By the way, I am not bashing illegals. I don't like that they get exploited. I REALLY don't like that it hits me right in the wallet.

But if American business had not institutionalized the exploitation, it might not be such a problem.

For the record?

The job in question was putting in flooring.

Now I'm new at that. But I did a good job.

Lowe's or one of the bigs will subcontract that labor to illegals at $2.95 a square foot.

They'll pay the illegals a pittance and pocket the difference.

I made about $1 a square foot. But that money stays in the working class American economy. It does not get unfairly split between someones shareholders and a little to send to Mexico.

Sol and "Max"

Do you compete against illegal labor?

Is it fair that I have to? YOU two are just the sort of greedheads who would hire 5 illegals and pay them the same thing you would pay me or some other American. Rage said it better than me.

JR you are getting $300 because that is what you should be getting.

By the same logic, why pay an American $15 an hour to do something (along with benefits, wage-and-hour rules, OSHA standards, and all the other liberal crap), when you can get a 10-year-old kid overseas to do the same thing for $2 a day, and we can work them as hard as we want, without all those namby-pamby rules!

Amazing how these same people who meekly accept the well-connected manipulating business and the economy at will, get really upset when common folks try to do the same. The hyprocrisy overwhelms.

All hail the free market! Hallelujahgobble!

JR you are getting $300 because that is what you should be getting.

You SHOULD be getting $1,000 only if someone values your work enough to pay you that much.

Your opinion of the monetary value doesn't matter. It's the opinion of your CUSTOMERS or EMPLOYERS that matters.

Like Sol said, if no one bids the amount YOU think you are worth, then walk. If your skills are so great, then people will be beating a path to your door to offer you work. Or, sometimes, you have to push yourself and market your skills - be the salesman.

If you have something of value to offer to sell, then you will find buyers.

If not, don't expect me or anyone else to pay for your sorry a**.

My opportunity tomorrow is finishing up a contract job I should be getting a thousand dollars for.

I’m getting 300.

Sucks to be you. I am a small business owner and I am on a long term contract making more than I should. I negotiated the contract to my best benefit. Had the numbers not been there, I would have walked. I renegotiate the contract each year.

Why this works for me; I love the work I do, I am damn good at it, and I chose a profession that is for the most part recession proof. All decisions I made myself.

I need no handouts. I need no one to negotiate for me. I stand alone, and do quite well for it. Don’t blame others for your poor decisions.

"Luck into decent jobs".

Sometimes it's all luck. Rarely though.

Usually it's hard work. Going to school, learning a trade, working your way up and gaining some experience and expertise in whatever interests you.

1) Rarely is someone successful by doing nothing.

2) Rarely is someone successful by just complaining.

3) Rarely is someone successful by begging for more handouts and free stuff.

4) Rarely is someone successful by bitterly blaming others for their own failures.

5) Rarely is someone successful by sitting on their a** and not bothering to look outside of their own little town for opportunities for work and success.

6) Rarely is someone successful when they CAN'T do anything, or think they CAN'T do anything, or refuse to do anything for themselves.

7) Rarely is someone successful when they take pride in being a professional victim.

These are the characteristics of Liberal Socialist Democrats. The Party of Failure, and of Hope, and of Change, and of Whining, and of Complaining.

AmWay writes, "I won’t take your bet Capn because I hope you are right!"

Translation: I'm a blow-hard that says stuff that isn't credible.

"Opportunity is out there. Look beyond the near horizon."

Translation: A few people luck into decent jobs, so you millions slaving for pennies just have to blame yourselves.

Except for Alberto Gonzales, apparently.

"Every media count conducted later showed that Bush would have carried Florida in a recount."

This was part of the media's desperate attempt to provide legitimacy to the illegitamte administration and their attempts were apparently successful, judging my misinformed people like Robert L.

Did you not read any of the posts above?

Gore got tens of thousands of "overvotes."

Those were legal votes that should have been counted and would have been counted had the Supreme Court not shut the voting down.

He would have won by many thousands of votes if that had happened.

Florida is not "an excuse." It is Exhibit A in how the CONs do whatever it takes to thwart democracy and maintain their power.

The 2000 Florida election, which is really irrelevant now, is part of the sore loser mythology that some Democrats have to maintain because it is indeed painful to lose an election that narrowly. Every media count conducted later showed that Bush would have carried Florida in a recount. I do concede, however, that the infamous butterfly ballot in Palm Beach County probably cost Gore the election. The Democratic election officials in that county designed a ballot which at first glance could easily cause one to mistakenly vote for Pat Buchanan while intending to vote for Gore. Buchanan wound up with thousands more votes in that one county than would have been expected based on his votes in other counties. A normally designed ballot in that county indeed would have likely tipped the election to Gore.
