Obama on his faith

obamachurchSetting aside all the viral e-mails claiming that Barack Obama is a radical Muslim, some people do have questions about his Christian faith. For those interested, here is a Q&A he did with Christianity Today that discusses his faith, abortion, etc.

I would give the Senator an “A” on his answers. He appeared to be sincere.

The Constitution says no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

That would include all candidates, not just Obama.

When we are expected too answer to one another under the premice or eyes of a God, and how we treat eachother in that, why woulkd an American Candidate be any different?? We scale or judge eachother on the basis of truth and the Motives or origins for what we find to be the truth. Religion is seperate of course. Yet it is the foundation for the origin of each Motive and Intention of action and actions within the Opportunity of being born and interacting with eachother within that. I agree; Obama’s religion is irrelevant. He need not prove he’s a Christian, nor that he has any faith (though for practical political reasons, were he Muslim - and no, I am NOT asserting same - it would be politically a liability).

Would that some posters here show the same class to Romney, who likewise has no need to specify the doctrinal details of his faith. It’s equally irrelevant.

Why the questions as to Obama’s faith and none of the same for Willard Romney?

In last the recent Republican debate, Willard Romney was confronted with a statistic.

44% of Americans will not vote for him because of uncertainty about his Mormon faith.

Romney answered this with, “I know my faith is not well understood.”

Which of course did NOTHING to explain that faith or educate people as to it.

Sorry, my eyes lost focus when I noticed it was from ‘Christianity Today’, self-promoted magazine of evangelical conviction. As a rule, I’ve noticed those who promote christianity the most are the biggest liars, cheats, and cut-throats. Every dealings I’ve had with ‘Christian’ businesses I’ve gotten the shaft, so consequently steer well clear of them.
But like their subtitle suggests, they’re convinced they’re right and everyone else is wrong.

Apparently, Obama was no more a “friend” to a “slumlord” than were the Clintons, here is a picture of Bill, Hillary, and Rezco together:

    You misstate the pole.
44% of America thinks that Romney’s Mormon faith will be an obstacle in the election.
Those people would include many who wish to VOTE for Romney.

    A similar pole could ask:

Is race still an obstacle, to being President?

Is gender still an obstacle, to being President”

    — And, I would imagine, similar results to that poll.

By the way, I DO believe that Obama is a Christian.

However, there are some valid concerns, since there are Moslems in his family tree. If he was considered “Moslem” at birth — the penalty for leaving the Moslem faith, under Sharia law, is death.

I don;t see any problem with Obamas interview about his religion. Looks like the stuff that most Americans would agree with. BUt even if it is not, who cares. I don;t support someone based on their religion. I support someone based on two things—THeir character, and their politics. If their character and politics are grounded in their religious beliefs, fine with me. If they are grounded in humanism, also fine with me. I do not care for Obama. Not because he is black, not because of his lack of experience, Not because he has ties to any particular religion or church. I don;t care for him because of his positions on many topics. However, If given the choice between Obama, and Hillary, or even likely the rest of the Dems, I would campaign for Obama. So far, he seems to be an honest, sincere person. I can deal with that, even if I disagree with them. Hillary has no character, and no integrity. at least in my opinion. Hillary will say whatever it takes to get elected (not unlike most politicians of today I might add). THen she will do what she damn well pleases.I think that Obama has a true desire to change things for the better. I primarily disagree with him on methodology. Have a great day

Paulie, I dont think Hillary took money from Rezko. Obama did.

And how ironic that you were adamant that pictures of bush and abramhoff were no big deal. But pictures of the clintons with rezko are a very big deal.

Oh, and btw, bush took LOTS of money from abramhoff the “pioneer”.

Is it all still no big deal? Then STFU about the democrats.

Personally, I’m apt to believe Rezko has photos with all politians. Once I had one of myself with Square Bob Sponge Pants Dole. They’re happy for the photo-ops. Rezko could just be willing to sell them off to the highest bidder as need arises.

GMC - I would agree with you about Romney EXCEPT - he seemed to imply that one must be of one of the versions of Christianity to be in his government. So, people like me would be counted out based on a religion test.

    Ben,

It still amazes me that you are the professional educated man you are and you still believe such absolute garbage.

Think about what you just said:

    “seemed to imply”

    What does that even mean?

Basically, you are reading way too far into a statement. Then again, you do have a history here for completely distroting things the Bible says let alone what Christians say as well.

Nobody’s “distroting” anything about Romney’s religion speech.

He was pretty specific in his assertion that you need religion to be an American.

    BUUUUUZZZZZZ!

    Wrong.

You have all the freedom in the world to worship whomever and whatever cooks for you. But the Constitution of the United States of America specifically and explicitly removes religion from the operation of government.

Hillary Clinton trashed Obama for his relationship to a man that Hillary and Bill were also connected to.

Well Paul - perhaps he is willing to expand Christian to Judeo-Christian. Still excludes those of my ethnicity who have remained faithful to our heritage. And we were here long before the Europeans came here.

NNathan - your accusation against me are lies. And I got it directly from Romney.

Since I am happily married to a Christian I have no reason to “completely distroting things the Bible says let alone what Christians say as well.”

Only what SOME ChristISTS say - the ones who want to enforce their religion on other.

BTW - when I had heart surgery I named three people to have the power to pull the plug - all Catholic Christian. People who were close to me family and to me (One was my wife)

The relationship between a man and his God is between him and his God. I do not put a cent into which God a man worships or if he even has a God. Even if Obama was a Muslim- which he is not- I would not give a damn so long as he keeps his relationship between him and his God out of the running of the country. I can never vote for any candidate that wishes to insert his religious views into public life (Huckabee comes to mind).
