Republicans once again blocked a key piece of Democratic legislation, the Fair Pay Act, despite the SCOTUS practically begging last year for the law they had to rule against be changed.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/opinion/23wed2.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin

Why would Republicans block such a measure? All the act does is make pay discrimination valid through any point of employment and not the initial 180 days when most employees hadn’t even begun to realize what was happening to them.

So Republicans once again stand up for business greed over what is right. If you ask me, the law doesn’t go far enough, as it is hard to find out when one is being discriminated against without first risking your job. Employers have made it so that even inquiring about what someone else earns can get you fired.

I think that it should be that the information according to gender, handicap, race..etc be available through request of the IRS.

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

Decide what it is that you need and accept or refuse that as the basis for employment. Don’t constantly be looking over your shoulder at what someone else is doing or receiving like a bunch of immature children. Doing the former so will undoubtedly get you more, and with more respect.

I receive a physics update weekly. This is this weeks. Quite interesting pertaining to CO2:

GREENHOUSE WARMING IS CLASSICAL. A new joint study by French and Russian scientists shows in detail how carbon dioxide molecules absorb and
sometimes scatter light energy not only singly but also during inter-molecular collisions. The absorption by single molecules is indeed governed by quantum laws, but absorption by molecules during collisions is, the new study shows, a process governed by classical laws of motion. The new look at this important greenhouse gas should
help scientists better model greenhouse warming.
Visible light coming from the sun pours down daily and is reflected back from earth as infrared (IR) radiation. Extra warming occurs when some of this IR is absorbed and retained in the atmosphere. CO2
is only a trace gas in the atmosphere, far outnumbered by O2 and N2 molecules, but its growing presence (partly owing to human activity)
and its ability to absorb and trap infrared radiation is thought to be instrumental in producing greenhouse effects. CO2 molecules one
at a time can absorb light. But molecules can also absorb light when they collide with other molecules. This collision-induced absorption, occurring at wavelengths different from those for single molecules and accounting for about 10% of overall IR absorption, is insufficiently understood.
Michael Chrysos and his colleagues at the University of Angers (France) and the University of Saint Petersburg (Russia) have now derived the first exact mathematical formulas that can be used to calculate how collisions between molecules modify the absorption spectra for those molecules (see figure at http://www.aip.org/png/2008/300.htm). And not just between colliding
CO2 molecules, but also collisions among
triatomic molecules such as CO2 and diatomic molecules such as O2 and N2, or between diatomic molecules. Ordinarily, O2 and N2 don*t
absorb the IR radiation, since they don*t have many of the vibrational motions of triatomic molecules, but they can absorb IR under certain collision circumstances. Thus the formulas allow
researchers to look at how greenhouse warming -the capture of radiation and the subsequent sharing around of heat energy- comes about. Chrysos (michel.chrysos@univ-angers.fr, 33-241-735435) says that the importance of collision-induced absorption depends on altitude. At 600 km, for example, air molecules collide at a rate of
one per minute, while at sea level the rate is 10^10 per second. On Venus, where CO2 is the dominant atmospheric gas (96%) and where
pressures are enormous, CO2-CO2 collisions provide the larger share of all greenhouse warming. In conclusion, the new study improves the
study of greenhouse warming in several ways: (1) It allows us to calculate exactly how much of the IR photon energy (intercepted by a CO2 molecule during a CO2-CO2 collision) is transferred directly to the neighboring gas molecule, where it is converted to kinetic
energy of translation; it*s about half of the IR photon energy. The other half of the IR photon energy goes to rotation of the two
molecules, which will then start spinning more quickly. (2) It shows how to introduce
higher-order effects, such as the simultaneous collision of three molecules. On Venus such collisions should add significantly to IR
absorption. (3) It provides evidence that inter-molecular interactions at close range separations (interactions acting when
the colliding molecules approach to within a few angstroms) have no effect on absorption, a conclusion in conflict with the mainstream

belief that short range interactions should play a substantial role in collision induced molecular absorption. Instead, the new study
argues that absorption owing to CO2-CO2 collisions is exclusively governed by long range interactions, which can be modeled and interpreted with the known laws of classical physics
alone. (Chrysos et al., Physical Review Letters, upcoming article; journalists can obtain copies at http://www.aip.org/physnews/select)

I don’t base my hourly rate on what another person at my work place receives. That is childish and socialistic. I know what the work I do is worth. That is the dollar amount I demand or I move on. I don’t need anyone to hold my hand and tell me what I am worth. I am smart enough to both figure that out on my own and negotiate the proper rate.

For someone to rely on the government to negotiate their salary is utterly pathetic. To support the government dictating rates is pathetic. Are you still a child that needs mummy and dada to step in for you or are you an adult that can make your own decisions?

    No.

The largest OPEC producer that supplies our oil is Venezuela. Bush has so pissed off Chavez I am surprised we get oil from them at all.

Bush has tried with the Middle East suppliers to no avail.

It is the stock market that has artificially inflated the price of gas. Though of a commercial on the way home yesterday (and saw that Regular was $3.699).

Starts with a guy in a shirt and tie. Day trader. Gets all excited and tells his buddy he made a killing on oil prospects. Still smiling as he is driving home. Pulls into a gas station and starts filling up. Over the pump he sees a woman leaning into her car from the passenger side. He can see an infant’s car seat. He sees the mother counting change from her ashtray. He looks the other way and sees an older man with a look of pain on his face as he fills up his pick-up. Then the old man slowly lowers his head fighting back tears. The day trader looks at his own pump and sees the amount due whizzing past 55-56-57-58,,,

Fades out then the voice over – “Please, trade responsibly.”

I agree Sol – but for a different reason. Open tarde and travel can be tools that weaken a ruler’s grip on a country. That is part of what led to the fall of the Iron Curtain as citizens of eastern European states saw for themselves the prosperity and freedom of Western Europe.

I still remember the amazement of some east Germans I met in Hamburgh when they could buy shoes that fit and came in left-right pairs. They were also amazed by the fact that we could come and go as we pleased and do anything we wanted.

Israel: Bush Secretly Endorsed Settlement Expansion

The Israeli government is claiming the Bush administration has secretly endorsed its longstanding policy of expanding West Bank settlements it ultimately intends to keep. This week, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said President Bush agreed to let Israel expand settlements, even though his so-called peace plan officially calls for a freeze. Ariel Sharon’s former chief of staff, Dov Weisglass, also said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice secretly reaffirmed White House approval of West Bank settlement expansion in the spring of 2005, right before Israel dismantled its settlements in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s so-called withdrawal from Gaza was widely seen as an attempt to solidify its hold over the West Bank. US officials are denying Weisglass’s account of a secret agreement. The news comes as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is in Washington today to meet Bush administration officials. Abbas has criticized the US for not blocking Israeli settlement activity despite the resumption of peace talks.

Another reason Obama is losing his support from moderate democrats:

    “Terrorist Fundraisers for Obama

    FrontPageMagazine.com | Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Two years ago, Hatem El-Hady was the chairman of the Toledo, Ohio-based Islamic charity, Kindhearts, which was closed by the US government in February 2006 for terrorist fundraising and all its assets frozen. Today, El-Hady has redirected his fundraising efforts for his newest cause – Barack Obama for President.

El-Hady has his own dedicated page on Barack Obama’s official website, chronicling his fundraising on behalf of the Democratic Party presidential candidate (his Obama profile established on February 19, 2008 – two years to the day after Kindhearts was raided by the feds). Not only that, but he has none other than Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama, listed as one of his friends (one of her 224 listed friends).”

    http://frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=6203178D-C782-42E2-8D56-765A3D7EDCD7

Many will say that this fundraiser is independent but he isn’t . He has his own dedicated page on Obama’s official website. I expect Obama to say he knew nothing about who this was but that just doesn’t hold water anymore. He just has too many questionable ‘friends’.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters that she was calling on President George W. Bush to work with Democrats to find a way to “temporarily suspend” oil deliveries to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.”

Right, as if that will make ANY appreciable difference we see at the pump. Current shipments come to about 70,000 barrels per day, while the United States uses about 21 million barrels of oil a day. That’s approx. .0033 or 0.33%. If those percentage carry to the pump that might make a difference of $0.012 in a gallon of gas.
And she’d endanger the strategic petroleum reserves, and potential security of the country, for 1.2 cents. That’s Jackass Dumb…again.

sol – the settlement issue clearly shows the lie of Bush’s so-called peace efforts. Bush claims to want a two-state solution but simultaneously endorses the carving up of the West bank and its annexation into Israel. Just where would this Palestinian state be? All stuffed into Gaza? Or, as advocated by “moderates” in Israel – isolated “homelands” scattered through the West bank and ruled by Israel?

Ariel Sharon stated that it was Israeli policy that Palestinians in the Territories are Israeli subjects. It still is Israeli policy and is endorsed by the Bush administration.

“A moment I’ve been dreading. George brought his ne’er-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida; the one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job.

    —————————

You’re total moron if you think you dictate what salary you make. No I believe that people should earn a decent living wage no matter what they do- depending upon their work and not on their race, gender, etc. It is proven beyond doubt that those factors are big in when they are hired and if you continue to disregard that then you will never address the root issues of everything else in America from crime and poverty to who can buy a house.

Name ONE JOB where you can dictate your salary. Please. What is it that you do Sol? If you’re a builder, you have to stay within a reasonble rate depending on what other builders are charging. If you’re a shop owner you have to consider what other shops are selling similarly- and even what they are making from internet sales.

You’ll get nowhere if you overprice yourself for a job that someone else will do cheaper and better.

I’m talking about at any place you work, the white males earn more than women generally, and black and hispanic women come in dead last for the exact same jobs. Of course what do you care if you’re a white man? Because it affects everything around you that’s why.

Anyone that pays one status more than another should have their pants sued off. And that information should be easier to get than finally after 15 years with the company you find out that as a woman you’re making some 20k a year less than everyone else despite good reviews.

Only a dickhead republican would try playing discrimination off as the fault of the employee.

“No one ever told me that what happened at that clinic would cause an emptiness and sadness that would consume me for years to come. No one advised me to seek counseling to deal with the trauma I had experienced. Actually, no one talked about that day for years.”
    . . .
“If you really don’t want to do this then we can have someone take you to another clinic across town. They will do it against your will if you want.”
    . . .
“I became severely depressed and erratic, full of hate and anger and was committed to a psychiatric hospital by my boyfriend’s mother. After my release I continued to self mutilate and attempted suicide multiple times. My relationship with my [dead] child’s father ended as he left me for another woman with two children.”
    . . .
“This abortion messed [my daughter] up so badly, emotionally, that she has had numerous mental breakdowns and has been in psychiatric treatments more than once and on medications. She has not been the same. She is really messed up emotionally.”
    . . .
“I had to sign some forms and a form that stated I read the information and was within the 24-hour waiting period. I had not read that information but my fiancé said he did and that was enough. We were told we needed to pay four thousand dollars and if I wanted to wait it would be an additional five hundred dollars every day and after 26 weeks it would be even more because he needed a second physician’s signature. . . . I returned to hold my baby girl, name her, and have her baptized. I went into a room and she was wrapped in a blanket and there was a pastor there. I sobbed and sobbed as I held my daughter. She appeared perfect and I felt like I had been tricked and in some sort of nightmare. The pastor sprinkled water and blessed her and he actually cried at my grief. That is the first person in that awful prison that showed humanity. Edna was very proud of her “cleanup” of my baby.”
    . . .
“We decided having 2 babies under 1 year old was not going to work for us with 4 children total, so after thinking about it we decided upon an abortion, though it was painful to think about. Well unfortunately I chose to use Dr. Tiller. We set up our appointment and this was a late term abortion by the time they got me in. (I’m thinking now this was on purpose. It’s as if he likes doing them later terms). I was, I believe, 26 weeks along . . . . They wouldn’t let me see the sonogram photo when I asked. . . . The power went out IN THE MIDDLE of my abortion. . . . I can remember him half delivering my baby, jabbing the scissors into his head and killing him, then just kind of throwing him to the side and finishing up.”
    . . .
    . . .
Pro-lifers have collected such testimonies of mothers who were recent victims of botched, coerced, and illegal abortions at George Tiller’s filthy, unsafe, criminal, late-term Wichita abortion mill. They include:
    – an abortion on a 14-year old girl who did not understand what was happening to her. Her traumatic abortion resulted in drug abuse and suicidal thoughts.
    – an unwanted abortion on a 17-year old whose abusive parents forced her to abort. The girl was drugged into submission and her pleas for help ignored by clinic staff.
    – a forced abortion on a 19-year old whose last word before succumbing to the anesthesia was, “Nooooo!”
    – a step-mom who coerced a young girl into an unwanted abortion contrary to the wishes of her rightful parent, resulting in a disturbing personality change in her daughter.
    – an abortion done on a woman in her 25th week of pregnancy whose medical records show that the abortion was not medically necessary, in violation of Kansas Law.
    – a botched abortion that resulted in years of gynecological problems
    . . .
The showdown between truth and abortion mill profits comes shortly in the Kansas Senate, as your state senator votes on the override of Bilious Sebelius’ veto of informed consent in Kansas abortion mills. Do you know whether your senator will vote to protect desperate young mothers from criminal exploitation, or to protect more “contributions” from abortionist quacks to baby-hating Democrats like Bilious Sebelius?

I call bs. I have been in industry 30 years. As both hourly and salary. I have worked mostly for large firms. THe hourly worker gets paid on a scale, at least around here. This job is a grade 5. You get x amount of raise every quarter until you get to the top of the pay grade. If you haven;t changed jobs, then you only get the yearly raise (which by the way you also get as you work your way to to the to of scale). Man.woman, black, red, green, or blue, it’s all the same. In the salaried area, for my job, makes no difference either. Nobody cares what race or sex you are. They care if you can do your job, and work in a team environment without pissing everyone off. I cannot state that is the case for every workplace, but it is here. Unfortunatelly, \
you described EVERY workplace as discriminatory. Once again showing the fallacy of lumping every one thing of anything with anoter of the same kind of thing.

and yet, not a one of those women have ever filed a complaint against Tiller. THe first one, she didn’t go seek any sort of help did she? No, she goes straight for OR to tell her story. Convenient. Don’t tell me these women didn’t know what they were getting into. And I know where that story stems from the girl who went on to have ‘psychological changes’ and that story didn’t come from the girl herself now did it. No, I know exactly who it came from, and psychological changes isn’t the half of it. It’s schizophrenia, something that would have been very likely triggered with the birth of the child, and then what? The woman could have done an Andrea Yates and be locked up for life.

By the way, Chas, I’m still waiting to be contacted.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), who didn’t even come to vote, said that instead of legislation allowing them to demand equal pay, women simply need “education and training.”1 Not only is his information wrong — women are currently paid less for the same work, even though they have the same education and training — he’s also sending a message to our nation, to our sons and daughters, that this pay gap is okay, and it’s women’s fault for being paid less. Not so!

“The time line is in the hands of the Chief of Chaplains. Nuff said!!”

The facts are the Navy Chaplain corps are not in the chain of command for reporting on sailors or Marines.

There is no misconduct represented herein by Nathan which is the only basis for any investigation under Article 31, UCMJ. Of course, anyone with any military service knows – the Navy chaplains have zero investigative powers. The NIS, who does provide investigative functions for the Dept of the Navy, would laugh Chas right out of the office – rather than even think about even calling a respected Marine Corps Staff Noncommissioned Officer. They might however, give Nathan an award.
(personally, on a scale of 1 to 10, I only give him a 4 at pot stirring Chas.)

Further, the Navy Chaplains are bound by the same standards are any private pastor. The confidences of the member are held privately without disclosure.
Anything Nathan might say to a chaplain are strictly confidential. All are bound to report violations of the UCMJ. But again, there are no crimes committed herein.

Chas/Squarepeg/:: might as well call the local police department to have someone laugh at him.

Better yet, perhaps the FBI, CIA, or NSA. See how effect that would be.

McCain is correct. He is representing his party correctly. Republicans do not favor more government intervention in peoples lives.

Suckling at the government tit, interferring in private business, and generally directing the lives of the individual private citizens – is a strictly democratic response.

So Pmama whines and cries about republicans holding their standards?

Sniff, sniff, so it’s the “mans” fault Pmama is on a dead end street and not going anywhere.

Pmom the last two places I worked the job description came with a pay grade. That determined what you were paid. From that point on there was a pay scale with an upper and lower level. Depending on how well you did on your job you were given annual reviews and merit raises as appropriate for your pay grade. Every worker didn’t make the same for the same job but you were paid within that pay grade. It all depended on you.

I thought this was very fair.

You’re total moron if you think you dictate what salary you make.

Really? I thought I was in complete control of my faculties the last time I negotiated my contract. It seems the contract I signed stated every demand I made. It would seem that a signed contract with every demand I made in print makes me a moron. Well you know what? Pulling over 120K (before taxes) and being a moron is pretty nice !!!

No I believe that people should earn a decent living wage no matter what they do- depending upon their work and not on their race, gender, etc.

Then that makes you the moron P_Mom, because if you have no marketable skill, then you are about the level of a high school drop out. How socialist of you to think that without any effort on the employee’s side, said employee should be carried by the employer. Because P_Mom said so.

Name ONE JOB where you can dictate your salary. Please. What is it that you do Sol?

I am an IT consultant with an absolutely scorching skill set. I trained myself in the hottest languages/environments. With that skill set, you bet your granny panties I name my price. Nice to be me, sucks to be you.

You’ll get nowhere if you overprice yourself for a job that someone else will do cheaper and better.

With my skill set and years of experience, I name my price. If the contract holder can not afford me, I move to the next. I’ve been in the same contract for about three years.

I’m talking about at any place you work, the white males earn more than women generally

False statement. I have worked with many females that made more than I did. Didn’t whine or bitch though. They negotiated better than I did. Bully for them. That is the conservative/libertarian mind set. Don’t whine and bitch because someone else has it better than you. Position yourself so that you can achieve the same or better. Seeing the pattern? Conservatives fight for themselves. They don’t rely on the government to level the field. Again, sucks to be you. Liberals rely on the government to cover their shortcomings. You make less, you have a weaker skill set, yet you want the same as someone who is better suited for the job. If you had the same or better skill set and you accepted less than another person then you screwed up. To blame someone else is a weak, help me nanny state, statement.

Anyone that pays one status more than another should have their pants sued off.

Point proven. Because I can’t negotiate better than the ‘other guy’ the employer should be punished. Can you even wipe your own butt w/o gov’t supervision?

Only a dickhead republican would try playing discrimination off as the fault of the employee.

Only pabulum fed, brainless/brainwashed, sheep liberal would blame her problems on the employer instead of her woefully lacking negotiating skills and/or knowing what she and her skill set is worth. If you can’t figure that out, then you deserve what you get. If you need the government to tell you what you are worth, let me cut though the chain, you’re not worth shit.

  143. Posted April 24, 2008 at 10:30 pm | Permalink

You have proven a desperate lack of honesty and integrity. I have permalinked to your lie and will at will throw it in your face at my leisure.

You have proven, through the above, that you are far form a man of God. A man of God would not let selfish pride come before honesty and values. I hope that your employers come by this thread and see you for the prideful dishonest person that you are. I use person in the loosest term and assure you that you are not even worth the term ‘man’.

You don’t choose your salary any at all, you compete for what they’re willing to pay.

it’s too bad that my job isn’t worth more than it is. Because my job is more important than yours, it takes more talent for detail for compassion and patience. Of course, I could go in and tell some poor old guy that in order to take care of him, he’ll have to sign his house over to me. But that’d be wrong now wouldn’t it.

I guess if he wanted to stay home bad enough before he died, he could probably pay it, however, he could also go onto the next person who would take less, and I’d still be out a job. They might not do as good of a job as me, but he might be willing to make concessions.

I love my trade, I’m damn good at it. I’m one of the best of what I do. I know that because I’m told that I’m the most requested person at the agency. It does get me perks, like the choice of where I want to work. It does not however let me ask for more money.

I chose a field which I love and I am very well compensated for that. If that makes me an elitist, so be it.

Uh-hum. Chas, though you’re too dense or too stubborn to ever recognize it or admit it, he has. We all have, over and over again.

Facts are facts. I don’t care how old you are, or how many degrees you have (bet I got you on that one, BTW) or how matter letters you have after your name. If you can’t tell the simple truth, if your word has no value, it means nothing.

    And it’s apparant you can’t.

Do you even realize what a joke you’ve become? Man up, Chas (would you like your other incarnations to man up for you?). It really doesn’t hurt to admit you made a mistake. An error. It proves only that you’re human. Until then, I guess we’ll just continue to kick you as you twist in the wind.

Facts are facts, dude. You can deny till you’re blue in the face (or the fingers). But we can all read just fine, and we all know better.

Now that I’ve said that, let me save you some trouble:

    P_Mom

This is nothing against you personally, less the fact that you blame sexism/racism/political party lines for your woes. Like I said, the stain I so unfortunately married works only 12 hours per week doing what I assume you do. She is a BS-RN, but so probably are you. She is an absolute stain on the face of humanity. You, even as I know almost nothing about you, will always be 1000 times the care giver she will ever aspire to be.

She chooses to live off of a percentage of my and some other fool’s earnings. So it would seem to me, either she negotiated better than you, or the earnings she siphons from me and the other fool far outweigh your earnings.

The stain isn’t exactly a brain trust, so maybe you should consider a relocation. From my understanding, Florida is RIPE with opportunities for nursing staff. Great place to live too, just ask my Dad.

    Junior,

Don’t know what your beef is, but I understand that you too are divorced. So does that make you a failed father as well?

I have a son and have assumed the fatherly role of Chelle’s son. I have far and away exceeded Chele’s son’s father’s role. I am far and away the role model he has patterned after. And for that and for what he has become, I am eternally grateful.

Now, Snopes says it is hype!! GREAT!! Then we know its HYPE!! Hey, it’s STILL funny!! Especially when you read in Snopes what ACTUALLY happened!!!

Hud, you are daily proof that stupid cannot be repaired!!! Go back to your troll bridge now, and wait for dark to come… LOL

Sol I wish I was a nurse, I did go all the way through school for it, but I am not. I’m merely an aide in that job.

Your ex wife may have been my nursing instructor, which would explain a lot. There are some truly evil nurses out there. God if I had only known that before.

I don’t feel discriminated against in this job, merely undervalued in it. But I did find out that after working 7 years in a job that I had before, that the men in my job (female dominated) were making over 2 bucks per hour more than I was. One man who was worthless, I ran circles around him, and was hired years after I was. I was furious about it but that was before I knew anything about the feminist movement or my rights. I should have sued their pants off.

The excuse I was given by a higher up but not the real boss….men wouldn’t come work there if they paid the same as the women, and then I was advised that it’d be a good idea not to talk about it as I could be fired for discussing salary.

Just to set the record straight – a full time job around this place, unfortunately. I showed those photos to James at the request of Chas.

James’s characterization of Chas’s attire is inaccurate – to put it in the kindest terms.
