Campaign donors expect dividends

“Two billion dollars will be spent on the presidential campaign. People don’t give that kind of money out of the goodness of their hearts.” — former NBC News anchorman Tom Brokaw, warning a recent audience at the Dole Institute of Politics in Lawrence about the “broken and inconsistent” U.S. presidential election system

When the government is broken, how can you expect the election system to not be broken, too?

I and a million other small donors give to Obama expecting nothing in return except good leadership.

Obama is changing politics already . . .

The government has absolutely no business telling the voters how we are allowed to express our political views.

    Political speech costs money.

    Money IS speech.

Obama is a hypocrite. All politicians who complain about “special interests” are hypocrites.

Every politician has “special interest” groups that support that politician.

Every politician has “special interest” groups that oppose that politician.

Any politician who wants new rules and regulations concerning “campaign finance” is only trying to benefit one party or cause at the political expense of the opposition.

As long as the campaign has a public list of who the donors are this is not a problem. If you are running for public office then everyone should know where your financial support comes from.

The real change needed would be to limit political donations to individuals.

Who was it that suggested they wear patches representing their donors on their clothes (like NASCAR drivers)? Would make it easier to see who bought them, don’t you think?
