Betts hopes to rock the vote

bettsAn interview of Donald Betts can be found on the Web site thinkmtv.com. The Wichita Democratic state senator is running for Congress against Rep. Todd Tiahrt. It has a nice message about how young people can rise above hardships and make a difference. (Betts was homeless for a while when he was growing up.)

Without talking about his decade-long voting record, just this week Tiahrt voted against the new farm bill, which was supported by the Kansas Farm Bureau, and Sens. Roberts and Brownback. Tiahrt also voted against the new G.I. Bill - Tiahrt continues to do the bidding of the Bush Admin, and needs to be retired just like Bush/Cheney.

I hope Betts has a good chance of beating Tiahrt… We have had enough of his “style” of representation… We can do better!!

It’s time for Tihart to retire. He’s been their too long and will not leave. He loves the benefits of big government in spite of his anti big government rhetoric. He has also blindly supported 8 years of Bush mismanagement.

“Betts hopes to rock the vote”

I’m not sure anybody is even going to feel the ‘rock’, it will be so minor. Pretty much a waste of time and money for Betts. But, whatever….they need someone on the ticket and he’s seems like a good guy.
I don’t know anything about his voting record and probably few do outside his district, that makes it hard to give him a second look.
Inspite of what the partisans say Todd Tiahrt has done a fine job and will be reelected.

State Senator Betts is in my district. He’s a nice guy, but is a hand puppet for towing the party line. I’ve received only one news letter from him since he’s been in office, so I guess he doesn’t want anyone to know what he’s done or thinks about.

Reg - I guess that you would prefer to receive taxpayer-funded mailers from Tiahrt, which are cleverly disguised to convey information to voters, but are just subsidized campaign material?

    Regular,
Good morning! Hope you are having a nice weekend on the fine day.
Isn’t it a shame the jackals like Oedipus are so appallingly obnoxious. There is never any question they will be boringly offensive and dim witted.
But, I guess it takes all kinds to make a world, even the detestable like Oedipus.

Actually, I read all materials sent to me, regardless of party. I live in a State District representative by Democrats.

And yes, when Tiahrt sends me stuff I read it.

Go Donald! He’s gonna beat todd like a drum.

Donald Betts is what EVERY kansas legislator should aspire to be. Strong, smart and kind, he’s the leadership we need.

    And deserve.

What a refreshing change he will be.

Donald Betts is a nice guy. But that is where it stops. He does not have an original idea. He follows the party line at all times.

He has not shown leadership in either the House of Representatives or the Senate since he was elected. His constiuent services are from his secretary not him.

He got married and needed a job so the Wichita School district made one for him.

Again he is a nice guy but not strong enough to be a canidate.

It’ll be nice to have a representative actually from Kansas rather than some opportunist who came to Wichita for a job and will leave as soon as his term in Congress is over. Oh, I was referring to Tiahrt, not Dole since Dole is from Kansas.

I’m so sick of Todd….sounds like Betts would be a refreshing change. It really pissed me off when Todd voted against expanding health care for children to save his tobacco industry buds (who contribute money to him every year to look out for their interests)…THEN sent out those ridiculous flyers right afterward (at taxpayer’s expense, no less) claiming how MUCH he cares about children.

Please get your facts straight, OK?

Todd originally worked at Boeing before he entered public office.

So that makes him a Kansan.

Are you a Kansan? Were you born here?

  23. Posted May 17, 2008 at 11:11 pm | Permalink

    American,

Nope, but I’m not running for public office either.

“Todd originally worked at Boeing before he entered public office.
So that makes him a Kansan.”

That’s good, all those illegal immigrants Republicans are in fuss about have jobs here too. I suppose that makes them Kansans in your eyes.

It’s good for a politician to have ties to the place he represents and a dedication to improve the area. Tiahrt is a former Boeing employee who is more interested in serving his former employer rather than the people in his district. Betts has roots in this community, he has family here so he has a motivation to improve our lives and this town.

    Maggotpunk,

    Do you live in Kansas?

Being an illegal immigrant means one is not a citizen of the US and is here illegally, work or not.

That does not make them a Kansan!

  25. Posted May 17, 2008 at 11:27 pm | Permalink

No American, according to your definition all you have to do is work here and you are a Kansan. Are you concluding that your previous statement was wrong or do you just have no idea what you are talking about?

American…How am I mistaken? Did Todd NOT vote against the expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program? Does he NOT take money from the tobacco companies? Did he NOT send out that flyer that was in my mailbox that claimed he cared about children?

I forgot to add that the expansion of SCHIP was going to be financed by increasing the tax on cigarettes…Tiahart rountinely accepts money from the tobacco companies…so it’s no surprise why he voted against it.
