A Lawrence Journal-World editorial wondered about the lack of geographical diversity among the Kansas Republican Party’s delegates to the convention in Minneapolis, Minn. The editorial noted that no Douglas County Republicans made the GOP delegate slate chosen last weekend to represent the 2nd or 3rd districts, while all nine delegates from the 4th Congressional District live in Sedgwick County. “Is it right that in the three-county 3rd District and the 10-plus county 4th District, all of the Republican national delegates come from a single county?†the editorial board asked.

The GOP may soon not represent Kansas at all soon, God willing.
Maybe the delegates chosen were chosen because they didn’t want any Morrisons or Lt. Governor wannabe turncoats. :)
The radical right and Operation Rescue wingnuts have done a pretty good job of pushing traditional moderate GOP’ers out of their own party and giving us a Democratic governor, AG, a couple of great Democratic members of Congress, etc. Let’s hope they continue to screw themselves. It’s good for Kansas.
In the LJW rush to judgement, they must not have had time to take a look at the Democratic Party Delegates.
All the Democratic delegates from the 4th District are from Sedgwick County. Only one is from Democrat stronghold Wyandotte County and a grand total of three are from the Western half of Kansas.
The reality is this, it’s a perk for party activists (the ones who want to take a week vacation) to go to the party conventions. Convention delegates are not like legislative delegations in that who they vote for is already decided.
The LJW editors, and Randy, are sadly uninformed if they believe the number of votes for McCain or Obama at their respective conventions will be any different because there is not a Republican delegate Lawrence or Democrat delegate from Dodge City.
The answer is no – one county cannot represent fairly an entire state. But republican leaders have already lost the ability to think clearly and vote responsibly.
They are doomed by their own actions.
