So Wichita abortion provider George Tiller attended a reception in April 2007 at the governor’s mansion and posed for pictures with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who has long supported abortion rights. So what? At least so far, the facts contradict anti-abortion activists’ description of the event as a “lavish secret party” honoring Tiller.
As we said in our editorial today, “Of more concern is that Sebelius was willing to auction off party time in the Kansas governor’s mansion to benefit not a charity but a political group such as the Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus, which supports pro-choice women candidates. Sebelius’ involvement with such causes is to be expected, but such use of the governor’s mansion isn’t.
“That does not mean, however, that Kansas needs a new law dictating how governors can use Cedar Crest.

When this was first posted, it had a picture of Sebelius with Tiller. Wonder why the editors changed it?
They were a cute couple.
” TOPEKA, Kan. - A reception involving abortion provider Dr. George Tiller at the governor’s residence may prompt a legislative response.
Two anti-abortion lawmakers say they’re concerned about how Cedar Crest is being used.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ office has confirmed that Tiller attended a reception there in April 2007. It said Tiller bought the right to have the reception at a political group’s fundraising auction.
Rep. Lance Kinzer, an Olathe Republican, said he may pursue a bill restricting the use of the residence for political purposes.
Sen. Tim Huelskamp, a Fowler Republican, said he would consider legislation if Sebelius won’t release a full list of who has attended receptions.”
Please go away. Both of you. Since when wasn;t the governors mansion, or the White House, or any other government owned building, used for political purposes. It makes me sick that you are Republicans.
Why is this even a news story? If every time the Eagle reported Operation Rescue telling a lie then Operation Rescue would be in the paper daily. It’s best to just stop giving the terrorist group the attention they want.
I think it’s a poor practice regardless of the political party in power.
But then, Jeff Gannon the Republican’s favorite homo pimp had plenty of access to the Bush White House. So, who’s to judge?
How ’bout them Celtics?
In case any one missed the gala event. Here’s a couple of webpages with some lovely photos.

What Maggotpunk is really saying:
It’s best to just stop giving the [Sebelius/Tiller relationship] the attention [Sebelius doesn't] want.
Please media, stop reporting what we the liberals don’t want reported. I thought you guys were on our side.
Was Doctor Death actually performing a late term abortion at our capital?
In other words, was he reaching in with the pliars, capturing the babies head, and squezzing the skull until it cracked? Did he then use a cocktail straw to suck the remains out?
If not, it was just another social event. No big deal.
With Bush coming into the state for a fund raiser for Nick Jordan will the Republicans be upset that state funds are being used to provide security for President 28% approval rating?
How many receptions are held at Cedar Crest per year? Where are the attendee lists and photos for all of them? If the women’s political caucus supported anti-abortion candidates would it be ‘news’? Yawn…..must be a slow news day.

Mostly it’s an indication that the anti-abortionist crowd has far too much and too unbalanced access in the local media.
But then, these are the same people who feel 115 US fighting men and women commiting suicide over being grist for the Iraq war mill is “Pro-Life.” Not to mention the rest of the loss of life from their “war president’s” propoganda blitz.
Fuzzy values.
It may be a stateowned mansion, but after all it’s her home for the time being too. She can invite who she wants and hold party fundraisers there. Considering Bush hosted the Sauds, the ones who are soaking us for oil, at the White House, I don’t see what’s wrong here.
I know some of you who never even met the guy hate Dr. Tiller’s guts (in a good christian manner I’m sure), but there are a lot of women who consider him a lifesaver and a hero who stands up in the face of christian terrorism.
tsk tsk, an inconvenient truth shown about the Gov, and so many lib progressives squawking with bushisms and general side show arm flapping.
Apply the rules evenly, no one will squawk.
Besides, didn’t the Bush-Roberts Supreme Court rule that prison/jails have to transport pregnant prisoners to clinics for abortions? That’s where the “conservatives’” pro-lfe vote got them in ‘04.
Oh wait, it also got skyrocketing costs of a college education, food, gas, utilities. And plummeting real wages, jobs, civil liberties.
Single issues voters don’t understand America and don’t act in this nation’s best interests. The past eight years have proven it.
Celtic,
You made my point.
What does Bush-Roberts, college education, food, gas, wages and etc. have to do with this thread?
Focus much?
“That does not mean, however, that Kansas needs a new law dictating how governors can use Cedar Crest.”
We really should be able to trust the Governor to use the official residence appropriately. No law should be needed.
It appears that it is standard operating proceedure to use ‘official residences’ for fund-raising purposes. Thus the reception would be legal.
However, in this case, with a person this controversial, it was DUMB!
Yeah, I focus much. I point out that you single issues voters have such a poor understanding of and love for America that you’ll drag us all into a hellhole for your one cause at the expense of everything else wonderful this country has had to offer, LIKE:
College education for the middle class and poor,
jobs,
a living wage,
fair wages for fair work,
not one person doing the work of three,
benefits,
affordable health care,
not a GIGANTIC chasm between the haves and have-nots,
gas that’s not too expensive to have to chose between driving to work and feeding your kids,
homes that actually have value after you’ve spent years and years paying for them.
Some of us focus on AMERICA. We love America, and respect America, and value the wonderful things this nation has had to offer. And we haven’t wanted to see it all ruined, which it has been by rabid, irrational pursuit of a single issue that no one can really control, anyway.
A thread yesterday noted that ’single issue’ attacks will tend to be less successful. HOWEVER - if the ‘target’ of the attack has allowed him/herself to be too much attached to the issue then such an attack will likely be more susceptable to such an attack.
Maybe sebelius just didn’t KNOW it was Tiller. Perhaps she just had “bad intelligence”:
“He doesn’t blame former CIA Director George Tenet for the misleading information he says he pored over for days before delivering his speech; he faults the intelligence system.
“George Tenet did not sit there for five days with me misleading me. He believed what he was giving to me was accurate. … The intelligence system did not work well,” he said.””
Thanks for the idea outlander!
Could be Ben. Sounds about like the kind of scientific reasoning that gives us the MMGW alarmists.
No outlander - don’t smear scientists wih your claims that they are at all like your Bush-rats.
As I commented before Ben, when one is motivated by hate, well, let’s just say it does not take anything like say, evidence, to convince leftists that a great principled American like Colin Powell is the devil!
And in all honesty Ben, your emotional illogic has opened my eyes to the fallacy that science and scientists are dispassionate forces interested in only the truth.
Good joke outlander - thanks for the laughs!
Wonder how the kid’s business is going from the gov’s basement?
Outie,
It all comes down to Powell being one of the con artists or one of the gullible. Neither trait makes for a good leader.
how many times have Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, and the like been to the White House? Will we pass a law forbidding the mingling of religion in government? Oh wait.
Operation Rescue skews everything they put out, don’t you all realize that yet?
Women’s groups support women’s voting issues? say it isn’t so!
Considering they they links to terrorists and even Randall terry is now suing them I cant see how anyone can take O.R. serious
You mean anyone besides the WE, who prints stuff written by the already convicted sullengers?

Ted Haggard the meth-snorting, closet homosexual who spent three years hiring a gay male prostitute was Bush’s “spiritual advsor.” But, I guess that right-wing, conservative poser was just making weekly phone calls to the White House. It’s not like he moved in. That was more Republican gaymo Jeff Gannon’s style.
Worst Judges of Character in American History = right-wing, knee-jerk, “conservative” “Christians”.

What? Operation Rescue has links to what kind of terrorism? Can you provide a source?
Cheryl Sullenger is a convicted and released for conspiracy to bomb an abortion clinic.
I see that CelticKin is sticking to the topic header (cough)
Goodness, Regular, that’s actually a really lame comeback.
Still, I give you points for not putting yourself in the position of “he who protests too much.” Because, that would mean you were simply lying about the facts of the double standard the current “conservative” administration has been able to perpetrate on America with the help of the religious right. How you all can continue to vote for people who’ve made such fools of you is beyond me.

Ah yes, blowing up the living is “Pro-Life.” Iraq must be the most “Pro-Life” place on the planet.
“Randall terry is now suing them”
I hadn’t heard abou that. What is the issue?
I thought I’d stay out of this one.
Since it’s you know, lame?
Maybe I shouldn’t have.
“When this was first posted, it had a picture of Sebelius with Tiller. Wonder why the editors changed it? ”
That’s funny outlander. I saw this thread before your first post.
I saw no picture of Tiller.
I’m not calling you a liar. Just saying.
I whole heartedly agree with the WE editorial “Tiller photos don’t prove relation”. It is a very well written and persuasive piece. If you and your staff are hosted at the governor’s mansion by the governor, how can anyone conclude that she agrees with you? If someone comes home and finds their spouse in bed with somebody else, only a person blinded by ideology will conclude that he or she is having an affair. A normal person would know that a) there are more important things to care about like the economy. And b) that your spouse is a philanthropist and does stuff for charity. Again a normal person would chide the spouse for using the bed in an inappropriate manner. So finding your spouse in bed with someone else hardly constitutes proof of an extremely close relationship and that is why the Eagle says “And posing with someone at such an event hardly constitutes proof of an extremely close relationship….God, it’s so simple. Those anti-abortionists have common sense that is why they come to some extreme conclusions.
Kansans should not believe what they hear from Operation Rescue but they should believe what the Governor’s office and the Wichita Eagle puts out. As in the last election, the Eagle said that Tiller was NOT funding Sebelius’s re-election and see they were right.

“Ted Haggard the meth-snorting, closet homosexual who spent three years hiring a gay male prostitute was Bush’s “spiritual advsor.” ”
I took him three years to hire a gay male prostitute? God, he must’ve been butt-ugly!
He is. Have you seen his picture? Ewwwww.
WTF was his WIFE thinking when she married him?
Must have been for the health insurance and pension benefits….
““Randall terry is now suing them”
I hadn’t heard abou that. What is the issue?”
Randall Terry is suing Troy for the rights of the title Operation Rescue. Troy stole it by falsely declaring himself the originator of the name. I have more details at my website:
http://www.maggotpunks.com/mp.html
Doug I want updates, but I don’t have myspace.
john_s, THANK YOU for your post above.
We are admonished to respect our leaders, and this being a good case in point shows how unrealistic that request can be.
Sebelius shows her character clearly by inviting the most infamous child killer into ‘OUR’, the taxpayers governors mansion to raise money for her clearly partisan ‘projects’.
I accessed the URL Mr. Punk kindly provided - although my computer doesn’t have audio. Therefore, I can only state the obvious…..
Mr. Pubichead (R.Terry) doesn’t acquit himself very well. All that ravin’ and wavin’ and dated hyperbole and predictable vainglory don’t stand him in very good stead. Conversely, Mr. Newman appears dignified - although I couldn’t hear a gosh-danged thing the man was saying. ‘Cause I don’t have ears in the back of me haid - not when the audio is effed up.
However, I heard on the Internet today that Mr. Newman has resigned from the Heartland Community Church here in Wichita. Evidently, Terry and/or some of his minions were going to accost Troy at his place of worship.
So what will Troy do now? Will he return to the Catholic Church, the faith of his youth?
I gotta be honest here: I can’t stand Randall Terry. He befouled our shores nearly 17 years ago; you’d have to fertilize the entire city several hundred times over to get rid of his stench. One look at that dude and I’m ready to sing the songs of Sapphic praise.
And, since Randy-Pandy Puddin’ Pie has been ostracized by nearly every Christian pro-life leader, what does he seek to gain with this lawsuit? He’ll never regain control of OR - his conduct has been a disgrace.
If I can stomach it, perhaps I’ll try to listen to the audio of that WIBW clip. Then again, I’ve probably got a masochistic streak. Or a death wish - my own death. Because that’s what Teeny Terry’s nasal voice does to me. That’s how much “pro-life” sentiment the dude elicits from Big Bertha.
That story about Newman resigning from Heartland Community Church isn’t very credible. Troy attends the church but it isn’t his, nor does he hold a position at the church (he might be a volunteer elder, that’s about it).
Methinks protests at churches is something Troy is familiar with. I mean, it’s not like he hasn’t done it to others.
KS governor’s fete honors abortionist
“The pro-life group Operation Rescue says it’s almost impossible to get any agency in Kansas to pursue criminal charges against infamous abortionist George Tiller because he has a very important ally — Governor Kathleen Sebelius.”

“Does the governor of Kansas have a hidden agenda by failing to prosecute abortionist George Tiller?”
I wasn’t aware the governor had that ability. But Operation Rescue says Dr. Tiller runs the mob in Wichita and conducts child sacrifices in his clinic so they aren’t exactly the best source of accurate information.
Doug,
“Randall Terry is suing Troy for the rights of the title Operation Rescue. Troy stole it by falsely declaring himself the originator of the name.”
As the copyright lawyers say, “Time and Tide wait for no man; they’re registered by Time-Warner and Proctor & Gamble.”
Wow! All this because of an auction to be at a Governer’s party. I wonder how many people knew about and bidded in the auction.
I am glad you see it my way Boxlock.
Like the Eagle, I think Gov. Sebelius will make a great VP. After selling out the people of Kansas to special interest groups it is clear she has the necessary experience and the will to sell the whole US to special interests groups. That is exactly what this country needs, another candidate who functions like a washington insider. I am sure this is in line with Obama’s goal of bringing change. She will bring a whole lot of Tiller’s change.
Btw, is the Eagle selling the trifecta T-shirt somewhere?
