John McCain’s age could be an issue in the fall campaign. A new Washington Post-ABC News poll found that 39 percent of Americans are uncomfortable with the idea of a 72-year-old first-term president, while 16 and 12 percent, respectively, are uncomfortable with the idea of a female or African-American president.

Ronald Reagan said, “I refuse to exploit the youth and inexperience of my opponents.”
Heh
The cons are hoping for a more favorable veep.
They can always find the pony in the horseshi$.
A veep they approove of and the death in office of old John is their hope.
“Age a problem for McCain?”
Why no more so than black is a problem from Obama.
” 39 percent of Americans are uncomfortable with the idea of a 72-year-old first-term president, while 16 and 12 percent, respectively, are uncomfortable with the idea of a female or African-American president.”
AmWay: “Why no more so than black is a problem from Obama.”
I guess AmWay flunked Math (and English) in school.
I’m frankly more uncomfortable at the thought of a 47 year old first term Senator in the White House. Obama’s experence amounts to 7 years in the Illinois legislature (as part of the Daley machine) and 4 years in the Senate. That’s it, folks. While there is no job that truly prepares one for being President, it does help to actually HAVE some real experience. There’s no time for on the job training.
Hillary’s no better, of course. She’s a 2nd term carpetbagger, who’s executive experience amounts to picking out the china and dodging imaginary bullets while receiving flowers.
If “experience” is a campaign issue, McCain wins hands down.
“39 percent of Americans are uncomfortable with the idea of a 72-year-old first-term president”
just let that number of lost votes sink in……
GMC70,
It’s not so much the amount of experience, but the amount and quality learned through the experience. In that respect, McCain has learned zilch.
“…while 16 and 12 percent, respectively, are uncomfortable with the idea of a female or African-American president.””
I’m sure nobody lied or nothin’ about this question.
“guess AmWay flunked Math”
Why is it an issue of math? Blacks are a minority as are gays – should we discriminate against them because most don’t agree with their skin color or sexual orientation?
Same could have been said about Hillary, before she lost – being a woman.
Should we discriminate because of her sex?
I thought liberals were all about being the party of acceptance? Race, sex, age, religion, sexual preference? Did that go out the window?
Age brings wisdom. On the bright side, McCain knows he doesn’t have time to run for a second term. He knows this is his final shot. He knows he will not have the time or energy AFTER his term to earn 40 million dollors like Bill Clinton giving speeches and supporting China lobbys. He will want his legacy to be one respected by as many Americans as he can. He will serve to do what is right.
I don’t think being “old” should be considered a negative. There are positives to having a seasoned citizen and very experienced
legislature and proven leader in the white house.
That said, I will not be voting for him.
Look at the issues and the candidates stand on them.

MC CAIN’S TRUE AGE REVEALED AFTER A SLIP DURING SPEECH.
It was determine that Sen. John Mc Cain is actually older than stated, when he made the comment.
“Yeah those Hittites were the worst enemy I ever faced!”.
It all depends, my Grandmother was 96 when she died, up to 95 she would sound and aware of everything around her. The experience issue is relevant solely like a saying in Law Enforcement, “there are those with twenty years experience and those with one years experience twenty times”.
legislator.
I wouldn’t say age is his problem, as much as is senility. Looks like his mantra is “Four More Years”, of war to win in Iraq! Bush Ultra light for sure!

What happened to the democrats being the party of inclusiveness and diversity?
I find it interesting that the party which claims to support senior citizens is rejecting someone because they are a senior citizen.
I can just hear grandpa, “He is too old to serve!”
I think most grandpa’s would agree he’s too old to serve, allowing that they have enough mental capacity to see that’s the case. I’m only 56 but I’d be the first to admit my mental acuity isn’t what is used to be.
Granted, if the election was for “stud of the United States of America” at 72 he is not in the running.
Mc Cain does seem to at time really suffer from senility. But of course Hillary seems to have developed a nervous twitch. Could she be in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease?
It’s not ageism, it’s a rational approach to a guy in his 70s expecting to live another four productive years. Sure it’s possible. But it really puts McBush’s vice-presidential candidate in focus.
Some of the guys in the smoke-filled rooms in 1944 considered FDR’s failing health. But most voters were simply voting again for Roosevelt.
No one in 1864 even considered the prospects of an Andrew Johnson presidency.
The Republic Party fat cats thought they’d gotten rid of that nuisance Teddy Roosevelt once and for all when they made him McKinley’s vice-president. Oops.
McBush has good longevity genes on his Mother’s side; on his father’s, not so much.
Whomever McSame choses to be “a heartbeat away from the presidency” will have to be scrutinized.
My issue with McCain is not his age – it’s the ‘age’ of his ideas and his general cluelessness. For example, not knowing the difference between Sunni and Shiite.
John McCain’s mom is still alive and well. Obama’s mom has been dead for years. Age is not the issue here. It’s health and vitality. McCain has plenty of vitality for the job. I see this case as closed.
McCain’s POW time should also be taken into account. Didn’t someone earlier on another thread post the account of a fellow cell mate’s description of McCain’s physical condition at that time? That may have left a mark that hasn’t been seen. (Please note I said “may”.) As for mentally, I doubt any of us has a clue how that period of time may (again) have affected him. Some things are easy to see, others may not surface for decades or until under certain conditions or pressures.
I don’t think that’s a reason not to vote for him, necessarily, but should be kept in mind when considering a vote.
I’ve recently read some things about JFK’s physical condition, both from his childhood and during his years in service. We knew about his back problems, but did we know the truth about everything? And how much did those things affect his Presidency? I won’t even bother to go into Reagan’s health.
I agree VET. Like I said – not HIS age; his idea’s age.

————————–
Probably an important issue.
However, how many in this country really know the difference between a Methodist and a Presbyterian?
Or the difference between a Catholic and an Episcopalian?
Those differences are much smaller. If I wanted to find a similar fault line in Christianity it would probably be Catholic-Orthodox. Orthodox Christians were targeted along with Muslims and Jews during many of the crusades.
“However, how many in this country really know the difference between a Methodist and a Presbyterian?”
When was the last time the Methodists and the Presbyterians got into a shooting war?
every other federal employee has to retire at 65( execpt politicians and judges) so why give McCain pass on his age? As for experience not a one has any. What job has McCain ever done execpt be of the federal payroll? None of them have run a business, been a CEO, been an entrepreneur, or knows how the real world lives.
F*cking GW claims that he gave up golf when the war in Iraq started, “because he didn’t want some mom with a soldier in Iraq seeing the Commander-in-Chief on teevee playing golf.”
Not only is that a ridiculous out-of-touch comment, but it’s also a lie.
Way to support the Liar-in-Chief, CONs.
So, CapnAmerica. You say you finally caught Bush in a lie….. and it’s about golf?
That is the story he gave alright; for the most part. President Bush gave up golf sometime after the war began and vowed not to play until the war was over. He didn’t think that it presented a good image in war time.
Sounds admirable to me.
They’ve got Bush on tape playing golf repeatedly during the time he said he “gave it up.”
But who are you going to believe? Bush’s words or the video tape?
Outlander is going with Bush’s words.
Typical.
Sure “they” have, Capn! And if they don’t, I’m sure “they” will manufacture it.
It is such an important point as to the exact date some 5 years ago that he gave up golf! I’d spare no expense in getting to the bottom of this if I were “they”.
“It is such an important point as to the exact date”
The point is not the exact date, but that Bush said that he gave up golf on a specific date, when an UN envoy was killed in Iraq, and he was photographed several times after that date playing golf.
In other words, he lied.
But what else is new?
Damn right WS. I hope they “drive” that point home. They need the “balls” to take it to the house and not try to “iron” out the facts. To get their “slice” of fame for being able to “hook” the big “birdie”. But Bush is crafty. He could try to “spin” the story and “wedge” in a golf game when no one is looking.
Liberals and their priorities. Par for the course.
Whatever happened to your impeachment procedings of President Bush?
I thought you all said you “had him” regarding the firing of the ninety odd attorneys in the AG office?
Guess it turns out ole Bush did just the same as Bill Clinton when he fired the entire gang.
You got nothing. Bush will leave office without legal procedings and with honor.
Go ahead and get your puke bags libs. I’ll enjoy hearing the upheavals.

With Republicans effectively in control of the Senate the Democrats realize that while it would be justified it would be futile.
