Cheney back on the warpath on Iran

cheneyVice President Dick Cheney is busy these days “casting the Iranian leadership as apocalyptic zealots who yearn for a nuclear conflagration,” Dan Froomkin wrote for the Washington Post. Froomkin noted how Cheney’s claims ignore the last National Intelligence Estimate, which concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003. And he said that the prophecies about “the 12th Imam” marked Cheney’s “revival of an old neocon chestnut.”

I think the War Nerd put it best last year, when he re-envisioned Cheney as a super-double-secret-double-agent for Iran. After all, what has the war in Iraq accommplished more effectively than to establish Iran as the dominant power in the region?

    **********************************************
    Here is the War Nerd.

“But let’s take the question seriously for a second here: who won in Iraq? To answer it, you have to start with a close-up of the region, then change magnification to look at the world picture. At a regional level the big winner is obvious: Iran. In fact, Iran wins so big in this war that I’ve already said that Dick Cheney’s DNA should be checked out by a reputable lab, because he has to be a Persian mole. My theory is that they took a fiery young Revolutionary Guard from the slums of Tehran, dipped him in a vat of lye to get that pale, pasty Anglo skin, zapped his scalp for that authentic bald CEO look, squirted a quart of cholesterol into his arteries so he’d develop classic American cardiac disease, and parachuted him into the outskirts of some Wyoming town. And that’s how our VP was born again, a half-frozen zombie with sagebrush twigs in his jumpsuit, stumbling into the first all-night coffee shop in Casper talking American with a Persian accent: “Hello my friends! Er, I mean, hello my fellow Americans! Coffee? I will have coffee at once, indeed, and is not free enterprise a glorious thing? Say, O brethren of the frosty tundra, what do you say we finish our donuts and march on Baghdad now, this very moment, to remove the Baathist abomination Saddam?”

It took a couple years for Cheney-ajad to get his American accent right and chew his way into Bush Jr.’s head, but he made it like one of Khan’s earwigs, got us to do the Ayatollahs’ dirty work for them by taking out Iraq, their only rival for regional power. Iraq is destroyed, and Tehran hasn’t lost a single soldier in the process. Our invasion put their natural allies, the Shia, in power; gave their natural enemies, the Iraqi Sunni, a blood-draining feud that will never end; and provided them with a risk-free laboratory to spy on American forces in action. If they feel like trying out a new weapon or tactic to deal with U.S. armor, all they have to do is feed the supplies or diagrams to one of their puppet Shia groups, or even one of the Sunni suicide-commando clans.

All these claims that Iran is helping the insurgents really make my head spin. Of course they’re helping. They’d be insane if they weren’t. If somebody invades the country next door, any state worth mentioning has to act. If Mexico got invaded by China, you better believe the U.S. would react. We’d lynch any president who didn’t.”

    http://can.mailarchive.ca/politics/2007-05/5557.html

    *******************************************

And now Cheney wants to turn on his paymasters and bomb them back Into the Stone Age / Regime Change? The ingratitude!

Seriously, though, Dick really does need to chill out. At the rate he’s going, retirement will seem him not confined to U.S. borders as an international war criminal, but confined to Wyoming as persona non grata in the rest of the civilized world.

Cheney nor Bush have any pull to do a darn thing about Iran. They were warned before going into Iraq that it might prevent us from doing something about real threats to our nation. So now we can stand idly by and reap what we have sown.

The 9/11 commission in their report, and in the more extensive coverage in this book:
    http://www.philipshenon.com/content/index.asp ,
there are ear implications that Iran helped a majority of the 9/11 attackers get out of Afghanistan. I am doubting this link has been fully explored.

The Saudis have been rather lame in dealing with the Al Qaeda factions within their borders. Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 despite persistent Cheney claims to the contrary.

This administration’s response to the worst attack on American soil has been the very definition of “FUBAR”.

This seems very similar to the BS that saddam helped his alQuada enemies with 9/11. This might come as a surprise to the neocons but Shiite Iran and Wahabi alQuada are and have been enemies for a long time.

There seem to be good sources for this info. The question is was there collusion on the part of Iran for the 9/11 plot? That would seem impossible to prove, IMO. It is possible any help they provided was unknown to them at the time. There at least was some evidence of a connection, whereas with Iraq there was none.

The book I cite above, explores how very disingenous the Bush administration was in their dealings with the 9/11 commission. Zelikow, Condi’s friend, and the Whitehouse director of the Commission*, was in constant contact with Karl Rove during the time of commission’s work. They shaped every response and drug their heels every inch of the way. They recognized and responded to the political threat the Commission posed for Bush’s 2004 campaign.

*Who also got a cush job under Condi after the Commission ended its work – pure coincidence, I am sure…

I dunno, probably the same reason Arab states don’t allow equal status for minorities or minority religions. You know, those Arab countries that have Sharia law incorporated into their Constitution.

Ask the Israelis – it’s their country. Why they to choose what they do, they do because the majority passed their laws and constitution to make it say.

Can’t always compare models of what the U.S. is, constitutional-wise with what we expect other countries to be.

It just won’t work and doesn’t.

This is why people are confused about Iraq. There are some very unique laws that are stylized to Iraq that would never work in the U.S.

People trying to compare apples to orange and expecting things to work the way they think they should work the same as the U.S. Constitutional model, need a lesson in World History and government.

Show me where the Palestinians EVER had their own country, would you please?
The fact is, “Palestine” is an area named by the Romans.
The fact is, the “borders” of Palestine have always been determined by its neighbors.
The fact is, Israel is the first nation on Earth that has ever, actively, supported the idea of establishing a true Palestinian “homeland” in Gaza and the West Bank.

It is the other Arab countries who wish to keep the Palestinian conflict going.
With all the oil wealth of the Moslem countries, they would rather give the Palestinian radicals bombs and guns, and pay for suicide bombers, than build hospitals or create real jobs.

The vast majority of Arab CITIZENS of Israel, would rather live in Israel than in any Arab or Moslem controlled country.

The actual insult could be any slur or imputation that demonizes the target – depending on the forum, the triggers words could be ‘communist’, ‘capitalist’, ‘pedophile’, ‘Suethor’, or anything else meant solely to evoke rage and disgust from the other posters.

The point of the law is that the more protracted and bitter the argument, the more likely it is that someone will resort to name-calling or some other form of ad hominem attack. The corellary is that this usually causes a chain reaction as everyone begins to reply in kind, and any intelligent debate still remaining will get pushed aside by increasingly strident and vicious mudslinging. It may be a symptom of LaynesLaw that this isn’t clearer.

Think of it as the Mutually Assured Destruction principle applied to debate – as long as things remain at least marginally civil, conversation is at least possible, but one low blow will lead to a retaliation and an escalating exchange of insults that once started is nearly impossible to contain and will usually consume the thread and possibly spill in others in the forum as well.

The real lesson to be taken from the law is that it is senseless to continue a stalemated argument between two irreconcilable positions unless you can bring something new to the discussion. When both sides can do nothing but repeat the same positions over and over again, the only solution is to pull away from the fight. -

His face must be frozen in that expression. If Iran launced a nuke or two at Israel, they could be assured of receiving ten fold in kind. Israel can take care of itself. If we try to push Israel too hard, they are quick to let us know that also.
