Impeachment resolution won’t go anywhere

kucinichThe U.S. House voted 251-166 Wednesday to send proposed articles of impeachment against President Bush to the House Judiciary Committee, but don’t expect any action on it. The impeachment resolution was proposed by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio. He says Bush should be impeached for reasons that include manufacturing a false case for war in Iraq, botching the nation’s response to Hurricane Katrina and undermining efforts to address global warming, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

Sometimes the measure of courage is saying the right thing against wrong things unsaid.

Kucinich might be a gadfly, but the high crimes and misdemeanors of George WMD Bush are now a matter of historic record.

    Good for Dennis!

I agree with Monkeyhawk. A record of the high crimes and misdemeanors is moving forward at long last.

The US congress believed that Sadam should be taken down. The UN also. Bush did not cause Katrina. There is no global warming and cooling. It’s something that we have no control over, just like the Kansas tornado’s that have happened recently. Kuncinich is a nut.

Forget trying to impeach Bush, Cheney et al. They will already be out of office before the political wrangling over an impeachment is done. All impeachment does is remove them from office.
A solution with sharper teeth is needed here; they should all be escorted straight from office next Jan. 20th, flown on a CIA rendition plane to The Hague and handed over, along with all incriminating papers to the World Court for a war crimes trial. If the plane needs to gas up, they could always stop off in Syria for a few hours of fun water-boarding while the plane is being serviced.

Oh comeone, BOX!! Don’t give Bush credit for no terrorist’s attacks…the Mexicans can come accross our borders anytime they feel like it…any terrorist can perpetrate an attack if they’re motivated enough. Homeland security is a joke, only instituted to give Americans a false sense of security.
bin Laden is still on the loose, and he’ll do it again when he’s ready to…he takes his time and counts on the fact that Americans have short attention spans…as soon as we think the hulabaloo is over, he’ll do it again. Bush has only fanned the fire, he hasn’t affectively removed any terrorist threat by attacking a country that was no threat in the first place…he did a lot to promote terrorism by invading Iraq, overthrowing the government, and giving Iran more power in the Middle East by doing away with it’s biggest threat.
We should have stayed in Afganistan and found bin Laden.
Why do you cons repeat the same old talking points all the time? All it does is show how truly ignorant you all are.

CounterPunch is revealing that BushCo personally profited off the war, according to CIA whistle-blower:

SueAnn Arrigo is the source. She was a high-level CIA insider. Her title was Special Operations Advisor to the Director of Central Intelligence (DCI). She also established the Remote Viewing Defense protocols for the Pentagon in her capacity as Remote Viewing Advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). It earned her a two-star general rank in the military. She called it a “ploy” so the Pentagon could get more of her time and have her attend monthly Joint Chiefs of Staff meetings. Only high-level types are invited, and she was there from October 2003 to July 2004:

Among other things, 2.3 TRILLION dollars cannot be accounted for. The CIA had 40 people working on its payroll for Halliburton. Halliburton had access to secret CIA information.

QUOTE: First off, it’s pure myth that Dick Cheney stopped running the company. “He called in orders to the man I worked for almost every day and sometimes two or more times a day. He remained (Halliburton’s) functional head in all but name. No one….had the power to override his orders.” Second, Cheney never divested himself of Halliburton profits. “He merely hid how (he got them) through a series of shell companies.”

    Mary,
In case you haven’t figured this out yet, I imagine you have, but certainly most of the objects of my shots haven’t, I exaggerate my positions….sometimes a lot. Especially those on homosexuality, and how brain dead the liberals/Dems are and so on. I know, some call that flaming, big deal because I find so many people on this blog are equally or usually more intolerant as what I have tried to act like of differing views. And what’s amusing is they react like puppets to input on their strings. Their hostility really shocked me when I first found ‘We Blog’ and posted my first or second post and got…I mean slammed when I simply expected discussion.
I am conservative, you bet and proud of it and I define it, but realize we need balance, and the libs go way over board in a way that I consider endangers the self-sufficient principles that made our country. We are feeling the result now, and I’m afraid will more in the future. We are moving increasingly into socialism and a big nanny government and away from individualism and self-reliance.
The truth is no one, and no government program or entitlement paid for by a true producer, can EVER make a person happy and living to their full capability that is able to participate in their own livelyhood. In fact it simply enables more dependency.
And there are evil people and evil governments that will bring us down if we let them or even give them half a chance. They want what we have or they want to make sure we don’t have it any longer.

Course, one thing about him is that he isn’t all talk and promises like the rest of the Democrats in Congress; who all say what they think their wacko lib base wants to hear, and then never follow up.

Bush: Criticism of US-Iraqi Compact is “Noise”

President Bush is dismissing opposition to a proposed agreement on keeping US troops in Iraq. Criticism has mounted from Iraqi and US lawmakers as details have emerged over the past week. The Bush administration is seeking to permanently keep more than fifty military bases in Iraq. It’s also insisting on continuing military campaigns without consultation with the Iraqi government and immunity for American soldiers and contractors. Speaking in Germany Wednesday, President Bush called criticism from Iraqi and US lawmakers “noise in their system and our system.” Bush said the terms have been misunderstood and that he’s confident a deal will be reached.

President Bush: “And one of the lessons of Iraq is, is that in order for, you know, a democracy development or in order for an economy to develop, there has to be a measure of security, which is now happening. So I think we’ll get the agreement done.”

Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidate John McCain is also dismissing criticism of plans for a long-term occupation of Iraq. Speaking on NBC’s Today Show Wednesday, McCain was asked when he thinks US troops will return from Iraq. McCain replied, “That’s not too important. What’s important is the casualties in Iraq. Americans are in South Korea, Americans are in Japan, American troops are in Germany. That’s all fine.”

Kucinich Vows to Press Bush Impeachment

On Capitol Hill, Democratic Congressmember Dennis Kucinich is vowing to continue his impeachment effort against President Bush despite attempts to bury it in committee. On Wednesday, Congress members voted to send Kucinich’s bill to the House Judiciary Committee, where it’s unlikely to be considered before Bush leaves office. Kucinich’s thirty-five articles of impeachment against President Bush accuse him of war crimes and deceiving the public in the run-up to the Iraq invasion. Kucinich also lists the imprisonment of foreign nationals and US citizens without charge in the so-called “war on terror”; Bush’s policies on global warming, voting rights, Medicare; and the response to Hurricane Katrina.

Iraqis: US Initially Demanded Control of 200 Military Bases in Iraq

Iraqi lawmakers continue to speak out over what they call unfair demands in talks with the Bush administration over a long-term compact with the United States. US officials have been silent on the negotiations. But Iraqis have leaked details of the US demands, which include immunity for American troops and contractors, a free hand to conduct military operations without Iraqi approval, control of Iraqi airspace, and maintaining fifty-eight permanent military bases in Iraq. On Tuesday, Democracy Now! spoke to visiting Iraqi lawmakers here in New York. Iraqi parliament member Khalaf Al-Ulayyan criticized the US proposals.

Iraqi parliament member Khalaf Al-Ulayyan: “I believe the parliament will not ratify the treaty in its current form, because it harms Iraqi sovereignty. Based on the details that have been leaked to the media, it seems that the deal will make Iraq not just an occupied country but an actual part of the US.”

Iraqi officials interviewed by the Washington Post say the US initially demanded control of more than 200 military bases. US officials also demanded the right to refuel the planes while in flight, stoking fears the US would use Iraq as a staging ground for an attack on Iran. The Independent of London reported last week the US is leveraging tens of billions of dollars in seized Iraqi assets to push through its demands. The Bush administration has angered Iraqi officials by refusing to lift support for Iraq’s UN designation as a threat to international security. The designation was imposed following Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and has been used to impose sanctions and restrict Iraq’s economy.

“gster” asks the pertinent question –

    “Can the Shrub pardon himself?”

From the bowels of my memory, I think he could.

Seems like there was some kind of spin back when Dick (appropriately named, btw) Nixon resigned. The Republic Party apologists were saying stuff like, “At least he resigned with a modicum of honor; he did not issue a presidential pardon to himself as his last act in office.”

Wow. You gotta go back to Nixon to find the last act of integrity by a Republic Party president! Who’d a thought? Shoulda known.

‘And there are evil people and evil governments that will bring us down if we let them or even give them half a chance. They want what we have or they want to make sure we don’t have it any longer.’

I agree there are evil people in the world that wish us harm and I’m sure Iran is at the top of the list. But why was Iraqi’s Maliki in Iran last week to assure the Iran president of Iran’s safety even though the US will have bases in Iraq?

If Maliki is so concerned about Iran’s (one of our sworn enemies according to George W. Bush) safety, then why is the US even in Iraq to help them?

You are so upset about Obama wanting to sit down and having tea with our enemies but yet Bush allows Maliki to go in person to Iran and assure them of their safety. Isn’t that like being knifed in our back? I don’t trust the Iraqi government - I think they are playing us for fools.

If his lawyers find a way to do it, you can bet on it, but such a pardon would only extend to US courts. That’s why I suggested the World Court. It would also be a fair hearing in the rest of the world, you know, the people we’re going to have to find a way to live with after this debacle.

gster, MH - if memory serves Nixon arranged for Ford to pardon him.

There is exactly ZERO evidence of same. Both Ford and Nixon denied there being any sort of arrangement, either directly or as any sort of “understanding.” Neither is there any contemporaneous evidence, of any sort, for same. Further, those who knew Ford well (he’d been in Congress for years) never alleged such an arrangement at the time.

Ben - again, I thought you had some class. You should know better to allege such an arrangement without evidence of same. Is it so important for you to fit in with the moonbats?

Well, yeah. Of course he did.

But that particular smoking gun has never been found. And Nixon and Ford are dead and there probably wasn’t any way to document it.

Ford took office in August 1974 and the Nixon pardon came out as a press release in what? November?

At least there was a modicum of discretion to the Nixon pardon progress. The ink on Shrub’s pardon of himself will hardly be dry when he and Laura hop on Air Force One for one last flight and he hijacks it to Paraguay.

But maybe they chose a new nic so they could turn over a new leaf? Maybe there was something in their past they would rather not face or be responsible for?

And why does it matter? Some posters you respect. Some posters you learn from, some are witty and entertaining on top of being someone you like to “read.” Each one shows who they really are (and were) by what they say, how they choose to conduct themselves.

The board isn’t what is “used to be.” Seldom does anything remain the same — either grows and changes or stagnates and changes. I think we have to scroll over some, laugh at others, enjoy and learn from a few. Always be open to new information and sort through the bullshit.

    —————-
    GET OVER IT - Eagles

I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin’ “Don’t blame me”
    They point their crooked little
    fingers at everybody else
Spend all their time feelin’ sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma’s too thin; your daddy’s too fat

    Get over it
    Get over it
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven’t been the same since
    you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let’s kill all the lawyers, kill ‘em tonight
You don’t want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn’t owe you a thing

    Get over it
    Get over it
If you don’t want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, Get over it

    It’s like going to confession
every time I hear you speak
You’re makin’ the most of your losin’ streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin’ everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I’d like to find your inner child
    and kick its little ass

    Get over it
    Get over it
All this bitchin’ and moanin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

    Get over it
    Get over it
It’s gotta stop sometime, so why don’t you quit
Get over it, get over it

    outlander,

Your attempt to be pithy, as usual, comes off as, well, forced.

But the decision to cite Eagles lyrics maybe wasn’t the best one, as Don Henley pretty had you Wingnuts nailed almost two decades ago. The year was 1989…

    THE END OF THE INNOCENCE

Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky
Didn’t have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standin’ by
    But “happily ever after” fails
And we’ve been posisoned by thse fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
    Since daddy had to fly

But I know a place where we can go
    That’s still untouched by men
We’ll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
    Offer up your best defense
    But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

    O’ beautiful, for spacious skies
But now those skies are threatening
    They’re beating plowshares into swords
For this tired old man that we elected king
    Armchair warriors often fail
And we’ve been poisoned by thse fairy tales
The lawyers clean up all the details
    Since daddy had to lie

But I know a place where we can go
    And wash away this sin
We’ll sit and watch the clouds toll by
And the tall grass waze in the wind
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair spill all around me
    Offer up your best defense
    But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

Who knows how long this will last
Now we’ve come so far, so fast
But, somewhere back there in the dust
That same small town in each of us
    I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
And let me take a long last look
    Before we say goodbye

Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
    Offer up your best defense
    But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

    http://www.lyricsdomain.com/4/don_henley/the_end_of_the_innocence.html

Hopefully, this is the year that the United States of America finally leaves behind the last forty years of Nixonian Republicanism. Because I don’t think that we, or the world, can handle much more permanent war and reality denial.

P.S. Wingnuts: the song is about REAGAN.

Sounds good to me, what part of “Imagine” do you have a problem with?

Actually, I find it to be the single greatest rock song of all time.

Union Maid (melody “Redbird,” original lyrics Woody Guthrie, updated lyrics CapnAmerica)

There once was a union maid who never was afraid
Of goons & ginks & company finks & deputy sheriffs who made the raids
She went to the union hall when a meeting it was called
And when the company boys came round she always stood her ground.

    Chorus–
Oh, you can’t scare me I’m sticking to the union
I’m sticking to the union I’m sticking to the union
No, you can’t scare me I’m sticking to the union
I’m sticking to the union Till the day I die.

Now Mr. Bush has said that he wanted the bad guys dead
So it’s off to war, don’t ask what for, remember that ‘dead is better than red.’
Our boys were sent to fight, no matter wrong or right,
To fight and die and maim and kill and we get sent the bill.

    Chorus

Our jobs have been outsourced our overtime is forced
Our healthcare plans don’t meet demands and Mr. Bush says ‘stay the course.’
‘Spend more for war for sure’ But none for the working poor.
If it’s work you want for money you lack All the jobs are in Iraq.

    Chorus

Well, McCluer, from the descriptions that I have heard of you, you are nothing more than a fat, unkempt old man that is dire need of a bath, a barber and a dental hygienist.

I would say that you have little room to criticize anyone’s appearance.

    KSGolfnut,

Well, KSGolfnut, still strong with your “decision” to be a heterosexual, or has the recent warm weather, and the occasional dude walking around shirtless, begun to chip away at your resolve?

You can be sure, KSGolfnut, that you have the continued support of everyone on the WeBlog as you work to stand strong in your “decision” to be heterosexual.

Well, if it’s from ‘what you hear’ then it must be true right?

Of course Clark, NO ONE on this blog has ever seen you, now have they?

I still say you are that 400 pounder who woofs down burgers that has a goatee. His description fits you perfectly.

Anybody remember that inspired scene in “Caddyshack” where the bitter old guy and Bill Murray are out in a torrental rain storm.

“I’m having the game of my LIFE!” croaks the old geezer right before the lightning bolt fries him like bacon.

I visualize GolfNut as that guy.

MOST descriptive of the fundy right is the campy lyrics from “They’re Coming to Take Me Away!”

Best poltically related song? “Land of Confusion” Phil Collins.

WHY hasn’t someone done a redo re bush?

ACTUALLY, Impeachment might not be out of the question for bush. He is poison to the Republicans. I could see enough of them voting for impeachment short of removal from office. Sort of a way as they fall into exile of pleading “Ok! We were wrong! But it was his fault!”

Dennis? Get a bugler to the House floor and have him play “Deguello”.

I know, Clark, Reggie is fun to toy with, kinda like seeing how many times the neighbor’s stupid dog will chase the slobbery tennis ball into the nettles and brambles.

James “Regular” is not fat. He does look like someone who does not get out a whole lot. Kinda like Howard Hughes toward the end.

And look what crawled from the grave. The Goofnut.

I’ve seen him too. Though I chose not to meet him.

I stand by my original description. The love child of Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin.

Couldn’t do much during the storms, Boss, I had to watch out for the grandcritters and animals, so this is the only-est fun I have had all night.

Okay, at least it blew over.

According to a dude’s weather station in Eastborough (see weatherunderground.com–watch out for spyware though), it was raining at the rate of 4.5 inches an hour.

Whatever happened to a gentle shower? I’m retiring to Hawaii, or Arizona.

I’ve also eaten her fried chicken and potato salad, and there isn’t better around, but I imagine you’ve done yourself out of ever getting to taste it.
