Blog update

blog logoThanks for your support and patience as we moved this blog from Typepad to WordPress. We’re still working on some bugs.

FYI: There is a filter that can block posts if they have more than three links (it’s to catch porn spam), so you may need to break a post into two or more separate posts if you have a lot of links.

Our tech people are working on a preview option for comments and are hopeful that can be added.

Also, in the past you’ve been able to use the address http://blogs.kansas.com to get to this blog. In the near future, you’ll need to use the full address: http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog.

I’ve had them blocked with two links. Meanwhile we seem to be getting a lot of spam (poker, loans, etc) on old threads popping up.

    Welcome to my world, WEBlog.
I’ve been fighting the same thing on our blog from the beginning.

The upgrades and improvements to WE Blog are a welcome change. Now if we could just figure out a way to keep the open thread from turning into a cesspool at night…

BUT I LIKE THE PORN SPAM! Its the only thing that reminds me there is more to life then Politics and this blog! (Sniffle, Sniffle, wipe tear from my eye)

I’m still recovering from the shock that the WEBlog changed formats and did absolutely nothing to correct what so many of us users were complaining about–no registration (which means no banning) and no monitoring (which means no post pulling).

    Unbelievable.

    Different look, same old $hit.

BTW, mandatory registration would stop the porn spam in its tracks or at least make it not worthwhile for the spammers to deal with . . .

We wouldn’t miss you Capn if there was a registration system that banned you. 8)

Out of literally thousands of posts of JimmyMac trying to be funny, not a single one ever succeeds.

You’d think that by sheer law of averages alone, he’d be humorous at least once or twice.

    But no . . .

CapnAmerica decides to try horseback riding, even though he has had no lessons or prior experience. Capn mounts the horse unassisted and the horse immediately springs into motion.

It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but Capn begins to slip from the saddle. In terror, Capn grabs for the horse’s mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip.

Capn tries to throw his arms around the horse’s neck, but he slides down the side of the horse anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly impervious to it’s slipping rider.

Finally, giving up his frail grip, Capn leaps away from the horse to try and throw himself to safety. Unfortunately, his foot has become entangled in the stirrup, Capn is now at the mercy of the horse’s pounding hooves as his head is struck against the surface over and over.

Capn’s head is battered against the ground, he is mere moments away from unconsciousness when to his great fortune …………………….

The Department Store manager to the toy section sees Capn and shuts the electric horse off.

    Regular, now that’s funny!

Seems Cap knows about as much about horses as he seems to know about everything else.

No, McCluer, that was not very funny.

    You are seriously humor impaired.

Hope you can do better another time…

Steven Davis was walking home after a party and decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery just for laughs.

Right in the middle of the cemetery he was startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from the misty shadows. Trembling with fear, Steven Davis found an old man with a hammer and chisel, chipping away at one of the headstones.

“Holy cow, Mister,” he said after catching his breath, “You scared me half to death, I thought you were a ghost! What are you doing working here so late at night?”

“Those fools!” the old man grumbled. “They misspelled my name!”

    Cap’n,
This is a blog where everybody get to say their piece. As such, I don’t want to see anybody banned or edited, not even Ian. If you can’t stand the heat…….

  16. Posted January 12, 2008 at 8:54 pm | Permalink

    Sorry, Jed.

That’s where we part company. Ian should have been banned after his first post.

The first amendment doesn’t protect peoples’ right to demean entire races and ethnic groups.

The Eagle made the right decision.

I can’t help but wonder if my cut and pastes of Ian’s despicable comments to B’nai B’rith, Southern Poverty Law Center, and every anti-defamtion league I could think of had anything to do with Ian’s sudden departure.

When it comes to stopping hate speech, I will not shrink from doing my patriotic duty.

    By any means necessary.

It’s especially ironic that JimmyMac links me to a joke regarding horseback riding.

I’m not an expert or even proficient in many things, but I grew up in the saddle. My dad was in love with the damn things–animals with ten times our strength and a brain the size of a baseball.

I won a mechanical bull riding contest in Texas the first time I ever tried it. I was the only dude in the place not wearing a cowboy hat and boots. Never felt the need to show off with fake accoutrements when I grew up with the real thing.

The best thing about knowing how to ride?

Horses are a chick magnet, and that’s not nothing when one is fourteen years old . . .

  18. Posted January 12, 2008 at 9:16 pm | Permalink

BTW, Commander Cod-Piece seems to have a phobia about horses.

For a Texan, they guy is never seen near one.

He once had his picture taken with an empty saddle once though.

    That’s a metaphor for his entire presidency . . .
