Moran playing for Kansas, America

MoranDuring a speech to the Hays Rotary Club this week, Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Hays, sounded down on the partisan atmosphere in Washington, D.C., but upbeat on its capacity to change. “The politics I see in the capital isn’t what’s best for the country,” he said. “It’s about the Republican or Democrat team. My goal is to be on the Kansas and America team.”

The independent-minded Republican also said: “What I hope happens in 2008 is putting aside partisanship. I hope this is a year we see Congress and the president work together. I hope to see an America that wants what’s good for America, not what’s good for the Democrats or Republicans.”

Independent minded? Are you crazy? I think Moran’s voting record along party lines is one of the highest in Kansas. So whatever!

Uh, sounds to me like Jerry is starting to dance to the middle is his quest to be our next Governor.

Jerry is saying one thing and doing another. Yep, he must be running for something. He thinks he can vote along Party lines and then treat Kansans like a bunch of ignorant cow-pokes. Uh, Jerry…we are smarter than you evidently think we are. Your Captain America magic trick is not going to work statewide. You can fool Congressional District Area I all the time, but you can’t fool Congressional District Area II, III, and IV at all. Gigs-up.

Fleet, wouldn’t you like to see the same? Not that I believe Moran means what he says, but the two party system wouldn’t be so bad if both sides would learn to use it as it should be used. “Compromise” is a dirty word to most, but that’s what it takes to get things (the right things for the People and the Country) done. Neither side is 100% correct at any time, but both have good ideas. We the People need to demand that our politicians put us and country first, not party.

He’s already side-stepped the guv race a couple of times. I think he wants to become the next senator after Roberts retires. The trick is to dump Roberts without getting his hands dirty, at least too dirty. I expect there are a lot of anti-Roberts feelings in the hinterlands. He’s been around too long.

Moran is slick. The question is, is he slick enough to dupe the entire state. Remains to be seen.

Moran does not have an independent bone in his body. He followed the political winds when he was a state senator and he does the same in Washington.

He had a chance to be Governor but he did not have the backbone to take it on. Now he wants to be a US Senator.

Forget it Moron (spelling more accurate)!

And ANOTHER Republican starts the “let’s us all be Americans together!” noise. it’s becoming the theme on that side.

They are scared on the right.

    They should be.

Perhaps he should endorse Barack Obama if he really wants what he says. My guess is he’ll stick to a Rep Presidential candidate.

I believe that Rep. Moran is angling to continue the historical pattern of becoming a Senator from Kansas once Senator Roberts retires, namely running for Senate after representing the First District.

I find it absolutely hilarious that, after 15 years of the most extreme partisanship on the Right, they now want to play nice now that the Democrats hold the majority in both the House and the Senate.

    How freaking convenient!

    Mega dittos, WSC.

Cal Thomas had another column about “bipartisanship” in The Eagle Sunday.

Funny how he never uttered the word with a RepubliCON president, a RepubliCON senate, and a RepubliCON house.

Nope. Only now that it looks like the Democratic party will control the WH and Congress do we hear these viscious and hateful partisans calling for “bipartisanship.”

    “Bipartisanship” heh try bipartisan$hit.

Well, Moran is my congressman, and I have to say that in some important ways he’s bucked the party line. The issue of insurance parity for mental illness is one I can think of right off. My wife contacted his office several times in support of that and he did vote in favor of it.

I have needed his help a couple of times regarding some military records matters and he was very responsive and helpful.

Does that make him independent? Don’t know, but it does seem to me to indicate a representative that works for and listens to his constituents.

The RepubliCOM definition of bipartisanship is “Repukes lead, Democrats buckle under”

Let’s hope that ends real soon.

Damn, I’m good. Just saw on the news, bush is reconsidering tax cuts. But, if he isn’t going to go for a redistribution of those previously implemented, I’d just as soon he not drive up the deficit, and drive down the dollar any further!

My cousin works with Moran. He emphatically states that Moran is a true blue straight shooter who has solid integrity and believes in his job.
    For whatever that is worth.
