Obviously, Mitt Romney felt slighted by Bob Dole’s letter to Rush Limbaugh, in which he tried to shore up John McCain’s conservative credentials and prepare Rush for a McCain nomination. But why did Romney feel the need to call Dole “the last person I would have wanted to write a letter for me He went on to liken McCain to Dole as “the guy who’s next in line, the inevitable choice,†and later tried to make amends, calling Dole a “fine man and a great leader for our party.†But it should not have taken Romney two tries to show more respect for the grand old man of the Grand Old Party.

Romney reacted hasty and nastily to information he had only second hand. NOT Presidential timber.
I think he will hope for a miracle with the handful of primaries this Saturday. He has been nasty and will not be wanted by McCain or Huckabee.
Barring a miracle (it won’t happen) my bet is he will leave the race early next week.
And talk radio today with Romney’s shills should be HIGHLY entertaining!
SWEET!!!!!
;)
J R – if you listen to the extremists today let us know what they have to say.
:)
Folks
John McCain and Hillary Clinton have said far worse, before.
I worked my tail off for Bob Dole, when he was the nominee. He made me very proud, though his campaign just never took off. Dole picked Jack Kemp as a running mate.
Kemp is now advising McCain. That was the signal that I needed, and I thank McCain for trying to make peace, in his own way
McCain did not go to the “C-PAC” Convention last year. He deliberately hosted a “cocktail party” at the same time as the Coservative meeting.
McCain is GOING to the C-PAC meeting this year.
Again, thank you John McCain.
For the record, I agree with McCain, now, on Immigration. I have no problem with his plan, as long as we seal the border first.
Has immigration been a FLOP as a campaign issue? I am not sure. That is a question I am asking myself. However, those who tried to make it an issue did not do so well.
The issue always made me nervous. The Hispanic vote, among LEGAL voters, is growing. Many of them dont like “open borders” either.
However, if the “Right” opposes McCain, on Immigration alone, I will argue with them, on that issue.
Immigration, in my opinion, is just another issue that Democrats don’t want to do anything about, but bring up anyway, to divide conservatives.
It is time for Republicans to come together. I still support Romney. However, the time is comming for all of us to:
Shut UP
Sit Down
Grow UP
DEAL!
How about NOT calling a fellow Republican an idiot?
;)
Sorry man, just don’t trust McCain. My job in the primaries is to support who I think will do the best Job (Not who is best for The Party). now if mCCain wins the convention then I will support him. But basiclly we do not need to bring the party into anything until the Candidate is picked. that is when Dole should have sent the letter. Primaries are for the people to choose.
Ben
My apologies.
I realize that your friend, whom I called an idiot, was making a quick comment, just as I was.
It would have been more tactful if I had said:
“Making your decision based on a personal endorsement isn’t always a good idea. Voting against someone, just because someone you don’t like, is supporting that person, is also a bad idea, for there will always be someone you don’t like supporting people you do like.”
If I recall, your friend would not vote for Romney because Romney was endorsed by Hannity. That is odd. Hannity supported DOLE as well, if I recall.
Your friend has the same right to make an off the cuff remark as me, as Romney, as the Clintons and as McCain.
I stand by my earlier post: McCain and both Clinton’s are both known to say far worse, in public.
Romney was tired, and what he said was not a slam against Dole, but against the Dole campaign.
Ya, it HURT, but I understand what Romney meant.
I am sure that Dole understands, as well.
BG
I agree with you.
I have always told Republicans to vent their disagreements in the primary, and then shut up until the next primary.
McCain shares some of the blame here, on the letter bit.
Bob Dole did not intend for his letter to be released to the public, or at least, not in the way that McCain presented it.
Dole had criticisms for BOTH McCain AND Limbaugh, in that letter.
There, I just stuck up for Dole.
Happy Eagle?
Paul – you still miss the point 100% I asked her and, as I explained to you, it was not the extremists’ endorsements that turned her off. YOU KNOW THAT. It was the fact that Romney felt it was so extremely important that he had the extremists’ support.
You tried to use a Sharpton/Farrakhan analogy but used it incorrectly. As I noted, I don’t care who those idiots support. However, if a candidate said to me “vote for me because I have been endorsed by Sharpton/Farrakhan” I would likely walk away.
Can you understand the difference?
And if your recollection is “your friend would not vote for Romney because Romney was endorsed by Hannity” then you DEFINITELY have a serious reading comprehension problem.
“what he said was not a slam against Dole”
Paul – you DEFINITELY have a reading comprehension problem. Romney said DOLE – not ‘Dole staffers’
Romney followed up with “I would love to have Dole’s endorsement” He mispoke.
Oh well.
Type McCain Temper into your browser.
Type Clinton Temper into your browser.
Now substitute “cussing” for “temper”
They have their verbal history, as well.
And Ben
I tried to meet YOU halfway.
I understand your point. Can you please attempt to understand mine?
McCain will brag about any conservatives who support him. Count on it.
Will that make your friend vote against McCain, if Hannity now supports McCain?
What if McCain brags about Hannity, or appears on Hannity’s show?
This is silly.
Uh, BG? In an earlier post you said you caucused with the Democrats last night. You didnt bring your wallet, remember?
And now you say this?
“now if mCCain wins the convention then I will support him”
WTF? I think you are not who you pretend to be.
Either that, or you have a problem with “truthiness”.
Both scarborough and pat buchanan were TRASHING dole last night.
I love the smell of republicans eating their own.
Willard Romney re: Bob Dole
““the last person I would have wanted to write a letter for me”
Flip
Willard Romney redux: Bob Dole
““I would love to have Dole’s endorsement!”
Flop
Willard Romney’s overall showing last Super Duper Tuesday.
FLOP!
Paul – I think the straw that broke it was that the endorsers that Romney bragged about were calling McCain ’scum’
And, AS YOU KNOW PAUL, it was Lars Larson and Rush Limbaugh – NOT HANNITY.
I need to take my little radio with me when I leave so I can hear Hannity this afternoon.
Just yesterday, Hannity was calling Huckabee “McCains attack dog” and saying that Huckabee “is unelectable.
How he spins outta that after last night I wanna hear.
J R – keep us posted. Should be comical!
;)
Ben, while awaiting JR’s report, Hannity could use the results of the primaries won by Gov. Huckabee as evidence for this “Huckabee is McCain’s attack dog” ridiculousness Hannity apparently is spouting. I don’t listen to nor watch him, so I, too, will await the JR report to see if I’m close. :-)
But … but … didn’t you know? Huckabee is a LIBERAL!!!!!
;)
More grand old men like Bob Dole and the GOP will have a permanent minority…. due to electile dysfunction.
I didn’t hear all of Hannity.
He stayed mostly away from GOP troubles.
Spent most of his time trying to prove that Hillary Clinton lost big to Obama on super Tuesday?
I guess he would rather not talk about his opinions of one day before.
Well the blog confirms talk radio.
I was just over on the McCain thread. No cons there.
And not here either.
But you can find our con posters on the threads about Obama and the Democratic caucususes.
Can it be that with no prefferable nominee of their own they seek to find one among ours?
And the chosen one would SEEM to be Obama.
We should consider that. It seems they are.
I love Romney! I love his experience as a businessman! I love his personal growth in that he’s becoming more conservative! I love him because he is true to his faith! I love him because of all he does!
And finally, I love him because he can beat any of the democratic wannabees!
(Just for you J R)
