‘The Boss’ picks Obama

springsteenJust when Barack Obama needed a boost among working-class voters bitter over his “bitter” statement, he picked up the endorsement of none other than the working class’s troubadour in chief. Obama “has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next president. He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years,” Bruce Springsteen wrote on his Web site.

Sounds like Springsteen knows A Good Man is Hard to Find and thinks Obama was Born to Run. But clearly the Boss is past his Glory Days and is Looking for a Reason to Believe. He is an idealist and thinks he can find Paradise in the Badlands, but really he is just Dancing in the Dark, with a Jersey Girl.

You see Bruce, like anyone else Born in the USA can freely state his opinion. But he has to know that John McCain will Walk Like a Man and there will be No Surrender because he is Tougher than the Rest. But he may need some Spare Parts eventually.

Springsteen is going with A Roll of the Dice by supporting Obama. That may work out in Lucky Town, but will it work out in the Real World?

I would not consider this a credible endorsement.

“none other than the working class’s troubadour in chief.”

Never really cared much for Springsteen or his music. He SINGS about working. The songs ARE socially relevant. But they are in the end, just songs.

I can sing “I’ve been workin’ on the railroad”. But it wouldn’t make me a gandy dancer or fireman.

And when did Obama ever have to work FOR the very Republican scum he wants to work WITH?

Never cared that much for Springsteen or his music and care considerable less what he thinks politically.
    His is a meaningless endorsement.
Entertainers should pretty much stick with entertaining and keep quiet otherwise. They have no better, and probably less, of an informed opinion that most.

Brilliant, george. But then again, what would one expect from a bushbot.

Just songs JR? You would now like to see all entertainers run off as being irrelevant? Music has been a form of political expression for centuries. It started revolutions (think Beatles) in society. Music is something to be enjoyed, and the artists so gifted along with it.

And The Boss has been a big part of the music industry, as well as a social commentator. Look at what Bono’s doing about aids in Africa. He has pretty much single handedly seen to it aids victims are getting much needed medicine.

Much more than songs, JR, much more.

Hillary Clinton On Working Class Whites In 1995: “Screw ‘Em”

During the past week, Sen. Hillary Clinton has presented herself as a working class populist, the politician in touch with small town sentiments, compared to the elitism of her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama.

But a telling anecdote from her husband’s administration shows Hillary Clinton’s attitudes about the “lunch-bucket Democrats” are not exactly pristine.

In January 1995, as the Clintons were licking their wounds from the 1994 congressional elections, a debate emerged at a retreat at Camp David. Should the administration make overtures to working class white southerners who had all but forsaken the Democratic Party? The then-first lady took a less than inclusive approach.

“Screw ‘em,” she told her husband. “You don’t owe them a thing, Bill. They’re doing nothing for you; you don’t have to do anything for them.”

The statement — which author Benjamin Barber witnessed and wrote about in his book, “The Truth of Power: Intellectual Affairs in the Clinton White House” — was prompted by another speaker raising the difficulties of reaching “Reagan Democrats.” It stands in stark contrast to the attitude the New York Democrat has recently taken on the campaign trail, in which she has presented herself as the one who candidate who understands the working-class needs. ……(more)

BTW, the ABC “debate” was so badly moderated by the song-and-dance team of Charlie Gibson and former TeamClinton George Snuffalupagus that the audience actually booed and heckled them.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/16/abc-hosts-heckled-after-d_n_97124.html

The first half of the debate was nothing but “how do you respond to what the other candidate said?”

    Pure tabloid crap.

Off camera, the crowd let its displeasure be felt. Watch it at the link above.

HARDLY! I implied no such thing.

Artists of various sorts are some of the BEST spokespersons.

Most of them come from the humblest of beginnings and have not forgotten that.

But I am not convinced that Obama is similarly minded.

Hey I only go by his own words.

Too, I have noted an arrogance among his supporters.

Well we learned that Charlie Gibson is a Republican.

And for the FIRST time, Obama was actually asked questions instead of lobbed softballs and pillows.

Because Springsteen ‘plays’ to the blue-collar demographic I would expect his endorsement to carry some weight.

“Danny Federici of E Street Band dies at 58″

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24192346/

“NEW YORK - Danny Federici, the longtime keyboard player for Bruce Springsteen whose stylish work helped define the E Street Band’s sound on hits from “Hungry Heart” through “The Rising,” died Thursday.”
