Did any of you actually LISTEN to Huckabee? The man said something to the fact that we should change our Constitution to reflect what is in the BIBLE! He says that it is “easier to change the Constitution than to change the Bible”. If this does not SCARE the shit out of you, nothing will!

For once, I agree with y’all.

Huckleberry Hound has got to go!

He’s no conservative, raising taxes by 1/2 Billion Dollars in Arkansas. Preaching every other sentence. Giving tax dollars to illegal immigrants.

Huckleberry should run on the Dem ticket, except that he does at least support the 2nd Amendment.

“The man said something to the fact that we should change our Constitution to reflect what is in the BIBLE!”

Christ, what changed does he want to make? Mandating Christianity? Church attendance? Honor thy father and mother?

Whoa! Contrary to the thoughts of some people, the law of the land is not based on the Ten Commandments. In actuality, only two of the commandments are law, and those two sins are against the law in every country in the world, Judea – Christian or not.

The last thing this country needs is another RR President.

That having been said, I hope that the Huckster does get the GOP nomination – the Democrats could run a sack of rocks and beat Huckabee.

The sack would be smarter, too.

“Dr Edward Hanna said: “Our work shows that global warming is beginning to take its toll on the Greenland Ice Sheet which, as a relict feature of the last Ice Age, has already been living on borrowed time and seems now to be in inexorable decline. The question is can we reduce greenhouse-gas emissions in time to make enough of a difference to curb this decay?” “

UFOs Over East Texas — this week:

Dozens of people in a small Texas town are talking about an unexpected visitor, but the question is, where did it come from?

The residents of Stephenville, Texas, claim to have seen a UFO, described as a mile-wide, silent object with bright lights, flying low and fast. So what was it?

More than 30 residents insist they saw the unthinkable a gigantic UFO.

“It was very intense, bright lights,” said local newspaper reporter Angela Joyner.

“The lights were like going like this,” said Constable Leroy Gateman making hand gestures to describe what he saw when he spotted the UFO.

Rick Sorrells says he saw it while he was hunting deer in the woods.

“You look at the trees, and it was right here,” Sorrells told ABC News correspondent Mike Von Fremd as he showed him the location in the woods where he spotted the UFO.

Steve Allen, a 50-year-old pilot, was at a campfire with friends and says the object was a mile long and half a mile wide. “I don’t know if it was a biblical experience or somebody from a different universe or whatever but it was definitely not from around these parts,” Allen said.

Allen drew a sketch of the object, which he said traveled at amazing speed without making a sound. While drawing, Allen told Von Fremd that he saw “an arch shape converted in a vertical shape, and then it split and made two of them, and then these turned into just fire and it was gone.”

A spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing in Fort Worth says no aircraft from his base was in the area, and says the objects may have been an illusion caused by two commercial airplanes. But those who saw the lights don’t buy that explanation.

“It’s an unidentified flying object,” insisted a former Air Force technician.

“It was so fast I couldn’t track it with my binoculars,” said Gateman.

    re: UFOs’

Wasn’t there a UFO reported over Wichita / missile silo’s in the 70’s in conjunction with other sightings at nuclear facilities across the country?

I gather by some of the responses already that more than a few don’t believe in UFO stories and the only aliens they know of are the ones from Mexico.

There are also reports dating back to the 40s regarding USFO’s (Under Sea flying objects) most credibly it would seem several reports from a Navy aircraft carrier crew and a host of claims of a small fleet of USFOs around the Catalina and Channel Islands of the coast of LA (ok- it’s LA and people see / imagine things all the time). Last year a reported sighting by dozens of people over the United Terminal Chicago.

Believers? non – believers ? Speak up —-

How do UFOs’ fit into the various faiths?

    Personal experience?

Are we better off not knowing or should the government tell us if they were certain of an extraterriastial existence?

American corporations selling chunks to economic powerhouses

Wall Street has endured a historic selloff of the city’s blue bluest chips.

America is for sale – and the buyers of some of our most iconic corporate assets are a passel of Mideast oil sheiks, Asian government investment funds and market Marxists.

Sinking fast and growing desperate, some of the biggest corporations have been grabbing foreign dollars by selling chunks of themselves to economic powerhouses that were once second-tier states.

Amid a historic selloff of the city’s bluest blue chips, Uncle Sam has been a bystander, lowering interest rates and peddling Treasury bonds as critics cry that the wheels are starting to fly off the U.S. economy.

The most recent deal: Citigroup (which lost $10 billion last quarter) yesterday sold a $12.5 billion stake to investors from Kuwait, Singapore and Saudi Arabia’s Prince Alwaleed bin Talal – and announced it axed another 4,200 workers on top of the already announced 17,000 it cut after the subprime mortgage mess.

    A fart can be short,
Or a fart can be long,
    Some farts have been known,
To sound just like a song.

    Some farts do not smell,
    While others are vile,
    A fart may pass quickly,
    Or linger awhile.

    A fart can create
    A most-curious medley,
    A fart can be harmless,
    Or silent, but deadly.

    A fart can occur
    In a number of places,
    And leave everyone
With strange looks on their faces.

    From wide-open prairies,
    To small elevators,
A fart will find all of us
    Sooner or later.

    So be not afraid
    Of the invisible gas,
    For always remember,
    That farts, too, shall pass.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has introduced the Positive Alternatives Act that puts into law prior Bush administration regulations allowing states to use the TANF program to help pregnant women. Current federal regulations allow states to fund abortion alternatives, and Bachmann’s bill, the “Positive Alternatives Act” (H.R. 4852) codifies the current state option. It allows states to fund programs that provide information or counseling that assists women in making decisions about parenting and adoption.
Democrat candidates will be fighting to see who is the first and loudest to deny federal funding promoting alternatives to abortion. They are promoting abortion mill profits, not “choice”.

Just left the Mulvane City Council meeting with the Harrahs developers making a presentation to the city at large – looked like 500+ in attendance. Council action to endorse thier proposal will occur after all the presentations (70 signed up) —

Based on audience applause it looked like the pro resort / casino folks outnumbered the anti folks about 2-1. In the first 10 presentations 7 spoke in favor of it.

However, it seemed during the Q & A, prior to the individual comments — it seemed most questioners seemed to be against the casino.

Mayor Ford (he kind of reminded me of the Old Mayor Daley, Chicago) ran a pretty tite ship, as soon as a questioner strayed from questioning the specific of the proposal he stopped them — had one young lady escorted from the podium when she was steering towards a social issue question and wouldn’t stop? Couldn’t tell if they were booing him or her from the audience (the boos seem to begin when she started her question) but intensified when she was escorted away (quite civil — glad the Mulvane police didn’t have to Taz her — HAH !!)

Initial indications (based on the property annexation earlier) I suspect it will be approved. But they’l be hearing presentations til almost midnight it seems.

“Is this a matter of they want a casino, but not in their backyard?”

for the most part yes — understand Mulvsne is in both counties, long story initially 4 proposals were submitted to Sumner county 2 in wellington 2 at mulvane — based on a petition with about 600 signees against the casino the commission decided the folks in Mulvane didn’t want a casino and endorsed both Wellington proposals — when that happened the pro casino folks here got better organized I guess and tonight the Mulvane city council is voting to on wether to endorse the resort / casino — it is a state requirement that the local government endorse / approve proposals in order for the state to consider it — Mulvane never approached any of the developers for a proposal. Harrah’s came to them — If you remember the proposals for the Mulvane exit were considerably more expensive in construction etc (500 mil vs 300-350 mil) … and they showed a much larger revenue stream by over 100 million a year.

I am not a gambler — well at least not a good one so I rarely play, but I’d enjoy other aspects of the resort (a golfer). My interest in it is more on the energy, eco development aspects. I think it should be designed and built as much off the grid as possible with thier own little wind farm, solar panels, fleet of hybrid vehicles, make it as eco friendly as possible, recycling effluent to the golf course and other industrial uses, participate on a grand scale recylcing -

Long term (start planning now) use the casino as the center point for the development of corridor from Wichita south as a research, developement, manufacturing and education region for the alternative energy, green and composite materials industries. It presents a unique opportunity for a public / private cooperstion that can have far eaching impact and put the area on the “Map” as being more progressive than most of the nation thinks ….

    ken,

You mentioned my overblown ego losing the Casino?

I just wanted the development money spent in this County or City of Wichita. I saw no further aspects of enhancing the community.

There you are being a visionary wanting a “green” casino and a development corridor imagined.

Especially those hybrid vehicles they have to use! Does Mercedes, BMW, or Bentley have those? New Corvette ZR-1 are more eco proper with 650 hp they say. What about that Dodge Viper? It will take switch grass for fuel?

Executives of Harrah’s are supposed to do what?

Yes, there will be improved roads, widening, turn lanes and stoplights to the Casino. You want development lining each side of the street.

You don’t believe business dies closer it gets to a Casino? Charlie Chandler really disagrees with you on that.

Which government are talking with to plan this out?

I don’t argue “go green” to any company what they want build! That’s an ego on you!

It’s too bad development should be outside this County but somehow it enhances us as a destination and development corridor. Curious way of thinking.

This morning I got up to the sound of the neighbor’s 2 dogs squealing in pain. They’re kept in an 8X8 pen. Their water is frozen, they don’t have food or straw and it’s 17 degrees outside. I called animal control a couple of weeks ago, but there’s nothing they can do. There’s no law that says dogs have to have straw or bedding.
I think I’m going to be sick.

I wasn’t trying to be an ass about any of that CIA/Roswell crap, I just wanted to correct my goof.

It was an error. I knew they were in the same year and I owned up to my MAJOR F&%K UP by being off by TWO YEARS.

Are you calling me stupid for that????

I’ll make war with you (if that’s what you want).

    XXX,

There is something that can be done according to the City of Wichita Ordinance. The owner of the penned in animal, appears to be violating the “inhumane treatment of animals ordiance.”

    City of Wichita Ordinance 6.04

    “Section 6.04.010 Definitions. section (k)

“Inhumane treatment” means any treatment to any animal which deprives the animal of necessary sustenance, including food, water and protection from the weather; any treatment such as overloading, overworking, tormenting; beating, mutilating, teasing or other abnormal treatment; or causing or allowing the animal to fight with any other animal.

    “Section 6.04.035 (a)(3)
    Cruelty to animals.

    Having physical custody of any animal and intentionally failing to provide such food, potable water, protection from the elements, opportunity for exercise and other care as is needed for the health or well-being of such kind of animal, or to carry any animal in or upon any vehicle in a cruel or inhumane manner. Any animal kept outside shall be provided with a structurally sound, weatherproof enclosure, large enough to accommodate the animal;

You’re kidding — you didn’t want the money spent anywhere else but downtown. And you lost it because thats all you wanted to pimp for — so folks like me voted against a downtown casino because they couldn’t see your idea of a resort casino downtown — I’m guessing you lost at least a 1000 votes probably more — your TV face Randy Brown was a joke — in the TV debate he sounded, looked and acted like a tourist just off the plane all that was missing was the drink with an Umbrella—- it’s that narrow minded thinking on you and your cronies part that lost the casino for Wichita – it’s you and yours greed that killed it

And, I am not insisting or arguing they go green etc — I’m just suggesting it, seems a good idea to put those things in place during the design phase. If they don’t I’ll still go to the resort to golf, eat etc ….500 million is a huge investment by a developer, and oh by the way they didn’t ask anyone to raise the sales tax a penny to pay for it ………. and ya know what, I’ll probably go to the arena for a concert or 2 also — Also, I don’t pretend to have any answers on how it technically can be done, but we know the technology is there and can be done – even Harrahs said they have an operation somewhere that sells electricity back to the grid … It’s a novel approach the private and public sector working together for the long term good of a region — folks like you discourage it

“You don’t believe business dies closer it gets to a Casino? Charlie Chandler really disagrees with you on that.”

Where did I say anything closely resembling that – are you trying to say no businesses would be lost downtown if the casino were built there – how many threatened to move out again — remind again?

The downtown casino was a very narrow minded proposition — you and the downtown folks were not really thinking about the community — you were thinking of your $$$$$ ………

“Somehow it enhances us as a destination and development corridor.”
I’ve been saying that all along. “Somehow” yeah the resort will be sending a couple of hybrid buses or vans to your events every time — think ya can get em place nearby to park — oh I forgot there is no place nearby for parking —–

You need to stop thinking that anyone with a different idea is a foe — you and the county / city would be better off with a casino near Mulvane and should consider sending a letter of support for a Mulvane casino to the lottery board. Or are you under orders to be quiet about it?

Regardless — sounds like Casino envy — get over it

Appears to me XXX, if the dogs are freezing, they are not obviously being protected from the weather.

I would call the Supervisor of Animal Control and see if the ordinance was not understood by the worker.

I had an idiot Animal Control worker who came out to my house when I called them about two pit bulls killing another dog. First, none of the dogs belonged to me, but they had gotten into the yard while I was doing yard work and the gate was opened. The nonchalant animal control worker came out and asked me if the dog being killed was mine and I said “no.” The worker then took his time dealing with the situation. The dog that was being attacked by the two pit bulls had received at least in my estimation over 100 bite wounds and was near dead.

I don’t trust the workers at Animal Control. I would call the supervisor.

Well I don’t know how your relations are with your neighbor are X. And of course you DO have to live next to them.

Such folks would get one generous peice of my mind. If they made me sick I would not hesitate to tell them so.

I am not religious. But I believe in some way or other, those who are mean to animals will be made to pay.
