Well, I’ve got to admit. Even the Songbird has to admit it.

The adorable and witty Adam Carolla isn’t much of a dancer. I don’t want him to be voted off this evening, but it’s probable he will be.

Even judge Len admitted what I’ve always attested: The Very First Man is lovable. (The Very First Woman, conversely, has a douche named after her.)

It’s an inveterate trait with me: When I adore someone, I don’t see his/her faults.

When I wrote several book reviews back in 2001 while laid up with a back injury, my efforts weren’t objective - they were gushing and adoring. Because the books were written about a precious little Scottish Fold feline - and they warm my heart to this day.

At least I warned my readers beforehand: If you’re looking for criticism and/or objectivity, you won’t find it here, I intoned. One of my reviews was chosen by Amazon.com as a “Spotlight Review”, so I guess my efforts weren’t too poorly written.

Mr. Carolla is just so darned CUTE - that moustache last night was great! I have to admit, though, I won’t miss Little Mormon Twinkletoes, whose propensity for bragging about her virginity is matched by her gracelessnses when she isn’t dancing. The Very First Dude deserves better.

“Did I brag about my purity when I actually WAS a virgin?” I asked myself last night. Probably not - since it was forcibly plundered - before I had a chance to think about lording it over other women like the anvil of the gods.

Now here’s a sick thought: Those reform school grads my ex keeps tied up in the basement to help him go pee-pee should send him to “Dancing’s” set. Let Little Miss Mormon deal with HIS skanky a$$. Then she’ll REALLY be traumatized.

I don’t think the Book of Mormon will help her much when the dude starts piddling himself when he’s supposed to be hoofin’ it up.

And that wheelchair and/or back brace isn’t very telegenic, neither……………………………………….

Editorial by Kathleen parker titled “McCain right about Iraq,” in this morning’s paper made me shake my head in amazement. She goes on and on about her online Iraqi journalist acquaintance changing from this position to that position, holding this opinion and then that opinion, changing with the circumstances. The times when America must leave Iraq are spoken of, followed by times when they shouldn’t. The whole piece is about knowing no clear way to end the bloodbath Then she sums up (after all the words of waffling!) that now finally the path ahead is clear. Stay and keep doing what has been done with no success.

This was definitely one of her more stupid editorials.

As tax day approaches, it would be interesting to calculate how many murders we each are responsible for in the name of the American gov’t who kills “for freedom and democracy” of course.

Let’s go with a very, very conservative 100,000 innocent civilian deaths caused by the American invasion of Iraq.

I want a picture of the child that my money killed, like those overseas “sponsor a child” adoption deals. I want letters from his family telling me what he or she wanted to do when they grew up, before the five hundred bomb slammed into their living room.

Sh!t, I paid for the murder. A letter and a photo isn’t too much to ask for all my taxes.

An Inconveniently Easy Headline: Gore’s Electric Bills Spark Debate

The group cited some damning kilowatt-consumption figures — 221,000 for the Gores in 2006, compared with the American average of 10,656, for instance — which, it said, were obtained from the Nashville Electric Service. It put the Gores’ average monthly electric bill at $1,359.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) — Al Gore, who was criticized for high electric bills at his Tennessee mansion, has completed a host of improvements to make the home more energy efficient, and a building-industry group has praised the house as one of the nation’s most environmentally friendly.

Al Gore recently won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global climate change.

The former vice president has installed solar panels, a rainwater-collection system and geothermal heating. He also replaced all incandescent lights with compact fluorescent or light-emitting diode bulbs — even on his Christmas tree.

“Short of tearing it down and staring anew, I don’t know how it could have been rated any higher,” said Kim Shinn of the U.S. Green Building Council, which gave the house its second-highest rating for sustainable design.

Gore’s improvements cut the home’s summer electrical consumption by 11 percent compared with a year ago, according to utility records reviewed by The Associated Press. Most Nashville homes used 20 percent to 30 percent more electricity during the same period because of a record heat wave.

Shinn said Gore’s renovations are impressive because his home, which is more than 80 years old, had to meet the same rigorous standards as new construction.

“One of the things that is tremendously powerful about what the Gores have done is demonstrate that you can take a home that was a dog, an absolute energy pig, and do things to correct that,” Shinn said.

WOOOOOOOOW !!! Give that man a Nobel !!!

Funny that the story capn provides fails to mention kilowatt usage. Wonder why that is. Oh wait, here it is…

The typical Nashville home uses about 1,300 kilowatt hours a month.
    Vs.
10,000 by Gore. Do the math…

Gore for using an average of 16,000 kilowatt hours a month
but Gore’s power consumption decreased by 6,890 kilowatt hours,

Many conservatives are familiar with a marvelous book by Peter Schweizer entitled “Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy.” In it, Schweizer detailed how America’s top liberals are famous for not practicing what they preach.

On Sunday’s “Hannity’s America,” the host demonstrated how the country’s leading global warming alarmist, Dr. Al Gore, is a perfect example of a liberal who doesn’t come close to following the lofty environmental ideals he demands of the rest of us (video available here).

At issue was the inherent absurdity of a self-righteous politician complaining about the dangers of greenhouse gases while he flies fly around the world in private airplanes:

If America has become weaker, as to the dollar value and our sacraficing our resources, why has there not been an attack on us while we are down? I dont want one, I was just curious. If Iraq, Saddam, and Al-Queda struck when we were strong, why have they not struck while we are weaker? What is the ultimate goal of achievement in Iraq that will strenghten us as America? Where does a stronger Iraq benefit us as America? Do we remember that the oil reserve or underground oil shelf is under Saudia Arabia, Iraq and Iran? The first Gulf War was done because Saddam stated “Saudi Arabia over pumped the underground shelf of the shared oil shelf. He felt this breeched the aggreement between the countries. With Irag at War Saudi Arabia is free to pump all they want. Example, your neighbor digs straight down and finds gold under their land. They have rights to the gold straight down within their yard space/property lines. If they tunnel over into the gold under your property lines you have the right to file suit on them. Well, oil is a liquid. If someone pumps out liquid from one end of a resevoir it then moves the rest of the liquid towards them. This is “claim jumping” or breech of contract. Example, a river is on more than one property. The guy upstream dams the river to hold back water. The guy downstream can file suit because they dont get the water they need for their property. Also, if the guy downstream opens up and widens the river into a big holding area causing the water to flow faster and more of it all at once the guy upstream can also file suit. This is contracted and monitoered all the time. This also is done state to state. I am not condoning Saddam Hussien. I am only stating facts. He felt Saudi Arabia pumped more oil per day than aggreed on. He recated. Was it properly acted upon? I dont feel so. Did he have the right to be upset? Yes, should he have done other things? Yes. Is Saudi benefiting from this breech of contract? Yes. Is Iran loosing oil reserves do to the overpumping by contract of a shared oil reserve of crude oil? Yes. Do we have the right to tell them to get over it and profit from stealing from them with Saudi? NO!!!! Please look at all angles, bring the Troops Home!!!!!! Herbert West III, west.herb@yahoo.com P.S. Again, I don not support Saddams actions at all!!! I do acknowledge his anger in the breech of contract.

If we were to calculate the amount of carbon emitted from Al Gore’s trip from Nashville to San Francisco, it would be 45,000 pounds of carbon. From Camarillo to San Fransico [sic], it would be 10,000 pounds of carbon, for a total of 55,000 pounds of carbon.

Notably the average car emits .916 lbs. of CO2/ gallon vs. Al Gore’s 21 lbs. of CO2/gallon in his jet. So for the amount of carbon and gasoline that Al Gore emitted, the average family could travel back and forth from Nashville to San Francisco in a Station Wagon 15 times. Again, they could do that 15 times just to equal Al Gores “damage to the Planet” in one day. Worst of all, Sean Hannity and Fox News found out that there were 112 commercial alternatives that Al Gore could have flown to reach that exact destination.

The message comes across loud and clear: The Gores are rich, and rich people are going to burn a lot of energy. They won’t let their belief in global warming crimp their lifestyle.

That’s why “Inconvenient Truth” producer Laurie David can boast on the movie Website that she is “committed to stopping global warming,” denounce people who drive SUVs — and still fly in private Gulfstream jets. (Having been blasted in the press for her high-flying ways, David told ABC last year that she was cutting back on her private-plane travel. Talk about commitment.)

US mortgage crisis may cost 945 bln dlrs worldwide: IMF

The International Monetary Fund said Tuesday the worldwide losses stemming from the US subprime mortgage crisis could hit 945 billion dollars as the impact spreads in the global economy.

The IMF, in a particularly stark biannual report, said that falling US housing prices and rising delinquencies on the residential mortgage market could lead to losses of 565 billion dollars.

Combined with other categories of loans originated and securities issued in the United States related to commercial real estate, the consumer credit market, and corporations “increases aggregate potential losses to about 945 billion dollars,” it said.

“The crisis is spreading beyond the US subprime market — namely to the prime residential and commercial real estate markets, consumer credit, and the low- to high grade corporate credit markets,” the IMF said in releasing its Global Financial Stability Report.

While the US remains the epicenter, “financial institutions in other countries have also been affected, reflecting the same overly benign global financial conditions and to varying degrees — weaknesses in risk management systems and prudential supervision.”

It authorizes the US to “conduct military operations in Iraq and to detain individuals when necessary for imperative reasons of security” without time limit. Iraqi critics point out that the agreement contains no limits on numbers of US forces, the weapons they are able to deploy, their legal status or powers over Iraqi citizens, going far beyond long-term US security agreements with other countries.

Doesn’t the land warm faster then the water?

Any long term trend would be confirmed by changes in deep ocean temperatures.

Land temperatures change more rapidly and have more variability, thus making long-term trends almost impossible to predict based on only land data.

Course, the air temperature changes the fastest, and thus the GW Alarmists use air temp data to validate their panic alarms.

How’s that global ice sheet doing, btw?

    http://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/breakthroughs/warming_ocean/welcome.html
“In 2000, the journal Science published “Warming of the World Ocean,” the first paper to report the results of the NODC ocean warming study. In the article, NODC scientists concluded that the world ocean had potentially absorbed 20 x 1022 joules, and warmed 0.06 degrees Fahrenheit. (They revised the energy absorption figure downward to 14.5 X 1022 in a 2005 paper entitled “Warming of the World Ocean, 1955-2003,” in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.). The temperature increase appears to be very small until we consider that the estimated energy input is equivalent to approximately 10 million thunderstorms, 100,000,000 Hiroshima-size atomic bombs, or burning approximately 1,000 trillion barrels of oil (more than are known to exist)!

Put in other terms, the sudden release of this energy from the ocean would warm the bottom 10 km (6.2 mi) of the atmosphere approximately 22 degrees Celsius (40 degrees Fahrenheit). “

    Nathan,
No. I am aware of it, but since the oceans levels have risen 1/2 inch, and it usually takes warm water to do that (warm water expands), the reason is still puzzling. Shows how much we don’t know.

As I’ve said along: I’m not sure man is causing warming, but a warming trend is happening. And instead of bickering over who or what, plans should be made to deal with it, if it does turn into a major climate nightmare. In other words, “Be Prepared.” To NOT do so, is courting another Katrina disaster on a major scale.

Sol, I just can’t agree with you on Gore’s house. My reasoning is
“The median income for a household in the city was $39,797, and the median income for a family was $49,317. Males had a median income of $33,844 versus $27,770 for females. The per capita income for the city was $23,069. About 10.0% of families and 13.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.1% of those under age 18 and 10.5% of those age 65 or over. 4.6% of the civilian labor force is unemployed.

Because of its relatively low cost of living and large job market, Nashville has become a popular city for immigrants”

It’s somewhat obvious that Gore doesn’t live in an ‘average home for nashville. I don’t imagine many of the 13% below poverty level do much late night entertaining, opting to nod early when the sun goes down to put in their 16 hours again, tomorrow.

Gotta admit, on the face of it, it is a bit damning. Beyond the face, it’s somewhat reasonable. I’m kinda curious what billy ray cyrus’ electric bill is…

Dubai crown prince buys camel for record 2.7 mln dlrs

The crown prince of the United Arab Emirates of Dubai has bought a female camel for a record 2.72 million dollars, an organiser at a camel beauty pageant said on Monday.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum “bought camels… worth 16.5 million dirhams (4.49 million dollars), including a female camel… for 10 million dirhams (2.72 million dollars),” Hamad bin Kardoum al-Amiri said.
Amiri, quoted by the official WAM news agency, made the remarks on the sidelines of the nine-day beauty pageant which opened on Wednesday in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi.
More than 10,000 camels — including females which are the fasting racing camels — from across the Gulf are competing for prize money totalling around 9.5 million dollars. One hundred cars are also up for grabs.
The contest is part of a camel festival in Abu Dhabi that aims to celebrate and preserve the region’s cultural heritage.
Oil-rich Abu Dhabi, one of seven emirates that make up the UAE federation, produced the world’s first test-tube purebred camel and has begun using remote-controlled robot riders in its camel races in place of child jockeys.

Except from Cliff Schecter’s new book The Real McCain:

“Perhaps the most remarkable story of McCain’s temper involved Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi. Two former reporters covering McCain, one who witnessed the following events and one who confirmed the facts provided by the first, relayed it to me as follows: In 2006, the Arizona Republican congressional delegation had a strategy meeting. McCain repeatedly addressed two new members, congressmen Trent Franks and Rick Renzi, as ‘boy.’ Finally, Renzi, a former college linebacker, rose from his chair and said to McCain, “You call me that one more time and I’ll kick your old ass.” McCain lunged at Renzi, punches were thrown, and the two had to be physically separated. After they went to their separate offices, McCain called Renzi and demanded an apology. Renzi refused. Apparently this posture made McCain admire him, as they became fast friends.”

“The man code-named “Angler” by the Secret Service will probably continue to receive the agency’s protection long after he leaves office next year.

The Secret Service is preparing to provide Vice President Cheney with agents, transportation, advance work and other security-related trappings of executive power for six months after the Bush administration packs up and moves out in January, the agency’s director, Mark Sullivan, told Congress last week. The expected cost: $4 million.

Although presidents and their spouses are entitled to Secret Service protection long after they depart the White House, federal law authorizes protective services for the vice president and his immediate family only during his time in office. Extending Cheney’s detail would require a directive from the president or a joint resolution of Congress.”

Sol, thanks for pointing out during Sexual Assault awareness month that the Military and Military Contractors need to be addressed before more sexual assaults happen. If our military is to be the finest, we should lead by example. If not, we’re no better than Saudi who kill women for being raped.

I’m very tired of those who turn a blind eye to this devistating life altering event of so many. Sadly, recent studies show that around 33% of people believe that women were partially to blame for their own assaults! Studies in England and Ireland are comparable. I don’t have numbers for the US, but I’d like to see a study done.

It’s a big deal when you consider that such a tiny percent of sexual assaults get reported, and an even smaller number get CONVICTED.

The planned Flight 93 Memorial near Shanksville, PA, designed by Architect Paul Murdoch, titled “Crescent of Embrace”, and supposedly commemorating deadly sneak attacks on America by Arab Muslim terrorists, one of which was thwarted by heroic Flight 93 passengers, is to include Islamic elements like a huge crescent pointing to Mecca and a tower designed like an Islamic sundial or minaret. The 44 memorial glass blocks will include one for each of the 4 Muslim terrorists that slit the throats of passengers, threatened to destroy the White House or Capitol building, and caused the deaths of all aboard when the flight ended in a 115-foot crater. This entire project is being called a memorial for Muslim terrorists. Completion is scheduled for 2011, on about the 10th anniversary of the treacherous Muslim attacks.

Impossible unless combustion only uses a tiny portion of the molecule. A gallon of gas weighs about 7 pounds I believe. Since the molecule’s weight is mostly carbon and some hydrogen, I doubt this a hell of a lot. I.E. the carbon would shed the hydrogen in the HYDROCARBON molecule and add two Oxygen molecules. The result would be more like 21 pounds of co2 per gallon of gas.

Well this is, of course, anecdotal.

My Mom knew a lady who ate in the same restaurant with McCain one time.

Apparently John McCain was extremely rude and mean to the restaurant help. My Mom’s friend said it changed her whole perspective on McCain.

    She thinks he’s nuts.

Parkay - even if there were some Islamic elements (not at all clear) just where is the “memorial glass blocks will include one for each of the 4 Muslim terrorists that slit the throats of passengers, threatened to destroy the White House or Capitol building, and caused the deaths of all aboard when the flight ended in a 115-foot crater.” I call BS on you.

A number of traditions, including Judaism, have lunar influences. And, even if there were some Islamic symbolism I would point out to you that many Muslims were also killed by those terrorists.

Just as your hero Phelps is not representative of all Christians neither is OBL representative of all Muslims. I don’t care how much you and your kind parrot that bigotry.

Shees, if you actually knew something you’d read the book instead of lifting a quotation from the book from Raw Story.

Anyway, here’s a thought I had. Could the excess heat of an engine combined with a catalyst be used to split the water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen to boost mileage?

    “J R” –

Not to cast dispersion on so good a source as your Mom’s friend who at at the same restaurant as McCain or anything…

But even if it were true, being “mean and rude to the restaurant help” doesn’t necessarily mean “he’s nuts” or even that his treatment of servers and bus boys makes McCain somehow ill-qualifed to be President of the United States.

He’s nuts for a lot better reasons.

“Could the excess heat of an engine combined with a catalyst be used to split the water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen to boost mileage?”

NO. However, water injection might be used to increase the power stroke because of the tremendous volume increase upon vaporization. I seem to recall water injection being used in some aircraft engines some time ago.

Probably very hard on the engine though.

    Any scuba divers out there?
We have a boat rented in the Bay Islands for late July that has four spaces available to anyone who loves to eat, sleep, and dive.
The Bay Islands are in Honduras and it’s the time of year that the whale sharks migrate through..the last time I went I got to snorkel with one.

    Ben,

Have you read about the 6-stroke engine? Uses steam power, instead of dumping waste heat into cooling system.

“Have you read about the 6-stroke engine?”

Sticking my nose in, Cosmos - interesting concept. As a self-proclaimed gearhead, lover of motors of all kinds, this is really interesting.

The bad thing about internal combustion engines is their relative inefficiency, as noted in the article. Even modest gains in efficiency would yield significant gains in reductions of oil usage and reductions in greenhouse gases.

We can only hope that this sort of technology hits the market instead of being buried by big oil money.

    Thanks for posting the link.

Very well. I’ve had a good night’s sleep (well, not that all good, considering my aching back and all) - and I’ve time to go to those URLs and reflect….and….

Sometimes in life one must concentrate on the favorable aspects of a situation. In this case, I am choosing to dedicate my emotions to the Flight 93 passengers - not the terrorists - who bravely became the stuff of legend nearly 7 years ago.

I shall never forget the first time I saw “United 93″ - on April 28, 2006 at the Warren 13th Avenue Theatre. By the closing scenes, when the courage and valor of those anguished passengers reached its apex - I was on my feet. Half weeping, half cheering, tears streaming down my face without my even realizing it, pumping my fists with both anger and jubilation, I knew I had witnessed something that occurs once in a lifetime.

That is what inspired my donation. And it wasn’t a large donation; I had even less of a pot to p— in than I have now. But those saga of those stalwart souls will live forever.
