Never mind that Hillary Clinton didn’t win Kansas’ Democratic primary. She saw herself in Kansas’ come-from-behind win of the NCAA Championship. “A few of you were up late watching that game last night,” she told a gathering of the Communications Workers of America in Washington, D.C. “Great comeback, right? My kind of outcome.” To the union members, she added: “You know what it’s like to be told to go away, to quit. I know a little something about that, too.” Meanwhile, Kansas Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback have introduced a Senate resolution hailing the Jayhawks’ win. “This is a great day for KU and the state of Kansas. Rock Chalk Jayhawk,” Roberts said on the Senate floor.

Editors, you couldn’t just give us a thread on the Jayhawks without tarnishing them with Clinton?
So, is Hillary Rocky or the University of Kansas? I guess both, all rolled up into one! Man, what a candidate.
Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, of Kansas, introduced a Senate resolution today to commend The University of Kansas Jayhawks for last night’s national championship over Memphis.
Damn, I’m glad there isn’t any pressing, important business to occupy their time. Glad I pay taxes.
If I recall, Rocky got his a$$ beat by a black guy.
The game came down to poise and I give that credit to Bill Self. Calipari lost control of the game and lost control of his team. Forget sitting on two times-out with ten seconds to go. Forget not getting the foul on Sharron Collins.
Memphis was whupped at the end of regulation. You could see it in their eyes. Both teams had five minutes to win it in OT. Calipari lost it before the overtime tip-off.

I understand your point, but this is standard practice. Both houses, both parties. Hell, read the congressional record sometime. Full of BS. Actually, the cr isn’t, really. Members are routinely allowed to “add and amend” their remarks in the record. Keeps them honest. HAHA.

Ouch.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER Rhonda. HSssT HSssT.
Talk about a catty way to Bash Hillary included in a totally non related thread.

I know, and agree, LJ. Cripes, it’s bad enough they do it and we know they do it, but don’t be stupid (them, not you, LJ) to advertise the fact!
It’s a great day for the KU and this state. Hell, let em rename I35 Jayhawk highway if they want. JR called em freaks yesterday. They are none of that; they are excellent, hardworking athletes coached by a great coach in Bill Self. They are the ones who bring recognition to the state in both education and sports.
Awesome job, dudes, regardless of the naysayers. You deserve the accolades!
Was a great game wasn’t it?
The key is that the Kansas Jayhawks played their game, never game up and stuck it out until the end.
Clinton is the heavily-favored team that was supposed to coast to victory.
Oops.
Give Hillary another week, and she will have not only have been at the game, but she will have been the one making the last minute three pointer!
Such it is with liars.
I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods today. After seeing their ad in the morning paper, I addressed tyvek envelopes to my son in Boston and grandson in Walla Walla, Washington. My plan was to stroll in, choose the grey t-shirts our players donned at the end of last night’s game in exactly the sizes I needed, stop by the post office and send two of them on their way. My other grandkids would receive theirs this evening in person.
Is there a person any more naive than I am!?
Just inside the store in the center aisle were several EMPTY tables with 20 – 30 people standing around them talking. I ambled close enough to hear the truck was on its way and should arrive by 2 p.m. Someone from among the “waiters” would occasionally dial up the East Dick’s and SportsTime so I knew those stores were also waiting on the trucks en route from Lawrence.
After shopping for an hour I return to wait with a bit larger group around the empty tables. Again some are checking other locations via cell phones and this seems to be “THE PLACE” to be.
A large box arrives around 1:45 and everyone crowds closer. Inside this box were caps. We all touch them and admire the National Champs logo. Questions about the t-shirts are answered with more indefinite, “the truck is on its way” mumbles, maybe by 4 p.m.
I’m home. Did you know those exact shirts are available on-line!?
lindainks55,
I’m waiting for the mad rush to end on the t-shirts with the logo. Figured my nephews would like some for Christmas. Might get a sweat shirt for myself as well, so I can keep all warm and toasty. :)
Waiting is wise. Or shipping on line. Sheesh! Oh well, I got to stand around those empty tables and rehash last night’s game with people equally excited about the victory as I am.
“JR called em freaks yesterday.”
Not quite.
I said men’s basketball was dominated by outsized freaks.
College athletics and particular basketball, I could not care less.
Look, I am not the greatest sports fan either, but I admire hard work, team work, courage and a winning spirit.
I do wish that Kansas would brag a bit more about Naismith, the man who INVENTED basketball, who was the first basketball coach at KU.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Naismith
Teddy Roosevelt once called the “Rock Chalk Jayhawk” cheer the BEST college sports cheer ever.
And, of course, the “Jayhawk” history itself, with the REPUBLICAN, Free Soil, anti-slavery movement is very interesting to any history buff:
http://www.ku.edu/about/traditions/jayhawk.shtml
This is a time to be proud.
I saw courage and sportsmanship and teamwork last night.
I spend lots of time on the phone, with people all over the country.
Kansans are admired by many people, nationwide, in no small part because of teams like the KU Jayhawks.
Naismith being from Canada is a fact my Canadian friend likes to bring up as often as possible. We have good natured oneupmanship games between us. She knows I’m a college basketball fan so she counts a Canadian inventing the game as one in her column. It’s all fun and games AND I didn’t know he was from Canada before she told me.

No Shockers can ever say they played the now legendary Mario Chalmers.
It’s been a lot of Selfish for five years now unable to find a way to play WSU. Williams had his reasons, Self never had to act the same way.
They may Kansas on their chest, but Wichita is left out. KSU is no better, missed that chance to play with Beasley. At least KSU and WSU were in same tournament with a chance to play each other.
Some KU fans are trying to say BEST TEAM EVER, not quite. Undefeated Indiana is better in history. Duke and Florida repeated Championships.
It’s good to see plays mattered. Need to make free throws to win a game!
Not too many bad ref calls, Ed Hightower didn’t take over the game when his attitude has in other big moments.
Why does she have to inject herself into such a wonderful and joyous moment? She did not win Kansas and neither will McCain. Kansas is OBAMA’S home state!
Hillary was at the game but she had to leave early to duck the snipers outside the arena and get back to DC for a 3AM phone call!
No kev, Kansas is Obama’s Mamma home state, not Obama’s.
Obama claims Kansas as his birth state, not his home state.
“Obama claims Kansas as his birth state, not his home state.”
Oh, bullshit – Obama has always said that he was born in Hawaii.
Dumbass.
“Never mind that Hillary Clinton didn’t win Kansas’ Democratic primary. ”
SO?
Don’t you read your own paper Rhonda?
Don’t you read your own threads even?
Why just the other day came the news that McCain is expanding his lead in the beknighted feudal duchy of Kansas.
Be it Senator Clinton or Senator Obama as an opponent, old John will win by 10 points or more.
If there is a bright center to the universe, Kansas is probably the place it is farthest from.
If anyone is dumb enough to rename I35 for KU’s win, I’ll find a new route to KC.
Isn’t this posting, and especially the title, a new journalistic low for the Eagle’s blog? Why mix politics and sports when the bigger story is simply the Kansas sports story? Can’t we all feel a bit of pride in KU basketball regardless of school or political affiliation? Why not give a quote from Max Falkenstein — KU’s long time sports broadcaster who retired in the last year or so — comparing the 2008 win with other games instead of even mentioning politicians? [And I'm not even that much of a sports fan.]
Thank you kbird, for ONCE I totally agree with you!!!!
Rhonda should resign…mixing politics in with the KU win is yellow journalism at it’s worst.
Perhaps Rhonda should go to work for Nightlife.
For a little humor, and mixing politics with Division 1 Mens Basketball:

Obviously, JR is one of the people who is just plain too stupid to move from a place he hates.
