Paul - Iran does not have a history of invading and occupying its neighbors. Israel does. Iran did not come into existence as a place for Europeans who were expelled from Europe by siezing land that was already occupied. Israel did come into existence that way.

I support Israel's existence - that cannot and should not be changed. However, that should be in what have become its recognized borders - the green line. Israel is unwilling to do that, demanding to be allowed to annex large swaths of the West Bank. Israel's idea of a "Palestinian Homeland" consists of a series of 'Cantons' suounded and controlled by Israel. That is the same system used by South Africa for the homalands for blacks. They then have zero rights of self-determination.

That is the "moderate" position in Israel. The extremists there - and there are many - want the complete ethnic cleansing of "Judea and Samaria" and to sieze the land that they covet. It is these extremists who are the "Settlers" and who consider themselves to ALL be soldiers of Zion. And it is those extremists who currently rule over the Palestinians in the West Bank - backed up by the IDF. The so-called Abbas government is prohibited from ruling anything.

Paul - if a country is prohibited from having the capability to defend itself what is to prevent an attack? Since you believe the US has a right to demand that unilateral disarmament will you go along with the US taking on the responsibility to defend that disarmed country? You may recall that Iran WAS attacked not so very long ago - by a US client state. And the US participated in that attack by shooting down a civilian airliner.

Israel will not use Nukes on foreign powers simply to solve a problem at home.
Iran might.
Israel is not run by fanatics.
Iran is.
Some countries can be trusted with nukes.
Some can't.

And, YES, the United States not only has the right to decide such things, but a duty to stop countries that can not be trusted with nukes.

BTH, I was thinking the same thing, there has been far too much focus on the welfare of Israel.
All this talk of Iran getting Nuclear weapons yet it is estimated that Israel already has twenty five of them!
If the goal is to stop Nuclear proliferation, where is the drive and finger pointing towards Israel?
The focus on Israel is not healthy for the U.S. to have when we have our own problems and are the target of those wishing this country’s end. WE can not be the attack dog of another country, help defended them yes but not do their fighting for them. Nor should we be in the fate of the villager to feed a vampire our life’s blood. That is the thoughts of some in the pro-Israel lobby.

How about a pro-USA Vice President?

When JFK ran for president the question raised was whether he would put the Vatican's interests ahead of US interests. Now I suppose a similar question could be asked of Brownback - will he place Tel Aviv's interests ahead of US interests?

"Political_mama" --

Didn't Pope <strike>No Longer a Hitler Youth</strike> Benedict reinstate the "convert or die" part of Mass just recently?

At any rate, you can be sure Sam's Opus Dei connection -- really <strike>crazy</strike> conservative Catholics -- embraces the "Jews killed Jesus" theology.
