Take the terrorism highway. . . .

kshighwayNo one would quarrel with the idea of honoring fallen Kansas veterans of the most recent wars by naming one or more roadways for them. But is this the best name — War on Terrorism Veterans Memorial Highway? A bill that passed the House last week on a 107-10 vote would so designate K-156 from Larned to Garden City. The signs would be funded by private donations. State Rep. Doug Gatewood, D-Columbus, had suggested singling out a specific conflict, with a name such as the Operation Enduring Freedom Veterans Highway.

That is a stupid name. Especially since the MAIN war in Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism.

How about the “Bush Lied and They Died” highway? Or the “Republican War Monger Highway”? That would be more truthful!

Why not “The Iraq Debacle and We Let Bin Laden Go While Another Good Man Goes Down Tally Board Highway”?

    Hey, I got it…

    How about calling it:

    “Just Another War Memorial Highway??

    That could always be abbreviated:

    The J.A.W. Memorial Highway

    :-)

I dont think it is appropriate to use words like: Terror, Terrorist, Terrorism should appear in the name of a Highway, memorial, or otherwise!

Why is the Republic Party dominated Kansas Legislature dealing with such useless legislation?

Don’t they need to nam an “Official State Salamander” or something?

Money would be better spent creating a scholarship / grant fund for war vets and dependents —- also include firemen and police and their families …..

There all horrible names, lets honor our vetrans for christ sake, and not George F’n Bush, by naming it anything to do with terrorism, or Iraq. Why don’t they just name it the War on Freedom for Securities memorial then. Just make it about the vetrans, or let them decide what they want to call it.

Everyone will get lost on the winding, bumpy road! It must run in All directions and loop back on itself over and over!

Did the road also cost a couple Trillons to build? Will it be lined with crosses on the shoulders, with accompanying names? If so, I’m all for it!

Sounds like the Kansas legislature is fiddling while Rome burns. Just like the congress critters in DC.

Bush has shredded the constitution, committed multiple impeachable offenses, the economy is tanking, the environment is suffereing…

And Congress is investigating… wait for it…

We should just call it what it is–”A cosmetic attempt to make us look patriotic and everybody else look like communists” Highway.

20 years from now this will have the relevance of “Remember the Maine!”

The WOT Highway, It could easily be called the Waste Of Time Highway, will it also have a bridge called, Bridge to Nowhere?
Aren’t our legislatures cute, instead of sending their own blood to fight this stupid war, they’ll just name a highway, put a flag on their lapel, and order Freedom Fries for lunch!

Why not rename it “Illegal occupation of Iraq for the purpose of inflating the oil prices and securing billions in contracts highway”? At least then it will be an honest name. There is no need to provide a memorial to an illegal war where America committed numerous war crimes.

Honor veterans by providing them decent care when they return and upgrading facilities that care for them when they are wounded.

Honor veterans by returning to fiscal responsibility so their children and grandchildren are not saddled with a massive debt, in part, caused by this ill-conceived war.

Honor veterans for their service – don’t erect a monument to the worst foreign policy misadventure in the history of the United States.

Agreed Clark. If they REALLY gave a rat’s ass about veterans, they’d take care of them when they got home.

And NOT ask them to pay their signing bonus back if they are dicharged for disability.

I think, in part, I posted this before under another thread, but it seems appropriate. Defying a Conservative Government media ban on returning coffins from Afganistan (ala Bush) our media simply ignored the edict. Consequently on the overpasses of the highway exiting the receiving base, one will find people silently holding flags with cops, firefighters and vets saluting the passing entourage. Folks asked and got that section of that multi-lane highway be co-named to reflect the supreme sacrifice of the fallen Canadians who travel it. I must confess to be surprised that such an idea meets with resistance….

I figure it is about 120 miles from Larned to Garden City. So divide that by 4000 dead soldiers who will never see their families or enjoy a moment in the USA again. Then place a marker for each one of them along the route both ways that says “John Doe, pvt US Army, killed by Bush and Republicans”. That should be a sign about every 150 feet along the entire route. We should do it by election day so the red voters can see the signs as they drive to the polls to vote for the murderous liar Republicans!
