GOP presidential nominee John McCain strikes many voters as a centrist, according to polls. But as assessed by the Associated Press, McCain’s record should comfort conservative Republicans — and concern those Democrats who are telling pollsters that they’ll vote for McCain if their candidate doesn’t prevail in the nomination fight. McCain’s voting record is strong, though not spotless, against abortion, gay marriage and gun control. His problem areas with conservatives remain stem-cell research, campaign finance limits and immigration. By the way, notes AP: McCain is polling at the same level of support among Republicans as George W. Bush did at this point in 2000.

HE is the real Manchurian Candidate this election. “Straight Talk” tries to be all things to all people. All the more telling, then, that the true Wingnut believers are the ones who detest him the most for how he pimps them out. But they’ll fall in line and vote for him anyway: Republicans do what they’re told. Every time.
McCain’s makeover, in all likelihood, will go utterly unchallenged by media mandarins (are you listening, Russert and Stephanopolus?). Our kid gloves media’s treatment of John Sidney McCain merits a rechristening: “Straight Talk” becomes “Free Ride,” at least in terms of how our “media” treats him.
He’s another phoney, like bush.
I wonder if his stem cell openness is realted to his age? Or is it his failure of a pro-life/evangelical litmus test?
Would be interesting to know.
Rhonda: Would you please try to be a little more precise?
Stem cell research is not a problem with any conservatives I know. EMBRYONIC stem cell research is. Fortunately other sources of stem cells have been found that are more effective and not as morally questionable as EMBRYONIC stem cells. Thus, this is not the issue it once was.
But they’ll fall in line and vote for him anyway: Republicans do what they’re told. Every time.
———
In my mind, there are no viable options.
You’ll vote Obama or Clinton, CF2K. Did your masters tell you how to vote?
Once again, unable to understand why everyone doesn’t see the world as he, genius ‘bot CF2K denigrates rather than debates.
I can’t believe that even close to half the nation would consider voting for this guy, especially after we’ve seen the disaster of the Bush administration. Do Conservatives truly hate themselves so? Mark my words, there is nothing in conservative policies that will fix what is happening and it will only get worse.
If Europe is considering meddling in our financial affairs, who is to stop them from starting to meddle in our foreign war affairs?
And not FOR us either. Yet, conservatives act as if liberal policies are the bane of all that is good in the world, yet those other ‘liberal’ countries are the ones who are talking about bailing us out of our crisis. Hmm.
Stupidity outlander, voting for the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
I suppose you’ll defend our crashing economy as good for America too huh?
there is nothing in conservative policies that will fix what is happening and it will only get worse.
Not true, not true. Check out Bob Barr if you want to see a conservative candidate. McCain, yeah, not so much.
who is to stop them from starting to meddle in our foreign war affairs?
Because they aren’t as stupid as the current administration?
talking about bailing us out of our crisis.
If financial policy is at the forefront of your mind, then you surely will not vote Democrat. Rasing taxes and increasing the budget will serve to hurt the country only less than the current administration and McCain’s policy of cutting taxes and increasing spending.
If you want to help the country financially, you have to cut taxes and cut spending.
Barr will do this as well as support our troops by pulling them out of Iraq.
outlander,
As usual, the point I was making appears to be beyond your ability to grasp. I never said I wouldn’t vote for either Clinton or Obama.
By contrast, prominent conservatives, however, like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and the like, have publicly declared their undying enmity for McCain–and are now supporting him anyway. James Dobson, for the time being, is not, but he’ll probably fold and do so anyway.
That suggests that their “opposition” was all an elaborate attempt to get McCain to bow and scrape before them in an effort to curry their support–which he did. So, then, to return to my point, they hated him four months ago and were never going to vote for him–but now they are.
There’s nothing to debate here, outlander. That’s how they acted, and it speaks volumes about the mentality of Republicans: they have no principles, other than winning.
Bush Sr raised taxes, he knew that it had to be done. And the economy flourished well into Clinton’s years.
The trick is not to overtax. That’s when you run into trouble.
I read an article recently that asked if Bob Barr would be the Republican’s Nader (read spoiler)?
Linda,
I hope he is. While I want Clinton or Obama in office about as much as I want McCain, the GOP needs to wake up and start being conservative again. If enough folks write in Dr. Paul, vote for Barr, or if Dr. Paul can manipulate the delegate system enough… The GOP needs to read a little history on what it means to be conservative. Maybe a handy defeat will show them that.
Sol,
Interesting. Are you intimating that there may be a floor fight at the Republican convention?
“Fortunately other sources of stem cells have been found that are more effective and not as morally questionable as EMBRYONIC stem cells.” — outlander
If you believe propaganda instead of science.
As usual, the point I was making appears to be beyond your ability to grasp
————
Oh, I doubt it.
Your point CF, and not a good one BTW, was that Republicans who once opposed McCain will still vote for him because they do what they are told. My reply was that there is no viable alternative. Pretty simple stuff.
Now you write complaining about conservative talking heads who opposed McCain and who are now supporting him. You really can’t understand that either?
Did you really expect that they would support Obama or Clinton?
On this board propaganda is science to too many.
All forms of stem cell research should continue and be funded to ensure treatments and cures for humanity. Throwing away blastocysts doesn’t seem to be destroying them to those who are able to ignore reality.
There is a very slim possibility that if Dr. Paul gets enough delegates sent to the convention, they abstain from the first two rounds of voting and> McCain does not get enough votes in the first or second round…
Lots of if’s and and’s, but I pray that the Republican Party will come to their senses and realize what McCain in office will do to this country.
Messed up my ‘i’ tag…
kewl, Sol!
Maybe both conventions will be worth watching.
I’d like to see politicians of all persuasions woken up to reality. While I’m dreaming, I would like to see all of the people they affect wake up and participate. Participate by holding their feet to the fire and making them accountable.
To me who doesn’t knew what an “i” tag is or how to attempt those italics, you have to tell me you messed up for me to know it. Like planning a big event – the only one who knows something didn’t go “as planned” is the one who did the planning.
“There is a very slim possibility that if Dr. Paul gets enough delegates sent to the convention, they abstain from the first two rounds of voting and> McCain does not get enough votes in the first or second round…”

Sol; Slim left town some time ago.
Test
Rhonda posts wishfully that “democrats will vote for McCain if their particular candidate doesn’t get the nomination.”
No real Democratic voter would do that, Rhonda.
McSame is exactly the snot-puke candidate that one would expect from the post-Reagan Republican machine.
Old, white, rich, and ideologically pure.
His only virtue seems to be that he’s not as stupid as Bush, but then Bush set the bar so low that just about any sentient being could best him there.
Pmom
Europe?
Actually, Italy and France just elected PRO-USA governments into office!

—-
Bill Clinton ran (and WON!) against Bush Sr. by saying we had “The worst economy in 50 years” remember? That was a lie. At the time that Clinton beat Bush Sr., we were in a very mild recession. However, many of us believe that recession was CAUSED by a tax increasse!
(And, a Democrat tax increase will cause another recession.)
” there is nothing in conservative policies that will fix what is happening and it will only get worse.”
Well then it really doesn’t matter to Political Mamma regardless of the individual the republican party puts on the ballot.
“McSame is exactly the snot-puke candidate that one would expect from the post-Reagan Republican machine.”
———-
That snot-puke CapnAmerica is an intellectual force.
“Old, white, rich, and ideologically pure.”
I agree with the old part.
His skin color shouldn’t matter.
Most in congress are rich, including Clinton.
Idealogically pure is not true of Mclame.
Participate by holding their feet to the fire and making them accountable.
I’d love to see the remaining 2 candidates from both parties debate one more time. But have them debate on the issues, not the latest media blip.
Hillary and Obama might be a sleeper as they both seem to have the same goals. Correct me if I am wrong, I have not researched their platforms carefully.
McCain vs. Paul? Damn, you want to see a land slide? McCain is totally clueless ref. the economy. Dr. Paul would wipe the floor with him. Foreign policy? Even though Dr. Paul is a non-interventionist, I am quite sure he understands the difference between Shia and Sunni populations. Big government? Another big loser for McCain.
Put McCain and Paul on stage. Give them equal and lengthy time to reveal their true platform. Give America the chance to see a Liberal and a true Conservative debate policy.
“The trick is not to overtax. That’s when you run into trouble.”
Interesting choice of words, “trick”, by PM. As if everything were as simple as a magic trick. “Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.”
But to continue in the same vein of thought:
The trick is to STOP SPENDING MORE MONEY THAT REVENUE..
“SolDevVB” fantacizes –
“McCain vs. Another big loser for McCain.”
Help me out here. Did Paul win any delegates to the Republic National Convention? How is he one of the “…2 remaining candidates?”
As I understand Republic Party rules, all of Kansas’ delegates to Minneapolis are committed to Huckabee. Talk about being totally irrelevant to even Republic Party politics! All those Huckabites in the middle of McBush’s clear majority of delegates.
Listen to AmScray–
“His skin color shouldn’t matter.”
That’s why the last 43 Presidents (that’s all of them) have all been white.
The CONs use covert racism to hold power, and when a lib mentions race, they accuse him of racism.
Brilliant.
You didn’t just mention color. You put a tag on it.
Don’t try to turn it around Capn. You are guilty as revealed.
The trick is to STOP SPENDING MORE MONEY THAN REVENUE…
Good point, AmWay.
So riddle me this, why does your guy stay in Iraq spending 2 billion a week that we don’t have?
Why did your guy, along with your party’s Congress, nearly double the national debt in 7 years?
“McCain is polling at the same level of support among Republicans as George W. Bush did at this point in 2000.”
That’s great news for our side.
It means McCain will lose in the general election just like Bush did in 2000.
I can’t find a nickels worth of difference in the policies of Senators Clinton and Obama.
I also can’t find a nickels worth of difference in bushco and what McCain will make himself. He is quite the chameleon so if there is a difference and that is a problem he will just make himself over to be what is wanted / needed.
Both bush and McCain are the new and definitely not improved conservative. The party of make big business and big government BIGGER, make sure the ones who can afford “it” are the ones taken care of, one world order, I will be king only if the position of god isn’t avail, fiscal irresponsibility.
It does seem the party will need to be completely destroyed before anyone remembers what made the Grand Ole Party grand.
There won’t be a debate on the issues. News media isn’t interested and sadly neither are Americans.
Capn, you know McClame is NOT ‘my guy’.
Likewise, you also have seen my posts on the
republican party is not ‘my party”.
My post on spending was not in response to a political party nor one of the candidates.
My post was in response to a poster who believes
you can trick your way into taxing wisely.
The “Trick” AmWay is to incrementally raise taxes on the top 50% in a way that we won’t notice so much.
The “Trick” is to slooooowwwwlllly pick our back pocket and take most, but not all, of our hard-earned money to give to the Liberal Socialist Democrats – who want to complain about big evil corporations and at the same time, complain that their are not enough corporate jobs.
They don’t really want to work, they just want to Btich!
Outlander,
“Now you write complaining about conservative talking heads who opposed McCain and who are now supporting him. You really can’t understand that either?
Did you really expect that they would support Obama or Clinton?”
And my point is even simpler: they said they wouldn’t, and now they are. This might make them liars, but I think it demonstrates what I’ve claimed: Republicans do what they’re told.
“The “Trick” is to slooooowwwwlllly pick our back pocket and take most, but not all, of our hard-earned money”
That’s the problem Max. I believe they want it ALL. They want to pick all my pockets clean, and justify the robbery. Problem is, financial reports indicate that even if you took ALL the top 5%’s money, you would still NOT HAVE ENOUGH to pay all our nations bills.
So now what? Top 10%? Still not enough.
Heck Max, I think they want what I have hidden in my socks!
Dear Nazi,
And all you do is sit around all day and bitch about Democrats. Do you EVER work?
Well AmWay, when they start stealing 70 to 80% of our income, then we simply quit working.
Or will they hold a gun to our heads, chain us to our jobs, and FORCE us to work?
Heck, that would be work to make us work!
Help me out here. Did Paul win any delegates to the Republic National Convention? How is he one of the “…2 remaining candidates?”
Of course he did. And he continues to gain delegates. Get much news where you are monkey? Maybe you should look into things before you spout.
He is still a remaining Rebulican candidate because he is still supported, funded and has not quit. Maybe if you understood the difference between a Republic and the Republican Party, you would not continue to sound so daft.
The Government will hire people to be Slave Drivers.
That is, the Slave Drivers will hold guns to our heads, whip us, and chain us to our jobs to force us to work to pay for THEM!
The Government will have to pay people to force other people to work!
I wonder if there will be more people being paid by Government to force people to work, then people who are actually working?
That’s why the last 43 Presidents (that’s all of them) have all been white.
That makes you a racist them cappy. As America has chosen her president 43 times, America has chosen White males. What an utterly stupid post.
And to try to peddle it as a conservative issue? Blatantly ignorant race baiting.
Why did your guy, along with your party’s Congress, nearly double the national debt in 7 years?
Strange that, I thought there were liberals, independents, and a whole slew of politicians in Congress. Most of them voting to fund the war.
Why is it cappy, that the Democrats continue to fund the war?
“your party’s Congress, nearly double the national debt in 7 years?”
Some of that “doubling” is still going on under the democratic controlled congress.
Now what?
Clinton added 1.5 trillion (count them) dollars to the national debt.
Now what?
Why did your guy, along with your party’s Congress, nearly double the national debt in 7 years?

You still think that there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans in todays current political landscape?
I feel sorry for you. Your loyalty to a party is what keeps the sleeping giant of America asleep.
The National Debt, and National Deficit is a straw man for Liberals just for today.
If Obama or Clinton become POTUS, then their Socialist spending increases will lead to Trillion Dollar annual deficits.
But we will not hear about this in the news.
As long as the Libs get their free stuff, they could give a flying rip about the Debt or the Deficit.

Once you realize that nothing really changes no matter who is in office, you’ll be in a better frame of mind.
I’ll even come to your house and pull an Obi Wan Kenobi line out of my rear. It’ll sound something like, “Good, you’ve taken your first step into a much larger world.”
“You still think that there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans in todays current political landscape?”
Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is your above post Objectivist…..
Bob Barr
Ron Paul.
Real conservatives. Look at the drastic difference between the above mentioned and the three liberals leading the race.
Rude Pundit nails it on McCain this morning despite the language.
For those of you who repeat the tape recording, “Voting for McCain is voting for another Bush”,
would you also say, “Voting for Clinton is voting for another Clinton?”
Reposted from the ‘Open Thread’
As much as I dislike Clinton and think she is a self-serving liar, she is far-far less dangerous to the future of the U.S. than Obama. Though personally I think comparing them to each other is a little like trying to compare the lethality of snake venom, and having to choose your poison.
Then again that’s a personal opinion, but I do think that both can and will seriously undermine the basic constitutional premises this country was founded on and has or did flourished under.
Those folks that hate Bush so much and fear MCCain is a simply copy, and I’m not hear to argue the Bush hate point at all, should simply think about the way Clinton and Obama consistently have voted to place the state above the individual and our freedoms. The 2nd. Amendment issue is but one example, a clear and important one though, among the many that their voting records clearly prove that they place their faith in big government, and that the people of the country must me ‘managed’ according to their recipe right down to the small details. Please examine their records and not simply accept the political pandering verbiage we get through the news media.
We seem to be standing in the cross-hairs of a new era — where the power is to a large extent shifting from the people to the government. To secure its dominance, the proponents of a large, liberal, increasingly socialist government are using every available means to take away individual freedom and responsibility and therefore our dignity and self-respect by the use of entitlement programs, the redistribution of wealth and earnings, and the taking of private property from the people.
Ours is rapidly becoming a radically different country than the one the Constitution established and the one I grew up in admiring and feeling so privileged to be born into.
One day, when what is passing is but a page in history, those reading will wonder what we were thinking to have let this happen.
Think long and carefully what the politicians are saying and promising. Are they offering freedom with equal opportunity? Or are they promising a cornucopia of entitlements, at great expense, that they can’t deliver, and with even more government control and less individual freedom. Efforts instead directed towards equal outcomes where eventually everyone will have little of anything. When they promise too much they will also take too much, and they will fail in their promises as well.
“that they can’t deliver”
It’s already a foregone conclusion that they will blame the other party when initiatives fail. That’s what the red and blue teams are all about.
“The “Trick” is to slooooowwwwlllly pick our back pocket and take most, but not all, of our hard-earned money to give to the Liberal Socialist Democrats”
Max I guess it is just the way I see it, but point of order. Does it make you feel any better you have been giving your hard earned money to the “Liberal, Socialist Republicans” ?
Because that is whom has been in control of the Party for several years now!
AM in a word….YES! A clinton is a CLinton. Not a put down but an oberservation!
Sorry American way I said AM when It was AW
WD,
C’mon brother, you know the GOP isn’t picking our pockets.
Directly anyway.
They borrow the money from China so our grand kids get mugged with the bill.
At the start of all this I would have been glad to see Mc Cain get the nod, but he changed and moved further away from the center and more towards Neoconservatives ideals.
Sol I agree, a debate between Dr. Paul and Mc Cain on the economy and foreign affairs would be a blood bath. By the end of it John would begin to wonder if he can tie his own shoe laces.
John would begin to wonder if he can tie his own shoe laces.
I think he already has his doubts…
Bush pretended to be a moderate in 2000 and the press promoted him as such (those who looked at his record in Texas knew he was lying). McCain is figuring the press is dumb enough to fall for it again (they do provide McCain with donuts afterall).
To get an idea of how stupid the media is regarding McCain, they laud him for his environmental positions. His rating with the League of Conservation Voters is zero. Even his buddy Lieberman can’t get him to sign onto Lieberman’s climate change bill because it doesn’t involve billions in corporate welfare (for the guy who wants to get rid of earmarks) for nuclear power.
How long into the McCain presidency until the media reports that they couldn’t have seen that McCain was such a conservative?
I am not so sure of that Sol, I always got a tax refund BEFORE the Republican tax cut! But then in the grand scheme of things. Which is less money stolen out of the pocket, a hundred dollars today or a hundred dollars next year? As for fiscal responsibility spending money today you do not have and planning to have others pay the money over the next fifty years. Sure sounds like they hired Paris Hilton as the Treasury secretary!
writerdog sez:
“Sure sounds like they hired Paris Hilton as the Treasury secretary!”
Well her dad made millions taking money away from Catholic orphanages. Sounds like something a Republican treasury official would approve of.

Sol –
Still flogging the Ron Paul bandwagon? Give it up, man, it’s over. He fought the good fight (even if he is more than just a little nutty). He lost. There will be no convention fight.
And I thought only the liberals lived in fantasyland . . . .
flogging
Nah. Not at all. But flogging every male appendage that comes his way seems to be McCain’s favorite pass time. If that is what blows your skirt up, get in line. McCain will swallow you just like everyone else.
“Max I guess it is just the way I see it,you have been giving your hard earned money to the “Liberal, Socialist Republicans” ? Because that is whom has been in control of the Party for several years now!”
Amen WriterDog. Amen. Sometimes hard on this blog to get the point across that you can be a conservative – but feel you are part of the new republican party.
Thanks for answering the question on electing another Clinton. To some people, the tape recording calling McCain another Bush becomes fuzzy when trying to sort out which Clinton is running, and upon who’s driving record they are reasoning support. The same is true for some of those not supporting Hillary.
Oops.
“feel you are NOT part of the new republican party.”
You know GMC that has been something that has always gotten me ever since I first heard the claim.
That Paul is a nut , he was the most Conservative candidate on any of the debates, shoot he was the only Real Republican on any of the debates! And because he was a true Conservative and a true Republican that made him a Nut! Black is White, White is green and Paul is a Nut!
That Paul is a nut , he was the most Conservative candidate on any of the debates, shoot he was the only Real Republican on any of the debates! And because he was a true Conservative and a true Republican that made him a Nut! Black is White, White is green and Paul is a Nut!
Sshhhhhhh!!!
That is what fuxnews told GMC. Don’t confuse him !!!!
Sol –
Sexual innuendo? That’s the best you got?
Look, there may well be good reasons to support Paul. And some of his positions appeal to me; like most conservatives, I have a streak of libertarianism. It is part of what we are.
But, for God’s sake, man, face facts.
1) Paul will not get the nomination. There will not be a floor fight, or even the appearance of a floor fight. Paul will be lucky to speak to the convention.
2)Some of Paul’s position are, let’s be kind, outside the mainstream from either party. Tying monetary policy to the Gold standard, for example, will not happen; indeed, it cannot happen. I cannot see why, given the world as it is, it would even be desireable. And Paul’s racist past, or at least his tolerance of same on his behalf, cannot be denied, though you indeed try, Sol.
Wake up and smell the coffee, Sol. It’s over for Paul, at least this election cycle. That you continue to feed this fantasy makes me wonder at your grasp of the real world. For better or worse, Paul’s candidacy is over. Period. Ended. Dead. Deceased. Late. No More. Gone to Join the Chior Invisible. Ceased to Be. Pushing up Daisies. No Longer With Us. Six Feet Under. Worm Food.
He is an EX candidate!
Specific issues aside, the Paul candidacy reminded us that our federal government was to be one of limited powers, and that the Bill of Rights is not just a set of platitudes to be ignored when inconvenient. I thank him for this.
However, this is anything but a new issue, and I thought Justice Brandeis’ famous dissent in Olmstead v. U.S. addressed it in a more realistic fashion. And, as for his practical ideas on governance, well, he doesn’t seem to have any, and his conception of how we should govern a nation of 300 million people is indeed “nuts.”
But I still have this total contempt for this modern concept of handing war-making powers to the Executive Branch. That’s not what the Constitution says, or means, and there’s no way to evade that responsibility without violating one’s Constitutional oath of office. Ron Paul was the only candidate in either party to point this out.
Wait. . I think Dennis Kucinich did, too (hell, he’s been marginalized so much, I forgot about him! :( ).
Heh, Paul as parrot!
“because he was a true Conservative and a true Republican that made him a Nut! ”
Which is why, on this very blog, those of us who opine very conservative beliefs, are also labeled
similarly.
Even though we are right and everyone else is wrong.
Wishing for a Ron Paul.

Another IRS deadline date is upon us! The final day to rob from the rich to give to the poor! The final day to rob from us all to give to the war! Tax Freedom Day will be April 23rd, 2008. America will work three days less to pay taxes in 2008 than in 2007; Stimulus Rebates push day of celebration up. For Kansans, our state Tax Freedom Day is April 18th, making us 26th in the nation.

Yeah, right.
That’s the way to welcome serious political debate.
The gold standard. Hmmm do I want the dollars in my pocket to be anchored to a finite precious metal that has done nothing but increase in value? That has tripled in value recently?
Or would I rather have some ignorant chairman from a massively secretive bank unconstitutionally control the value of the dollar in my pocket. The same fiat system that bails out failing banks on my dime.
Tough choice GMC. I can see though that you would rather have some moron dictate what your retirement is worth.
Some idiot wrote some racist crap in a news letter and it cost him his job. That, you want to tie to Ron Paul and state that he is a racist. Big whiff on that one scooter, specially since the president of the NAACP stood up for Ron. Speaks volumes. And you ignoring the same speaks volumes to your ignorance of the decades old story.
Now, you want to look at track records? Paul’s is absolutely spotless in voting. McCain? Not so much.
McCain Kennedy? Didn’t know you supported amnesty GMC.
McCain-Feingold? Didn’t know you hated the first amendment GMC
McCain-Lieberman? Didn’t know you were and anti-coorporation GW sky is falling liberal GMC
McCain-Kennedy-Edwards – Didn’t know you supported lawsuit abuse GMC
McCain-Reimportation of Drugs
McCain was agin the Bush tax cuts afore he was a fore em. Flip flop anyone?
The Gang of 14
The Keating five?
Great candidate you have there GMC. And yes, Ron Paul is still a candidate. He is still funded and supported. He hasn’t quit. More importantly his message will live far past the convention and Nov Elections. Paul’s message, voting record, and repeated schooling of Bernanke will still be strong long after McCain (God forbid) takes office and shows you the true liberal he is.
But keep supporting the socialist anti-constitution hot tempered, can’t even spell economy can’t wait to bomb Iran though he doesn’t know why dolt McCain.
FROM ANOTHER THREAD >>>>
David B — I like your post — very accurate… The Right Wing is SO living in fear, that they are calling benefits of “PLAIN OLD HARD WORK” — Government hand outs!!
However, if they worked hard at their own jobs, and their employers rewarded them with extremely good benefit packages, they would say that they WORKED for it!!
Well — So do those European people!!
This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.

Awh come on Mr. MH, I was going to put the :-) face after that line, but thought it would be funnier without it. That line was in jest.
Sorry if you didn’t take it that way!

See? That’s the problem with dealing with you Cons. Every time you attempt to make a joke it sounds like you’re serious.
And every time you’re serious, it’s a joke.
Like I said: their angwy widdle woods now done, Repukes are all lining up like good little fascists. The latest: Rick Santorum.
**********************************************
“Oh, Rick. You were supposed to be the lone holdout. All of those other far-right Republicans swallowed hard and endorsed John McCain, but not Rick Santorum. You wouldn’t even consider it. No sirreebob.
You called the prospects of a McCain presidency “very dangerous.” Just last month, even after McCain had wrapped up the nomination, you still said there was just no way you could support the guy.
“The only one I wouldn’t support is McCain,” Santorum said during an interview in his office at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, where he is a senior fellow.
“I don’t agree with him on hardly any issues,” Santorum said. “I don’t think he has the temperament and leadership ability to move the country in the right direction.”
And today, those strong-willed principles suddenly mattered a little less.
Those conservatives who still question whether they can support McCain should remember this: The next president will make more than 2,700 political appointments, those who really set policy, across the bureaucracy of our government. I, for one, will sleep better at 3 a.m. if Republicans are in the cabinet and in White House positions that make so many critical decisions. The idea of “Attorney General John Edwards” and “Energy Secretary Al Gore” should cause some sleepless nights for Republicans or conservatives – and those in a U.S. manufacturing sector now struggling to stay afloat.
Here’s my final argument for John McCain. He’s not Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.
The GOP closes ranks. It always does.
Santorum concluded:
Many of my fellow Republicans have faulted me privately and publicly for being so outspoken about McCain, suggesting that I should have kept my mouth shut. First, I’ve never been very good at that. Second, I do not regret being up-front about such an important decision. Third, the primaries are a time when each party wrestles over what it’s looking for in a presidential candidate. Now is the time to come together.
As for the Reagan Axiom, given his opponent, McCain is close enough to 80 percent for government work. That is why I am going to vote for my friend — John McCain.
A month ago, McCain was too “dangerous” for Santorum to even consider. McCain had wrapped up the nomination, but Santorum wouldn’t budge. And now, it’s “time to come together” behind Santorum’s “friend.” How touching.
I mention this for a couple of reasons. First, it’s fun to tweak Santorum. Second, I argued months ago that the far-right voices who swore up and down they could never back McCain would end up backing McCain, and they have. I’m relieved they proved me right.
And finally, because it’s a reminder about what parties always do after a contested primary. McCain has enjoyed the luxury of time — he secured the GOP nomination while Dems continued to beat the crap out of each other, and got to work mending fences with his conservative critics. There are holdouts — James Dobson doesn’t seem to care about McCain’s overtures — but by and large, Santorum is following the predictable model.
The question I’ve been pondering, though, is whether the Democratic race will wrap up too late for the party to come back together again. Time will tell.”

Hell yes we will. If only to shut the door on the party that has brought fascism to America–the GOP.

I think that McCain she just retire he is too old to run for any office, and half of the time he is not paying any attention to what he is talking about. He should invest is time wisely by checking into the nearest nursing home and call it quits!!!
May McCain rest in peace.
The DemoRats are lining up like good little helpless children of Socialists, begging for their next meal.
May I have more soup please!
