Veterans’ highway bill hasn’t had much company

kshighwayWhen Gov. Kathleen Sebelius signed two bills last week before vetoing the energy bill, it brought the signed bills for the session to a grand total of nine. That compares with 17 signed bills last year at about the same time and 24 in 2006. One of those signed last week at least served the fine cause of designating parts of seven highways to honor veterans of the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War II, Korean War, Persian Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. “These designations will remind all those who visit our state of the courage and sacrifice of our veterans,” Sebelius said in a statement.

Red states vs. blue states? Kansas turning purple?

Not until the voters of this state throw out the republican legislators. When the kansas legislature changes leadership and actually does their job, we’ll know the voters have finally seen the light.

But right now? It’s pretty dark in Topeka. Throw the bums out. No incumbents.

I’d love to see a Seachange but I doubt the electorate is bright enough to create one.

and it should be done, the soldier is a unique person he forfeits most of his rights to go where most would run from. To fight and if it is to be forfeits his life for a reason he might not even understand nor agree with.
But puts his reason and thought aside to defend others from having to suffer his fate. A country can be wrong, but a soldier is doing the right thing and must always be held in honor for his selflessness.

Nothing I have seen or had happen yesterday or fifty years ago has change that belief in the American soldier. I held it before my son joined up and will even if he dies in some foreign God forsaken land.
I will rail at the reasons and those who will have sent him to Iraq, but he and those he serves with receive only what is their due from me. It is the least I can do for such individuals and such people and noble goals should be remembered. Not the war for all wars have their faults and wrongs, that is what makes them wars. And something that should be avoided if it can be done. But it is the soldier that should be remembered and honored.

And now we have that dumbbell from the KC area trying to shut down all the sex shops, etc.

My heavens, those Comstocky folks love to stick their noses into other people’s business. Every generation, there is another one who thinks he/she has to keep an eye on those heathen, sexual (gasp!!) masses.

More to the meant topic, there are many things that are standing in the way of being an effective governing body. Partisanship where the end goal is not what is best for the State but what is best for the party and to not allow the other party to gain good news. Another is agenda driven reps, like the Religious right whom care only about furthering their own agenda then the welfare and what is of the people as a whole.

They sure put most of those highways in heavily traveled areas, didn’t they?
Why do they hate our veterans?

BTW, why no open thread today?
