents another.
Obama is no saint, never thought he was. Some of the very first comments he made in the aftermath of the 2004 election rubbed me the wrong way (he was one of the candidates who strongly hinted that the Democrats needed to “embrace” religious people and distance themselves from their more secular elements-and I did find that offensive and hurtful because Rove et. al. used not only people who are gay but people who are not theistic or indeed Christian as scapegoats to motivate the base-as come Republican observers correctly noted-this caused strategy caused a backlash in 2006-but some Democrats were not among those who seemed to see it coming).
“I don’t think that is entirely true ksagnostic.
“Especially as regards my friend farmgrrl and the gay community.
“Yes it was the occasion of the speech suspending her run for the White House. But in a speech that the whole world was waiting (and no small number were DEMANDING) Senator Clinton mentioned the gay community two, I think three times.
“If my memory serves, that was historic. I do not recall a higher profile moment for tolerance and forward thinking.”
It was a very good speech, but the fact remains, there was little meaningful distinction between Obama and Clinton on where they stood on GLBT issues. The pluses and minuses are all in the same place.
http://a4.g.akamai.net/f/4/19675/0/newmill.download.akamai.com/19677/anon.newmediamill/pdfs/Questionnaire_ReportCard.pdf
This is not to say that the Obama and his campaign’s handling of Donnie McClurkin et. al. in South Carolina wasn’t offensive, but in terms of the candidates’ stands, little functional difference.
Furthermore, although this should not in any way be attributed to the candidates themselves, demographically, I would just bet that Obama supporters as a group were more likely to support gay marriage than Clinton supporters, with some spikes of difference.
I would have supported either candidate coming out of the primary. However, I will admit as the primary went on I moved more towards Obama.
“The tyranny of the majority over the rights of a minority is not good social policy.
“I am sick of the debate. I am sick that there IS a debate.”
I strongly agree. In fact, I think it is way too kind to call it a “debate”.
These are the people who are supposedly threatening the social fabric of America.

[FE]Right, that is the sort of thing that moral degeneracy is made up of.[/FE]
Just curious: I realize that she has to show unity and all, but what’s Clinton’s position on the domestic spying bill?
I’m wondering that too Rage. Are they all just puppets? Is there anyone really willing to stand up and protect our civil rights and the Constitution? I am upset with Obama over this one! I signed the petition you posted a link for yesterday and sent an email to his office.
“He doesn’t use McClurkin and he loses South Carolina and loses the election, proving to all the nay sayers that ‘he doesn’t have what it takes to win’.”
Actually, I don’t think it is at all likely that a) Obama or any democrat would win South Carolina and b) fortunately, I don’t think that so goes SC, so goes the nation.
I’d like to fight the thing myself, Linda, but I’m just one person and my time is not unlimited. What’s so weird about the Dems’ position is that opposing this is a winner with liberals, libertarians and moderates: caving in on this is caving in to the 28-percenters, allowing them to frame the debate, like Kerry did.
Even politically, it’s dumb.
KansasNaive,
Don’t be so naive, or more accurately don’t be so manically egotistical. I wasn’t even referring to you. I don’t even think of you for that matter, truth be know.
I was referring to the farm girl, you know the laughing jackass.
Crawl back under your rock now, I uncover you if I need you for anything….but that’s not likely.
Gotcha!
Dance poodle dance!
When your political leaders all sell out the Constitution. . . it’s time for some strange bedfellows!

“Crawl back under your rock now, I uncover you if I need you for anything”
A little more touchy than usual today, Box. Was the sermon this morning a little more cutting than you cared for?
Anything about “Love your neighbor as yourself?”
I’ll consider your advice WS about the time you start taking it yourself.
And KsNaive,
When you say “Gotcha! Dance poodle dance!” it is apparent you still don’t get it, so I’ll help you once more.
I AM dancing, dancing all around and over the top of you. Wake up to it.
“I’ll consider your advice WS about the time you start taking it yourself.”
Do ya’ mean like treating ALL my neighbors as equals?
Like that?
By the way, Box, as a “good” Christian, why do you need to wait for me before you to start “loving your neighbor as yourself?”
Didn’t Jesus tell you differently?
Lick those boots Poodle Boy!
WS,
Some folks are simply so insufferably obnoxious that even I am incapable of showing forbearance or endurance loving them, at least at some points in time.
Right now, and with you, that is the situation because you make no attempt to be even slightly approachable or tolerant of other views. But who knows what the future holds, uh?
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what’s new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
Boxlicker got caught expressing an objectionable fantasy about a certain farmgirl.
Gonna let your wife (if you even have one) read this post PoodleBoy?:

I, as well as everyone else, realizes your use of the term “boxlicker” is a fantasy you are having about me
“Some folks are simply so insufferably obnoxious that even I am incapable of showing forbearance or endurance loving them, at least at some points in time.”
Jesus would be pissed.
“because you make no attempt to be even slightly approachable or tolerant of other views.”
Wrong. I am very tolerant – but I do fire back when fired upon, or when folks fire at people I like and respect.
Like when you called Ms. Grrl a pervert.
Double dog dare you to show that to your wife and kids Bootlicker!
Tsk tsk tsk…hides behind his computer and doesn’t dare let his “wife” know what he’s up to.
Again KsNaive you need to read more carefully, or is it that you simply haven’t the ability to understand what you read. Or is it that you create scenarios to fulfill something lacking or maladjusted about you?
I’ve never used the term, only copied it from her, and I believe your, posts. I have never even commented on what was meant when she used it, she did, and she is the one to make reference to a vulgar connotation with its use.
I simply responded to her ‘only in your dreams’, as I find her activities in that regard repulsive.
As I do a lot about you as well.
Dance poodle dance!
(and keep your dancing a secret from your wife and kids)
Hey…YOU posted it and it looks to me like the fantasy is yours.
“Double dog dare you ” ????
That’s it….I’m dealing with a child.
No wonder you seem so brain dead there Naive, so…well, NAIVE.
“Hey…YOU posted it and it looks to me like the fantasy is yours.”
Only a response to her previous vulgar misuse of the nic.
And you and everyone else knows that as well.
And now they also know you have so little to offer you’ll grasp at anything.
You’re looking sad Naive, really sad, and you seem to be the one focusing on it by the way…everyone notice!
(Chuckles)
and the frightened poodle keeps dancing!
“as I find her activities in that regard repulsive.”
No one asked you to watch.
Dancing on you Naive, dancing on you.
WS, I never said any thing about watching…I find her misuse of my nic suggestive and repulsive.
And you are grasping at straws as well there WS, got nothing better?
“I find her misuse of my nic suggestive and repulsive.”
Aw……………….. too bad. You call someone a pervert and you get your little feelings hurt when they fire back? Kind of hypocritical, I would say.
“And you are grasping at straws as well there WS, got nothing better?”
Grasping at straws? Funny. You’re the holier-than-thou, judgmental “good” Christian and your attitudes and commentary are as unchristian as they come.
You are a joke, Box Head, a caricature of everything opposite of what you claim to be.
But, thanks for trying, Phred.
KansasNaive’ass H-erpes, Y=east Infection and a-nal warts must be flaring up
Another “good” Christian chimes in……………
And the mult-nic’d ‘Regular’ also represents “Kansas values”.
Cleveland, OH — Today the Sierra Club and the United Steelworkers jointly endorsed Barack Obama for President. We believe he is the leader who can put America on the path to a clean energy economy that creates and keeps millions of jobs, spurs innovation and opportunity, and makes this a more secure nation.
“Regular” –
Real Lincoln/Douglas debate techniques, there.
But thanks for elevating your contributions to this forum to a higher level. For you, anyway.
That was just a taste (pun intended) for all the ‘boxlicker’ Libs out there, that abuse another poster’s name.
Glad you enjoyed it.
“that abuse another poster’s name”
Like calling someone MonkeyHock? Or CraponAmerica?
Like that?
I always got your six kfg.
I don’t know WHAT “Obama” means. Or who or what he really is.
I’m not even sure he konws.
It’s those old remnants of the con in me.
I mistrust and suspect the unknown.
But I DO know what “Ohana” means.
A little Disney inspired sentiment that reflects me.
“Ohana means family. And family means no one gets left behind.”

“that abuse another poster’s name”
————————-
Like calling someone McLiar or Reguliar?
Like that?
WS, what makes you think my feelings are hurt?
What a comic.
And WS….she is a pervert, the proof comes out of her own mouth, as we’ve read and discussed.
What’s your excuse for being so repulsive?
“Like calling someone McLiar or Reguliar?”
You can’t complain, McCluer, if you do the same damned thing.
At the end of the day:
“Obama – a different kind of politics? Change? No more politics as usual?”
Not hardly. Same left-wing agenda. Same win at any cost tactics. With no history, no resume in the empty suit.
I believe in public financing . . . until I don’t. Until it’s in my interest not to.
Imagine that. And he’s a different kind of politics. Uh-huh.
“she is a pervert, the proof comes out of her own mouth, as we’ve read and discussed.”
She is a normal, lesbian woman, not a pervert.
“What’s your excuse for being so repulsive?”
Just to irritate you, thank you very much.
Like I said WS…perverted.
WS, I guess I do need to give you credit for one thing, you do irritate me….but only mildly, nothing significant, because I don’t really consider you significant.
“Like I said WS…perverted.”
It must a truly inspiring feeling, Box Head, being able to judge others while ignoring your own considerable failings.
Damn Christian of you.
“WS, I guess I do need to give you credit for one thing, you do irritate me”
Well, thank you! And by the way, I think that you are a self righteous, hypocritical asshole.
Dance poodle dance!
Hey, Botox, what’s your definition of “perversion”? You got a pre-approved list of positions and no-nos for the rest of us? Oral sex ok? How about anal? Should group sex be made illegal?
Surely interracial sex is an offense against God.
Please do enlighten us, Botox. This could be fascinating.
At the same time, are you completely okay with all heterosexual marriages? Or just the ones you like?
Now look who all is dancing!
I’m like the Pied Piper, with a bunch of rats, really dimwitted rats, following me around like they have nothing else to do as their lives are so completely void. Ha, you all are mildly amusing but becoming quite boring quickly as you are so easy and predictable.
Now the Poodle thinks he’s a god.
No wife…no faith…no life….that’s the closet Boxlicker.
“Ha, you all are mildly amusing but becoming quite boring quickly as you are so easy and predictable.”
Aw, admit it Box Head, this is the highlight of your life – you get to ANONYMOUSLY toss insults at people – this is the one and only thrill of your lifetime.
Face it, you were the nerdy kid in school that got teased and beat up almost daily – couldn’t get a date if you paid for it – and were voted mostly likely to bore someone to death.
This is it for you – you can play big man and claim to be able to judge others.
Tomorrow, real life calls and you’ll be back to being little old Box Head, traveling nerd that never got over the humiliation of Junior High School.
No wife…no faith…no life….that’s the closet Boxlicker.
Hmmmm…that also describes Reguliar.
Just read your posts here losers.
You’re having to create a ‘character’ for me in your dimwitted, insecure little minds to compete, to try to maintain and support your own failed identity, which is obviously pretty pathetic.
I do have to admit I wonder why I even check this blog as nothing changes, just a bunch of weak DemLibs packing like jackals, being weak on their own and leading pretty desperate lives apparently.
Sweet dreams all, as if you could ever have any.
Log Out.
“I do have to admit I wonder why I even check this blog as nothing changes”
Then just go away for Christ’s sake and stop whining about it. The histrionics just make you look childish.
Go away – you won’t be missed.
so i just read through that entire conversation.. and i can only say wow!! i thought we lived in a tolerent world, but i guess that is not quite the case… although kansas is disgustingly right wing. it is funny how every one of boxlock’s post involve some sort of insult or low blow to a, or in several instances many, so called “liberals”. this is why i have become increasingly torn from my original christian upbringing, i just can not understand intolerance! and why does every “liberal” have to be non-theistic?? and all christians are not repulicans! please do not get me wrong i am a christain and believe in God, but even if i disagree with ones lifestyle, who am i to judge them? better yet boxlock, who are you to judge them??
Amazing to say this, but good for the Wall Street Journal under the prince of darkness himself, Rupert Murdoch, for printing Rauch’s excellent, excellent editorial.
snatchaholic posts,
“…i am a christain and believe in God, but even if i disagree with ones lifestyle, who am i to judge them? better yet boxlock, who are you to judge them??”
You aren’t reading very closely, that’s not what I’ve said. I have said some one’s lifestyle is none of my business and I simply don’t care what they do other than out of concern for them, BUT I do care how they try and shape society into what they want it to be as that involves me and my family and friends.
Gays want to redefine the term marriage from what it has always been, for thousands of years, and they have no right to do that. They also expect society to fully accept their lifestyle as normal and the full equivalency of theirs. Now it’s fine if they want to think that but not force me into same and expect me to not be able to express my thoughts either.
And please check into your ‘Christian’ faith as I think you will find it condemns homosexuality and expects you to be active and vocal in living it. That doesn’t mean spiritually judging others, but their outward action is pretty hard not to see and that it runs counter to your Christian principals.
And snatchaholic, if you are just now coming to this blog there has been much prior to this thread to explain my ‘intolerance’ with some of the posters. And kfg was the first to start calling me “boxlicker”, I rather unChristian term, don’t you agree.
I have found is spending much time on this blog with some of the ‘liberal’, not all, bloggers is like spending time around a swine yard. No matter how hard one tries you are going to get dirty, and smelling as a result.
The poodle just can’t resist dancing!
By the way, the definition of marriage has changed many times over the years to disallow 6 year olds from being married and to allow mixed race couples to marry.
Of course Boxlicker is against that too.
Watch the pretty poodle come out of his closet and dance for us!
Gays want to redefine the term marriage from what it has always been, for thousands of years, and they have no right to do that.
I see. . .so you’re willing to deny basic civil rights to millions of people based on. . .a word??. Oh, that’s good.
How about this: let the damn churches keep the word. “Civil unions” for all, legally; no one gets “married” under the law: If you get married, your churches marries, sanctifies, ookifies you or whatever. The state simply grants you the legal rights you deserve, gay or straight, consistent with religious freedom and equal protection of the laws.
How on Earth can anyone smarter than a brick object to that?
Boxlicker is not smarter than a brick.
“How on Earth can anyone smarter than a brick object to that?”
——-
Fear? Fear of the unknown? Fear of what isn’t understood? Fear they’ll “catch” that gay stuff?
I’ll admit I don’t understand their objections and those that object are pretty scary! If they are that irrational and biased, what are they capable of?
“You aren’t reading very closely, that’s not what I’ve said. I have said some one’s lifestyle is none of my business and I simply don’t care what they do other than out of concern for them, BUT I do care how they try and shape society into what they want it to be as that involves me and my family and friends.”
I call bullsh*t. How does the knowledge that people of the same gender can marry involve you your family or your friends? Well, unless a member of your family or one of your friends wants to marry.
“Gays want to redefine the term marriage from what it has always been, for thousands of years, and they have no right to do that.”
Bullsh*t again. Your comments about marriage are historically and anthropolically illitarate. Marriage has changed a great deal over the years, and it varies greatly from one culture to another. Also, since allowing gay marriages does not in any way restrict or impose on straight marriages, marriage is not “redefined”, it is simply a more inclusive institution. And your claim that they have “no right” is complete and total bullsh*t. They have every right to advocate for this and to get it through. There are those of us who are straight who have the emotional and intellectual maturity, and for that matter the simple decency, to not try to deny people who love each other romantically to make a lifetime commitment to one another. What right do YOU have to tell them differently? Your claim that they have “no right” is simply an empty assertion, meaning nothing. And regarding the majority comment you so like to bring up at this point, as I have pointed out before…
1) When the Supreme Court ruled on the Loving case, the “majority” of citizens opposed interracial marriages. Yet, you yourself have indicated that you consider the ruling to be correct. Therefore, there is already precendent for disregarding the “majority”.
2) The demographics are changing. The majority of my daughter’s generation does not believe that gay marriage should be outlawed. My step daughter helped to found a gay straight alliance at her high school.
That is, “anthropologically illitarate”.
boxlock- “I have found is spending much time on this blog with some of the ‘liberal’, not all, bloggers is like spending time around a swine yard. No matter how hard one tries you are going to get dirty, and smelling as a result.”
wow boxlock u almost did it!! u were soo close to finishing that post with out any insults… its a shame really! very christain of u!! congrats!
and boxlock one more thing… i wasnt refering to ur “intolerance” towards the posters in here as i would not generally agree with some of the comments towards you.. but as the so called “christain” i had been under the impression that WE were tought to be the better man.. to raise up instead of coming back with more insults only poking the fire, didnt jesus say turn the other cheek??? i do belive he did!
Boxlock- “You aren’t reading very closely, that’s not what I’ve said. I have said some one’s lifestyle is none of my business and I simply don’t care what they do other than out of concern for them, BUT I do care how they try and shape society into what they want it to be as that involves me and my family and friends.”
“BUT” haha such a key word. it seems obvious to me that u really do find it do be ur business then…? ur comments are so very conflicting my friend
Boxlock- “And please check into your ‘Christian’ faith as I think you will find it condemns homosexuality and expects you to be active and vocal in living it. That doesn’t mean spiritually judging others, but their outward action is pretty hard not to see and that it runs counter to your Christian principals.”
thanks for saying please… but ill do what i want… and ur right it doesnt mean judging others thats gods job, he will tell me if my belief is satisfying for him not u! so again thanks…. but no thanks!
Don’t be so naive, we all judge peoples actions.
I don’t judge them spiritually, but I sure do their actions. Take any crime for instance or inhuman action.
I don’t care what people do UNTIL they start trying to alter what society has recognized for thousands of years as in marriage or harm others.
Let the homosexuals be homosexual…who cares, leave marriage alone.
And look at some of the posts other than mine a little closer….they are swine.
By the way snatchaholic, I don’t place you in that category at all.
We may not agree, you may not like what I have posted, heck…I don’t either, but you and I can at least converse I believe.
“I don’t care what people do UNTIL they start trying to alter what society has recognized for thousands of years as in marriage or harm others.”
Simply repeating a statement that remains historically and anthropologically illiterate. For that matter, it is culturally illiterate as well.

“Let the homosexuals be homosexual…who cares, leave marriage alone.”
“Marriage” is not a term you and yours own. No one is proposing doing anything to your marriage, or for that matter mine. They simply wish to be able to make the legal commitment to the person they love.
“And look at some of the posts other than mine a little closer….they are swine.”
I strongly suggest they look at your posts as well. You encounter disagreement, you go straight to the very personal ad hominem rather than deal with any substantial criticism of your arguments. Your choosing to call people “swine” rather than to deal with their arguments reveals volumes about you.
i certainly hope so, i dont think you are correct in denying such a basic right to so many people but at least you are willing to defend what you believe in
and yes i am fully aware of the fact that we judge people, it is human nature but it is wrong for you to compare criminals with homosexuals. maybe if being gay was a crime like smoking weed or something and we are trying to legalize homosexuality, but were not! we are trying to alow them to simply have the same basic human rights that the rest of americans have!
Let’s see if this works for the first link.

No agnostic, I go ad hominem AFTER that has been done to me, rarely if ever starting it.
I don’t mind, and in fact enjoy, intelligent disagreement but not the name calling, nic subversion and denigration I encounter when expressing my view.
And yes I do have a right to defend the meaning of the term marriage, which has been universally accepted to mean a man/woman union for thousands of years. And in the religious context is a holy God/man like relationship.
Also, homosexuals have EXACTLY the same rights as everyone else has. They can enter into marriage as it has been defined, if they choose not to that is their preference.
I think it interesting that kfg seems to enjoy calling me “Boxlicker”, since she does it so ofter,in fact every time. She is doing so not because she thinks that is a complement I think all would agree, she is doing so because even she, a lesbian, knows it to be a denagration, a repulsive term thrown at me meant as an insult. Yet, as a lesbian she…..well you get the point. Even she knows it to be a decadent subversion.
Enough on this subject and thread, it’s old…the end.
