Yes, we can? Not according to McCain video

Barack Obama is getting great publicity with the “Yes We Can” YouTube video fronted by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. It’s been viewed more than 7 million times since it was posted last week, and it didn’t cost Obama a dime. But leave it to the Barelypolitical people (who did the Obama Girl videos) to respond with a John McCain parody, “No, You Can’t.”

If you haven’t seen these videos, do so now! Yes, the second is a parody of the first, but there’s truth in parodies. Judge for yourself.

“Thanks for the question, you little jerk.”

If I were McCain, I wouldn’t be a-calling any one “little.”

Obama girl didn’t even vote in the election. She said so herself.

Again no substance, although I agree the differences between the videos are startling.

Where’s the beef Obama? YES YOU CAN give something more than Dr. Feelgood soundbytes.

WOW! Powerful Obama video. There is one thing no one can doubt — that man knows how to reach out to people, how to campaign for political office, how to read the mood of our country.

Even McCain’s voice sounds old, and that’s before you compare his message to the better one.

Obama is a better orator and politician over Hillary. Hillary knows more policy and what it would take to clean the current mess. The two would be an unbeatable combination. They would defeat the “little jerk” McCain by a two to one margin.

Steven – I agree wholeheartedly with you, and I truly hope that it will work out that way. Not only would they be an unbeatable ticket, but it would solidify and unify the Democrats in a way that neither Clinton nor Obama can do on their own.

I third that Steven and TDT! If they could do that for America it would raise the stature of both in my opinion – make them seem more like patriots than politicians.

American’s have had as much hopelessness as we can handle. I think that’s why Obama is meeting such success. We need his message of hope for change. Positive attitudes can make a change! He is being the little engine that could.

What it is, is a lot of pre-packaged BS, including the $50 an hour to pick lettuce. But just what you would expect from the left.

I recall the appearance i which McCain made that comment, in support of immigrant workers doing jobs Americans won’t do. His point was; how many Americans would work in the lettuce fields, for even $50 an hour? Yet the Mexicans are doing it for $whatever.

It was funny to see those kids in the video raising their hands for the $50 lettuce picking jobs, when they would last maybe a couple of hours before calling for their mommies.

    Outlander,

Who picked vegetables and fruits before the Mexican legals and illegals did it?

McCain made a point, but it wasn’t the point he meant to make. If you can’t see that, open your eyes.

Do you think Mexicans are going to continue to pick fruit? Or will they and their offspring want more? And if they move up the ladder and find a better job for better wages (American Dream?), do we just let in a whole batch of new Mexicans to do it, who will, in time, want more?

And outlander knows this because he used to pick cotton or something?

Who gets up at 2 AM to empty the 55 foot trailers at the UPS site? Who bails hay in Indiana? Who smooths cement footings with a carborundum block? Who busts up sidewalks with a jack-hammer?

Those are all pretty hard jobs and I’ve done every one of them for pay. And so did my white American friends.

I’ve done it too Capn. Bucking bales, loading trucks, driving tractors, etc… But the younger generation’s work ethic isn’t the same. There are some sure , but I guarantee it wasn’t those in the anti-McCain commercial. I could tell, couldn’t you?
Those weren’t lettuce pickers for any wage.

But that wasn’t the main point.

Sorry for the above; Obama prevailed over Clinton by a percentage of 62 to 37. This is a projected win, I am pretty sure.

I will be interesting to see what happens in D.C. tonight.

“Clinton holds a 1,147 to 1,124 delegate lead over Obama — a sum that includes not only pledged delegates but also superdelegates, a group of roughly 800 elected officials and other party establishment figures.”

    From the link above.

Polls are showing that both Maryland and D.C. will go with Obama. I think this will be the night Obama overtakes Clinton.

    I didn’t bother with video 1

    The second one is good.

Hey outlander? Fifty bucks an hour sounds damn good to me. And a whole lot easier than most work I’ve ever done. And you DON’T get to blame those kids for what McCain said. He said picking lettuce paid 50 bucks an hour and implied that Americans were too lazy to do it. He is either BADLY out of touch or just plain insulting of his fellow American.

I thought the idea on the picking lettuce, was that Yuma, AZ is a pretty hot and miserable place. And unsaid, if I am correct (and I am not sure I am), the type of work we need Mexican workers for.

That was McCain’s implied racism (if that is what is was, and I am not sure it was), not mine.

  25. Posted February 12, 2008 at 8:04 pm | Permalink

C’mon, there are still jobs picking lettuce for $50 an hour. You just have to be employed by Halliburton and receive one of McCain’s big government, never ending war contracts. McCain has no problem spending taxpayer money but he’d prefer spending that kind of money on killing Iraqis and raping American women.

I know, that comment was unfair, he’d like to kill Iranians too.

Where’s the beef Obama? YES YOU CAN give something more than Dr. Feelgood soundbytes.

Just a guess here, but it could be that YES YOU CAN is to get attention. Hillary has been in the limelight for how long? Obama only stepped into the light for the first time back in 2004. At least nationally.

YES YOU CAN is good branding. Anybody who knows even a smidgeon about marketing knows that a well-known brand gets attention. (Think JUST DO IT and WHERE’S THE BEEF ;) ) And it takes getting the attention of people before you can be heard. Seems like excellent marketing. Apparently, it’s working.

Obama has more than good branding. Michelle Obama (the real one, not the robocalls) called my 73 yr old mother and asked her to caucus for her husband. My mother and father did.

This campaign knows how to connect with people. I have been a skeptic about B.H. Obama, and I still am, but I must say they are masterful in campaigning – especially in caucus states.

Woweeee, from the looks of these primary election results there are a whole shit-pot of very smug white people out there voting for the “black dude”, whomever he may be. As long as its not a BOG (black old guard) such as Jackson or Sharpton.

Now we know where the old unreconstructed left went.

Now the rest of you had better not actually look at his voting record. Will scare the bejesus out of you. Chavez looks good, or perhaps one of the latter day Soviets. But I believe the best comparison is Obama to “Red” Ken Livingston , the Communist mayor of London, where he just instituted the 25 dollar per day car tax to take your car into London, and businesses pay 200 per day for their vehicles.

Get ready to hang on to your billfolds big time or hide your money better than usual.
