Looks like Obama’s going to win the nomination. He leads Hillary 12 to 9 in primaries, and 8 to 2 in caucuses. She has won 2 races by 20+ percentages, he’s won17. On the last 8 elections it’s not 4 to 4 or 5 to 3 or 6 to 2. It’s been an 8-0 sweep. She won California by 9.7%, but this is attributable to nearly 1 out of 3 voters submitting early mail-in ballots, before Obama got his momentum.

Hillary has demoted her campaign manager and fired her deputy campaign manager. Her flaming out isn’t her fault, it’s those darned incompetents she selected. Not to mention Bill’s discredited Obama put-downs.

Hillary would be the best presidential candidate around. She could defeat the vast right wing conspiracy. But all these people around her are screwing things up for her.

I so hope she ekes out the majority, then Obama will have to claim that her superdelegate majority will have to stand. There will be no whining about how he lead the delegates that the people voted for.

and I’m still angry that CNN removed my comments on the caucus fraud by the republicans.

If the republicans had their way they truly would have been excluded! So, thank a Dem.! The Dems. are now busy working on a stimulus package to help those unemployed over 6 mos. something the Repubs. were adamantly against. They’d rather spend our money on war.

My wife (therefor, my kids) only drink bottled water. I tap it myself. Price bottled water by the gallon! While mowing the yard for the last time of summer I found 4 half-drank water bottles. I came in the house fuming and told the kids if they wanted to waste money they could start drinking gasoline and save me money.

Herbert, seniors on social security are not getting screwed out of anything. They didn’t have income, so they don’t have anything to base payment on.

As it is congress is creating 150 billion dollars in worthless IOU’s to the treasury to hand out money they don’t have. Fortunately for you, old people will have died and be six feet under before the bill comes due.

The Senate couldn’t stop BushCo’s minions there from delivering immunity for telecoms that worked with gov’t to illegally spy on Americans.

Barack Obama voted against the bill because of the immunity it provided. McCain of course voted for it.

Hillary Clinton just couldn’t find the time to vote against legally protecting companies who illegally spy on American citizens.

Have seven years of an inarticulate President taught us anything?

Obama IS an impressive speaker. But here is an assessment of what happens when he is denied a teleprompter…

“..In spite of Obama’s obvious strengths in this area, questions linger regarding Obama’s gifted speechifying. Do his speeches give us a glimpse at a very special man with a unique vision? Or are we merely witnessing a political one-trick pony? Yes, Obama can turn a phrase better and do more with a Teleprompter than any other modern era politician. But does his special skill set here actually mean anything, or is it instead the political equivalent of a dog walking on its hind legs–unusual and riveting, but not especially
significant? Regardless, the liberal commentators have gushed their praise nearly every time Obama has opened his mouth before a Teleprompter the past few months

It was thus interesting to see Obama climb to the stage at Virginia’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Saturday night. As he strode to the podium, Obama clutched in his hands a pile of 3 by 5 index cards. The index cards meant only one thing–no Teleprompter.

Shorn of his Teleprompter, we saw a different Obama. His delivery was halting and unsure. He looked down at his obviously copious notes every few seconds throughout the speech. Unlike the typical Obama oration where the words flow with unparalleled fluidity, he stumbled over his phrasing repeatedly.”

And of course Obama told us in one of the debates that he cannot keep track of important notes.

And then there’s that business about wanting to work with Republicans.

    Look before you leap folks.

There’s no problem with Obama. He graduated from Harvard Law and was editor of the Law Review.

    Tracy,

Abilify is not an antidepressant. It is though a fairly new drug and I am betting your friend (Jim?) could have his wife obtain free samples at any number of places.

Also, there are programs where one can apply to the drug company as a hardship case and get a discount. If Jim’s wife needs Abilify, it is not one of those that would be an “optional” drug – in other words she probably really needs it. And there exist reasonable options for her to get it.

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”

    Or,

    “Bomb. Bomb. Bomb.
    “Bomb, bomb Iran.”

    What a card.

It’s really amusing to see the Cons spin like Nureyev on acid. McCain objects to eco-cons’ perpetual tax breaks for the wealthy. McCain is against the Brown Holocaust advocates on the immigration issue. McCain want to perpetuate George WMD Bush’s little Iraqi adventure.

“American jobs aren’t coming back,” he says. “The Mexicans aren’t going home,” he says. “And we’re going to war in Iraq for another hundred years!”

Their latest effort is an 11th-hour deal to sponsor two high-profile drivers in NASCAR’s 2008 Nationwide Series (formerly the Busch Series.)

The grassroots group, known as Ron Paul Racing, announced today that the proposed season-long sponsorship deal would include the Fitz Motorsports Dodge number 36, driven by Kenny Wallace, and the Fitz Motorsports Dodge number 22, driven by Mike Bliss.

This is changing the subject – by a long shot. Yes, I’m pleased for Obama that he’s doing so well – but I’ve got something else to say today…….

Age can bring many, many things – not all of them negative. Age can augur periods of sage wisdom, increased knowledge, self-awareness, professional accomplishment, great and stupendous feats, excellent CD collections, a bookshelf filled with the most inscrutable literacy, etc……..

and it can also usher in what one 1970s doctor deemed “the closest a woman can come to turning into a man.”

In 1995, I emerged from more than five years of what I called “the dead zone.” Diagnosed with major depression in 1989, I struggled horribly on a way-too-low dose of antidepressant medication – and I felt nothing. I was nowhere, as Kurt Cobain once said before he offed himself in 1994.

It was my bright idea to increase my medication in 1995 – and the results were miraculous. Slowly but inexorably, my senses were reborn – along with my libido. For some masochistic reason, I watched daily coverage of the O.J. trial and became attracted to one of the journalists covering that debacle. He was funny; he was savvy; he disdained O.J. (just like I did and still do) – and for some reason I found him quite handsome.

Fast-forward to 2008: This double-D-d—hebag is evidently now a far-right wingnut on Fox TV. In an unforgivable descent into bad taste and insensitivity, Gibson had the gutbucket gall to mock the late actor Heath Ledger on live radio. (Go to YouTube and type in “John Gibson….Heath Ledger” on the search engine – it’ll take you right to this festering crapheap.)

What is it about eros that compels such idiocy? To think – I actually thought this white-haired nutbag was a hottie – back in the day. Since 1995, several things have happened: Gibson’s gotten a lot older and a whole lot fatter; this chick’s gotten a whole lot more menopausal and a lot more knowledgeable; and Fox-TV has allowed Gibson to open his mouth far too often. Put all those things together – and you’ve got a recipe for catatonia along with a sexless existence.

The conservative talk-show titan also accused John Edwards of “whoring his wife’s cancer.” I saw nothing of the sort. This is really, really despicable. So, I’m left with some unsettling conclusions.

I can’t take HRT owing to family history. I have a drastically declining sex drive along with my acrid ovaries, and I’m not really lamenting this loss – not when I consider the impetus that kept me riveted to the TV back in 1995. Menopause can be a huge tragedy, especially if one is married. But it ain’t necessarily a tragedy for this discerning diva.

Gibson issued a mealy-mouthed “apology” days after his appalling take on Ledger; however, I’m not buying it. I also haven’t bought those “bioidentical” hormones either.

If estrogen can cause such catastrophic lapses in good taste – I should have probably paid A.C. Cowlings to run over me with his hooptie nearly 14 years ago…………….

Second, it sounds like an expansion of certain existing programs which provide funding for higher ed if the student “volunteers” to serve in VISTA, among other organizations. Under the current program, the “volunteering” may occur pre-matriculation or post-graduation. In the latter case, the credits, or funding, or whatever one wishes to call it, may be applied against outstanding student loan debt.

That wouldn’t amount to any change: Self employed can already have a SEP. They can also start and offer a 401K to their employees and also be a participant.

    What’s different with Obama’s plan?

Not to the diehards, I’m sure. I think they want a much smaller government than most. And I made no mention of government interference in our lives (drug laws come to mind).

There are many issues to the libertarian ideology I could go along with – but I don’t think they would go mainstream. That’s why I’m thinking of a cross between the conservatives and libertarians.

I’ve a niece who did this for a year after graduating from the University of Miami, and as a result thereof, has decided “what she wants to do when she grows up” and will be enrolling in grad school to further her education in the area she’s determined as her choice of careers.

    “What are your criteria?”

Mine are less ambitious than yours:
Someone who will pay down the debt, grow the economy, and make government work (better than it did for Katrina).

For all of his faults, Bill Clinton did the above. Is Hillary the same candidate as Bill? I don’t think so. Even though she takes corporate money like it is going out of style, she will be less corporate-friendly than Bill was. Going against the trend in my camp, I am not sure this difference is a good one.

I don’t know enough about Obama other than he rivals MLK in speaking ability. That is not enough for me.

I am not terribly bothered by a McCain presidency. I don’t buy the “in Iraq for 100 years” line – that is him pandering to the Republican base, I think. I have been hearing mainline Republicans talk about McCain being too emotional and reactive. Maybe that is a fault, maybe not.

I would like to see a Clinton/Obama ticket. I don’t care about the order, either. She needs him, more than he needs her.

    It should be interesting…

Excellent question, BG. I don’t pretend to know for certain, but it seems like our congress acts like a bunch of star struck groupies–and they wanted to see him in person.

Remember a few years back when congress was supposedly “investigating” farm problems? They held ‘hearings’ and called ‘witnesses’. Did the ‘witnesses’ have any particular knowledge of farming? No..they were 3 actresses who played farm wives in the movies. Of course, they claimed they researched a lot, so that gave them the ability to speak authoritatively.

Expand Retirement Savings Incentives for Working Families: Obama will ensure savings incentives are fair to all workers by creating a generous savings match for low and middle-income Americans. His plan will match 50 percent of the first $1,000 of savings for families that earn less than $75,000. The savings match will be automatically deposited into designated personal accounts. Over 80 percent of these savings incentives will go to new savers.

In another case, a woman is pulled over for speeding, and the cop without being threatened at all by this woman, throws her out of the car onto the ground.

In the 3rd link, a man is standing on a street in New Orleans not threatening anyone, and several cops jump him and beat the crap out of him, while another cop sits on his horse trying to get in the way of the news camera that is filming the beating.

These people were not threatening ANYONE in ANY way, yet they were beaten by the police.

Down Website Tracking U.S. Economic Indicators
The U.S. economy is faltering. Family debt is on the rise, benefits are disappearing, the deficit is skyrocketing, and the mortgage crisis has worsened. Conservatives have attempted to deflect attention from the crisis, by blaming the media’s negative coverage and insisting the United States is not headed toward a recession, despite what economists are predicting.
The Bush administration’s latest move is to simply hide the data. Forbes has awarded EconomicIndicators.gov one of its “Best of the Web” awards. As Forbes explains, the government site provides an invaluable service to the public for accessing U.S. economic data:
This site is maintained by the Economics and Statistics Administration and combines data collected by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, like GDP and net imports and exports, and the Census Bureau, like retail sales and durable goods shipments. The site simply links to the relevant department’s Web site. This might not seem like a big deal, but doing it yourself–say, trying to find retail sales data on the Census Bureau’s site–is such an exercise in futility that it will convince you why this portal is necessary.
Yet the Bush administration has decided to shut down this site because of “budgetary constraints,” effective March 1:
Economic Indicators is particularly useful because people can sign up to receive e-mails as soon as new economic data across government agencies becomes available. While the data will still be available online at various federal websites, it will be less readily accessible to members of the public.
In its e-mail announcement on the closing of Economic Indicators, the Department of Commerce acknowledged the “inconvenience” and offered “a free quarterly subscription to STAT-USA®/Internet™” instead. Once this temporary subscription runs out, however, the public will be forced to pay a fee. So not only will economic data be more hidden, it will also cost money.
It’s ironic that the Economic and Statistics Administration is facing “budgetary contraints,” considering Bush recently submitted a record $3.1 trillion budget to Congress for FY ‘09.

Obama Camp Claims Potomac Sweep Is Turning Point of Campaign
    by FOXNews.com
    Wednesday, February 13, 2008

In the civil war of the Democratic nominating season, Tuesday night’s Potomac Primary was Gettysburg.

That’s the argument Barack Obama’s campaign was making Wednesday, saying the Illinois senator’s three-contest sweep of the Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. primaries marked a “decisive” turning point in his battle with Hillary Clinton.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said on a conference call that it is now “next to impossible” for Clinton to close Obama’s lead in pledged delegates.

“We couldn’t be in a stronger position right now, and the last really five days, we believe, will be looked back at as a very decisive period in the nomination contest,” Plouffe said. “We think it really put us on the path to the nomination.”

He will also any retiree to make up to 50 thousand a year income-tax free. They won’t even have to file.

    Clinton Ex-Campaign Manager Backs Obama
By PHILIP ELLIOTT – 1 hour ago

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The man who served as national manager of former President Clinton’s 1992 campaign endorsed Sen. Barack Obama on Wednesday.

David Wilhelm, who led the campaign and later became chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Obama had the unique ability to encourage cooperation as a 65-percent president after the divisive years of a 51-percent majority. He was referring to the notion that Obama could govern the country with the support of a large coalition, as opposed to more polarized support for President Bush.

    JR,

Obama and Hillary are nearly identical on the issues.

Iraq is a big difference, in favor of Obama. To me, this is offset by Obama’s flip flopping on Pakistan, and some of the IGNORANT comments he has made on Pakistan.

Obama is likeable. That’s probably the biggest plus for him. All politicians are dishonest, but Hillary appears to be extremely dishonest and is the biggest flipper on the issues I have ever seen.

Barrack has a much smoother delivery, keeps a much cooler head, and doesn’t cry all the time, in public anyway.

Hillary is NOT likeable. Nothing is genuine about her. She has to severely strain herself to even appear friendly.

It’s a coin toss, I don’t know how you Dems split hairs on either one.

Democrats would have to be terribly dense to have someone with high negative ratings as their nominee.

    But please do nominate Hillary.

Obama might actually fool enough people to vote for him.

I’ve already said, I’m not FOR any candidate now. It’s voting against the MOST evil.

And that would be either Hillary or Barrack.

McCain Sucks. But Hillary and Barrack suck more.

    How Enron Worked the President!

(This is an interesting bit of information that you don’t hear much about.)

    1. Enron’s chairman did meet with the president and the vice president in the Oval Office.

    2. Enron gave $420,000 to the president’s party over three years.

    3. It donated $100,000 to the president’s inauguration festivities.

    4. The Enron chairman stayed at the White House 11 times.

    5. The corporation had access to the administration at its highest level and even enlisted the Commerce and State Departments to grease deals for it.

    6. The taxpayer-supported Export-Import Bank subsidized Enron for more than $600 million in just one transaction.

    Scandalous!!

BUT..the president under whom all this happened WASN’T George W. Bush.

    SURPRISE!

    It was President Bill Clinton!

Almost 30 years have elapsed since the “third rate burglary” of the Democratic National Committee headquarters on June 17, 1972 that opened the dam of the Watergate scandal. The press and members of Congress largely ignored the crime, as then President Richard M. Nixon kept the nation’s focus on the war in Vietnam.

Similarly, with the press and Congress distracted by President George W. Bush’s war in Afghanistan, they are ignoring another scandal. No third rate burglary, the Enron Corp. scandal involves millions of dollars in campaign contributions to Bush, U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm and other members of Congress. The cozy relationship between the Bush White House and Enron enabled Kenneth L. Lay, then Enron’s CEO, to meet in secret with Vice President Richard Cheney to help mold the nation’s energy policy. Bush’s presidential campaign received $1.14 million from Enron.

Shortly after taking office, President Bush waged a battle against the imposition of federal price controls in California that allowed Enron to price-gouge consumers by extending the energy crisis in California, costing the state billions of dollars. Enron reported increased revenues of almost $70 billion from the previous year.

Bush also resisted attempts to crack down on Enron’s utilization of its 847 offshore subsidiaries in countries with lax banking-regulation laws. The consumer-rights watchdog organization Public Citizen alleges that some of these offshore havens helped Enron defraud its stockholders.

My name is William Stephenson Clark and I have the birth certificate to prove it.

But if you want to check, look up the records for Knox County, Kentucky, June 1952.

    And there I am!!!!!

McCreepy condemns ANYONE that does not use his or her real name as being a COWARD.

Of course, he doesn’t use HIS real name, but that is beside the point.

McCreepy says that you are a spineless wimp and a sissy if you do not use your real name as a nic.

So, take it up with him.

You know, they guy that is REAL concerned about the size of another posters testicles.

That is why we call him McCreepy.

  208. Posted February 13, 2008 at 11:12 pm | Permalink

“And why would your heritage matter”

Only because McCreepy says that I am not Jewish (never said I was, I said that I am of partial Jewish heritage) I am not Native American (I never said I was, I said that I have NA ancestors) and that I am not black (I never said I was, I said that I had African American ancestors.)

I only mention these facts because McCreepy is INSISTENT that everyone HAS to use their real name when posting – everybody EXCEPT him.

But it is kinda funny that you suddenly show up, espouse a right wing point of view and our late unlamented friend McCreepy is nowhere to be found.

That is his usual MO – meltdown, then reappear under a new nic.

But who am I to judge – just ask anyone else.

    They all know his story.
