Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are so similar on so many issues that the new conflict over race has been magnified in importance. It seems clear that Bill Clinton’s “fairy tale†comment was taken out of context (he wasn’t talking about the Obama phenomenon, but the candidate’s narrative about his opposition to the Iraq war). But Hillary Clinton’s comment about the civil rights roles played by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and President Johnson speaks for itself; subsequent comments only seem to be deepening the insult felt by many African-Americans, who thought she was diminishing King’s significance. In any case, the whole thing may be out of Clinton’s hands, in that what she now says she meant matters less than how others heard it at the time.

Senator William Fulbright was Bill Clinton’s mentor, the man who made Bill Clinton’s political career possible.
Fulbright was a segregationist.
What would happen if a Republican ever said that a Black Democrat candidate had not done his “spade work”?????
Uh ok.
Rhonda got the memo and is waving it in her bare right hand.
Fatmouth Rush is on this game too. I bet if I knew how to get behind the scenes where these creatures dwell (ewww) I could find the orchestrated campaign. Fatty is even playing civil war music!
With their own nomination process in tatters, the movers and shakers on the right are trying to divide Democrats against each other. This they will never do.
WE know who the enemy is. We will be united in once and forever crushing the evil right soulless forces that have coopted the GOP.
I guess they got tired of beating up on Ron Paul.
I KNOW they’d rather not talk about how much trouble their own nominees are.
What Hillary said was essentially correct.
MLK helped get things going and LBJ helped make it law. I love the smell of Libs fighting each other.
It smells like victory.
What Hillary said was essentially correct, however, it was just dumb to say it. I think she was trying to point out that as inspirational as MLK was, it took someone with experience and power to get the legislation through. Black voters are a big chunk of the Democratic party, and saying what she said did not help her candidacy in the least, and probably alienated some voters.
That’s right JR – it’s the “vast right wing conspiracy” . . .
LOL
;)
My name’s Big Jim.
Those poor libs. Always under attack from the vast right wing conspiracy. Poor Hill first the boys pick on her and then she makes some dumb statement that people take literally. Don’t the libs know that hillaryspeak never says what she means you have to be able to interpret.
How about the media stop focusing on the Democratic nominee choice as a choice between an African American and a woman?
Look at the candidates and make up your own mind. These are the candidates with the most money. They evidently can be bought and are following the rules of the old system. They do not represent change! Both of these candidates have taken an incredible amount of money from corporations and their political action committees. That is who they will represent. If you think otherwise, you are fooling yourself and listening to rhetoric.
IMHO, John Edwards is the only true choice for change.
Ya know Rhonda,
You COULD have ignored this. Since there’s nothing to it?
Nah had to stir it up. Your daily obligation to your right wing media masters is accomplished.
Shame.
Americans won’t be electing a female or a black.
The Juvenile has an aversion to the truth.
Now, I am not calling Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton overt racists.
I am calling the Clintons overt snobs.
The Clintons think they are better than everyone, Black and White.
It was not long ago that nearly all of the liberals, on this Blog, were going off on an innocent “Ma Ca Ca” comment by a Republican.
It was not long ago that liberals were all over Trent Lott for an innocent statement.
It is time that the Democrats were held to some higher standards, if Republicans have to be so “politically correct”!
The Democrats have former Klansman Robert Byrd in the Senate, he is former leader of the Democrat Party, as well.
Bill Clinton was the protege of William Fulbright, a Southern Segregationist.
Hillary Clinton says that Obama has not done his “spade work” to become President.
Hillary supporters hint about Obama having a drug problem.
Hillary disses MLK.
—–
The truth is, Obama is fighting the White Democrat machine.
A machine that will allow Blacks at the table, but a machine that does not let the Blacks place any orders of their own.
The Democrat Party controls the menu.
Obama is just supposed to “eat it” and shut up.
The shill has no familiarity with truth.
“The truth is, Obama is fighting the White Democrat machine.
A machine that will allow Blacks at the table, but a machine that does not let the Blacks place any orders of their own.”
Unlike Republicans, who don’t allow Blakcs in the house, much less a place at the table.
How many Black Republicans are there in Congress? Bet none of the usual conservative racists on this blog will answer.
With Obama and Hillary as candidates, Democrats have reason to be proud. Shows that with Democrats, any child in this country could grow up to be president, male or female; Black or white.
Not so much with Republicans.
Uh huh.
Hannity is in this parade TOO!
Funny, I don’t FEEL divided from other liberals on this.
All the infighting is over on the thread that bemoans the poor choices the GOP has for nominees.
Ya failed GOP. Go beat each OTHER up some more.
“spade work” is what I was doing in my garden yesterday – working with a spade (shovel).
“Ya know Rhonda . . . your daily obligation to your right wing media masters is accomplished.”
OK, just so we all understand the rules:
One who disagrees with Capn is a “troll.”
One who disagrees with JR is a “shill.”
If there are other rules I should be aware of, please post ‘em – just so we all know.
Apparantly, one cannot have legitimate disagreement without having one’s motives attacked. You all have, I suppose, heard of people of good conscience simply disagreeing?
BTW – A perfect outcome this election cycle would be TWO brokered conventions. Probably too much to hope for, though . . .
spade work
first stage of the work, preparation for later work, pave the way
Paul did the spade work for our food bank. He asked each of the merchants for a donation.
http://bits.westhost.com/idioms/id559.htm
Careful, Ben. That’s a code word, ya know. Or didn’t you get the super-secret code decoder ring?
Do we have any doubt that had anyone on the GOP side used those same words, the media and the nutroots on the left would be all over him?
No.
Yeah, that’s just the way it is – only those who declare which words are the “code words” get the secret decoder ring.
GMC70,
Since you’re obviously racially sensitive, care to address my question?
How many Black Republicans are there in Congress?
Snuffy, do you recall any of these names:
Colin Powell
Condoleza Rice
Alan Keyes
Thomas Sowell
J.C. Watts
No, none are currently in Congress, but to call the Party of Lincoln, the Republican Party, the Party taht voted for the Civil Rights Act in higher percentages than the Democrats in Congress, is disgraceful and dishonest.
Black Conservatives are truly courageous. They get attacked mercilessly by the left.
GMC – maybe it has become a ‘code word’ but it has been a part of my vocabulary ‘forever’. I suppose that now the suit ’spades’ in bridge becomes a problem?
Meanwhile. going back to 1542 …
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_call_a_spade_a_spade
The phrase was introduced to English in 1542 in Nicolas Udall’s translation of Erasmus, Apophthegmes, that is to saie, prompte saiynges. First gathered by Erasmus:
Philippus aunswered, that the Macedonians wer feloes of no fyne witte in their termes but altogether grosse, clubbyshe, and rusticall, as they whiche had not the witte to calle a spade by any other name then a spade.
SS
Who’s votes passed the Civil Rights Acts? Republican votes; Byrd (KKK Grand Umpah) fillabustered against it; the issue split the Democratic party.
I will not apologize for the supposed “racial insensitivity” of the party of Lincoln to the party of Jim Crow. Especially when both parties have long since abandoned and repudiated AMERICA’S racist past. Real racism (such as Ron Paul’s) should be, and is condemned; each side accusing the other of having “code-word” or “covert” racism is counterproductive to both parties.
Ben –
That’s the problem with the whole “code word” silliness – it’s only a secret code word for those seeking to play “gotcha” politics. The left declares what the “code words” are, and applies them to the other side.
The fact of the matter is that if a Republican had used that same term referring to Obama, he’d be pilloried. But the sainted BC, of course, doesn’t speak in “code,” ya see.
Ya see?
GMC – agreed. BOTH parties have such things in their past and in their make-up. However, the majority of us want to ‘exorcise’ it.
GMC – actually, from what I gather, it is Rush who has the secret decoder ring on this one.

What president signed the Civil Rights Act into Law?
Why can’t you tell me how many Black Republicans there are in Congress?
“Especially when both parties have long since abandoned and repudiated AMERICA’S racist past.”
One party, the Democrats, has repudated the racist past. The other party, not really. Republicans just try to cover it up. The day will never dawn that you see a Black Republican candidate running for the Republican nomination for president.
Damn shame Colon Powell didn’t run. Wonder of Condi will take a shot.
Snuffy
You have no problem with Black areas sending Black representatives to Congress.
Neither do I.
However, are YOU supporting Obama or Hillary?
If you are supporting Hillary, would it be fair for me to call YOU a racist?
There is a Black Conservative movement. It is difficult work but that movement is growing.
The KKK and the Democrat Party used to be, pretty much, the same thing, in many parts of the country.
The Republican Party did not need to repudiate a KKK past, like the Democrats had to do.
“Black areas sending Black representatives ”
What exactly is meant here? “black areas”? And the capitalization of “black”. What is that about?
There is a scent of racism in that post…
Are there “White areas” too?
Sometimes, someone says more than they meant to?
Gonna be kinda hard to spin outta this one aint it paulthecon? Ooops! You did it again.
Nevada is now a dead heat:
http://www.rgj.com/blogs/inside-nevada-politics/2008/01/new-poll-democratic-race-in-nevada-dead.html
We now have 44 volunteers working for John Edwards in Sedgwick County.

Race is capitalized, by some people. It is not required in the AP Style Book, but many writers treat references to race the same as they would a reference to religion or nationality.
I capitalize Black the way I would Capitalize Caucasian.
I happen to object to the fact that the AP Stylebook says I have to Capitalize “Caucasian” and not the word “Black” when referencing race.
The AP Stylebook does say that I should Capitalize Negroe, but prefers the word “Black” in lower case.
I use caps out of respect.
Mike Huckabee has a problem, thus far, in “Catholic Areas” — it is not racist or sexist or bigoted to point out a candidates strengths or weaknesses in certain areas:

“However, are YOU supporting Obama or Hillary?”
Econ, I haven’t made a decision. I find them both to be first class candidates. It’s going to be a very tough decision.
Funny, I don’t use caps for any of those words.
I’ve never seen it done anywhere else either.
Anybody else can vouch for flailing frantic paul on this?
I’m gonna guess he had to do some pretty quick with the Google to TRY and get outta this.
Snuffy
Thanks for an honest answer.
On this point, you have the ring of truth.
Still no answer from the racist right to a very simple question.
How many Black Republicans are there in Congress?
Juvenile
You are an idiot.
Everything I told you came out of an admitedly old Associated Press Stylebook.
Snuffy
However, you seem to miss my point.
If you voted for Hillary, would that vote, by itself, make YOU a racist?
Juvenile
Show me a reference, anywhere, that says “Negro”
does not have to be capitalized.
Show me a reference, anywhere, that says “Caucasian” does not have to be capitalized.
Again, in my opinion, I should also capitalize “Black” in reference to race.
To do otherwise would be disrespectful, at best.
i’m not voting for that clown… she will have to look somewhere else for support. Go Mike Huckabee!!

However, you seem to miss my point.
If you voted for Hillary, would that vote, by itself, make YOU a racist?
Econ, you only get one shot. That’s not the question you asked. But to be honest, I’d have to really examine my deepest thoughts on that one. Short answer is, I don’t know. I’d like to say that race wouldn’t play a part in my decision. Either way, Democrats are the ones making history here.
Make that 45 volunteers for John Edwards in Sedgwick County.
At least Obama is clean and well spoken.
He’s got that going for him. Which is nice.
Put a fork in the pig…she’s done
I don’t think anyone much uses “Negro” anymore.
PC is “African American” that’s what Rhonda used.
It just doesn’t occur to me personally to capitalize a race. That is unless that race happeens to be the same as the proper name of a country ie “African American”.
I wouldn’t say “I drove through a White area”. Or “Barack Obama is a Black man” Or “Hillary Clinton is a White woman.”
Interesting. Telling hard to say for sure.
Well,
It is not clear whether paulthecon is a bigot.
He IS clearly a hypocrite. (This is NOT news)
There is no “racism” story here. There is misinterpretation being reported to CREATE a story here. Rhonda should not have done it.
And bad ol’ paulthecon JUMPED on it and started shrilling.
Oh but if it should be suggested that by his own words HE might be a racist? Why he is all taken aback!
Hypocrite!
This would be how Martin Luther King would see it…
“”Let freedom ring. And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring—when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children—black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics—will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”
The text of his speech does not capitalize “black” or “white” but DOES capitalize “Negro”.
Excuse me.
I was told that it was wrong to capitalize race descriptions.
I proved the Juvenile wrong on that point — with the exception of the word “Black” which I have decided, on my own, to capitalize, simply to put the pronoun “Black” on the same footing with:
Caucasian
Mexican
Spanish
Puerto Rican
African American
Negro
There is a “United Negro College Fund”
There is a “National Association for the Advancement of Colored People”
Also, we do have occassion, sometimes, to reprint a quote from the past, when such words were more “PC”.
The Juvenile is trying to play tit for tat.
He got his caught in a wringer, in the process.
The Juvenile attacks candidates based on religion.
The Juvenile wants to blow up Mexicans, on the border, with land mines.
The Juvenile wants to abolish the current state of Israel.
I call him on this, and he says it is, somehow, racist, that I capitalize the pronoun “Black”?
Oh well.
—–
The best thing that can come from all of this is that all the Black leaders, who come out in support of Hillary, will be reminded of their words and their excuses, for the Clintons, the next time some silly “MaCaCa” matter comes up.
I dont care.
I will do it my way.
Heh
I let him outta being a bigot. He PROVES he is a hypocrite. He posts his many disproven lies AGAIN and he wants to think I got reamed?
I hope YOU learned a lesson here today. It is EASY to call someone a racist. And you were ready to jump on a bandwagon for a story that never was. In the process ya got a little of your own back and ya didn’t like how it tasted.
On second though Rhonda? Thanks for this one.
The fighting and division you were hoping for HERE is over on the GOP candidates thread. Save me taking paul to school this thead’s a yawner.
heh heh
I wouldn’t have it any OTHER way there paulie!
By the way, MLK died long ago.
By the quote offered, you want to say that the word “Black” should not be capitalized.
However, the text of that MLK speech was printed using the same “style book” rules I just explained.
Do we get to pick and choose which words and capitalizations to use, based on what a reporter says that MLK said?
The “proof source” is weak, since a journalist, writing about the speech, can not know if MLK capitalized the words or not, in his script.
Even if he did, or did not, so what?
Times have obviously changed, based on his own use of the word Negro.
Again, I will continue to capitalize the pronoun “Black” when referencing race. I do so out of respect. I don’t give a damn what the Juvenile Bigot thinks about it.
I have paid my dues on the race issue and I will apologize to no one.
MonkeyHawk:
If you don’t mind my asking, what senate district are you in?
If you don’t want to answer here, you can email me (can’t figure out how typepress shows email addresses).
I do not know how making a comment about what Lyndon Johnson did is somehow diminishing what King did. This is one of the most hateful accusations ever.
Is pointing out what Gorbachev did somehow diminishing what Reagan did for the same result?
Is pointing to Doe diminishing the argument for Roe?
If I discuss what Susan B Anthony did for women’s rights, am I diminishing what Alice Paul did?
see, it’s ridiculous.
You trying to convince me, yourself, or the mouse in your pocket there paul?
Some people don’t know when to quit.
I STILL wonder about those “black areas”.
and this?
“By the way, MLK died long ago.” Is ALSO wrong if I get picky. He did NOT die of natural causes.
Juvenile
HUH?
My primary point was that what was “PC” in the days that MLK was alive may not be “PC” today.
Another point was that we can not know if MLK would agree with me, on the capitalization of the pronoun “Black” — I am convinced he would not object.
Quit?
Why should I? You are too stupid to understand any of this, but I write for my own enjoyment, and to inform those who come here, only to read.
You are a bigot.
I am not.
You are a bigot AND a Democrat.
It is useful for others to see what a Democrat bigot looks like.
pmom
No Republican could EVER get away with saying that a Black opponent had “not done his ’spade work to become President” and you know it.
“Black is sometimes capitalized in its racial sense, especially in the black press, though the lowercase form is still widely used by authors of all races. The capitalization of Black does raise ancillary problems for the treatment of the term white”
http://www.bartleby.com/64/C006/012.html
Well I’ll be glad to continue helping you beat yourself up there paul.
It aint me looks defensive here.
And certainly I’VE displayed no bigotry here. If you think you have it is on you. Sorry.
http://community.livejournal.com/blackfolk/4765179.html
“Personally, it would seem to me that black should be capitalized when in reference to a person’s race, so the sentence, “The Black man wore a black shirt, while the White man wore white,” would be proper.”
You dunce. When you keep spinning it it just makes you look worse! AGAIN who are you trying to convince?
Juvenile
You are being more careful.
That is a good thing.
I have accomplished some good in the world, concerning YOUR outrageous statements.
You now shrink from wanting to blow up Mexicans with landmines, you also shrink from wanting to relocate all the Jews in Israel, due to being told that your views, on those matters, were racist and bigoted.
You still seem intent on being a religious bigot, attacking Romney on his faith, on other threads.
You are being more careful, and that is a good thing.
Progress is always good.
“You now shrink from wanting to blow up Mexicans with landmines, you also shrink from wanting to relocate all the Jews in Israel, due to being told that your views, on those matters, were racist and bigoted.”
I’m sure you have the proof of this bookmarked?
Got HIMSELF in a corner and now he wants to get nasty!
And I have never attacked Romney on his faith.
I have been more informative than he OR you as to making that faith better understood. Or I could peddle ignorance as you do?
Nah.
Oh and I don’t “shrink” from anything. YOU however? Well ya made yourself a little smaller today.
you don’t capitalize an adjective.
Geez.
And doing spade work, no you’re probably right. Depends on who the republican was…if they had a history of making racist type comments. We all know what the phrase spade work means. And we all know that spade is a racial slur. So when is it appropriate to talk about spades? Should we change the name of the card game too? Context, dear Paul. I know that’s hard for you.
Of course, I referred to a black guy as ‘monkeying around’ one day….and then had a ‘oh my god I hope he didn’t think I meant that in a racist way’ moment.
The Chicago Manual of Style is the most widely accepted. Anybody have a copy? I’m not going to register to find out if “black” is capitalized when pertaining to race. Pitiful argument, anyway.
Hey JR,
If you want to see him shrink, ask him how many Black Republicans there are in Congress. It’s a question Conservatives can’t answer without proving they’re the party of bigots and racists.
Well paulie has himself TWO tasks now. While he tries to prove that Senator Clinton is a racist…
…he gets to prove that HE is not. I wonder if the standards will be the same?
Huh yeah right.
This might be an education moment. I’m gonna look in various media for more information.
Here’s something interesting – a sample from the NYT political blog:
“. . . it seems to me that the most dangerous place to be in the rest of the country is between the Clintons and an elected office.”
Truer words were never spoken. More:
“What’s most confounding about this latest turn into ugliness, though, is the Clintons’ remarkable capacity to cast themselves as the victims in every fight. And so here is Hillary Rodham Clinton accusing Barack Obama of somehow injecting race into the campaign, because she found herself in a world of trouble for her own comments about Martin Luther King and Lyndon Johnson. Now, I really do think she was intending only to make a sensible point about the value of experience in the White House, but look, the Clintons embody the generation that invented identity politics and political correctness. If Mrs. Clinton couldn’t guess at how that comment was going to land in the black community, then she must have been suffering amnesia.”
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/14/the-clintons-and-history/
I think people need to stop looking at race, exactly what Dr. Ron Paul said. More or less, these aren’t his own words, but the gist of what he said was that the liberals have in place a system that seperates people by race, Americans are more segregated than ever by all these different groups and factions we have splitting us apart. Its starts with race, then it goes down to different groups like gays, or lesbians, then it goes down to political affliations, and on down the line to all the little petty groups we create that seperate us even more.
I’ll give an example, gays proactivly go against the grain of society, and so do blacks, they feel that all people view them as inherently wrong or bad because of their skin tone, or sexual affliation, in truth only a small fraction of bigoted simple minded people feel that way. What they do, is further seperate themselves from the rest of society at their own doing when they paint theirselves out to be the victim. Instead of trying to be normal gay people and fit in with part of society, they paint theirselves as the gay victim, or the black victim. Well people are going to think something is wrong with a person that acts like a victim all the time, and there is something wrong with them. There are tons of black people, and gay people that fit perfectly into society, because they step up to the plate in the face of the few bigoted people and get on with their lives, while some black people, or gay people, or any group that makes themselves out to be the victim, essentialy seperate themselves from soceity by there extreme views. Anyways thats my whole take on how stupid it is to clump yourself into a group, and divide yourself from people by playing a victim.
Yeah I kinda let him slip outta that one. Got him busy jumping around like a frog on a hot rock.
He has the floor.
With her LBJ and MLK comment, Hillary was trying to say that only a white person could enact legislation like the 1964 Civil Rights Act. MLK could talk nice, but it took a white person to get the law passed.
An obvious slam to Obama.
That’s the intent, on the sub-surface.
The true bottom-line intent is this:
Hillary Clinton wanted a media frenzy over the Race Issue to highlight the fact that Obama is (gasp!) black! Hillary Clinton assumes a racist America will be sure to vote for her! And she wants to make sure everyone is reminded of the difference between her skin color, and Obama’s.
It would be like hey, I’m a smoker, I’m a minority because I smoke cigarettes, all you non-smokers are bigoted because you have a problem with my lifestyle, I want smokers rights damnit. See how absurd that is.
I think we should concentrate on makeing all people equal, and everybody is entitled to the same rights. Anybody can be a victim minority if they look hard enough. If your run and exercise and are thin, then your a minority because the majority of America is overweight. Well I want healthy people rights, I’m a healthy person and people don’t like me becasue I exercise and am skinny and healthy, I want some damn rights. the absurdity never ends.
How in the hell is McCain winning in Michigan, are people in Michigan crazy.

Caucasian is an adjective, or can be.
Nearly every noun can be converted to an adjective, including proper nouns.
You are wrong.
Besides, current Black writers want us to capitalize the word, where it applies to race.
I have been doing so for a long time.
You do as you wish, of course.
Juvenile
You did say, on another thread, that we should “move” the state of Israel. That could not be done without enourmous bloodshed.
You did say, on another thread, that we should place explosive land mines, on the Mexican Border, to kill Mexicans.
You did say, frequently, that Mitt Romney’s Mormon religion some how disqualified him to be President.
Oh, ya, you also said that I was “queer for George Bush” — actually, I think you got so crude, on that one, that your comments might have been deleted by the WeBlog, as has happened to you on many of your outrageous posts.
I think it is bigoted to use the word “queer” as an insult.
I think your views towards mining the Mexican border are motivated by racism.
I think your views, towards Israel, are motivated by anti-Semitism.
I think your religious bigotry, towards Mitt Romney, is self evident.
And, of course, you are a Democrat.
A Democrat and a Bigot.
RD
I agree that the capitalization issue is dumb.
However, I did NOT bring it up.
I only point out that contemporary Black writers agree with me.
This is SILLY! Just absolutely STUPID! The Clintons are lots of things but racist is NOT one of their qualities. And this mess was largely started by others- note that Obama never said anything about the matter himself because he prefers to talk about IMPORTANT things and not this crap. Was is stupid for Hillary to be talking about MLK vs LBJ?? YES it was stupid but does that make them racist? NO! Hopefully we can get back on track and discuss the issues again.
Kev
I agree with you.
The Clintons think they are better than everyone, White, Black, Brown, Yellow and Red.
That does not make the Clinton’s “racist” it only makes them snobs.
And, yes, I agree, Hillary’s MLK statements, and the previous “spade work” statements, were STUPID!
Lets not elect people who say such stupid things.
If you have proof of anything you LIE about as to my posts paul. I invite you to show it. You do not get to define my opinions for me.
You better worry about your OWN reputation. Bigot.
OH YEAH, MLK would just be THRILLED with what black people have accomplished.
Black on Black crime
Number of black children without fathers
Rap Music
Portrayal of black woman in the hip hop culture
Drugs rampant in the black community
Yep, he’d be just plain thrilled. Wonder why all Jessie and Al can say is that ALL of this is the white mans fault.
Seeing all the rain in Oregon lately, I had to ask myself, Gene, “why does God hate you?”
If anybody gets tired re reading what has been posted again and again, forward complaints to paulthecon. I will not allow him to defame me.
And if he continues to do so, I may invite him to settle the matter like gentleman.
I have NEVER advocated “killing Mexicans”.
I have said that Israel is in just about the worst possible place it could be and as such is a liability to itself and the United States. That is a fact. I DID suggest it might be better off somewhere else.
I have NOT attacked Mitt Romneys faith. I have posted information about it that you seem to think should not be released. Sorry. I don’t answer to you. Willard Romney has said that “without faith there can be no freedom”. I think I am entitled to an explanation of that faith.
Now we can do this as many times as you like. I could even start posting lies about you. Though the need is not there since you have by yourself destroyed your own credibility.
Doesn’t hate me Cappy.
White male, from large family, poor, never a doubt in my mind that my parents could not send me to college. Worked for everything I have.
Shoot, I’d have done cartwheels and hand stands for the opportunities that a black, high school graduate or college graduate has nowadays, if only they would take them. If only they would stop listening to the Dems telling them that someone OWES them something. If only they would stop listening to Jessie and Al giving them the ready made excuse.
When will the Dems stop the cycle of poor in this country?
“Lets not elect people who say such stupid things.”
Like “putting food on your family” or “is our children learning.”
I agree, let’s not put people in office that say such stupid things.
Poor as in YES, I know what it is to eat chicken five nights a week
And when I call paulthecon “queer” for george bush, I AM insulting…to gay people. I should not connect them in any way to the despicable personage paul.
I might better say paulthecon is so far up bush’s butt he can likely taste what bush had for breakfast. And I’d stand by that.
Apologies go gay people for connecting you in any way to paul. His vote on the marriage amendment might demonstrate even FURTHER bigotry on his part. I suspect so.
Oh and I suspect paul’s concern for the Mexican people is about as deep as his wallet. It is just his sort who would exploit illegal aliens for cheap illegal labor. He does not care that their country is broken. Perhaps HE is a racist. Certainly exploiting people for money is no kindness.
Oh and I need your HELP paul.
There are black people in my neighborhood.
Do I live in a “Black area”?
Do you live in a “White area”?
Can you advise how it is I tell the difference?
Bigot.
“Poor as in YES, I know what it is to eat chicken five nights a week”
Sorry, Mr. Raston, but eating chicken five nights a week does not qualify you as poor. There are people in America that eat store brand hot dogs and macaroni and cheese five nights a week. There are people that eat fried bologna sandwiches and boiled potatoes for dinner. There are children that mayonnaise sandwiches for lunch and saltines and milk for breakfast.
We are the richest country in the world and there are still children in this country that go to bed hungry every night.
By the way, my family’s menu for this week includes three chicken dishes (chicken enchiladas, chicken Parmesan and chicken chili), a breakfast casserole and a roast that was on sale for $1.99 per pound.
And we are far from poor.
I think I know what is going on here. I think the republicans are creating this make believe race vs gender thing to try to pit the dems against each other.
So lets not fall for it. We’re all dems. I’m a Hillary supporter but would turn my support in a Heartbeat to Obama should he win the nomination. I think most will support the dem candidate. Don’t fall for the Faux news tricks. We’re for both candidates.
see, they’re even saying so:
“Referring to Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards, he said that while they may have disagreements, “we share the same goals. We’re all Democrats, we all believe in civil rights, we all believe in equal rights.”
Clinton’s campaign issued a statement in the same vein about an hour or so after Obama spoke, saying it was time to seek common ground. “And in that spirit, let’s come together, because I want more than anything else to ensure that our family stays together on the front lines of the struggle to expand rights for all Americans,” she said.”
I posted as to that earlier political mama.
This was the theme on ALL the hate radio shows today.
FOX news even stopped talking about Brittany Spears to FOCUS on this non story.
Like I said, Rhonda got the memo.
If a child is going humgry in this country, then it’s the parents fault. Where you see hungry kids, you see neglectful parents.
It amazes me how many who depend on food stamps to feed their family usually have money for cigarettes, cell phones, DVD players, etc.
Only in America.
Hungry..not humgry!
“We’re for both candidates.”
You are damned right, P Mom. We might be Hillary supporters or Barack supporters (me) or Edwards supporters, but we are all Democrats and will support the nominee, regardless of which one gets the nod.
Although I would like to see Obama get the nomination, I would not hesitate to campaign for and vote for Hillary Clinton or John Edwards.
The only issue with Hillary’s comments is in the minds of the right wing.
We ain’t gonna fall for the bullshit.
Yeah they’d LIKE to get us fighting about our nominee.
Check out the thread next door on THEIR candidates. BRUTAL!
LBJ may have pushed for the Civil Rights Act, but democrats only came to the table to vote after kicking and screaming AGAINST passage of the Act.
This was the longest filibuster in history, doubling the previous record.
Dixiecrats Over several months in 1964, Southern Democrat Senators, led by Georgia Senator Richard B. Russell led a filibuster against the bill
Contrary to what is often assumed today, a higher proportion of Republicans than of Democrats supported the bill. Its leading advocates included not only Democrats like Sen. Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota and Rep. Emanuel Celler of New York but also Republicans like Sen. Jacob Javits of New York and Rep. William McCulloch of Ohio.
The Congressional Quarterly of June 26, 1964 (p. 1323) recorded that, in the Senate, only 69% of Democrats (46 for, 21 against) voted for the Civil Rights Act as compared to 82% of Republicans (27 for, 6 against). All southern Democratic senators voted against the Act. This includes the current senator from West Virginia and former KKK member Robert C. Bryd and former Tennessee senator Al Gore, Sr. (the father of Bradley’s Democratic opponent). Surely young Bradley must have flunked his internship because ostensibly he did not learn that the Act’s primary opposition came from the southern Democrats’ 74-day filibuster. In addition, he did not know that 21 is over three times as much as six, otherwise he would have become – according to the logic of his statement – a Republican.
In the House of Representatives, 61% of Democrats (152 for, 96 against) voted for the Civil Rights Act; 92 of the 103 southern Democrats voted against it. Among Republicans, 80% (138 for, 34 against) voted for it.
A comment on investment income. Like it or not, with the demise of the traditional pension, our retirement system (IRA/410K) relies on investment income. If investment income is treated unfavorably for tax purposes, then investments will become less desireable. This will reduce demand and thus the value of investments that Americans are now going to have to rely on to live. The 80% plus of Americans who own stock directly or through funds, now have a stake in corporations’ success.
So, if you are for high capital gains rates, you are hurting your Mom. Just the way it is.
“If a child is going hungry in this country, then it’s the parents fault.”
Sorry, Mary, but the stats simply do not bear that out. Food stamps only pay a portion of the grocery bill. Many parents sacrifice their own needs to feed their children. In many areas of the country, there are only minimum wage jobs to be had and $5 or $6 an hour can only go so far. Most minimum wage jobs do not offer affordable health insurance, and parents have to make choices between food and doctor’s visits.
The common thought that parents are buying tobacco, liquor and big screen televisions rather than providing for their children may be true in some cases, but I would venture to say that most parents would starve themselves to provide an adequate meal for their children.
WSCLARK, AND???
Sorry, Clark bar, forgot to put into text, this was the late 50’s early 60’s, chicken WAS the cheapest thing possible.
I guess you missed the point. You are so hard trying to blame someone. You are so for having someone else foot the bill. The nanny state has reached the point, where to tell anyone that they are responsible for their lot in life is taboo. You’re not allowed to tell anyone that they made bad decisions and need to live with those decisions. NO, it is that its not your fault, it has to be the fault of bush, or the corporations or the rich white guy or …
THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT, THEY SHOULD PAY FOR YOUR STUPID DECISIONS.
It’s true I do live in Oregon. This year the nanny state will give out over 75 million taxpayer dollars for college tuition. this is double what was spent last year. This is money that does not have to be paid back. For the past 4 years this state has record enrollment at 95% of the colleges. They are running at capacity, yet for some reason we have to give out even MORE of my hard earned money.
Oregon has the shortest school year (no, this is not a good thing) is ranked near the bottom in overall education and yet spends almost 11,000 dollars per student, per year (this in near the top). Over 58% of this states budget goes to education and STILL don’t have anything to show for the cost. And the teachers unions say they need more money. This is why NCLB was started. It was to tell the states, look we’ve been throwing money at education for decades and yet there is so much failure. DO SOMETHING.
But no, we continue to pay people to be poor. In this state if a married couple makes more than 120,000 they have to pay additional taxes. Thats right, if my wife and I go out get our education, bust our behinds, do the hard work to get the better job to get the better pay, WE ARE PENALIZED FOR IT.
How dare you make more money then the person over here who made bad decision after decision and we the nanny state told him it wasn’t his fault. As the state we keep paying for his bad decisions. Actually the state pays HIM for making bad decisions. But someone has got to be stupid enough to be out there working, busting his ass, paying the taxes, so that we the state can keep paying the stupid ones.
TELL ME THIS ISN’T WHAT HILLARY OR OBAMA OR EDWARDS HAS PLANNED.
The facts are, LBJ may have pushed for the Civil Rights Act, but democrats only came to the table to vote after kicking and screaming AGAINST passage of the Act.

Okay Cappy,
Please tell me how the republicans are gutting the unions?
This ought to be good.
Not only is the country (dems) trying to force wealth redistribution, so are the unions. The union I am FORCED to belong to has their own wealth redistribution. The union dues are based on a percentage of salary, not a flat rate for all members. So again, I go out bust my behind, get and pay for the education, and once AGAIN, I am penalized for it. I pay more in dues, but do I get more representation by the union, NO. Do I receive anything extra for my extra dues, NO. When I posed this question to one of the stewards, I asked if we were to go on strike, would I receive more than others from the union to cover my costs while not working? Uh, that would be a NO, in fact he told me I probably wouldn’t receive ANYTHING from the union.
I pay more in taxes but do I receive more in representation by my government, NO. You Gene are strictly here to foot the bill you stupid hard working guy.
A political joke, not far from true.
A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon a new Restaurant operated by a fellow cannibal.
Feeling somewhat hungry, he sat down and looked over the menu…
Broiled Missionary: $10.00
Roasted Guide: $12.00
Fried Explorer: $15.00
Grilled Republican: $50.00
Deep Fried Independent: $250.00
Baked Democrat: $500.00
The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, “Why such a price difference for the Politicians, especially the Democrats?”
The cook replied, “Have you ever tried to clean one? They’re so full of shit, it takes all morning.”
“You are so hard trying to blame someone.”
Bullshit. That is absolute nonsense. I am not trying to blame anyone for anything, but the facts are that there are REAL poor and homeless people in this country that deserve better. There are at least 195,000 American VETERANS that are homeless, yet the Republican establishment would lead us to believe that these people deserve their fate.
Until we recognize that there are issue of class disparity and poverty in this country, the problem will continue to grow until we reach the point of revolution.
And by the way, Mr. Raston, I referred to you with the title of Mister – kindly do not refer to me as Clark Bar. There is no need for Mr. or Sir, but my name is not a joke.
Thank you.
ho-ho, oh boy you libs really can turn things around.
First Clinton made the comment.
Then Clinton blamed Obama for the comment.
Then Obama said he didn’t say a word.
AND NOW THIS IS ALL REPUBLICANS FAULT?!!
You guys are rich. Paranoid or living in fairy tales. But rich.
“You are so hard trying to blame someone.”
Bullshit. I am not trying to blame anyone. That is completely nonsense.
There are many poor and homeless people in this country. They are not there by choice. At least 195,000 American veterans are homeless. They did not choose to be homeless. They do not choose to go hungry.
Until we recognize that there are people in this country that do need help, we will continue grow the numbers of poor and homeless until there is revolution.
And revolution has happened in every country that has allowed the gap between the haves and havenots to grow unchecked.
And, Mr. Raston – I referred to you respectfully as “Mister.” I would appreciate it if you would not refer to me as “Clark Bar.” My name is not a joke. I responded to you respectfully, I would expect the same from you. You do not need to address me as “Sir” or “Mr.” but to call me Clark Bar only serves reinforce the perception that you look down on others.
Like poor people and the homeless.
So that’s very telling Gene, that you think you are somewhat more important than the others and deserving of more. I think a percentage is pretty fair. I’ll imagine you paid a lower percentage when you started, so whatever man.
Talk about a whiner…you fit in well with the Repubs.
JTF, we already know the issues surrounding the dixiecrats in the democratic party. That doesn’t mean squat today when it is Republicans who have taken up the old Dixiecrat platform beliefs. Why do you the south is so heavily Republican today?
If I were alive back then, I’d likely had been a republican. But since that party isn’t the same, I’m a democrat.

Uh, NO. Or if you do- they may be gifts to the kids from grandparents. I’m so sick of this belief that a poor person must be without everything in order to be poor. My job today requires that I have current insurance, a decent vehicle, and a cell phone. I make 8.50 at that job.
If I were a single parent, wouldn’t you consider me to be poor? Yet, I would still have to have those things in order to survive. So whatever Mary.
Someone needs to remind the Republicans that yesterdays Southern Democrats, the Dixiecrats, are todays Republicans.
The Southerners abandoned the Republican Party after the Civil War and stayed away for more than a century, until the Seventies and Eighties.
At that time, Southern Dems like Richard Shelby of Alabama and other defected to the Republican Party. Today, nearly all Southern Senators and Governors are Republican.
The Democratic Senators that voting against the Civil Rights Act in the Sixties would be todays Republicans like Trent Lott, Haley Barbour, Saxby Chambliss, Jeff Sessions and Thad Cochran.
Those that claim that Democrats failed to support the Voting Rights Act conveniently choose to ignore the Dixiecrat conversion to the Republican Party.
Political Mama,
In what wierd and out of this world way would you think that is fair.
So you and I walked into a clothing store. You and I pick out the exact same shirt. You go to the register to purchase the shirt. The clerk asks how much money you make, you tell the clerk you make 25,000 a year. The clerk tells you that the shirt will cost you 10.00.
I then go up to the clerk to pay for the exact same shirt. The clerk asks me and I say that I make 60,000 a year. The clerk says that the cost of the shirt to me is 60.00.
Now tell me in what world (other than a dems) that this would be fair???
I apologize Mr. Clark, I got use to dealing with ol Cappy there.
“Now tell me in what world (other than a dems) that this would be fair???”
Every civilized country in the world has a progressive income tax system. The US has had a progressive income tax system since the first days of the IRS. Are you proposing that system should be discarded?
How convenient, Mr. Raston.
Would you propose that a flat tax system be instituted? Studies have shown that the only winners with a flat tax system are the rich and richer.
The poor and middle class are the ones that bear the burden.
You libs really can turn things around.

I think court mandated forced busing was wrong.
However, the race riots that happened, after forced bussing, were often in Northern Democrat cities like Boston.
http://www.enjoyma.com/ptr/77
There were many race riots in America. It is wrong to single out the South:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_incidents_of_civil_unrest_in_the_United_States#1960s
Also, Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, former “Grand Po-Ba” of the KKK, is still a Democrat, and still in the US Senate.

What if the “flat tax” starts at, say, $30,000.00.
Everything below that, is tax free?
How would that be unfair?
I am sorry for your brothers and sisters in your union that they are forced to endure you and your probably endless wishes for scabbery.
Too bad we can’t trade. Here in Kansas, we have “right to work”. What THAT of course means is that union membership is voluntary. The result is that folks like you do not pay dues. Such as you is also the type that screams loudest when you NEED the union. I’ve met MANY. I even had to defend a few of them. Voluntary membership in unions weakens them to the point of impotence because there are always weak whiny sisters like you who would rather toe the line and say YES SIR! to anything the boss asks of you.
Count yourself LUCKY you have the union that you do.
If you don’t pay your union dues, because, you don’t want to, the Juvenile calls you a “scab” —
If you don’t want to pay for your own health insurance, the Juvenile calls you a “good Democrat” (like him!)
Gene–
One of Reagan’s first acts as President was to destroy the Air Traffic Controller’s Union during their strike by firing qualified, experienced workers and replacing them with scabs.
This not only busted the Union but put air travellers at risk.
It’s been downhill from there.
As for your Union charging more the more you make, that’s perfectly appropriate. They have benefitted you more because you make higher wages.
You always have the option of asking for a lower salary so your union dues can go down. How would that be?
Bottom line, Mr. Raston, anybody like you who’s working for wages and a union man to boot AND who’s voting RepubliCON, there’s no reasoning with you.
You’re already gone.
Oh LOOK the bigot scab is back.
You and paul should get acquainted Gene. I suspect you share much in common. paul is a whiny sellout TOO.
Hey paul did you not see? I need your help.
Do I live in a “Black area”? Is there signs or something?
Mega dittos, JR.
That’s been my experience too–the fence-sitters think they can get union benefits without sacrificing for the benefit of all.
Can’t happen.
And you’re correct about “right to work” state–it’s a euphamism for “right to can your sorry ass for any reason we want to including no reason at all.”
Yeah I knew lotsa guys like that Capn. Good folks but just determined to cut their own throat.
And mine to, if it would get them ahead.
Divide and conquer. American business 101.
This is not concerning the tax system but the problem with how you and political mom should decide how people should be rewarded for their hard work and doing what is needed to do improve their lives.
You seem to think that because I did everything right and to the best of my ability that I should somehow be punished for that. That I took responsibility for my life and decisions that it is wrong for me to think that I should have any right to what I worked for.
I thought that was what this country was built on. That whatever you want to accomplish, you have the right to. Thas kind of what I don’t understand about Edwards. He supposedly came from nothing, did everything himself, but for some reason, he thinks everyone else should be given it.
Well Edwards made his bit….fighting greedy and neglectful corporations there Gene.
I think he is very acquainted with what American working people face. He’s dealt with the abuses of the policies of the brass.
As I said previously, there’s no reasoning with him.
No one is saying that a person should be “punished” for hard work and playing by the rules.
Far from it. We’re saying you shouldn’t be exploited by people in positions of power who take your all your productivity and put it into their own pockets.
That’s what your union has in large part protected you from.
But instead of gratitude, you resent having to pay them for making sure you aren’t replaced by a seventeen year old with a bad haircut who’ll work for half your salary without health insurance.
BTW, Mr. Raston, how’d you like my idea of voluntarily earning less so that you don’t have to pay so much in union dues?
Great idea, right?
Yes Gene, and if you are SO bloddy hard working and accomplished? Why not find a job that does not have a union? I am sure they are available in Oregon.
Perhaps you could pick cherries?
Oh but there are those union benefits and seniority to weigh in the equation. SO you’ll stay in your union job with your union won benefits, pay, and rights, and you will whine about having to be (against your will) just a little bit bigger than yourself.
so Cappy your idea of sacrifice is that someone who worked harder than you, took the time and effort to bring himself up, doing what needs to be done to give himself a better life should be paying more than you.
Where is your sacrifice? What you are basically saying is that the union should give to everyone, no matter what. Because they didn’t want to apply themselves, someone owes them. TADA, welcome the union. The only time I’ve been in trouble in my job, I had NO, NONE, NADA union representation there, I REFUSED IT. Did I get into real trouble, no, because the first thing I did was admit, that I screwed up, because I did. I made the mistake, I learned from it. I will never have a union rep. If I screw up in my job that is my fault, I won’t hide behind a union.
Liberalism defined:
It is ok to suck at the government teet, without producing.
However, NEVER dare to force the Union to compete for your loyalty!
A good Union does not have to beg for members, they earn their membership.
When Unions go bad, as many do, members should be able to quit. Especially when the Union gets into organized crime:
http://www.unionfreeamerica.com/union_corruption.htm
I WORK for my pay. I get the pay I earn because of my hard work. I see PLENTY, that if they were not in a union job and I was their boss, they would have been gone LONG ago.
Well it’s really simple Gene. Quit. Come to Kansas or another “right to work” state and get busy!
Oh but you won’t You will bitch about your union. But you will keep your seniority and your benefits.
Paul sold out. Now the union he was in is dead. The store it was in too. NOW there are only two major stores in Wichita. They charge what they like and treat their employees any way they wish. One of them will shortly lose in the death struggle. Then there will only be one grocery/retailer.
And they will have their workers AND their customers just wherever they decide to put them.
It’s called feudalism. Fight it or embrace it.

Are you paying union dues?
Why not? Does that make you a scab?
Aren’t there labor union workers that do the same work as you, in your private service business?
I am sure they would take your money, if you offered!
Of course, you ought to use that money to buy your own health insurance.
I belonged to a Union. I never crossed a picket line. I paid my dues. I was never a “scab” — I have never crossed a picket line. I even went on strike once.
However, I argued against a strike, the second time the vote came up. The majority of the membership agreed with me. Others did not. The truck that I drove, to that strike vote, was vandalised. So much for Union Democracy!
There are thugs in every Labor Union. Members must be allowed to quit the Union, as a way to keep the Union honest.
Thanks for helping me prove my point too Gene.
John Edwards made a fortune in penalizing the greed and abuse of corporations. And a jury found his claims sound. TRULY that is a mother lode. IF it is explored.
Oh don’t try to BS me paul.
And no I do not work in a field that employs union labor. This is Kansas REMEMBER? I compete against the illegal aliens that YOU want here illegal and exploited.
I’ve known folks like you. You sold out your union. Probably you did it for a raise or an elevated position. That would be very like you.
THEN without the union, the company died. You moved on. Now you peddle policies and deny claims. Now you take the money of others and make them more money.
You are a parasite Paul. You make your living on the backs of others.
This is John Edwards HOME:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVcXPKH8laA
A Kansas Lawyer was quoted, in national press accounts, concerning John Edwards’ cases:
“Eldon L. Boisseau of the Kansas-based firm Turner and Boisseau, which specializes in defending doctors’ insurance companies from medical malpractice lawsuits, said he believed “junk science” was used by lawyers in cases similar to those Edwards argued during his legal career.”
http://www.cnsnews.com/Culture/Archive/200402/CUL20040202a.html
Do you imagine anyone still clicks your links paul?
You are the single most despicable pretender of a human being anyone cam read and in your own words.
If Edwards were a republican, you’d damn near canonize him, and genuflect when he entered the room —
LOL
I work my ass off. I always have.
I was 19 years old, and still going to Marine Reserve drills, when I joined a labor union. I never quit paying dues, the entire time I worked for Safeway. I simply got a better job.
I have always worked my ass off.
You know, that part of the body you sit upon, all day, while you complain.
A “parasite” is something that lives off the labor of others. Much like a liberal Democrat that wants someone else to pay for his health insurance. Much like YOU!
You seem to envy anyone that makes money through the use of their brain.
There is nothing wrong with manual labor. In fact, sometimes I still miss it. However, you get paid more if you use your brain.
You should try it.
Also, there are Unions representing just about every industry and every trade. You could still belong to one, if you wanted to. My guess is that the Union bosses don’t want to deal with you.
Well Paul I had health insurance from birth til the age of 4 years ago.
It was union won health insurance. And even in my early misguided Republican days, I’d not have opposed health care for all.
I personally paid for the abortion for a victim of abuse and rape when I had the funds to do so. It was a little before that that I caught on to the hypocrisy of the right.
Ya sold out paul. You sell out still. And I may not have the money that you do. And according to YOUR definition, I probably live in a “Black area”. Whatever that is. But I can look myself in the mirror and not flinch. You can look in your wallet and maybe not flinch?
I wonder who’s running for President Bill Clinton or Hillary or both together. By the way it’s Bill’s tenth Anniversary of Oral history. This is reported in a UK paper instead of ours.

Edwards must be gaining. Paul is trying to pick on him.
Thanks for the validation! :)

I have Black neighbors.
We are good friends. The kids especially.
Still, there is nothing wrong with studying neighborhoods and minority concentrations.
The School District does it.
The US Census does it.
There are areas of the country where Black people make up a very high concentration of the voters.
They deserve to have representation. I think Whites can represent Blacks. I also think that Blacks can represent Whites.
However, it is common for minorities to favor someone with their own background.
Actually, that is common for all of us.
It is not always racism.
Paul is a bully because paul is a whining coward mr.c.
Edwards and Dems want to offer help and hope.
Paul offers scorn and blame and division. This is the fault of his party and his own personal weakness. HE sold out. So everyone else has to as well. It makes him feel better.
This is indicative he still has a soul. After this I’ll be writing Ripley.
You bailed on the fight Paul. When your fellow workers needed you, you ran away. I think you are ashamed of that. Though I’ll not pretend at mental expertise as you do when you attack me.
You CHOSE to be for sale paul. Don’t force that on others. Take your losses and failings and learn from them. You certainly have a capacity to fight. Make that fight bigger than you, yourself and yours.
Its a sad things those unions, it looks like the writers strike is reinforcing this. I think unions just don’t know when to stop, they push it too far, but the idea of unions are good. Unions are what paved the way for workers rights against abuses, but the unions have abused the power they had themselves. If it wasn’t for unions we might still have children working in mines. I guess some people can’t put a vaule on their hard work and are willing to give theirselves away. I personally believe in people working hard and getting paid their worth, but thats not how it works. My point being, at one of my first jobs, I learned the more I busted my buns, the more work they expected from me, and I wasn’t compensated for my hard labor so I realized you have to give what you get, so I gave less hard work and got paid the same and eventually got a raise. Putting more hard work into ass kissing pays way more dividends than actually working harder. Hell, if people were paid according to how hard they work, I’d be one the hardest damn workers to ever exist.

I think people are confused by Edwards passion to help end poverty in our country, as giving people something for nothing. I believe this is wrong. I also think this makes sense, especially considering money I am sure we give third world countries to do the same thing.
If you actually read his policies he has posted in his book at his site, you will see the following tenets to help do this.
The Edwards Plan to End Poverty
* Reward work
* Create opportunity
* Support responsible families
Some specifics…
* Raise the national minimum wage to $9.50 an hour
by 2012 and set it to keep rising each year.
* Cut taxes for low?income workers by tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for adults without
children.
* Phase out housing projects that tie families to fixed locations that are lower?quality and more expensive than private?sector alternatives
* Create new Work Bonds to match low?income
working families’ savings.

WE, I agree with this statement wholeheartedly:
“Putting more hard work into ass kissing pays way more dividends than actually working harder. Hell, if people were paid according to how hard they work, I’d be one the hardest damn workers to ever exist.”
The problem is, I”m not an ass kisser and I’m not willing to bend my values to play that game. I’m a nice enough person, but no, if a boss expects me to just kiss ass I’m going to have issues. And I have also found that as a woman, we are expected to be the ‘yes’ girls and make peace, but if we put forth a more assertive face, we’re cut down for that.
Juvenile
How did I “bail on the fight”?
You are a thug. You do not believe in majority rule or the rights of the minority.
I had a right, at a strike meeting, to argue against a strike. My side won that vote. We did not go on strike. Then, thugs like you vandalized my vehicle.
You make absolutely no logical sense.
To you, a “sell out” is anyone who earns a living through hard work, rather than your method:
Forcing people to pay you off so they don’t have to deal with you.
Your method is extortion.
My method is honest labor.
Back to the opening point of this thread.
In listening to some political pros, on TV, the thought came up that Bill Clinton’s attack on Sister Soulja, as well as his “end welfare as we know it” were “code words”.
The thinking, affirmed even by those who used to work for the Clintons, is that they use race to worry the White folks, in the primary, and then they try to win the Black folks back, in the general.
Until this year, it worked great for them.
Oh the bigot sneaked back into take more accusatory shots at someone who is not a bigot.
Yeah better sharpen your lies…er darts there paulie.
Mike Huckabee wants to rewrite God into the Constitution. He is on record saying so.
So HE’s toast.
Romney FINALLY won one and in Michigan?
Well maybe the Republicans in Michigan think he will fix their economy with a corporate raid. That is what Romney is good at. But he’s not electable either.
Ditto Ron Paul His own PARTY is tearing him to pieces.
And McCain same thing.
Rudy aint even in the race until it’s over and Thompson is still asleep.
Now you can bet with that field of duds, they will have to do some particularly nasty stuff to even get attention.
And little rats like econ will be here doing it for them.
And I’ll do for him.
Very creative Juvenile.
I call the Juvenile a bigot because:
He called me queer.
He attacke the religion of Mitt Romney.
He wants to blow up Mexicans on the Border with Land Mines.
He wants to abolish the current state of Israel.
(He won’t support Obama, either, but, well, he says it is because Obama is too “nice’)
So, now the “creative” Juvenile calls ME a bigot?
I had Black and Mexican frat brothers, who lived with me, in the same dorm, in college.
I have Black neighbors who are good friends.
My girlfriend is an Aunt to Black children.
Very creative, Juvenile.
I called you a bigot, with good reason, because you are a bigot. Your own words convict you.
So, you call me a bigot in return?
It won’t stick. Those who know me are laughing at you.
Those who know you keep their distance, I am sure.
Hillary goes to court to keep minorities from voting:
