Sarah,

Your first post: You are correct. Dollars are based upon readers. With the content herein, any passers-by or new readers would quickly skip on down the road.

Your second post: Agreed. Paper isn't selling. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Check the McClatchy Company financial report. Not doing so good. But it only reflects what is happening throughout the industry.

In fact, a cursory search of kansas.com at www.alexa.com revealed that 2 percent of users who use the kansas.com site hit the forums. One wonders why newspapers even bother to offer forums.

It's not the number of posters American Way; it's the number of readers. If you post 10,000 times a day it doesn not increase readership.

Phillip Brownlee: Please review today's open thread.
If you are gaining advertising dollars based upon the total number of posts alone, you are probably going to maintain a second class newspaper blog.

If you are looking at the number of individual posters, you are less than second class.

Look at the content of the posts on this open blog and please consider moderation.

The elementary school posting herein are not worthy of intelligent people posting nor contributing to your revenue statement. You are providing at some cost a website for children.

Without moderation, you can never hope to become worldclass and certainly not worthy of spending advertising dollars on.

"Everybody take note… James refuses to give a Yes or No answer as to whether he served in NAM or NAM ERA"

What I am taking note of Chas, is that you and your fellow nitwit trolls (JR, WS Clark, and CapnAmerica) have wasted an entire day of the Open Thread attacking and beating up Regular.

Over and over again, asking a personal question to a poster who has answered all he is going to answer.

No Opinion.
No new ideas.
No new communcations.

Just wasted space.

And you Chas, an "ordained minster" say you are LMFAO over this?

The weblog needs to shut this place down.

Wasted space all day long.

Think you're right Nathan, there were a lot of bronze stars handed out back then, perhaps that where I saw the V.

Life was pretty fuzzy for me back then, everything seemed a blur and like it had already happened, but had yet to experience it.

Deja Vu I guess occurs a lot to those in harm's way.

Fear maybe? dunno...

Regular,

We don't use the oak leaf cluster like they did in the Army during your time. All services use the silver or bronze star now to show multiple awards.

Depending on it being silver or bronze it would denote multiple awards.

Times up! ;)

Some people got the bronze service star instead of the Oak Leaf Cluster, don't know why the change or the significance.

from a medal website: the Description:

Criteria: a. The National Defense Service Medal was awarded for honorable active service for any period between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954; between 1 January 1961 and 14 August 1974; between 2 August 1990 and 30 November 1995 and between 11 September 2001 and a closing date to be determined.

Since I didn't serve During the Korea War or after 2001, it should be easy to figure out when I served. :)

Freebird,

If you left being a Conservative because of the way people act then you probably never were a conservative to begin with.

Being a conservative is a matter of principle and policy.

People come in all different shapes, sizes and attitudes.

If you gave up your principles which you claim to have had simply because of some attitudes then you are one fickle person.

Alright... so you might not really be Chas. So what?

You always seem to post like Chas, you seem to always post at those times Chas is conveinently gone, and you are here defending Chas with the same verbage Chas was using.

You really might not be Chas. You basically post like him so what does it matter if you say you are not him?

Might as well be his identical twin.

Regular, thank you for reminding me on a daily basis why I left the conservative side of politics, its people like you with their name calling and refusal to give a straight answer that has this country in the condition that is in,and before you ask I did serve in the National Guard from 1972-78,couldn't get a defferment and had a low draft number.

Regular, you must have all kinds of delusional thinking. You keep lying all the time calling me somebody other than who I am. I dont follow the JR saga, or Chas. But I did read the obituary post, and do not recall that it came before, during, or after anything that was even about you, or who you are. Frankly, I dont give a good damn who you are, except that you are a constant disruptor on this Blog, and the entire Blog would be better off without you and several others hanging around for the sole purpose of causing disruptions.

And thats all I am going to ssay about you or your dopey little friends, or this obituary post, that was merely an attempt to lift up the good things that young people do, instead of always concentrating on the stupid things young people do.

If you and your friends cant handle that sort of thing, just get over it, or go find some hate filled Blog where you would obviously feel more at home.

Shut up square peg/Chas...

You know you posted that right after JR said he couldn't find anything on me and the first words of that post are quite telling.

What a trolling liar Chas is.

Don't deny you're not square peg Chas. Everyone on the blog knows it's you. Just fess up and deal with it.

I don't if a poster who you claim you don't even know would give a rat's ass about you and sure the heck wouldn't write long paragraphs defending you.

So Chas, park your pork butt back down and hang your head in shame for trolling.

Sol, you must have missed how many times Chas. did in fact, mention the wonderful vision of the young man who died, for signing an organ donor card, that saved the lives of several people. I dont remember if it was four or five. You obviously missed that.

As for concentrating on what came through as bold, are you saying that there are no glitches in computer programs? It is a known fact here, at least, that the WE is currently doing some repair and maintenance work on the Blog.

Apparently since you are not local, you must not know that either.

As for all the fuss you and a few others, who want to make mockery of that family, you keep whining about who the father is/was. It was not your "Regular" as he posted at least twice that the obituary had nothing to do with him or his family.

I would highly suggest that if you want to make some comment on the obituary, you try to stick to the main point of the post. This boy, 20 years old, had more foresight than many adults 3 times his age, for thinking about the future lives of those other than himself. And as the obituary pointed out very clearly, the boys organ dontions saved lives.

If you have a problem with organ donor cards, then go for it, but if you are against such as that, it speaks much of your view of human life!

I will say no more about this. I suggest you and your little friends do the same. You are beating the dead equine into the turf.
