“There are some who think it will be harder for America to accept a black first lady – the national hostess who serenely presides over the White House Christmas festivities and the Easter egg roll – than a black president,” columnist Maureen Dowd wrote. She noted that there already are creepy Web sites “dedicated to painting Michelle as a female version of Jeremiah Wright, an angry black woman, the disgruntled, lecturing ‘Mrs. Grievance’ depicted on the cover of National Review.”
But Dowd points out that Michelle Obama is “a devoted daughter, wife and mother who has lived the American dream, from the humble South Side of Chicago to Harvard Law School. . . . And as one Obama booster enthuses: ‘Michelle’s story is a lot more mainstream American than Cindy McCain inheriting a brewery.’”
Still, it will be up to Michelle Obama whether these tactics stick or backfire. She’ll have plenty of opportunities in coming months to either silence and shame the attack dogs with her poise and intelligence or give them new material.

Time to really get the story out about McCain’s wife 1.0 and how he dumper her for a rich sweet young thing.
“from the humble South Side of Chicago to Harvard Law School.”
Sounds to me like both of the Obamas worked their way up instead of inheriting or marrying money which seems to be the Republic way.
Still, it will be up to Michelle Obama whether these tactics stick or backfire. She’ll have plenty of opportunities in coming months to either silence and shame the attack dogs with her poise and intelligence or give them new material.

Attack dogs? Poise and intelligence?
Chuckle… Phillip, you old poker face. I can’t tell a bit who you are supporting this election.
“There are some who think it will be harder for America to accept a black first lady – the national hostess who serenely presides over the White House Christmas festivities and the Easter egg roll – than a black president,” columnist Maureen Dowd wrote. ”
Wow. Mindblowing stuff there. Let’s see:
There are some that believe in the UN takeover of the United States
There are some that believe that Jane Fonda is a real American hero
There are some that believe in little green men
There are some that believe in ..
To paraphrase (and the beat goes on, the beat goes on).
Big whup. Michelle Obama can either prove herself to be a fine first lady, or, a “target rich” landscape for the detractors. Mostly, it will be up to her.
She has her past. Now that her husband is in the spotlight, she is going to have to own it. Unless of course she gets a free pass.
By all means dig up Mrs. McCain 1.0. Put the spotlight on that as well. And McCain’s term of endearment for Wife 2.0. Believe that one starts with a c and ends with a t.
Ben –
I thought you had a bit of class. Was I wrong? Just how is McCain’s first marriage relevant?
Frankly, unless she raises the issue because of what she says, how is Michelle Obama’s life story relevent? It’s not. If she participates in the campaign, she’s fair game to the extent she participates. If she is that “angry black woman, the disgruntled, lecturing ‘Mrs. Grievance’” (highly doubtful), that indeed is fair game and should, and will, come out. Otherwise, lay off.
And a candidate’s kids, no matter how many pretty pictures they pose for, are off limits, unless and until they insert themselves in any substantive way in the campaign.
Representing America as First Lady involves a great deal of interaction outside the United States, with dignitaries from other countries. Race and diversity are more acceptable in most countries. I think she will represent herself well. Those who find fault will tell much about themselves.
“outlander” has nothing except to attack the messenger with –
“Phillip, you old poker face. I can’t tell a bit who you are supporting this election.”
You Cons never surprise me, but often astound me.
If you believe in “Family Values,” vote for the candidate who’s still married to his first wife.
If you believe in self-reliance and personal achievement and advancement, you can’t vote for the guy who dumped his first wife because she was crippled for the Arizona beer queen who earned her money by picking the right parents.
If word gets out from journalists about the truth of your candidate, don’t address the truth, attack the messenger.
That’s pretty pathetic.
Welcome back to the Wichita Eagle Obama Campaign Headquarters, where it is Obama 24/7.
Hey, Regular, there’s a thread on McCain today. Not many posts there and NOT A SINGLE ONE from a supporter who is able to lead us to the light of the positives of the McCain candidacy.
I asked but haven’t had any takers.
Well, for starters, and to establish rapport, I do respect your practice in “pathetic” and illogical writing Monkey.
And to redirect your unfocused thoughts; this thread is about Michelle Obama. Are you saying sir, that she should get a pass from any scrutiny because John McCain has a divorce in his past? Because if you are, you a truly exceeding your own standard in illogic.
Or to put it another way;… you wish.
First Church of the Obamesssiah, where he is going to save them from themselves.
Outlander,
It is the old liberal argument that because someone isn’t perfect we shouldn’t bother to have any standards of values at all.

—————————
Go ahead linda, try and make a positive comment about McCain.
Let’s establish the scenario, that I make a positive comment about McCain.
The Lib blogladytes will come in and:
Call me Irregular, Reguliar, Nic Switcher and etc., then,
The tirade of McBush, McSame and other comments.
Why bother? So I don’t. Like what I write here is going to make a difference on the national scene anyway.
People know their mind and will vote how they wish.
Bth when did character become a deciding point in a political campaign. Or is that just for the republican?
As for McCains first marriage well if the first Mrs McCain comes forward and asks to be heard then it might become an issue.
As for poor Obama and his disadvantaged childhood. Save us from this hipocracy. A grandson of a bank officier raised in Hawaii after Indonesia where servants took care of him. Attended the best schools. This kite won’t fly.
If there are things to come out bring them on. Phillip hopes to stave off remarks like ‘for the first time in my adult life I am proud of
America’. Won’t happen and shouldn’t.
Linda to send a first lady out who doesn’t love and respect our country for the opportunities she received doesn’t deserve this distinction.
Let the games begin.
Drill here. Drill now. Pay less.
“GMC70″ shows up, like a fawn in the woods and asks –
“Just how is McCain’s first marriage relevant?”
Did you read the story?
Does it, perhaps, give you insight into the character of the guy you’re gonna vote for?
And it doesn’t matter to you?
(Well, of course it doesn’t. Sorry I asked.)
I agree totally with Michelle Obama that for the first time in my adult life I am REALLY proud to be an American! I also see Obama as a good leader, a breath of fresh air, a man with good policy ideas, someone who is reasonable, fair, HONEST, and I look forward to the opportunity to be represented by such a man!
Well Linda you wouldn’t be fit to be first lady either. If anyone in this country thinks they have nothing to be proud of in a country like the US they should be exiled to a third world country ran by a dictator for a undetermined period of time.
Democrats surely aren’t as airheaded as your posts make you out to be are they?
I don’t read anything into what Michelle Obama says. I think she speaks clearly and is easily understood. I listen to what she says and find inspiration, a proud and respectful American.
There hasn’t been nearly as much to feel proud of for too long a time!

WTF?? (points and laughs at MH for 5.7 seconds and returns to work)
Linda you really don’t have to read anything into what she say – just listen to the words. Thats easy enough to do.
I’m not an airhead. I do think you’re right that I wouldn’t be fit to be first lady. Does it make you superior and proud when you call another poster an airhead? I’m sure you will see what you choose in any of my posts, or you could scroll over them. It might save you time and of course nothing I will type will be good enough to waste time on. My name is listed FIRST so it will be easy to know where to begin scrolling.
In the:
“Get ready for attacks on Michelle Obama” thread we get an attack on Mrs. McCain?
“‘Michelle’s story is a lot more mainstream American than Cindy McCain inheriting a brewery.’””
Harvard? Mainstream?
Mrs. Obama said what she said. She should own that. Only now proud of America.
See You In Toledo
fleetwood, It’s been proven overandover that she said, REALLY proud for the first time. She didn’t say she hadn’t been proud. It’s also been proven that a particular news station edited out the word “REALLY.” Those who seek the truth will find it.
“”for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country.”"
Well. That makes it all better.
Well Linda,
Let’s talk about Obama,
“I also see Obama as a good leader, . . .”
Really? What leadership qualities has he exibited? His record in the Senate as the junior Senator from Illinois has been little more than a Harry Reid butt-boy.
“. . . a breath of fresh air, . . .”
Really? His rhetoric is little more than rehashed democratic talking points. He represents ‘old-school’ Chicago politics at it’s worst.
“. . . a man with good policy ideas, . . .”
The most liberal voting record in the Senate! Can you name one idea that is his own?
“. . . someone who is reasonable, fair, . . .”
Very good example of ‘feel-good-liberal’ talking points! Fair! What in the hell does that mean? And how does that qualify him for president?
” . . .HONEST, . . .”
Right! Why don’t you GOOGLE “obama lies” and see how honest this South-side Chicago politician is! LOL!
“. . .and I look forward to the opportunity to be represented by such a man!”
For the sake of the country I hope you are disapointed!
“outlander” squirms –
“…this thread is about Michelle Obama.”
Funny how we liberals aren’t as facile in compartmentalizing issues as you Cons.
You’d like us to focus only on Barack Obama ’s first wife and ignore McSame’s?
I bet you would.
It keeps us distracted from discussing Cindy McCain’s embezzlement conviction and drug addiction.
Are you saying, sir, that Cindy McCain should get a pass from any scrutiny?
Frankly, I think the corporate media has been utterly kind in regards to to Cindy McCain’s past peccadilloes. She most certainly had the money and political clout to get out from under multiple felony charges. Would a left-wing version of Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilley be so kind? I doubt it.
Ah, but “THIS thread is about Michelle Obama!” So the other candidate’s spouse is off-limits, is it?
And the way the Arizona Beer Queen became the candidate’s current spouse is out of bounds, right?
Nope. We are supposed to compartmentalize issues like the Cons. “John Sidney McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd Term) is a leader because he was tortured!” But his advocacy of torture (after he was against it) isn’t an issue, right? Evangelical CONservatives are a divisive force in American politics! Unless, of course, sucking up to televangelists might get McBush a few votes. But it’s wrong to mention that. Shrub’s tax cuts for billionaires “are destructive to the economy!” Until, of course, their money is the only way to finance the McSame candidacy.
Let’s not confuse the Cons by pointing out that their issues flip and flop all over the political spectrum because it might distract them from what’s really happening in America.
Faux News actually tried to make Barack and Michelle Obama’s fist punch into an issue about terrorism!
Give me a break, “outlander.”
If John WMD McSame showed up at a campaign rally and started butt-fuc#ing a schnauzer, you’d show up in this forum and try to make the case, “The dog really wanted it! At at least it was a female schnauzer!”
(Tip o’ the hat to “Regular” for inspiring that last man-on-dog sex reference. I never would have thought about it ’til you mentioned it.)
Of COURSE she should expect attacks. That’s politics.
Maybe if his wife gets beat up enough by the right, Obama will have second thoughts about making nice with them.
Well Hank, I think your opinion is as wrong as you think mine is. Anything you post I can find something in opposition, anything I post you will be able to do the same. We do each get ONE vote.
“We do each get ONE vote.”
Let’s make a deal.
I’ll promise not to vote if you don’t vote.
Are you in?
NOPE! This year I have a candidate I am looking forward to voting FOR. Been awhile, it will be a pleasure.
Monkey, you are so transparent that, well, frankly, it’s gross. You don’t want to address issues. You would like to divert all attention from where it is intended to where you want it to be. I betcha that there will be time to address the Mrs. McCain issue. Now we are on the Mrs.(I am proud of America for the first time)Obama
Sorry. If you don’t want to play by the rules, you can just leave.
I second the call for a thread exposing John McCain’s SHAMEFUL treatment of his first wife.
Monkeyhawk you reduce this thread to a cheap discussion of beastiallity and Lindainks gives us all a dose of feel good politics. I feel all warm and fuzzy listening to the democrats but cringe when I see these two in the white house.
This has nothing to do with race but everything to do with qualifications. The man has no history that would qualify him to be anything but a good press secretary and he has a wife who runs off at the mouth on regular ocassions.
Now he doesn’t vet key players in his campaign because – well who knows. He has friends in low places and refuses to say a president shouldn’t be friends with avowed terrorists who are unrepentant.
Its a race to see who buries who first.

And the “Race Card” is played(by the Libs).
I third the call for a thread exposing John McCain’s SHAMEFUL treatment of his first wife.
This sounds like a democratunderground, lib.com,
or a demshateamerica.org type of story. i.e untrue
My HOPE (there’s THAT WORD again!) is Obama will allow McCain and his supporters to go as low as they can and show much about themselves in the efforts.
High five, wsc! That was good and soooo true!
“And the “Race Card” is played”
I guess you would have to explain how that is “playing the race card?”
Is any mention of race, playing the race card?
Really Linda?
I tried to start a little political dialog.
“I also see Obama as a good leader, . . .”
Which of Obama’s leadership qualities do you admire most? When has he ever been in charge of anything? Who do you think is behind the scenes running his campaign?
What in his background qualifies him to be the CinC of the most powerful military in the world?
When you get a discussion about Obama past opinions and feelings and try to discuss facts it gets a little scarey. Maybe that’s why the dems decline.
Not that I’m afraid of strong women WS(well, just my wife) But your comment contains an element of truth. Mrs. Obama, as she is now perceived, is a definite hindrance to her husband being elected president.
Or, maybe one of McCain’s supporters will be able to list the positives of his candidacy! And remind us again about whether it is his words as a candidate or his actions as a voting Senator that are what is most important. Which one is the current position? All those flip-flops are confusing. Then yesterday he promised to veto every beer. Oh, my!

I keep seeing this dodge over and over again. I don’t support McCain. If you’d like me to cut and paste 10gig worth of literature on Ron Paul and why I support him, I would be glad to.
So what actions has Obama performed, policy written, anything beyond a speach that gets you so fired up?
Hank, I’ve played this game with Nathan. I call it endless questions and it never gets to be dialog. Maybe he took lessons from you. I don’t know the rules and have NO desire to learn them. I know all those answers and know FULL WELL none will satisfy you. But they don’t need to. There will be more than one name on the ballot! You vote for your choice and me mine. It’s a wonderful world!
“as she is now perceived, is a definite hindrance to her husband being elected president.”
To some, most of whom would not have voted for him anyway. For the rest of us, we see her as a strong woman, incredibly smart and capable. She is an asset to Barack.

I have an answer: McCain is not Obama. McCain is not as ‘Left Minded’ as Obama…..For me I am voting against Obama and not “for” McCain so to speak.
“McCain is not as ‘Left Minded’ as Obama”
He’s not nearly as right minded either.
The Obamas are going to make a great First Family. Can’t wait to see those kids host the Easter Egg Hunt. In the eyes of the world, we’ll go immediately from the scummy bottom of the Bush Outhouse (where they planned torture of all things) to nation respected and admired for its intellect, integrity, innovation, competitiveness and compassion.
Linda misspeaking and correcting yourself immediately is certainly better that a man who thinks we have 59 states, two he wasn’t able to campaign in.
McCain went on to say that he would veto every bill that reached his desk with earmarks added. He has done this very thing since he has been in the senate. Refused to vote for a bill with attached earmarks. That is a history he is proud of. Your turn. What is Obama proud of?
I think bush’s tax cuts for the most wealthy should be repealed. Obama says he will do that.
Government generates NO income. They take our money, spend it (and more!) I like where Obama wants to spend my money!
I think affordable health care for every American is a worthy goal. Obama wants that too.
I think NCLB should be left behind. Obama agrees.
I think science should be respected. Obama agrees.
I think our soldiers should be brought home from an endless war that makes NO ONE any safer. Obama agrees.
I think The Bill of Rights shouldn’t be abused. Obama says he will go back through signing statements and bring before Congress any and all that took away our rights as citizens.
Obama speaks to me with respect, without arrogance, and he makes me want to be a better person and a better American. I have many areas that could use improvement. Someone who inspires me to want to improve is a leader in my book!
As I stated anyone who chooses can criticize every word I type. You asked, I answered.
My opinions are as good and as useless as any others. And I still have ONE vote.
Kansasdem those easter egg hunts inspire me too. Wow.
Now if he can just do something about national security, the economy, lowering taxes instead of raising them, deficit spending, etc..
But I am sure looking forward to see those kids hunting easter eggs!

You mean if she sits and smiles and keeps her darn nose out of politics?
Sorry, I fully expect Michelle to be AS outspoken and leading as HIllary was. I want my first lady to be involved. And maybe she’ll get a dose of what Hillary has been through.
Fair enough Linda,
If you don’t have anything, you don’t have anything.
Must be painful to actually have to think about and rationalize about your candidate’s qualifications instead of just repeating the party line.
The man has no leadership experience or qualifications.
I think this election is going to be a lot about Obama. People will either vote for him or against him, McCain is just along for the ride.
Linda so you agree with what he wants to do. I respect that but I ask again what has he done. He has always talked big, refused to take a stand on issues so he has no history one way or another. Hasn’t written nor sponsored any meaningful legislation either in the his state or national senate.
In other words he is an empty suit with a wife who has trouble controlling her mouth. Doesn’t sound electable to me.
My vote will go to McCain simply because he isn’t Obama.
Nice insult Hank. It shows more about you than it says about me.
McCain can’t effectively argue against Obama’s liberal views which is why McCain wasn’t the best choice for conservatives and why conservatives will not defend McCain.
However, conservatives will vote for McCain nevertheless. McCain is much better then Obama who obfuscates every issue and avoids coming down hard on detailing specifics of his administration.
Look up what Obama’s stance is on Nuclear Power for case in point:
Barack Obama says nuclear power should be explored as an energy option. But Barack Obama is not in favor of storing nuclear wast in Yucca mountain!
He favors the pros of nuclear power (clean efficient energy) as EVERYBODY would but because of the cons (nuclear waste) he opposes it. Obama talks about the benefits of Nuke Power to get people to think he is in favor of it. Then he talks about only supporting it if the one inextricable negative is removed. So when push comes to shove, Obama is opposed to Nuclear Power.
Obama runs from controversy. Obama is not a qualified leader for this country.
But after all the pandering McCain has done to get the nomination, will he actually veto every bill with earmarks? John McCain played his cards well since 2000 and since he has been a good ole boy and voted with Bush 95% of the time (which I’m sure some of those votes were for earmarks), he is now the Republican nominee.
But exactly who is this McCain? McCain has flip flopped so many times recently, I’m not sure which side is up anymore.

Ben –
I thought you had a bit of class. Was I wrong? Just how is McCain’s first marriage relevant?”
My point is that if the McCain people choose to play that way then it should be turned right back at them. Kerry ‘turned the other cheek’ with the Swiftboaters; Obama should not do the same. If the Repubs choose to hit below the belt then we should strike back – TWICE AS HARD!
“You mean if she sits and smiles and keeps her darn nose out of politics?”
No. I didn;t say that at all.
“I want my first lady to be involved.”
Maybe with issues of her own, but I am not electing a “first lady” Her husband yes, her no. If she is running to be “involved” then she gets the same vetting and the microscopic look as the candidate. Is that okay, or will you whine about fully investigating someone “involved” in the government?
“But Barack Obama is not in favor of storing nuclear wast in Yucca mountain!”
If you read the fine print in Obama’s position, you will find that he wants to store nuclear waste in your basement, RFL. Are you okay with that?
Well Linda and WS I see you are lost when it comes to Obama’s qualifications. So is almost 50% of the voting public right now. As the election nears expect to see that number rise. He has no history, nothing to tell us who he is, beyond his words you haven’t found anything either so you know what I am talking about.
Heheheheheheh. You cons sure are in a snit today.
“Bth when did character become a deciding point in a political campaign. Or is that just for the republican?”
Well, I’m not Ben, but I’m a thinkin’ it happened about the time bush said, in his 2000 campaign, that he would restore character to the white house.
And we all see how well that worked…
Since when is lying a good character trait?
Only in con world!
IOKIYAAR
“Well Linda and WS I see you are lost when it comes to Obama’s qualifications.”
Barack Obama has more experience than Abraham Lincoln when he took office. I think most will say that Lincoln did a pretty good job.
Who wants to be she’s gonna want a link?
If your memory is that short, granny, Google it yourself.
“Kerry ‘turned the other cheek’ with the Swiftboaters;”
Perhaps because he knew them, served with them and knew they weren’t lieing.
John McCain……………….
“it was “not too important” when American forces could come home from Iraq and that, “What’s important is the casualties in Iraq. Americans are in South Korea; Americans are in Japan, American troops are in Germany. That’s all fine.”
Really, John? How are you going to pay for it?
And the Cons are worried about Michelle Obama?
Give me a break.
Thanks ksfg – and i would add the usual GOP ‘family values’ mantra. It sounds real funny coming from these ‘dump the old wife for a rich new one’ crowd. Meanwhile I would be considered weak on family values because I advocate tolerance for gay marriage etc. Never mind that I am still married to Wife 1.0 after 37 years.
“…to nation respected and admired for its intellect, integrity, innovation, competitiveness and compassion.”
You forgot “admired for the nice Easter Egg hunts.”

Newsflash: The candidates for President of the United States 2009 are Barack Obama and John McCain.
Bush isn’t running.
Also unable to recognize that I am able to see the nic which is listed first and know a pissing contest when I see it. And, did I mention I’m smart enough to leave those contests?
I can’t imagine how anyone knows which McCain they’re voting for. In his world words mean more than actions. ie, vote against tax cuts as a Senator; want to keep them as a president.
But no one here has EVER said they are voting FOR McCain. All they have are criticisms.
It’s a good world!
“But no one here has EVER said they are voting FOR McCain.”
I am voting for McCain.
“Bush isn’t running.”
Wrong – McCain voted 95% of the time with Bush – he is running on Bush’s record.
First Church of the Obamesssiah, where he is going to save them from themselves.”
No, where he is going to save us from 8 years of hell under Bush.
“And a candidate’s kids, no matter how many pretty pictures they pose for, are off limits, unless and until they insert themselves in any substantive way in the campaign.”
You mean like how the republicans picked on how ‘ugly’ Chelsea was? Who’s laughing now.
“Outlander,
It is the old liberal argument that because someone isn’t perfect we shouldn’t bother to have any standards of values at all.”
Your ’standards’ are mostly unrealistic. That means it can’t be a standard when you can’t practice it, that’s hypocricy. Live in reality for once.
“‘Michelle’s story is a lot more mainstream American than Cindy McCain inheriting a brewery.’””
Yeah, Michelle worked her way up, and the McCains are elitist snobs who were never poor. And when is the media going to get serious about asking those questions about McCain’s treatment of women?
Hank, I’d rather have someone who listens and accepts other people’s good ideas rather than someone who demands we follow his disasterous ideas. Just because its original doesn’t mean its good, and the democrats good ideas have been ignored for years.
“If John WMD McSame showed up at a campaign rally and started butt-fuc#ing a schnauzer, you’d show up in this forum and try to make the case, “The dog really wanted it! At at least it was a female schnauzer!”
God that is so true….and its true for Obama supporters as well. However I’m gonna use it. And I agree, McCain’s wives should face such scrutiny, we dems are just too f’n nice.
“Maybe if his wife gets beat up enough by the right, Obama will have second thoughts about making nice with them.”
I agree. Michelle should learn to appreciate Hillary, they’d make a hellova good team together if Michelle would pull that cob out of her..
“I second the call for a thread exposing John McCain’s SHAMEFUL treatment of his first wife.”
Heck I call for it for all his wives and others.
“Not that I’m afraid of strong women WS(well, just my wife) But your comment contains an element of truth. Mrs. Obama, as she is now perceived, is a definite hindrance to her husband being elected president.”
Again, because she’s not a ‘please don’t beat me tonight’ type like Cindy? Its no wonder she needed drug therapy.
“So what actions has Obama performed, policy written, anything beyond a speach that gets you so fired up?”
He’s not a right wing conservative. I agree though, its the same argument I made for why we needed Hillary. I’m going to hope that he listens to those around him with more experience, willing to build a consensus on what we should do instead of demanding we all follow. Obama wants us out of the war, wants to focus on getting our economy back on track, and getting some semblence of healthcare.
“My vote will go to McCain simply because he isn’t Obama.”
As if you’d had voted for any democrat in the first place. Of course anyone who’d vote for McCain to continue the Bush legacy is dumber than a box of rocks.
Then I can’t ever say that again. Hope I remember. That remember of mine grows shorter each year. ;-(
Hey, how can you trust McCain? When he takes differing positions on the same topic, which one do you believe?
Come on Linda!
I responded to one of your posts and you are unresponsive in return. I’s a political discussion. I can discuss intelligently about Obama’s qualifications (or lack of) but I don’t see much meaningful dialog.
Insult? LOL!! We’re not talking family here! We’re talking about a South Chicago liberal that wants to be president!
What leadership experience does he have?
Based on his personal relationships; terrorist, criminals, Black Liberation Ministers, Louis Farakan. . . Aren’t you just a little concerned?
Unresponsive?
I’ve wasted all afternoon here responding. There are a few posters I won’t respond to, you aren’t one of them.
Did you even read my post around 2:30ish? Ya know, before you slapped me with the if you don’t have anything. Surely you don’t expect anyone to pander to you enough to give details? Sorry, I won’t!
I still have the ONE vote.
Oh, and my only concern is that McCain might be elected. That would be a sad four years.
Linda,
I can respect your position on Obama. The same arguments you use against McCain, though, can be used against Obama. He has a lot of ‘Blue Sky’ ideas but can he back them up with previous actions and can he pay for them?
It’s a chance I’ll take, Sol. We’ll get more reasonable judge appointments at minimum.
And, Sol, although Obama is a newcomer compared to McCain, he hasn’t flipped and flopped like McCain. If he hasn’t said anything I find that better and more reassuring than taking both sides of an issue. Which one do you believe?
While I greatly fear economic disaster with Obama, if forced between the two, I take Obama. For the constitutional stance and the war stance.
We can dislike Hillary for many reasons and none of them have anything to do with her being a woman. Enemies list, anyone?
“But that does not mean all is forgiven by others in the Clinton universe.
For proof, look no further than Doug Band, chief gatekeeper to former President Bill Clinton.
Band keeps close track of the past allies and beneficiaries of the Clintons who supported Obama’s campaign, three Clinton associates and campaign officials said. Indeed, he is widely known as a member of the Clinton inner circle whose memory is particularly acute on the matter of who has been there for the couple — and who has not.”
“Based on his personal relationships; terrorist, criminals, Black Liberation Ministers, Louis Farakan. . . Aren’t you just a little concerned?”
How can you with a straight face tie Obama to Farakan? That’s one I am looking forward to reading when I return around 5pm. I doubt seriously though if I will be able to keep a straight face when I read the answer.
So why would Republicans bash Michelle, other than to divert attention from McSame’s support for Bush’s Misbegotten War, Bush’s God-awful budget deficit, Bush’s tax gifts to the ultra-rich, Bush’s failure to support stem cell research and otherwise make the United States’s less competitive in the world? Can’t wait for the first debates. One of the questions McSame won’t get is what he thinks of Mrs. Obama. The war, its cost, his flip flops on taxes and immigration and tax breaks for the oil companies. Someone help McSame do his homework.
Steven, He doesn’t answer questions, he doesn’t make explanations. Hurry back ’cause it’s nice to read you but don’t expect you’ll see anything of substance. We’ll find something else to laugh about!
Should have read: don’t expect you’ll see anything of substance FROM HANK.
Clark,
Can you read further in Obama’s vault of fine print material and tell us if Obama is either pro-CO2, Pro-Nuclear or Pro-turnoff the lights?
While I greatly fear economic disaster with Obama, if forced between the two, I take Obama. For the constitutional stance and the war stance.
-Sol
Obama has a constitutional stance? On what grounds?
How does opposing a war translate into ending it when Obama will not publish details for how and when to end it?
Is history destined to repeat itself? A presidential candidate wins election simply by claiming to be anti-war, yet continues or starts the war once elected when it is realized there are no apparent workable alternative.
If it works for Obama good for him, Bad for us for all the economic and cultural liberal baggage he will bring with him.

think The Bill of Rights shouldn’t be abused. Obama says he will go back through signing statements and bring before Congress any and all that took away our rights as citizens.
Steven,
I believe the ties to Farakan(spelling?) are primarily related to Obama’s ties with the Reverend Wright and an award given to Farakan. I also think that Obama had through his campaign officials at some point by saying this:
“I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan,” Obama said in a statement released by his aides. “I assume that Trumpet Magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decision with which I agree.”
(Quote found here:
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/01/obama_distances.html)
I don’t support Obama myself, and have my own reasons. But I’ll provide information on how I see it.
Oh yeah RFL we’re not falling for that. Last time we talked about withdrawal, you all beeched that we were telling the enemy when we were gonna leave!
Now pay attention to the news..IRAQ is about to force us out of their country. You know, the government that WE put in place.
And Please, Michelle, the 50’s called and they want their hair back.
Political_mama, The Obama’s are milking the JFK media love affair. Michelle is playing Jackie-O.
Thank you djr4488. I guess I will still wait for Hank to tell us why he thinks there is a connection. My experience leads me to think that Hank and his son do not like to answer questions that might put them in a bad light – this is my assumption, don’t know if that is true or not. But a potential explanation for why they ask so many question and answer so very few.
Let’s assume you’re correct, djr4488. With the six degrees of seperation assumption that would mean that Hank knows someone, who knows someone else, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows Dennis Rader. Applying Hank’s logic, we can conclude that Hank obtains sexual gratification by torturing animals and people. Makes as much sense as Hank’s implied assertions above.
In truth, I believe that Hank is gratified by torturing logic. That conculusion is based on reading his posts here.
Good afternoon Steven!
LOL!!!
Terrorists! Criminals! Black Liberation Ministers!
And it’s Farrakan that has your panties in a wad!
Well, let’s see, Obama’s minister, mentor, friend of over 20 years, the good Rev. Wright gives Farrakan a lifetime achievement award.
Farrakan is a shaker and mover in Chicago politics. Obama can’t get his ticket punched without Farrakan being envolved.
But, then, I guess you’re right, no connnection. And Obama hasn’t disavowed the connection over a dozen times either!
LOL
Actually Fellow Travelers,
I’m at work. Only BLOG when I have a spare moment. I’ll answer any decent questions you have, time permitting.
Obama’s church of twenty years gave Farrakan an award. Obama’s minister is close to Farrakan.
SO, I guess you’re OK with Obama’s long time association with the terrorists?
LOL
Dear Hank Price,
Since you love guns, you might want to read this.
The Farrakhan’s security services did not carry guns.
‘In The Housing Projects, Farrakhan Wins Respect By Bringing Safety, Hope — Security Services Offer Non-Violent Assistance’
http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19940227&slug=1897421
“We tried to clean up with security guards with guns on their hips, but the result was just more confrontation and no less crime,” said William Moorhead, owner of a company that manages some Chicago housing projects. Moorhead said that since he hired Farrakhan’s New Life Self-Development Co., “the difference has been night and day. . . . They treat people like human beings and show honest concern for their safety. It works.”
McCain, the son of an admiral, finished 5th from the bottom in his Naval Academy Class, he crashed 5 airplanes, had the record of a mediocre, at best pilot. After his release from captivity he had a charmed career based solely on his being a POW and the son of an influential admiral. He was given command of an aircraft carrier, selected in front of at least a half dozen others with better service records — he was a hot head then — he is today — look at him he is a teetering old man solely dependent on his handlers to pick up the pieces after his numerous faux pas —- his torture experience as a POW makes him suspect as to his mental stability … he’s gotten a lot of mileage and good will from his pow captivity —- does not make him good presidential material —– he says he is a man of peace — yet he laughs and scoffs at the prospect of being able to bomb Iran ….. ..
“Farrakan is a shaker and mover in Chicago politics. Obama can’t get his ticket punched without Farrakan being envolved.”

Political_mama, The Obama’s are milking the JFK media love affair. Michelle is playing Jackie-O.
That would make Cindy McBush the wicked witch of the west ………….
““Farrakan is a shaker and mover in Chicago politics. Obama can’t get his ticket punched without Farrakan being envolved.””
Horsecrap. Farrakhan lives in St. Louis.
I like a first lady who speaks her mind, even if it’s something we don’t neccesarily want to hear…the truth often hurts. I’m sure being a black woman, she has experienced her share of racial and gender discrimination. I’m glad she never let it get in the way of her becoming educated and sucessful.
I’d rather see her say things that may cause people to raise her eyebrows occasionally than that contrived smile Laura Bush always wears to hide her pain from being married to a moron. At least Michelle Obama may encourage people to think.
Michelle is playing Jackie-O? It was RARE for anyone to hear Jackie Kennedy even speak. I never knew what her voice sounded like until Kennedy had been dead for years.
Michelle is no “Jackie-O”.
Thanks, for the link, Cosmos, I think?
What’s your point? I love puppies, I don’t really love guns, they’re just a tool, kinda like a hammer. Only, I don’t see hammers in the Bill of Rights.
Did you notice the date of the article you linked to? February 27th, 1994. I always appreciate a little timely information about the good Mr. Farrakhan!
Here’s a more recent article concerning Farrakhan’s little security company:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE3DD1039F931A15751C0A960958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=2
It’s more recent, February 22, 1996.
“. . . And a security concern, the New Life Self Development Company, recently lost a $2 million contract at a public housing project in Chicago and is being sued by the city to recover more than $52,000 in back taxes.”
It seems that Farrakhan’s little adventure into unarmed security was little more than a scam. I wonder how much pull you’d have to have in the crooked Chicago politics to get such a lush contract? I wonder how incredibly stupid you’d have to be to lose it!
He still qualifies for the UCC lifetime achievment award though!
Good evening Mr. Clark!
From Wikipedia:
Louis Farrakhan (born Louis Eugene Walcott, May 11, 1933), is the Supreme Minister of the Nation of Islam (NOI) as the National Representative of Elijah Muhammad. He is also well-known as an advocate for African American interests and a critic of American society. Farrakhan currently resides in Kenwood, an affluent neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, and part time at a Nation of Islam farm in New Buffalo, Michigan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Farrakhan
Looks like ol’ Louis and Barrack are almost neighbors!
Obama doesn’t advocate the ideas of Farrakhan…he did denounce him afterall…kinda like McCain is trying to distance himself from that crazy preacher whose endorsemnet HE once sought.
What’s the difference, Hank? Or do you think McCain is really Rev. Hagee in sheep’s clothing?
To me it isn’t so much Farrakhan. It is Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers, Dohrn, Father Flegler, Jim Johnson, etc.. He is either a horrible judge of character or easily duped. Either one will not be a good trait in our next president.
WS made a mistake. Wow!
That is fine. Let the Republicans rip into Michelle like an alligator rips into a dog! Let them try their best to shred her to bits! Because… that means we can take a very close look at Cynthia McCain. We can ask questions like:
1. After Cindy McCain was caught stealing funds from a charity and having doctors write multiple prescriptions for painkillers to feed her addictions, why was she not prosecuted?
2. Cindy McCain was having an affair with her now husband Johnny while he was still married to wife #1 who had waited 5 years for him as a POW. After wife number 1 was seriously injured and disabled from a car wreck, Johnny desserted her for Cindy. How does Cindy feel about that?
3. Cindy inherited a beer distributorship but yet belongs to a political party where drinking a beer is a SIN for regular people but for lushes like her and Bush I guess it is OK, huh?
Good pick up, Hank! These people are really something. 1994??

And another thing. That 5 aircraft McCain crashed.
Goooogle that. You’ll see where it comes from.
More hogwash. Crashed 5 planes. And lived?
McCain is either Chuck Norris’s better or it’s BS.
I pick BS, cause nobody is badder than Chuck.
Chuck clogs the toilet when he pees!
I agree okobserver!
I threw Farrakhan in as an after thought. Terrorists, crooks and Black Liberation preachers!
Then they get their panties in a wad over Farrakhan!
It’s like me accusing them of eating $hit sandwiches and they call me a liar because they never eat bread!
Come on Mary! It’s an Obama thread!
I don’t like McCain. I think he is a dangerous nitwit. Having McCain and Obama as the nominees leaves me little or no choice.
Kinda like being up to your neck in cow manure and someone throws horse apples at you. Do you duck?
Thankfully, I’m a conservative republican and the current nitwit that is president effects me very little.
Dear Hank,
The “point” was in my post — armed security guards did not work.
Yes, I noticed the date.
How many other businesses in the U.S. have had financial problems, and owed back taxes?
Trumpet Newsmagazine, the church newsletter gave the award, not the church.
“Thankfully, I’m a conservative republican and the current nitwit that is president effects me very little.”
Another BINGO! Too many people base their happiness on who’s the prez. Just drive on.
If it’s a dem prez, just save more money for the taxes that are sure to come.
Conservatives: We work so you don’t have to.
Cosmos, son!
Your article was from the Boston Herald, 1994. I’m sure there’s a story there somewhere, but you’ll never read it in the Boston Herald!
Two years after the Boston Herald puff piece Farrakhan’s security service was fired. I’m sure that it wasn’t for any good reason, like their unarmed guards not being effective!
Most of Farrakhan’s trained monkeys that work for him are ex-convicts. Pretty hard to get them licensed to carry weapons I suppose. Just a guess. But then, that’s all we got, we’ll never get the real story from the BH or the NYT.
Correct Fleettwood!
If I had to pick the worst president in my lifetime it would probably be either Carter or LBJ, toss up.
Then would come Clinton.
I think we are about to pick a president that is even worse than anyone in my life time so far. Obamaaood or McCain, take your pick.
If I was a betting man, and I am, I’d bet that McCain will be our next President. We’ll have to wait until the VPs are selected to put the final odds on the bet, but as it stands now, you could get a lot of money from me if Obama is the next president.
We haven’t heard the last from Hillary. The Clintons don’t leave gracefully.
Dear Hank,
Do you have proof that William Moorhead lied?
“If I was a betting man, and I am, I’d bet that McCain will be our next President.”
Ditto that. For McCain to be running after Bush and still keeping close this early is good news.
My man was Fred Thompson. Too bad he never got out of the hammock! McCain was not my first or second choice, but, unlike some of the Libs who say they won’t vote for Obama, I will vote for McCain.
Although, I may vote for Nader to give him encouragement. It is about the electoral votes after all. I voted for Nader in 2000.
As long as I am sure my man will win, there is no telling what I will do.
Never said he lied.
It would be interesting to see what he has to say about Farrakhan’s security service two years later, after they were fired.
Yep, I’ll vote for McCain too. He’ll bring a little more competent administration. Hell, Obama can’t even pick three competent people to vet his future VP!
I got all excited about Fred, sent him $100 just before he quit. (or maybe it was he failed to start)
Then I sent the Huckster $100 just before he quit.
Wish now I’d sent McCain a little money, maybe I’d jinxed him too!
If anybody wants to take bets with Hank?
Make sure his wife will front him the money!
Obama is something of an ego maniac.
He only REALLY gets his back up when he or his wife are challenged. His church not so much.
And that’s not necessarily a bad thing going forward. Because the cons are set to go after him AND his wife hard. Maybe he will lose any illusions about con idealism or diplomacy. And with a Dem House and Senate, he’ll be able to hit back hard.
You should send Obama a hundred!
Evening BJ,
Mommy still paying your mortgage?
Don’t need my wife to front me any money, I’ve been saving up the allowance she gives me each month.
I’ll send it in Jay’s name!
bluejay keeps yammering about the throw away line Obama said about Reagan.
bluejay is the only one who believed it.
BlueJay has selective gullibility. He believes what ever fits his twisted little world view. Like most liberals.
Nothing new here. The Republicans attacked Hillary in 92, Teresa Heinz Kerry in ‘04 and now Michelle Obama in ‘08
I see a pattern here, do you?
“Nothing new here. The Republicans attacked Hillary in 92, Teresa Heinz Kerry in ‘04 and now Michelle Obama in ‘08″
Hillary was easy. Lots to attack. Teresa, boring. Same complaints the Libs are making about Mrs. McCain (rich). The only thing we have on Michelle is her “America only recently hasn’t sucked” comment. Not much, but it’s early.
There sure has been alot said about Ms. Obama. And everything and everybody else thrown in for good measure. Don’t know the lady, never met her, and probably never will. Has anyone ever watched her eyes when the camera is on Barrack and not focused on her? The lady scares the living bejesus out of me, and it has nothing to do with her color or anything else. It is based totally on that sense we all have that keeps us alive. This lady scares me through and through.
“This lady scares me through and through.”
You know, don’t you, this makes you a sexist bigot pig? Probably a pedophile for good measure.
Thank god she isn’t rich, at least Obama won’t be called a gigglo. I read an interview with Senator McCain first wife the other day. Now there is a woman with class.
“The lady scares the living bejesus out of me, and it has nothing to do with her color or anything else. It is based totally on that sense we all have that keeps us alive. This lady scares me through and through.”
Sorry you scare do easily flatlandersg. Hahaha, couldn’t past that one by.
Let’s hope we talk more about the rationale for spending billions a day on occupying Iraq than we spend talking about the candidates’ wives and children. Cindy is older and has that addiction problem to explain, and the plea bargain with the feds, which included restitution to the pharmacy she stole from, etc. Really, let’s just leave the kids and spouses out of this.

HLP,
“Most of Farrakhan’s trained monkeys that work for him are ex-convicts.”
Heartwarming, really, to see the predictability with which you turn to anti-black racist stereotypes. They go nicely with your snickering use of anti-Semitic slanders.
http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?in_article_id=168752
This is delightful: Laura Bush has been visiting The Troops in Afghanistan, and she’s doing it in typical trailer trash princess style. She flew on a military troop carrier, but she sure as hell wouldn’t sit in the “regular chairs.” So they dragged a luxury trailer on board that features the juxtaposing combo of cheap wood paneling and first-class seating.
“Heartwarming, really, to see the predictability with which you turn to anti-black racist stereotypes.”
Where in the world do you get the “anti-black racist stereotypes.”??
“Laura Bush has been visiting The Troops in Afghanistan, and she’s doing it in typical trailer trash princess style.”
Sexist pig.
“Heartwarming, really, to see the predictability with which you turn to anti-southern, democrat voting, woman stereotypes.”
You really shouldn’t dis your base.
fleettwood,
Nope. Not playing your game. It’s sufficiently obvious that you should be able to figure it out for yourself.

I hope that you and HLP will be so kind, in the future, as to keep your racist circle jerk to yourselves.
fleettwood,
Quite a trick there, imputing quotes to other people so you can go after them.
I’m right here. Attack away.
This one is for GMC70, who has argued that it’s just CF2K’s “perception” that they carry water for the right.
So, GMC70, read on:
“During a segment discussing conservative attacks against Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, the network described the former as “Obama’s baby mama.”
I checked, and sure enough, as you can see below, our e-mailer was right. In fact, that description was displayed on screen several times during the segment, which featured anchor Megyn Kelly and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, an FNC contributor.”
http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/06/11/fox_obama/index.html?source=refresh
So, let’s review: by choosing to run the caption, Fox News called Michelle Obama the “baby mama” of Barack Obama.
So, GMC70, still want to argue what you argued before?
Or, to put it another way, want to hasten the slow decline of your credibility?
I’ll check back in tomorrow for your answer.
Sorry: ‘they,’ in the first sentence, being Fox News (sic).

Sorry, Hankster,
My panies, as you so kindly refer to them, are not in a wad.
Where is your data that Michelle Obama is what you say she is? Can’t do it? Big surprise there.
Hank, you are a liar. Please admit it. We will carry on, as we can.
Night. Mofo.
“Can’t do it? Big surprise there.”
Hank doesn’t like “colored folk.”
Anything that he posts regarding African American people has to be considered in that regard.
“Imputing anti-Semitic smears to Ed, fleettwood, doesn’t get YOU off the hook for having been the one who made them.”
If you haven’t noticed, I do this to ed every chance I get.
What I find amazing is you finding my post.
I stand by it. ed does seem to have a problem with the Jewish folks.
I’m not the one who equals monkeys with Black people. That would be cf2k.
Whenever “monkey” is mentioned, that’s the first thing he thinks of. Who has the problem?
Clark,
Once more, you are correct. Poor ole Hank. He was working at the drag strip in Winfield/Arkansas City in the 1950’s 60’s. Why would we ask him to have any idea about the rest of the 20th {or 21st} century??? Poor old stupid bass turd is not able to keep up. He is one to be pittied, not scorned. Thank you. Good night.
Insults make the Earth warm.
No wonder the Libs want us to pay to make it cooler.
Somebody upthread asked this about Obama???
“What in his background qualifies him to be the CinC of the most powerful military in the world?”
WELL —-
Maybe the same background as Abe Lincoln, or Thomas Jefferson?? Or, FDR??? Or Herbert Hoover??
Maybe the same background as GWB?? Or Ronald Reagan(ooops he played one once in a movie??)
NOWHERE in the Constitution is it required that a President of the United States have military background or service… Just aint in there… In fact, there is NO outline at all for “qualifications” to be elected President, except for place of birth, and age…
SO, maybe we can just forget all of the hogwash about this matter?? And stick to the issues at hand….
Of course Farrakan and Obama are great pals. They’re the same color! It’s like Hank and Dennis Rader are exactly alike because they’re both white Christians.
“Maybe the same background as Abe Lincoln, or Thomas Jefferson?? Or, FDR??? Or Herbert Hoover??
Maybe the same background as GWB?? Or Ronald Reagan(ooops he played one once in a movie??)”
Poor chas. Anybody want to take this one?
Good post, Chas.
Thomas Jefferson said that his greatest accomplishment as president was that no American soldier died in battle.
That’s the difference between a great president and the lying POS we’ve got now.
Ha! George WMD Bush – the War President – landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier on a fighter plane – dressed up like a pilot – playing dress up like a ten year old boy.
Could you imagine Truman doing that after Japan surrendered?
Not likely.
Abraham Lincoln did serve in combat, kind of, in the Blackhawk Wars.
GWB was trained as a pilot at taxpayer expense when his dad’s buddies pushed his name to the top of a huge waiting list in the Texas Air Nat’l Guard so he wouldn’t have to actually serve in a hot zone (Vietnam). As soon as the Air Force instituted mandatory drug testing, Air Guardsman Bush never took another physical and abruptly stopped flying.
Nothing to see there.
Ronald Reagan never served in any capacity. Maybe that’s why he sent 200 Marines to their deaths in Beirut for nothing.
Clinton never served. Carter did, in the navy. He now has a ship named after him. I’m surprised Hank doesn’t know him.
FDR, the man who won WW2, never served. Truman? Don’t know. Nixon? Don’t think so. Johnson? Can’t remember either . . .
Interestingly, neither Bush nor Dick Cheney actually served in a war zone. Dick Cheney was Sec’ry of Defense under HW Bush and he had never served.
But that was just a stepping stone to amassing billion-dollar contracts as CEO of Halliburton.
They are naming a ship after Clinton. It will be called the U.S.S. DressStain.
They are naming a ship after McCluer. It will be called the U.S.S. BrownStain.
And why does a guy, walking safely on a carrier, not loosen the crotch straps on his parachute…?
Poor Fleettwood… has NO concept of reading comprehension…. Fleett, show where I am WRONG, however, I did forget about the Blackhawk wars… re: Lincoln… But the rest of those??? NONE HAD MILITARY BACKGROUND ENOUGH TO BE COMMANDER IN CHIEF BEFORE BECOMING PRESIDENT…

==========================================
Just what the hell is your damned point Fleett??
Just what I figured… the only point you got is the one on the top of your head LOL
“What’s the new name for an advisor to the Obama campaign? Answer: Speed bump…”
fleettwood,
Calling the person “racist” who calls out racist language is a pretty limp tactic, even for you. It’s racists like HLP–and you, judging by your defensiveness and sly effort to shift the blame for racist language away from the person who used it–who hide behind racist code words.
Glad to see you standing by your anti-Semitic statement that the “Jews are always selling something.” Unlike HLP, at least you own up to your anti-Semitism.
Been watching the silliness.
CF, at times, you do indeed take the cake.
Fleet isn’t right about much, but he’s got Ed dead to rights. One doesn’t have to “impute” anti-semitism to Ed; he wades in all by himself.
And yes, in attacking Hank, you are carefully playing the race card, even you deny playing the race card. Nice. Ya gotta give CF points for subtle hypocracy.
Anyone who refers to himself in the third person on a blog takes himself WAY to seriously. Perhaps that’s a good thing; I certainly don’t.
watch out for attacks on Cindy and John Mccain.
How many Obamaites does it take to screw in a light bulb?
GMC70,
So, let me see if I follow what has you so exercised:
Calling out racists = playing the race card: bad.
Using racist terms and buzzwords = ?
So, calling racism out when it’s used isn’t OK? Got it. And racist terms? How about those? Like referring to African-Americans as “monkeys?”
I guess I’m not shocked to see you attack the calling out of racist dogwhistle terms, while going silent as to their actual use.
No surprise, likewise, that you ducked my question about the racist reference to Michelle Obama on Fox “News”. That fact, GMC70, might tend to make a person suspect that you take *yourself* a little too seriously to want to concede that you were wrong.
Oh, and GMC70? One more thing. I recall very clearly your insistence that there was nothing racist about Bob Corker’s 2006 Senatorial campaign ad, in which an apparently naked white woman intimated that she had had sex with Rep. Harold Ford Jr. Here’s what you said at the time:
“I’ve seen the Corker ad. Racism there is in the eye of the beholder. That the pretty blond says “call me” in the context of the commercial was funny. If you see racism there, it speaks more to your attitudes than the ad.”
http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2007/02/an_inauspicious/
A stock response that you go on repeating. Hate to break it to you, but one person who disagrees with you is Sen. Bob Corker himself.
“Yet the national party almost blew the race near the end, Corker said, by running an ad that many saw as racist. The commercial, aired without Corker’s knowledge, included a young, blonde, white actress declaring that she had met Ford “at the Playboy party.” It ended with her whispering the words: “Harold, call me.”
Corker was furious, and not just because his six-point lead melted into a four-point deficit. The party eventually pulled the radioactive ad, and Corker won narrowly. The senator has advised Republican colleagues in tough races this year to resist national party ads that mention their opponents.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/15/AR2008051503543.html
When E.J. Dionne says that Corker’s anger “was not just because” his lead melted away, GMC70, the implication is that he was “furious” because he didn’t want overtly racist RNC advertisements on the air in Tennessee.
In other words, GMC70, he “got” it–just like any halfway intellectually honest person “got it.”
So, GMC70, will you weigh in on the Fox “News” chryon reference to Michelle Obama as “Obama’s baby mama?” Or are you going to claim that the racist offensiveness of doing so is “in the eye of the beholder?”
Watch Out!
CF2K is on the racist hunt again. If you say the slightest thing wrong he will call you a racist!
CF2K,
It is people like you that cheapen what a Racist really is by declaring anyone to be one simply because you found something offensive.
Nathaniel,
On your victim trip again, I see. Your responses, Nathaniel, are never anything less than prescribed from elsewhere and predictable.
Given that I don’t have access to anybody else’s “heart of hearts,” all I can measure is the language that someone uses. And when someone uses racist language, or laughs when someone else does, or pooh-poohs the offensiveness of such language, or villifies those who note such uses of language, Nathaniel, that’s as good an indicator as anyone has to determine another’s underlying motivations.
If your “argument,” Nathaniel, is that I “cry wolf” with regard to calling out racist uses of language, the obvious, obvious, obvious reply is that if one gives coded racism a pass, this emboldens overt racists. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure–and if you don’t like the preventative medicine, tough.
Don’t want me calling your father out for his racist attitudes? It’s real simple: tell him not to use racist language.
CF2K,
If the only thing my father ever said was the comments you were talking about, you might have a point.
When his comments are weighed against everything else he has said here you can’t show that he is racist or the things he says are that.
You are taking things said and purposefully acting insult for no other reason than to be able to call him an Racist.
He explained his comment and like the unreasonable person you are you choose to continue on as if he were a racist.
Nathaniel,
Of late, your father referred to Jews as “cheap” and African-Americans as “monkeys.” As yet, I have only heard him defend the first remark, not the second.
In doing so, all he said was that “Jews are cheap” was not anti-Semitic, an assertion I easily refuted by citing historical references. He then continued to assert that his remark was not anti-Semitic, demonstrating that he does not understand what is and isn’t anti-semitic, and he was unable or unwilling to recognize and acknowledge such when it was shown to him. That isn’t my problem. It’s his.
I was right, he was wrong. He neither had the guts to admit it, or to take back his words. Too bad.
If his use of anti-Semitic jokes stands, so does my judgment. If he’s willing to stop defending himself, I’m willing to stop calling him out. Otherwise, no dice.

Fleet isn’t right about much,…”
Wrong again, gmc. Fleet is right about everything.
“Fleet is right about everything.”
You must be referring to a different Fleet, BDP.
“fleettwood” builds a tent in his pants and proclaims –
“Fleet is right about everything.”
Yeah.
Far right.
CF2K,
You didn’t prove anything.
For my fathers comments were nothing more than an innocent joke as he said.
There was no hate behind his comment. There was no actual prejudice behind his comment. There was no discrimination behind his comment.
It is not his problem at all. It is obviously your problem because you are the one crying about it.
As long as you are willing to play the victim card to simply smear someone you disagree with I will call you on it.
CF2K,
Did you know that my GreatGrandfather was a victim in the Holocaust?

He fell out of one of the guard towers in Germany.
*As told to me by my Jewish friend in Iraq who understands a stupid joke verses actual anti-semitism.
Well this is odd.
“Nathaniel” shares a tasteless joke I posted to this forum a couple of months ago.
The punchline was, “He fell out of a guard tower.”
Now, it’s entirely possible “Nathaniel” is being truthful when he says it was–
“…told to me by my Jewish friend in Iraq.”
… but I have my doubts.
“It is people like you that cheapen what a Racist really is”
Is it even possible to do that? To “cheapen” what a racist is?
And why would you capitalize racist?
You think it’s that important and honorable?
“To “cheapen” what a racist is?”
Some will use any explanation to excuse racism, as they do with homophobia, sexism and religious bigotry.
It ain’t working – everyone can see through it.
But they still try…………………………
“Mulatto messiah”
That’s what hank called Obama once.
How you read that as anything but racist? I don’t know.
And I’ll do a little on surface bigotry and judgment of my own. Having met them, hank and Nathan just…..seem like the types of guy that would be racist. Just an air about them.
Nathan,
Thanks for sharing. You’ve removed any doubt as to whether you are as clueless as you are steeped in racist stereotypes and smears.
An “innocent joke” regarding Jews doesn’t play on the centuries-old anti-Semitic slur of Jews as cheap and greedy.
An “innocent remark” regarding people who are African-American wouldn’t roll out the anti-black racist smear that characterizes African-Americans as “monkeys,” as anti-black racists have done for centuries.
The difference between those anti-Semitic and anti-black slurs used by your father and the lame joke you told, Nathaniel, is that your joke doesn’t negatively stereotype anyone. Duh. It is, however, rather offensive to Survivors. But seeing as how I’m not one, it’s not my place to call you out for that.
Keep arguing, Nathan. Seems to me you’re making a better case for your own acceptance of racism, racists, and racist attitudes than I ever could.
“… but I have my doubts.”
There is no self-respecting Jew in the world that would minimize the Holocaust by making a joke about guard towers in Nazi Death Camps.
The guards at the camps routinely shot the Jewish prisoners from the towers for sport.
No true Jew would make light of that.
Let’s try a few Fundamentalist Christian jokes – Nathan should be okay with that since he thinks Jew Jokes are funny………………………
Top Ten Signs You’re a Fundamentalist Christian
10# – You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of other gods claimed by other religions, but you are purple faced outraged if someone denies the existence of yours.
“WSClark” asserts –
“…no self-respecting Jew in the world would minimize the Holocaust by making a joke about guard towers in Nazi Death Camps.”
Two words: Sarah Silverman.
Two more words: Lenny Bruce.
It’s a joke, f’r cryin’ out loud. It’s meant to upset people. And the joke works.
Refer, though, back to “Nathaniel” claiming it was told to him in Iraq by a Jew.
I have no way of proving it and no inclination to seek out the truth of “Nathaniel’s” exposure to what is — admittedly — a tasteless joke.
But I suspect he’s lying about where he heard it.
It’s not like I’m particularly proud of it, but I told it first.
And “Nathaniel” didn’t respond to it for weeks, and then attributed it to some anonymous Jewish comrade.
9# – You feel insulted and dehumanized when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
With due respect (sincerely) Monkey Hawk………..
In May of 1988, a drunk driver in a pickup went the wrong way on Highway 71 in Kentucky, striking a church bus, killing 24 children and three adults. He survived.
No one, no self- respecting person would dare make a joke about this tragedy, but somehow a joke about the Holocaust is funny or acceptable?
Thousands of times more Jewish children died in the Holocaust than did all the Christian children in that accident, but we are to accept a joke about concentration camps because that “incident” happened fifty years before the bus accident?
Perhaps Lenny Bruce made a joke about the Holocaust – I can’t imagine why – but perhaps he did.
He was wrong.
It ain’t funny.
And Sarah Silverman doesn’t even deserve mention in the same sentence as Lenny Bruce.
End of sermon.
Oh, Is this where I am supposed to cry about the Christian jokes?
