Rush acting like a liberal

rush.jpg“With their inflexibility, grudge-holding and eagerness to evict heretics rather than seek converts, too many of conservatism’s leaders sound like the custodians of a dwindling religious denomination or a politically correct English department at a fading liberal-arts college,” Ross Douthat, a senior editor for the Atlantic, wrote about Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, James Dobson and others who have gone apoplectic about John McCain.

“The tribunes of the American right have fallen into the same bad habits that doomed their liberal rivals to years of political failure,” Douthat wrote, accusing them of behaving “like caricatures of liberals, emphasizing a host of small-bore litmus tests that matter more to Beltway insiders than to the right-winger on the street.”

I wish (in no particular order) that Hannity, O’Reilly, Ingraham, Limbaugh, Medved, Savage, Coulter, Beck and the rest of the little Goebbels’ would take a short jump from a tall bridge. Goes for all of the left mouthpieces as well.

How does a liberal act? I know several and can’t think of an identifying characteristic they all share. Is it something that can be seen from a distance or do you have to be up close? What should I be looking for or paying attention to?

I thought those words painted a good picture. ‘Petty purists’ would work too.

    CARICATURE!!!!!

In no way does Rush look like a liberal – he simply typifies what happens when a died-in-the-wool right-wing extremists takes too many drugs.

Phil – your Right Wing is showing …

Or more likely a shameless McCain supporter who is aghast that anyone would even think about supporting a different candidate.

Compassion for our fellow man, comes to mind. Something the conservatives don’t, can’t or wont understand. So it comes as no surprise you can’t see.

As for rush: Maybe people are starting to see what a one trick pony he really is.

stumper, Since you’ve never recognized that I am a liberal, I ask again, how does a liberal act? I agree about the compassion for our fellow man but never have seen a need to toot my own horn so no one would have seen that part of me. I prefer to do what needs to be done and move on without any notice.

Could we agree on the conservative small bore litmus tests?

    *Right to life
*Cut taxes to stimulate the economy (even though this has been shown – spectacularly so by this administration – that such does not work to improve the economy)
    (see this book: http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=13)
*The U.S. is a nation built on Christian values
*Liberals hate America and will try to destroy it at every turn and must be villified for being the evil-doers that they are
    *Entitlements are sinking this country
*People in desperate financial states, just want it that way, so don’t bother to help them
*The mainstream media is liberal and they want to see a successful African American pro quarterback no matter what it costs (remember Rush’s job-ending stupidity?)
*Free markets always work best, if there needs to be a highway somewhere, some successful Republican will build a toll road
*Saddam did have weapons of mass destruction
    *Hillary did execute Vince Foster
*Bill Clinton is a serial rapist
*Hillary Clinton is a lesbian and a socialist
*Obama is a mole muslim determined to destroy America

I know I am forgeting some real gems!

Hey, guys help me out here, even I can only go on so long this way…

I think I need to go take a shower after that.

    “Rush acting like a liberal”

Aren’t you being a little tough on the guy Phillip?

Steven: As a slightly connected matter, the sports media is the most unabashedly liberal all of media. Witness Keith Olbermann. Limbaugh frankly did not fit in and was not wanted. But what he said that caused his dismissal was not racist. It was portrayed that way and since he was a conservative, the shoe fit. In reality he was accusing the sports media of being racist. He was being honest. They couldn’t have that.

Knowing that marketing firms are very good at identifying the demographics of, and advertising to an audience, and after listening to Rush’s show a few times, I’d say his audience consists mostly of Older, balding, impotent, white, men.

You can fool some of the people some of the time…..

I’m sorry, Steven. I understand what you are trying to do but I can’t go there. I am ashamed that WEBlog tried to put any discussion there. How stupid can a newspaper editor get!? Are there any number of dollars worth this? I’ll never think of Phillip Brownlee in the same way I did before this Stupidity.

“But what he said that caused his dismissal was not racist.”

    Really?

He said, paraphrasing, that Donovan McNabb wasn’t all that good, but it was just the media that wanted him to succeed because he is black.

Donovan McNabb isn’t all that good?

Four NFC Championship games in a row – one Super Bowl – God knows how many Pro Bowls.

    Ain’t that good?

Limbaugh has just pulling gooey crap out his fleetwood and passing it off as “Sports Commentary.”

Rush is just a horrible example of what happens when a fat boy gets bullied all his life.

Sorry Linda. I thought Phillip had a good point here. Those who seek ideological purity usually end up getting dumped on their asses. We should not be waiting until the Bush term is up, but rather we should send him home early from school – if you catch my metaphor there.

I didn’t really know how to respond to this when I first read it. It does seem like a honest to goodness attempt at the moderates to reign in their whackos. I’m seeing a lot of this lately. The problem with that is…WHY DID THEY NOT SPEAK UP SOONER????

They were fine with these whackos when it was helping push their agendas further. Now that it has gone too far (and it’s not like we didn’t warn them). The USA is finding the neocon movement is bad for the country. It has been for a long time now.

I’m glad to be coming back to the middle, but why did it have to get SO BAD before it finally happened.

And yet, they are the same people who are still hell bent on destroying the Clintons.

That would have been an excellent idea if the Congress under Bill Clinton hadn’t made that last resort a mockery. The whole system has become so convoluted we don’t even have the option of doing what’s right left to us. And to compare ANY political group to Rush is a total insult. Nothing less!

So, the Democratic Party was in the majority for how many years? A bunch? Then The Republican Party gains the majority for a shorter time, right? And, things get totally screwed up really fast. I know all that talk of swings, but this swing back to the Democratic Party happened quickly! Those Republicans lost control because they didn’t do much that earned them being kept in power. And, it really doesn’t matter how they gloss things over, they can’t keep the majority because they don’t deserve to be in control!

I’m not tickled with any of them to be truthful, but those who represent the Republican Party are in less favor because they don’t deserve anything more.

Did you see the hissy fit the Republicans members of The House threw today? They walked out because they couldn’t get more of our protected rights of privacy taken away for a longer period of time! They want to reauthorize the FOREIGN INTEL SURVEILLANCE ACT (FISA)! And, they want the telcommunication companies who were complicit in taking away our privacy to have immunity.

And, the saddest part is I don’t have confidence the Democratic Party members of The House will stand up for what is right!
