Let them get in state tuition in their own country. Let's give them a house to, how about a car, and let's fund their retirement accounts. Or maybe, we can save some bucks and round them up and send them home.

Chas, a fallacy is a deceptive argument. I have not expressed a deceptive argument. I have expressed a reality. The law is that reality. The law is not a deceptive argument.

Why should illegal children be allowed to stay in the USA just because they had the good fortune of having been raised in the USA? And raised by parents who snuck into the USA and hid the family from the law for at least 3 years? Is that fair to everyone else who followed the law?

Institutions of higher learning operate under the laws of the state and the nation. Under those laws those institutions must plan each year for a certain number of students to attend the institution. That certain number is the number of "seats" or "spots" available for students. And that certain number, the legal capacity of the institution, is reserved for citizens (and legal residents, for that matter). That legal
capacity is even fleshed out by local fire codes restricting the legal number of occupants in a classroom.

Now then, all other things being equal, if an illegal alien is accepted due to an SAT score that is one point higher than a citizen, that means that a citizen cannot take a spot reserved
for citizens. The citizen is disenfranchised. Yet, if the law were followed, the citizen would gain that spot. Is it fair that the citizen is disenfranchised?

"Now, HOW in God’s Green Earth can you insinuate that the taxpayers are paying for their education???"

In using concise language, I stated that state and federal dollars pay for "some portion" of each spot. Not the entire spot, but "some portion". Please notice that I expressed my
thoughts in concise language: "some portion". Concise language should not be confused with deceptive argument.

If you take a look at how state colleges and universities are funded, you will see that state and federal dollars pay "some portion" of fixed costs and operating costs. Fixed costs entail building and infrastructure costs. Operating costs entail maintenance and administrative costs. These are costs that must be paid just to keep the institution open for business. These are costs paid by taxpayers and run into the 100s of millions of dollars in Kansas each year. For example:

Actual Expenditures FY 2004 (in $ millions)

WSU *** KU **** KSU
173.2 * 522.9 * 401.6 All Funds
63.5 * 132.0 * 101.7 State General Fund

http://webs.wichita.edu/depttools/depttoolsmemberfiles/SelfStudy/Minutes_March_11_Meeting.doc
(Microsoft Word Doc)

So yes, taxpayers pay "some portion" of each spot reserved for citizens (and legal residents, for that matter).

Illegal aliens should not even be allowed to enroll in colleges. Why would they need an education, if they are using forged driver's licenses and fake social security numbers? They can't get a good job that way, nor should they.

From the header:

"<i>Under the 2004 law</i>, children of illegal immigrants are eligible to pay in-state tuition if they have lived in Kansas for at least three years, graduated from a Kansas high school and are on the path toward citizenship."

RS says:

"Everything boils down to one simple question.

"Are we going to <i>enforce our laws or not</i>???

"If so, let’s do it.

"If not, <i>why are we wasting all this money in Washington and 50 state capitals making laws?</i>

"Sorry if I simplified the issue beyond any one’s comprehension."

I think I comprehend it pretty well. The question is, do you?

Everything boils down to one simple question.

Are we going to enforce our laws or not???

If so, let's do it.

If not, why are we wasting all this money in Washington and 50 state capitals making laws?

sorry if I simplified the issue beyond any one's comprehension.

"Jed: I do indeed deny that there is Hispanic hatred going around. I can only speak for my part of the world, but I can truly say it doesn’t exist in my area. Now hatred for people who are here illegally is altogether a different thing; but it is a multi-national thing, and not directed toward Hispanics. Perhaps it seems that way because there are more illegal Hispanics than most other races.

"Americans are truly fed up with illegal immigrants in the country and are ready to rise up en masse against the issue. I think it would have happened already but for the upcoming election. There is a wait-and-see attitude right now to see if there are enough new people elected to put it down."

Followed immediately by:

"This is a large part of the problem:

'Pew Research released a report recently that shows the American population will increase from 296 million in 2005 to 438 million in 2050. “Of the 117 million people added … 67 million will be the immigrants themselves and 50 million will be their U.S.-born children or grandchildren. And 29 percent of the U.S. population in 2050 will be Latino, compared to the current 15 percent. Factor in African-Americans, Asians, and others nationalities, Caucasian Americans are predicted to become a minority population.'"

Cerebral inertia. Remarkable.

Or are you saying that you are OK with "caucasian Americans" becoming a minority if it is due to LEGAL immigration? Why is this second post, with the quote from the Pew Center, even relevant to this discussion, according to the first point you made (that you have no problem with Hispanics)?

I think you just made Jed's point for him. WTG.

Can we expect the poorest of actual American citizen's getting the same educational benefits? No. There's always going to be some moron who wants to equate questions like this as "rascist" or "bigotry". And those same moron's are the ones we can blame for the loss of "our way of life".

How many of those polled, do you suppose were illegals?
I wonder how they answered????
Wake up people, we are being overrun!

Why should we pay for illegals?
AMERICAN's don't get a break.
And now the school board wants a bond...
Deport the illegals and we won't be over crowded and need a new bond for public schools.
Keep track of the suppoters and vote them out!
Save AMERICA before it is filthy and rundown like mexico.

Where do I get my observation?
For starters, the people who call my talk show. The ones against this bill:
1) Never seem to know anyone who has benefited from this legislation (I know several);
2) Never seem to have had any college themselves (okay, Kris Kobach has been on with Phil a few times).

Billyjack... here is my challenge to your fallacy... Yes, technically, the children of illegals are illegal, unless born here... BUT... The distinction I and others are making is this: Those children of illegals did not arrive here ON THEIR OWN.... They did not come because they WANTED to come... They were brought here as MINOR CHILDREN... Now, if those Minor Children have lived here all their lives... or lets say a good 15 years of their lives... And they want to attend University in Kansas... why shouldnt they get the same tuition as my children or yours???

Secondly, you are assuming that the child of an illegal will take the Place of a native born American student... That is pure fallacy... They have to pass entrance exams, like SAT and ACT the same as any other student... AND... they must somehow PAY TUITION.... at whatever rate... Now, if they have NO documentation, and NO legal papers, then they are ineligible to get grants, or scholarships... especially federal grants.... or even student loans!!

Now, HOW in God's Green Earth can you insinuate that the taxpayers are paying for their education???

Try explaining that for starters!! If you can!

Secondly, you are assuming that the child of an illegal will take the Place of a native born American student… That is pure fallacy… They have to pass entrance exams, like SAT and ACT the same as any other student… AND… they must somehow PAY TUITION…. at whatever rate… Now, if they have NO documentation, and NO legal papers, then they are ineligible to get grants, or scholarships… especially federal grants…. or even student loans!!

Now, HOW in God’s Green Earth can you insinuate that the taxpayers are paying for their education???

Try explaining that for starters!! If you can!

As for the apology to the American Indian, I was challenging you to stop wasting your time on relatively unimportant issues such as illegal immigration and get down to the important matter of advocating for the truly victimized in the nation: the American Indian.

By your reply, you appear to have rejected the challenge.

If that is the case, you should rethink your position. If I have misunderstood you, and you have accepted the challenge, I wish you the best in contemplating how best to advocate for the truly victimized in the nation.

Chas, my brother, you are galloping way too fast to hear what I am saying. I would urge you to slow down to a gentle trot so that we can calmly hear each other out, now that we have started a conversation.

Please read carefully, because I do my best to never waste words. I calmly offered my solution to give people the opportunity to think more deeply about what's going on here with this issue. It had nothing to do with whether or not you are almost 1/2 Native American.

Someone who supports an illegal child of an illegal alien is supporting an illegal alien. An illegal child is also an illegal alien. You can't just jump ahead to "the child is now a citizen since they have a college degree, pay taxes, and have actually become a citizen of the USA after going through the naturalization process for about the past 10 years". No, you have to look at the illegal child as an illegal alien when they start applying for a spot in the US higher education system. And yes, "illegal alien" is the proper legal term for such persons according to US law...

An illegal alien who takes a spot at any institution of higher learning in the USA is taking a spot away from a citizen of the USA. State and federal dollars pay for some portion of
that spot. So, instead of having every taxpayer pay for some portion of that spot, it would seem reasonable for the supporters of illegals to be the ones who chip in to pay for that portion.

And then, of course, there are those people on here who want to see the USA open wide to any and all comers, illegals not excepted. Those people on here should be willing to chip in for increased emergency care costs, infrastructure expansion, higher gas prices due to increased demand, etc. to accommodate illegals, since those people are the ones who want the illegals to come here in spite of existing law.

Do you think that my reasoning is off base here, Chas? Are there any questions you had that I have not sufficiently answered?
