How about "None of the above?"
Three are old-fashioned windmills that are usually broken down, one, an Indian who this state was stolen from, and the last, a map of the state, which implies the slogan "Kansas, That Big Empty Space Between You and Your Destination!"
Surely there is someone left in the state who could give us a reasonable, uncloying design for a tag?

First of all, nothing should be on the upper left corner which contains the county designation nor the upper right corner which contains the annual renewal stickers.

I suggest a stark borderless gray background with black letters/numbers appearing to be hand painted on flat sheet metal plates.

These depression-era style auto tags would represent direction most of Kansas is currently going: recession, over taxation, local governments strong-arming citizens, very slow population growth if not loss, environmental threats to our air and surface waters, "give-away" of our valuable underground Ogallala aquifer water and return to the Great American Desert.

Not a particularly secure voting system. I voted, deleted the site's cookie, and voted again. I'm sure some idiot is bombing the site as we speak :)

Oh well, I like #3, even though it's highly unlikely I'll ever have a Kansas license plate again.

I like 1 but by the time you put numbers over it you couldn't see it anymore.

4 IS the best suited for numbers and visibility of the design.

Reminds me of how HillaryCare will work:

Pick from one of the following Doctors:

1) Dr Strangelove.

2) Dr Zhivago.

3) Dr Welby.

4) Dr Demento.

Government choices! Hooray!

Wiseman,

Some states have multiple choices of personalized plates, and you get to choose which you like the best when you order. But then some states don't charge an arm and a leg for tagging a vehicle, either.

My choice was the windmill one, too. Without the State seal, thank you. ;) The curren vanity plate sucks and looks like a blog of mud. I really liked the one prior to that with the sunflowers, and had one then. And I don't even like sunflowers all that much!

Freddy is right. The first is just way too busy! Then again, plate numbers might be harder to read... J/K

Regular,

My daughter voted for the same tag you did. I agree that it's a good one, just not my first choice. The NA looks goofy. MHO, of course. Keeper of the Plains might have been nice or something more similar.

I like the one with the sunrise/sunset and silhouette of the windmill.
It is typical of what you see of Kansas and simple.
Now if only they would allow you to present your own picture design for a personalized tag, I would go for a photograph of a Kansas cowboy portrait.
If you think about it, they allow you to use words and abbreviations for personalize tags, so why not allow you to use an image of your own choosing if it is decent.
The state could be making extra money from the personalized tags, I am sure that there is a market for it and that it would be truly unique for Kansas and possibly a first in the nation, maybe setting a trend.

They all suck! That first one is WAY too busy for a license plate. It's not even rectangle-shaped. The sepia-toned one looks too much like the current buffalo plate. The two orange ones look like postcards. The only one that looks decent is the blue and green one with the Indian, but even that one is pretty lame.

Kansas license plates used to be cool, now they all suck. I thought the buffalo plates looked like crap the minute I saw them. The best personalized plates were the white ones with the sunflower in the corner. They should have never changed that design.

They made a mistake when they completely removed any wheat and/or gold color from the plates in the new, all Blue design. It seems like as the state becomes more urban and/or more centered on Johnson County, the plates become more lame and kitschy.

On my way here, I was thinking how cool and interesting it would be to have something like the FSM on Kansas plates!

The one depicted is the one I chose. A good contrast in art and color, along with simplicity. Would have rather seen it in more earth tones though.
