I can’t predict the future, but I like the chances for President Obama. And Sen. Slattery and Rep. Betts. There are some 30-odd incumbent Republican Congressmen and women around the country that think the odds are so bad, they are choosing retirement instead of a re-election campaign.
You better be careful, we have a democratic congress now who want to raise taxes for all social programs. Kathy is on board this train and far as I’m concern she can get on with Obama now and leave.
“forecasting a change in “the electoral map in this country for decades to come.”
ONE name ONE red state that is gonna flip over Obamarama.
Last I checked he is driving voters AWAY from him. Good thing he is not the settled nominee.
It’s too bad governor “leadership” isnt working as hard to turn over some mossback republican seats in the kansas legislature.
If she spent as much time IN state working on the chances of her own party to pick up seats in the legislature as she does on the national stage working on her personal interests…
…maybe neufeld wouldnt be in charge of the state anymore!
I wonder if Don Hineman will run unopposed again because tim peterson is busy tilting windmills and running against Ostmeyer?
I’m not sure she fits the mossyback snapping turtle image, but I hear it in the grapevine that so-called environmentalist Sen. Carolyn McGinn will have an opponent
I definitely think Sen. Les Donovan qualifies as a mossback though. He already has a filed opponent named Melissa Flower, who is a certified financial planner. There will be many more candidates filing over the next few weeks. Not sure about Neufeld, though.
Good for the Governor. Anytime Americans can be persuaded to register it’s a good thing for this country. The problem is Republicans know when people start registering in large numbers, Democrats will be elected.
A little advise to people voting. Don’t be turned away at the polls, like those nuns, find your birth certificates, get a valid ID and take advantage of early voting if you have it in your state. Remember, the Republican are going to do everything to keep the Democrats from voting, like caging and not putting enough voting machines at the polling places.
“some of the most exciting voter registration and turnout efforts I’ve ever seen in my lifetime”; of course means “registration of lots of gullible Democrat voters”.
Will Manly’s April 15 opinion letter to Barack Obama, Hays Daily News: Good!
“Dear Barack Obama:
I grew to like you over the last year.
I’ve always thought of you as dangerously naive at best. Eloquent, gifted, genuine, yes. But dangerously naive at best.
I couldn’t vote for you — but not because of your funny name or your lunatic pastor. I couldn’t vote for you because you say we should raise taxes (even on the rich, who I’m convinced already pay too much), and because you say we should abandon Iraq (which I’m convinced would be surrendering a war we must win), and because you don’t respect the Second Amendment (which I’m convinced should disqualify any politician from any office).
Still, I’ve liked your message of unity and your ability to inspire. And, since your rise I’ve hunted, quite frantically, for young conservative leaders with your talent. (To my relief, I found Bobby Jindal.)
And I’ve long said if you beat Hillary Clinton, you will have done your country a tremendous service. But anymore I’m having a harder and harder time rooting for you.
First came your wife’s comment about being proud of America for the first time — conveniently, right after you started winning primaries. Then came your own words about your grandmother, who is just a “typical white person” — a racist, or at least someone with racist tendencies. (I’m a “typical white person,” I suppose, and I’m no racist. In fact, little makes me angrier than when it’s insinuated I am.)
Sometimes people say things they don’t really mean. But this is a pattern.
Last week we heard your comments about small-town America. Someone at a San Francisco fundraiser asked you why it’s so hard for Democrats to win in rural areas. You said:
“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them … So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them … ”
Is that a minority? HEY CLETUS, GET THE GUN! (If only we had a job to go to, some time in the last 25 years … )
Here’s a thought: Maybe gun rights voters know gun control laws kill people and steal freedom.
Here’s a thought: Maybe some of us have moral objections to an immigration system that forces rule-followers to wait decades for legal status, and rewards border-violators with amnesty.
Here’s a thought: Maybe some Americans cling to their church because their pastor is a nice person, because they find love there, because there they have something they can believe in.
Here’s a thought: Maybe, just maybe, us simpletons in small towns find it harder to be bigoted than all o’ y’all cityfolk. Maybe, in small towns, where everybody knows your name — and how hard you work, if you pay your taxes, how well you treat your neighbors, how often you volunteer in the community, and whether or not you’re a good parent — people see the content of your character, so they don’t give a hoot about the color of your skin. (But I grew up in a small town where about a third of the population is of a different race than me. What do I know?)
And here’s my favorite thought of all: Maybe small-town folks are — really — capable of thinking. All on our own.
You’re wrong about why small-town Americans don’t vote for Democrats.
We don’t vote for Democrats because we’re self-reliant so we don’t like the government trying to “solve” everything for us. And because you tell your rich friends in San Francisco that we’re dumb. And because, each election, whichever one of you is running for president traipses all over the country telling us you have all the answers, that you’re the one on our side, that you respect our way of life. But each time, a little bit here and there slips out — and by the end of the campaign, we can tell what you think about us. And we manage to learn who you really are.
And we see you’re just a horse’s a$$”

. . .
Boxlock talks about the Iraq War that we need to win – does he think McCain is right to say our troops will be in Iraq for the next 100 years if that’s what it takes? Is a 100-yr old war, really winning the war? Somehow I doubt it.
If you don’t like Obama, then that is your choice but don’t be condescending to others. And what is wrong with the government helping to make the opportunities possible for ALL Americans to achieve their goals – not just the wealthy and politically connected ones that are living off their own form of corporate welfare and subsidies?
There are alot of professional people who get farm subsidies, do they not? And I’m sure these professionals don’t get their 3-piece suits dirty by that farm work. Also, there are medical professionals who don’t want to change the current healthcare insurance – these medical professionals do inflate their prices and submit claims to healthcare insurance. Ever heard about the $10.00 Tylenol on the hospital bill – or the $316 brace being submitted by a medical professional?
You doubted the validity of my posting the other day about the cost of the brace and even called me stupid for not going to Walgreens and buy the brace cheaper. News alert to you – I was in the doctor’s office having the ankle checked out and the doctor brings out this brace to send me home in – I had no choice!!!! How was I to even imagine that the doctor would submit a claim for $316 for that brace to my health insurance? I even complained to the health insurance company and they stated ‘that’s what the doctor submitted and that is what we go by’. So, sounds to me like the health insurance and medical professionals all like the current status quo.
People must be making money so why else would they not want to change it?
Personally, I am registered independent and I don’t much like any of the current candidates. McCain has flip-flopped and kissing up to everybody. Hillary thought she was going to walk in and take over and Obama is the one I don’t know that much about. But, they are all politicians and I’ll trust the one that has had the least amount of time to become as crooked as a dog’s hind legs.
As far as Obama talking about his white grandmother, maybe he was only speaking the truth – unlike others who feel the same way but don’t have the guts to bring it out in the open.
As for Obama’s pastor Wright – what about John Hagee’s comments about Catholics and gays? John McCain begged Haggee’s for his endorsement but no one is asking McCain about that. Or what about the many crazy comments Pat Robertson has said? Where was the outrage about that?
It’s only when the threat of someone new on the political scene that the old political warhorses kick their heels and want to stomp them dead.
I have to wonder why?
lucee,
Wow…you alright there. You really unloaded tonight. And that’s okay, I’m not flaming you now.
To tell you the truth, I’m not excited about any of the candidates running either. None of them inspire me, except again to be honest, both Hillary and Obama flat out scare me. One because of his lack of experience and far left, big government ideas and the other because she…well because she’s Shillary.
lucee, I don’t like the war, I hate it. I think it could bring down the U.S. like the cold war spending brought down the USSR. Plus it’s dividing this country terribly. I am also aware that this is not a friendly world and we will never ‘win’ or even survive making kissy-face with the militant Muslims. I think this country is so jaded, so fat and lazy, so complacent we have forgotten how to pull together and win.
I think what McCain meant was is that we will be in a struggle of ideologies for a long time, there is no defined place or time to battle. That it will be ongoing or we lose. That’s it.
The medical profession certainly over-charges in some areas, but they have to make it where they can too. The hospitals provide an enormous amount of discounted and free care because of legal mandate, and those of us that pay are paying their way too. That’s one reason I am so against illegal immigration. It costs all of us plenty for health care, education, penal costs, etc.
Oh hell, I’m just going on and on. So I’ll stop.
Hope you are having an okay evening you don’t sound to up.
Just so you know I’m not picking on just Obama here is a joke for you.
A man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around, he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island.
After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset.
One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle – a perfect night for romance.
As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it.
But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercely until the man took his arm from around the sheep.
After that, the three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together, but there was no more cuddling.
A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck.
The only survivor was Hillary Clinton.
That evening, the man brought Hillary to the evening beach ritual. It was another beautiful evening – red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm and gentle breeze – perfect for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the man started to get ‘those feelings’ again..
He fought the urges as long as he could but he finally gave in and leaned over to Hillary and told her he hadn’t had sex for months. Hillary batted her eyelashes and asked if there was anything she could do for him.
He said, ‘Would you mind taking the dog for a walk?’
