McCain the biggest winner Tuesday

mccaintxwin.jpgJohn McCain was the big winner in Tuesday’s primaries. He clinched the GOP nomination, and Mike Huckabee finally conceded. Plus, the Democratic nomination battle continues, which helps McCain by costing his opponents time and money. On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton’s big win in Ohio and an apparent split decision in the Texas primary and caucuses gave her campaign a big momentum boost. However, it didn’t change the math. Clinton’s wins did little to close Barack Obama’s delegate lead.

John McCain’s Foriegn Policy: This is your New Vocabulary in the Dictionary:

Rule # 1: In the Middle East, it is always the Arabs that attack first, and it’s always Israel who defends itself. This is called “Retaliation”.

Rule # 2: The Arabs, whether Palestinians or Lebanese, are not allowed to kill Israelis, either soldiers or civilians. This is called “Terrorism”.

Rule # 3: Israel has the right to kill Arab civilians, this is called “Self-Defense”, or, if the dead Arabs are by the hundreds, “Collateral Damage”.

Rule # 4: When Israel kills too many civilians. The Western world calls for restraint. This is called the “Reaction of the International Community”.

Rule # 5: Palestinians and Lebanese do not have the right to capture Israeli military, not even a limited number, not even 1. This is called “Kidnapping”.

Rule # 6: Israel has the right to capture as many Palestinians as they want (Palestinians: around 10000 to date, 300 of which are children, Lebanese: 1000 to date, being held without trial). There is no limit; there is no need for proof of guilt or trial. This is called “War on Terrorism”.

Rule # 7: When you say “Hezbollah”, always be sure to add “supported by Syria and Iran “. this is called: “Axis of Evil”.

Rule # 8: When you say ” Israel “, never say “supported by the USA , the UK and other European countries”, for people (God forbid) might believe this is not an equal conflict. This is called “Helping our Friends”.

Rule # 9: When it comes to Israel , don’t mention the words “occupied territories”, “UN resolutions”, ” Geneva conventions”. This could distress the audience and is called “Anti-Semitism”.

  9. Posted March 5, 2008 at 11:28 am | Permalink

Rule #10: Israel has done more with it’s society and government in progressing to modern age technology, successful economy and a Democratic government than the Palestinians have in the last 2000 years.

In fact, the Palestinians are still stuck in the stone age as they use the ‘tribal model’ (AKA - terrorist groups) to terrorize their own people and others.

The Palestinians are their own worst enemy.

Hamas doesn’t want any peace; conflict keeps them in power and the money (and weapons) flowing from their Syrian and Iranian sponsors. There is, of course, only one necessary precondition to peace in the Arab/Israeli conflict: Hamas, Hezbollah, the Arab states, etc. have to recognize Israel’s right to exist in peace, and mean it. Once that is done, everything else is negotiable, and a deal, including an independent Palestian state, is reachable.

That, of course, is the sticking point; Hamas etc. will never agree to same. Doing so would undercut their reason for existance, their power base, and the flow of their goodies.

As usual, principle is only the fig leaf conveniently hidden behind as they seek to keep power and money.

And yes, Friedrick (I thought a good nazi-sounding name was appropriate), I know that for Israel there are similar incentives. The difference, of course, is that the Israelis don’t strap bombs to their children and intentionally attack women and babies. It is Israeli towns who are being attacked by Hamas rockets (supplied by Iran). Hamas knows how to play the game: attack Israeli towns (launching from inside your their own towns, hiding behind women and children, of course), provoke the inevitable and understandable response from the Israelis as they try to stop the attacks, and play the victim with the world media. And much of the world media is sucker enough to buy into it. As are you.

AS TO THE SUBJECT AT HAND: The big winner is US!! When’s the last time a convention went past the first ballot? When the hoopla actually meant something? Enjoy, folks, we may get to watch something historic.

Way to go, HIllary. Now, let’s keep this virtual tie going all the way to the convention. Wouldn’t you like to be a fly on Howard Dean’s wall? A race in near-deadlock, a looming brokered convention, “superdelegates” who, it turns out, are not that “super” at all (if they are to just follow the popular vote, why have them at all?). The Clinton campaign is trying to change the rules in the middle of the game (what a surprise!) regarding what to do with Michigan and Florida . . .

Right. They just run over homes, people, and anything else in their way with bulldozers. They basically put their enemy in their own version of the Warsaw ghetto.

If you think Israel is clean of misdeeds, you’re a bigot. Both sides continuously go beyond the bounds of humanity. Is it any wonder Israel is as modern as it is? Thanks to U.S. funding a country with a long list of U.N. sanctions, Israel has everything it needs and wants, including nuclear.

Good job avoiding my question about John McCain’s embrace of a raging anti-Semite, and why this doesn’t tarnish his reputation the way that Farrakahn’s unsolicited endorsement seems to have tarnished Obama’s.

Oh, and one more thing: I’m a Jew. Don’t try to dictate to me the proper or correct take on the actions of the Israeli state, thanks.

By your fractured logic, GMC70, the Labor Party counts as anti-Semitic because they advocate dealing with Hamas. I understand perfectly well Hamas’ tactics, but I also am willing to affirm the ability of the Israeli government to engage in unprovoked aggression against Palestianians.
That’s more than I can say for what appears to be your unconditional willingness to turn a blind eye (in this and in so many other things, GMC70) to Israeli-perpetrated acts of state terror.

The Labor Party eh CF2K. Let’s see, Ehud Barak is very high in the Labor Party, let’s see what he has to say about Hamas.

“Defense Minister Ehud Barak said during a closed-door meeting with aides yesterday in Jerusalem that Israel has begun preparing “the international community” — foreign officials involved in negotiations with the Palestinian Arabs, including a former British prime minister, Tony Blair — for a “large ground operation” in Gaza, several Israeli press outlets reported.

“If there is one more fatality, Israel may have to go in,” a Western diplomat who asked not to be named said. Since the killing Wednesday of Roni Yihye by a rocket from Gaza — the first such Israeli fatality in several months — a growing number of Israeli officials, opinion makers, and politicians have searched for ways to counter the increasing accuracy and range of the Palestinian Arab rockets.

“This is not an easy decision, but it may be necessary. We have to break the Hamas military power,” a former Israeli deputy defense minister, Ephraim Sneh, told The New York

Regardless, the idea that you end conflicts by not talking to your enemies doesn’t seem to have worked terribly well up to now, does it, GMC70? Hamas is in a strong position, and all the Bushite/Likudnik temper tantrums in the world won’t change that.

I said you didn’t understand my position, and you manifestly don’t. Truth is an absolute defense, GMC70: if you don’t want to be called ignorant, don’t pretend to understand my position unless you deal with its specifics.

Still haven’t answered the question about John McCain’s anti-Semitic pals, I see. Is anti-Semitism, GMC70, something that only the Left can be accused of? There are 6 million murdered Jews who might beg to differ, victims, as they were, of RIGHT-WING anti-Semitism.

    GMC70,

And to take it a step further, what precipitated the rise of Hamas in the first place? What else, but the Sharon government’s discrediting of Fatah? As Henry Siegman wrote back in 2002,

“Is there a justification for an Israeli policy that remains fixated on detestation of Yasser Arafat and deliberately ignores major changes within Fatah and the Palestinian population, withholding any action that might help these constructive forces achieve dominance? In fact, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has resorted to measures that undercut Palestinians who seek to abandon violence and resume a political dialogue.”

    http://www.iht.com/articles/2002/09/25/edhenry_ed3_.php

By doing everything it could to destroy the legitimacy of the Palestinian authority, the Likudniks guaranteed the rise of a more militant opponent. This, it seems to me, is what they wanted all along: a pretext for total war against the Palestinians.

That they now, belatedly, realize their error in having empowered Hamas as a client organization of Syria and Iran, is apparent from the attempts of their patrons in the Bush Administration to foment factional war in Gaza, and to re-empower Fatah.

“Vanity Fair has obtained confidential documents, since corroborated by sources in the U.S. and Palestine, which lay bare a covert initiative, approved by Bush and implemented by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Deputy National Security Adviser Elliott Abrams, to provoke a Palestinian civil war. The plan was for forces led by Dahlan, and armed with new weapons supplied at America’s behest, to give Fatah the muscle it needed to remove the democratically elected Hamas-led government from power. (The State Department declined to comment.)

But the secret plan backfired, resulting in a further setback for American foreign policy under Bush. Instead of driving its enemies out of power, the U.S.-backed Fatah fighters inadvertently provoked Hamas to seize total control of Gaza.”

    http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/04/gaza200804

In other words, GMC70, you completely misunderstand the nature of what brought us to this point, and the ‘enemy of my enemy is my friend’ game that Likud and its backers in the Bush Administration have been playing.

That you cannot concede this historical Bushite/Likudnik backstory, whereas I CAN concede Hamas’ tactics and disingenuousness, suggests that I am in the stronger argumentative position, both with regard to historical accuracy and argumentative consistency.
