Obama bringing momentum to El Dorado

obama3.jpgBarack Obama needed a big win in Saturday’s South Carolina primary to regain some momentum from Hillary Clinton — and, boy, did he get it, routing Clinton by 28 points. Obama will get another boost with Democratic loyalists when Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., endorses him Monday. And then what will Obama do Tuesday? Hold a rally in El Dorado. Click here to make a reservation. But Obama still faces a big challenge in winning the nomination, as the demographics in the rest of the states may favor Clinton, who has done better with white, female and older voters.

This white female older voter will need to see more civility before she will get my vote. I always figure when you need to demean someone else rather than tout your own plans, you may not have anything worth talking about. Kinda like some posters here who can bring negative after negative about how terrible it will be to elect Hillary yet they never have anything positive to say about another candidate.

I know politics is nasty and mean. If someone makes an untrue accusation I think it should be defended, explained, defused. I see no reason why behaving as poorly as someone else may be behaving is necessary. That’s like those who justify the US torturing because other countries do.

    Wrong is wrong!

OK. There must be some grand strategy here that I don’t see.

Obama is pending precious campaign time in El Dorado to convince Red Kansas to turn blue?

Is he out of his mind?

Maybe it’s nothing more than every delegate is important.

There have been happenings these last seven years under bushco I wouldn’t have been able to fathom.

Many people see how badly change is needed. I certainly think Kansans are smart people and think smart people can easily tell there are no Republican candidates worth voting for.

I want all of you to ask yourselves “who has the most to gain with a racial divide within the Democratic Party”. Then think of the words “divide and conquer”.

Hillary Clinton would be stupid to disrespect such a large voting block, knowing full well the people, if angry enough, will vote republican.
So who benefits from a false campaign to disenfranchise black voters? The republicans do, of course. Listen to the right wing pundits, and they’re the ones fanning the flames as fast as they can.

Don’t fall for it. The democrats know Obama and Hillary are both good candidates. Whoever wins, will likely get all of the votes from the other. Neither side would be smart to alienate themselves from the other candidate’s backers.

    Florida Senator to Endorse Clinton
By BETH FOUHY – 2 days ago

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Florida Sen. Bill Nelson plans to endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton, a major gain for the Democratic presidential candidate in a state that’s at odds with the national party over its primary date yet remains a swing state in November’s general election.

Nelson is slated to make the endorsement on Tuesday, the same day as the primary, according to senior Democrats close to Clinton who spoke on condition of anonymity because the formal announcement was scheduled later in the week.

Word of the endorsement came on the same day that Clinton called for delegates from Florida and Michigan to be seated at the Democratic National Convention. The national party punished Florida Democrats for scheduling their primary before Feb. 5 by stripping all 210 delegates to the convention.

Nelson and Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., had filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Democratic National Committee, but a federal judge ruled in favor of the DNC for stripping the state of delegates for the convention.

All the major Democratic candidates made pledges not to campaign in those states before their primaries.

Clinton could claim most of the Michigan delegates because she won that state’s primary after the other major candidates pulled their names from the ballot.

“I know other campaigns have tried to downplay the significance of these two states,” Clinton told reporters in South Carolina Friday. “I think that is not a good strategy for Democrats or any of us who cares about the outcome of this election.”

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said Friday, “Now that Senator Clinton’s worried about losing the first Southern primary (in South Carolina Saturday), she’s using Florida for her own political gain by trying to assign meaning to a contest that awards zero delegates and where no campaigning has occurred.” Obama supporters in Florida had expected Nelson to endorse Clinton.

Nelson was elected to the Senate in 2000, the same year Clinton won her New York seat, and the two serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee. The moderate Democrat and former House member cruised to re-election in 2006, capturing 60 percent of the vote against Katherine Harris.

Nelson was a crew member of the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1986.

Now there’s a demographic that’s oddly phrased and as about as congruent as a random sack of mixed nuts.

Obama most likely appeals to young voters because he is fairly young, with a young family. The same sort of attraction that JFK had.

It will be interesting to see the turnout in El Dorado as well as the media carnival that will no doubt descend on the small town.

Stock up on those disposable cameras El Dorado and put fresh pies out for all those hungry visitors and reporters. :)

“Regular” never fails us. His latest –

    “Older, white women…

“Now there’s a demographic that’s oddly phrased and as about as congruent as a random sack of mixed nuts.”

(wonder what his sister will think of that remark?)

Obama’s Kansas visit seems like a fluke in the campaign schedule; he’s probaly en route to California and they’ve got a couple of hours to kill.

But Democrats and Republic Party advocates forget that Obama isn’t merely a “black candidate.” Yes, the South Carolina Democratic primary was about 50% African-American voters, and the Clintons’ race-baiting backfired. But a trip to a somewhat Spanish-sounding lily-white town in Kansas is gonna shift the conversation. (Provided he pronounces it “El Dor-AYE-Do,” not “Wel Do-RAH-Do.”)

When Obama was elected to the Senate from Illinois, no one thought he could carry the southern half of the state (at least until Alan Keyes became the Republic Party’s carpetbagger nominee). Fact is, the farmers and Cons in southern Illinois *loved* Obama early on.

I suspect this is a convenient strategic stop for Obama. If he screws up or doesn’t attract people in small-town Kansas… no big deal. If he wins some Super-Delegates and shows that even a small rural state can be in play with his candidacy, he’s golden.

It would be a perfect moment in Michelle Obama speaks first and calls it “El-do-RAH-do,” then catches herself; just like the “Ne-Vah-da”/”Ne-Vadd-a” moment a couple of weeks ago. And then if she went on and said something like, “That’s why we’re in El-Dor-RAY-do Kansas instead of Neh-VAY-da Missouri! Or is it Missour-uh?”

It’d be a little regional insider joke the mainstream media might not catch, but it would convey the Obama campaign’s theme that this is an election for all Americans.

I’ll take your $50 buck bet, “Kansas.” But I kinda think he’ll talk more about Kansas than El Dorado; I mean, their campaign will know full well that all the people in the crowd won’t be locals.

Obama should get the Kansas vote. Another eigth years of Bill Clinton scare the daylights out of me.
Not because of his policies, but because I think it is wrong for America to be run by one family for such a long period. It was confusing enough the first time, when the first lady promoted healthcare reform. She was not elected and served no public office. And that is what scares me about Bill. He appears to be running again, promoting his record, as hers – and if he is this active during the election, what happens once in power?

We have plenty of fine democratic leaders. Anyone of them will be an improvement over Bush and all will bring a breath of fresh air to the white house.

Hillary brings old laundry, and will further divide the American people.

The cynicism in this thread makes me want to puke. Obama is running a positive campaign, trying to uplift people in this country. He’s trying to get people to come together and work together for change. Take your negativity somewhere else!

Barack is coming to El Dorado because his grandparents are originally from there, they owned a furniture store in downtown El Dorado when Obama’s mom was a little girl. Barack was raised partially by his grandparents and was very close to them. That is why he is coming to El Dorado.

Obama is the only candidate who has a campaign office in this state. He has received more campaign donations than any other Democrat from donors in this state. I, myself, sent him $25. He is the only Democrat to campaign in the state of Kansas since 1960! Him coming to El Dorado is historic!

Here is a link to a great series of articles from the Chicago Tribune on Obama’s life. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/chi-obama-life-storygallery,0,1773480.storygallery

I suspect he might talk about his mother who was born in Wichita and who died of ovarian cancer in 1995 worrying about how she might pay her medical bills.

It’s a natural set-up to his stump speech that there is no “Red” America or “Blue” America; it’s the *United* States of America. (Which, by the way, takes a shot at John Edwards’ “Two Americas” speaking points. I’m an Edwards supporter, but Obama’s addressed Edwards’ basic theme better than anyone.)

If a lot of Kansans show up Tuesday, it’s gonna bug the hell out of the Clintons. If it’s nothing, it’s nothing. A win-win tactical move for Obama.

And here’s a question: Will Kathleen Sebelius show up at Butler Country JuCo? I doubt it. But if she does, it’ll be beeeg news. (And, realistically, if all the chatter about Sebelius being a potential running-mate, it doesn’t make sense that two women would end up on a Hillary-led ticket.)

If she’s there, the super-deligates and the Kansas Democratic Party are going for Obama… which might not be all that surprising once you think about it. Sebelius has worked with non-Movement Republic Party extremists; Kansas has elected former Republic Party moderates in rejection of Movement wingnuts.

Obama is in El Dorado because showing up in Wichita would bring out the Abortion Abolition Crazies. El Dorado will be portrayed in the national media as a visit to a small town in a Red State and if it works it’ll work; if it doesn’t, no loss.

Unless you can prove to the contrary, my money is that “Romney’s best friends’ old college professors’ cousnins’ best friend…” did *not* know whatever you’re trying to prove.

Part of the Obama message (and I still remain strong for Edwards) is that we Americans have so much more in common than differences.

I’m not yet convinced that Obama has the political strength to turn truth into policy. But I tend to tilt toward truth when I’m pressed.

We all know (or should know) that Mittens Romney will, in fact, sleep before all ths lost jobs in Michigan return. We all know (or should know) that McCain’s Hundred Year War in Iraq is perhaps not a good idea. We all know (or should know) that Mike Huckabee’s version of a King James Version of the the Constitution of the United States really isn’t what America is all about.

What I’m seeing is Republic Party partisans and so-called “conservative” advocates desperately trying to manipulate any and every reality into something that somehow justifies their ideology.

It’s not working, given the strong forces of reality.

Conservative philosophy failed in the 1890s, the 1920s, the 1950s, the 1980s, and the 2008s.

And now the Cons are arguing that, “Well, maybe now, we’re due to be right!”

People can read the entire thread, but anyone will have to deal with “Obama reminds of JFK. Let’s give him a shot!” and figure it out for themselves. Let’s consider the exclamation point, for starters.

I just got my ticket to the Obama rally in El Dorado. It specifies certain security precautions. Those precautions didn’t come from the Obama campaign, they came from the Secret Service.

The Secret Service is afraid as hell that someone will approach Barrack Obama with a concealed handgun, for whatever reason.

So imagine yourself to be a non-political Secret Service agent and you come upon someone who says: “Obama reminds of JFK. Let’s give him a shot!”

“Obama reminds me of JFK. Let’s give him a shot!”

You can tap dance all you want, but your words reveal your intent.

Maybe you really didn’t realize what your words revealed. But we know what you had in mind.

What is the single-most memorable event of the John F. Kennedy presidency? It’s November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

For anyone to cite a current presidential candidate and say, “Obama reminds me of JFK. Let’s give him a shot!” is pretty clear.

You, “Closet Lib” are either stupid, ignorant, or evil. Take your pick. Own it. Accept it.

When you say, “Obama reminds of JFK. Let’s give him a shot!” you’ve revealed your agenda.

    Good on you political mama.

I remain flabbergasted that so many on my side think the right can be worked with or respected in any way.

Let us remember what Reagan was.

Reagan was a former union leader and Democrat who sold out everything he believed in because Nancy wanted nice things.

Given his respect and laurels for Reagan, it is fair to speculate that Obama is similarly motivated. It is fair to speculate that Obama is just not honest enough to change his party affilliation.

I will continue to oppose Obama and actively until he proves otherwise.

Not insinuating anything, just trying to make the point that young people being reduced to a few sentences as a voter demographic makes people look generally stupid.

“Hey, that Obama is a pretty sharp looking guy, he’s young, and black, that might bring about change, I don’t know what his political views are because he doesn’t have much of a platform, but I’m just a mindless voter whittled down into a demographic, and I might just vote for him because he sounds like Martin Luther King in his speeches.” Can I say that, I won’t be labeled a racists will I? Attacking candidates, over personal matters is one thing, especially when those personal matters are public, or where public policy is involved, or where legal action is involved..

However, your “opposition research” into other posters here, just makes clear what a hateful jerk you are.

You LIKE the Clinton “war room” — you LIKE dirty politics. You LIKE personal attacks for no reason other than to intimidate or destroy.

(Kind of like Hillary hitting Obama over Rezko, a man his law firm ordered him to represent. Hillary, on the other hand, VOLUNTARILY met for a photo op with Rezko. Hillary the hypocrit. You LIKE that kind of behavior, huh?)

Grow up. No poster, on this Blog, deserves to be attacked for anything other than what is posted, on this Blog, by that poster.

No candidate, not even the devious, hateful Clintons, would EVER allow you to run their campaign. In fact, no Democrat in the state, who knows of your postings, on this Blog, would ever want your picture in their brochure, or to be seen with you, in public.

    You have no class.

    Obama does.

I disagree with Obama, but I would trust the man with my car or my kids. I also trust Obama to tell the truth.

I actually think Obama would be hard for the Republicans to defeat.

    Juvenile
    It is NOT your Blog.

“Even a broken clock is right twice a day” as they say.

This Blog is for the free exchange of ideas. This Blog is not a grade school play ground. You do not get to tell us who we can and can not agree with. We can change our alliances, at will, as it should be, on each issue.

Tell us your ideas, and you might get some respect. I mean, other than the fact that you want to blow up Mexicans with land mines, on the border, abolish the state of Israel, and make bigoted attacks on Mitt Romney’s religion.

Grow up, for Heavens sake. Quit kicking so much sand, when you don’t get your way.

And, also, try being honest. You never were prolife and you never supported Ronald Reagan. You make that stuff up because you think the “convert” ploy will be more persuasive. It is not working. Nobody believes you. Nobody who voted for Reagan would have this much hatred towards a man who simply said the truth, that Reagan was a “transformational figure”.

I fear Obama, because I think he MIGHT be such a person, himself.

Clinton was not. Carter was not. Obama MIGHT be.

Obama has studied what makes a President “great” — changing hearts and minds is what he believes is important. He admires Reagan for how he did it, he does not like Reagans policies, only his style. I think I get it. Why can’t you get it?

In your own words, you claimed that you used to shout “baby killer” when you protested, at the Clinics. (Before you changed your mind on the issue?) BULL! Not to say that doesn’t happen, sometimes, but the overwhelming majority of prolifers that I know would have asked you to be quiet or leave, if you behaved so poorly. I was out there many, many times, at Tillers. Rarely did anybody yell “baby killer” and when it happened, they were promptly scolded, by other protesters, and told that they were not helping the cause.

You also claim, as proof of your former “support” for Reagan, that you wrote “Fritz and Tits call it quits” on a WSU blackboard, after Reagan beat Mondale-Ferarro. (This, too, before you “switched sides”?)

Well, If you are telling the truth, GLAD YOU LEFT US! You do far more harm than good, to any cause that is unfortunate enough to have your support.

    You have no class.
