Hillary Clinton was meeting with the editorial board of the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Argus Leader when she made the unfortunate reference to Robert F. Kennedy’s death having happened in June — and the media crowd went wild. But the editorial board endorsed her Friday. “Her mastery of complex policy detail is broad and deep, and her experience as a senator and former first lady matches that,†the board editorialized.

James Carville: Why Hillary Won’t Quit
Thursday, May 29, 2008 7:54 PM
By: Rick Pedraza Article Font Size
Political operative and author James Carville said Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America that Sen. Hillary Clinton won’t quit the race for the presidential nomination and will, most likely, take her fight all the way to the Democratic convention.
Carville, a Clinton backer who worked as lead strategist for former President Bill Clinton’s two successful campaigns, also blasted Sen. Barack Obama’s camp for trying to score political points for her remarks on the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
“Obama tried to pull a clever political trick, and it backfired on him,” Carville said. “I think the press made a fool of themselves.”
Although Carville said the Obama camp’s decision to jump on Clinton’s RFK gaffe “set things back,” he believes she “has the absolute superior moral case on Florida and Michigan. She has more votes than he does. She has a strong case” to take her fight to the end.
“It was a very big setback, I thought, when Sen. Obama had his campaign try to hype this idiotic story. I thought that set things back a long way,” he said. “I’m not a journalist; I’m a political operative. I don’t fall for that.”
He later added, “I’m certainly prepared to support Sen. Obama if he is the nominee, but the way they handled this [RFK assassination] thing was not helpful at all. Of course, we’re going to reconcile, but this was not a good thing.”
Carville noted that Clinton continues to stump in the final three Democratic primaries and argues that she would be a stronger candidate against McCain.
“Already we have seen emerging a pattern in the polls that she is the stronger general election candidate,” he said in reference to statistics that indicate Clinton has better poll numbers running against McCain than Obama in key states. “I think a lot of super delegates are going to say, ‘Wait a minute, you mean [she] got more votes than he did?’ Look at the polls. Her case, if she has more popular votes, is going to be stronger.”
Carville also conceded, however, that he believes Obama would also defeat McCain. But, “Any fair reading of the current polls would say Sen. Clinton would win by more,” he added.
The Clinton campaign suffered a setback Tuesday when lawyers for the Democrats’ Rules Committee released a 38-page report stating it cannot legally install all the Florida and Michigan delegations. The two states were penalized for violating the party’s rules by holding early primaries.
Clinton, hoping to bolster her delegate count by having the full delegations seated, won both states, although neither candidate campaigned there.
“[We] offered the Obama camp to split the cost of these primaries,” Carville explained. “He [Obama] refused. Then [we] said we’ll pick up the entire cost of the primaries to revote, since Obama refused to do that.”
The rules committee is scheduled to meet Saturday to resolve the fate of those two delegations.
Well bless her little heart…
One for the end of the road? Merry Clinton knocks back whiskey on campaign plane

The beginning of the end? That looks like one overly relaxed campaigner in that second photo.

There is what Carville says, and then there is reality.
The DNC fight to decide the fate of the Florida and Michigan delegates is televised right now.
With all due respect to well…MOST Obama supporters, it is my agreement that Senator Clinton IS the stronger candidate in the fall. Let us disaggree, if we do, respectfully. The blow up about RFK in June from a few innocent words was uncalled for.
Unless is was Obama who said it….then you’d be all over it like a crow on a june bug.
Ma’am I do not presume to speak for you or assume your speech before the fact. I’ll ask you to afford me the same.
There have been MANY “Obamaisms” that I have called silly or have stayed out of entirely.
This has all become ridiculous. The media has blown much out of proportion, including Hillary’s totally screwed up remark about RFK. As stated, it made no sense. If politicians would say what they mean, instead of trying to jazz it up or make it flowery, there wouldn’t be these verbal snafus. Trying a bit of plain speaking would do them well.
As for MI & FL, Hillary signed a pledge. Either she adheres to that or she doesn’t. The matter of integrity versus her personal desires and her pocketbook is up to her.
BlueJay,
Please note that I used “THEM” above, not “her”. It’s all of them. A lot of the silliness, as you called it, can be attributed to the extended length of the political season. Add the strain of a close race, and verbal gaffes are bound to increase. Good grief! These people are human.
MI & FL wanted to jump the gun for attention. The Dem party leaders told them no. They did it anyway. I think it’s rather generous that the party is even considering allowing those votes to count. But passing them all to Hillary, as she is hoping, is not right. Not when she signed that pledge.
Compare this to you being a father with a son. Open your mind and think.
Democrats don’t think. Just follow the “Savior” Like sheep.
Why shouldn’t the votes count in Florida and Michigan?
I mean, if I was democrat in either state, I’d be pissed if my vote for a candidate didn’t count.
In fact, I’d take it to the Supreme Court (snickers)
Im sure the Democrats are glad your not one of them — they would find you just as obnoxious, arrogant and rude as the local republicans do ….
and of course yours is the party that made a mockery of the election in 2000 —— should have never gone to the Supreme Court — states rights and all —–
….. it was youre party that didnt count all the voted then ……………
Ah LR2, but Mr. Gore would have won if he won his own home state of Tennessee.
guess what?
he didn’t…
(chortles)
Breaking news!
Obama has resigned his nut plagued church.
He has to be the most inept politician I have ever SEEN!
Getting out of that church a year ago would have made sense. NOW it just looks like he is running away from his troubles!
It’s pretty remarkable how the Cons obsess on the Democrats’ primary process and remain totally oblivious to how the Republic Party has saddled themselves with an old flip-flopper
BusinessBush-As-Usual candidate who’s likely to die within the next President’s term. It’s not like the Republic Party advocates have anything to vote for. They’re simply left with trying to conjure up excuses to justify their vote against.
It’s more than a bit ironic that one of the relatively-recent posters chose the nym of “ANTI.” “‘Cuz that’s all they’ve got.”
Some of you guys have met others and can put a face with a nym, but it’s hard for me to imagine anything than posters such as “HLP” and “Boxlock” and “outlander” and “ANTI” and “Regular et al” in any way but cranky old men shaking their canes and telling kids “Stop playing on my lawn!”
MonkeyHawk is left with nothing but to disparage other posters with grade school remarks.
It’s because the democrats have nothing left but btichin’. Ain’t no game left, just a lot of bickering and arm flailing.
I imagine MonkeyHawk as a failed Radio Talk show host, which he is.
“BlueJay” crows –
Obama has resigned his nut plagued church.
He has to be the most inept politician I have ever SEEN!
You haven’t been paying attention, “BlueJay.”
Senator Clinton’s RFK comment trumps this report. (Although the only thing I have to base this comment is your announcement.)
If, in fact, Barack has resigned his membership in his church, it’s about time. Not because of what the Reverend Jeremiah Wright might have preached in what has been estimated to be 424,839 minutes of sermons (at the 11 o’clock service) over the years; and not because of the 20-seconds or so that became a sound bite recently; but because the church (and Wright) have seemed to push the envelope of screwy theology now that they’ve inherited the national spotlight due to Obama’s candidacy.
If, in fact, Obama has chosen to disassociate himself not just from Wright’s radicalism, but from the congregation’s whipsong of radicalism, it’s evidence that his personal moral compass is moderations. It’s in character with his candidacy and just about anyone who accepts McCain’s flip-flop vis a vis Hagee and Parsley and Falwell and Robertson et all.. has to realize is an admirable quality.
I, for one, thought OJ Simpson couldn’t have been so stupid to kill his ex-wife until the evidence presented at the trial was overwhelming. But a lot of Simpson supporters couldn’t be convinced; sort of like the 24%ers who supported George WMD Bush in 2000 and twist their perceptions of reality to defend him even today.
Given the option to prove the impossible or admit you’ve made a mistake, most people go to work on the proof.
C’est la vie.
“Ma’am I do not presume to speak for you or assume your speech before the fact. I’ll ask you to afford me the same.”
Fancy words there huh, JR?
Haven’t you always made assumptions about me and others who disagree with you? Pot meet kettle…again.
