Among the economic casualties of the Bush administration, count former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who is having trouble finding work, according to news reports. Gonzales reportedly has sent feelers out to top law firms but has found no takers. It’s a sign of how discredited Gonzales has become, even in Republican circles, largely because of widespread charges that he lied in testimony to Congress about dismissal of top federal prosecutors and surveillance programs. Before he was forced to resign last year, he was widely perceived as someone who prized loyalty to the president more than adherence to the rule of law.

Maybe we can help get him a job making license plates.
Live by the sword, die by the sword. Look what loyalty to Bush buys you…

LMAO. Along side his former employers.
I DO like the way your mind works Ben!
He is a young man and I don’t know whether he comes from wealth. IF he needs to work and make an income do you suppose his former employers will kick in just to ensure he remains quiet?
So am I, but he can just put an ad on tv and never have to chase ambulances.
I should have used different wording since WE THE PEOPLE are actually (or should have been) his former employers. I was, of course, referring to those he actually worked for - bushco.
I imagine there’s a lot of resentment in the legal community for a guy that would fire competent lawyers for no other than partisan politics.
Do I see a future Kansas Chamber of Commerce guest speaker above? Gonzo may have to come to the reservation!
Hey, didn’t I just do this one in the open thread? Darn, I hate plagiarism:-)
Perhaps ole Bushie can get a “Save Gonzo” fund going.
The douche totally deserves everything he’s getting. Do I feel sorry. Nope. I have a feeling he’s going to be in good company soon. Should have happened sooner.
Ah, not to worry…he’ll land a heck of a lot higher, and find more success, than all of the above posters combined.
“It’s a sign of how discredited Gonzales has become, even in Republican circles, largely because of widespread charges that he lied in testimony to Congress about dismissal of top federal prosecutors and surveillance programs.”
I think it’s due just as much to the man’s claimed inability to remember anything some 72 times during a two and a half hour long hearing.
Who in his right mind wants a law partner who seemingly possesses no memory?
“Ah, not to worry…he’ll land a heck of a lot higher, and find more success, than all of the above posters combined.”
I think it depends upon how you define success. If it means landing a good paying job, no doubt he will. Eventually.
If your yardstick goes beyond this, taking into account personal integrity and the esteem in which one is held as a result, he will likely never recover.
Hmmm, the Crats never did get their way in trying to prove something - or was that prove anything - or just prove just one thing.
Anyone? Anyone?
What did the Crats prove with all that drama during the Gonzales reign?
Did they prove anything?
Come on now, let’s hear some facts.
They proved they can put enough pressure to get rid of one really rotten AG.

That’s it?
All that money spent and that’s all they did?
What did the Republicans prove with their eight year witch hunt directed at President Bill Clinton?
After spending $70 million of American taxpayer dollars and countless millions more from special interest groups, we found out that……..
Clinton received oral sex from a willing intern.
Clinton did not want his wife to find out about his indiscretions.
I have no argument with that Clark. I thought the Clinton impeachment was a colossal waste of time and a National embarrassment.
Just as the Gonzales episode was a colossal waste time and a National embarrassment.
On the night of March 10, 2004, as Attorney General John D. Ashcroft lay ill in an intensive-care unit, his deputy, James B. Comey, received an urgent call.
White House Counsel Alberto R. Gonzales and President Bush’s chief of staff, Andrew H. Card Jr., were on their way to the hospital to persuade Ashcroft to reauthorize Bush’s domestic surveillance program, which the Justice Department had just determined was illegal.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/15/AR2007051500864.html
Being as how Ashcroft had to be under the influence of morphine, demarol, or both, He was in no condition to be hammered by Bush’s waterboy, Gonzales. But that never stopped the Bush brigade from showing any form of human decency in a blatant attempt to get the illegal surveillance program signed.
Yep, sure would want Gonzales on my team . . . not.
Each person who has been a part of the current administration has been a national embarrassment, along with a total waste of time. Any one who can be removed is a good step in the right direction.

I like that statement from one with a nic like your’s. Are you proud of your nic’s lifestyle?
Fiore “Fifi” Buccieri (December 16, 1907 - August 1973) was a Chicago mobster and member of the Chicago Outfit who specialized in loansharking.
You’re kidding right?
America is RIPE with business looking for toady yes men.
Maybe paulie can point Gonzo in a direction.
Or, after bush is out of office, Condi will be free to join Gonzo and Rummy in a three stooges redux.
He’s so tainted by Worst. President. Ever. that even the reich-wing won’t hire him.
It’s like the colleges in Texas that refused to house Bush’s papers.
One can only hope that all the horrible Nazgul that served Sauron meet the same fate as this one.
Good post, JR.
They can go around the country doing that hiLARious skit Bush did of looking for WMD’s behind the furniture . . . “nope, can’t find them here.”
Boy, is that ever a knee-slapper or what!
Only 4000 American soldiers had to die for that joke . . . .
You’ve gotta wonder about Gonzo’s job interviews.
“So where have you been working lately, Mr. Gonzales?”
“I don’t recall.”
“What were your duties?”
“I have no recollection of my duties.”
“It says on your resume you were Attorney General of the United States.”
“I don’t remember holding that job.”
“And before that, you were counsel to the President of the United States? Certainly that’s something we can talk about.”
“I do not remember advising the president of anything.”
Poor guy can’t even sell his memoirs since he can’t remember anything!
Just as the Republic Party used and chewed up J.C. Watts, then spat him out, Gonzo is another minority pawn used for photo-ops and dragged out as a token when it suits the rich-white-boy faction of the Republic Party.
Does anyone who’s ever seen the “Godfather” movies not see the signifcance that Shrub’s nickname for Alberto Gonzales was “Fredo?!”
That’s beyond irony all the way to pure Bushist evil. Gonzo helped Shrub come face to face with his criminal record back when the Governor’s name came up for jury duty. Gonzo got Dubya off and earned brownie points all the way up to the highest level of the Cabinet.
But then, he “couldn’t recall.”
The amazing part of this story is that there’s no right-wing think-tank, no lobbying firm, no Kristol-esque media deal, no syndicated column… no NOTHING out there for Alberto Gonzales because he spent most of his career propping up George WMD Bush.
And who wants a piece of that action?!
Maybe he and the HUD Secretary can start a lobbying firm! I hope bush meets with as much success when he goes out public speaking to fatten his coffers. Except, bush has an in, he’ll be speaking in Saudi Arabia making 6 or 7 figures.
The Prez:” You need somethin’ to do Gonzo? Grab that weed eater and see that fence out front of the White House? I’ll take care of you , Gonzo. Now go do a hell of a job on that fence! I never forget a friend”
