Mary Caruso, one more point. It's been the habit in the last few decades of the 20% controlling the other 80%. They just pick and choose whats politically correct to oppose and control. The next time your one of the 20%, just remember your own words, and mind your own business.

Mary Caruso, since when did it become your air. How much out there is your air. If you don't like the air you breath, move on. I agree that smoking is horrific. I don't like to see others profit from packaging and selling poison. I don't like to see others destroy their lives financially or healthwise. But I don't think that resorting to tyranny is the answer or solution. When and if we get a handle on the smoking situation, then what do we use what we have learned on. Do we use that tyranny to control and stop fast food, bad food, bad clothing? The goal is to handle the smoking situation without resorting to snobbery, righteouness, and tyranny. There is the right way and the wrong way to handle the smoking situation. We can start by ending the profitability of it, then since the Cigeratte Companies created a product to enhance demand, how about creating a product that reduces demand. Merry Christmas.

If you drank all day Pmom, that wouldn't affect MY health..so drink away, just don't drive while you do it. You have NO RIGHT to pollute my air..especially now that medical science has PROVED that secondhand smoke is harmful...why don't you just quit and then there will be no conflict in your life about the issue. You'll save your lungs AND the taxpayers a lot of for your health care when you can't walk across a room without being tethered to a O2 tank.

See, it's not about breathing smoke, it's about the anti-smoking nazis wanting to punish smokers in any way possible. It is absurd that smokers are treated worse than heroin addicts. We contribute a great deal, people used to smoke all of the time and it was considered the norm. I'm truly glad fewer are smoking, but damn, get OVER it already and stop dictating other people's lives! If I drank booze all day long I'd be more 'acceptable'. And that is WAY worse.

I went to teh Oasis the other day for lunch..no one was smoking at all and it was nice. Then some guy comes in and lights up close to my table and it all but ruined my lunch...20% of the population shouldn't be able to dictate what goes to the other 80%..you're the minority now.

I don't think so JR. In communities that have smoking bans, it hasn't affected business. Only 20% of the population smoke anyway..so you can take your smokes outside. No one will even miss your business.

They better get ready to write lots of tickets if they pass a ban.

I will be polite. But I will NOT obey any such ban.

I really hope they pass the smoking ban...everytime I travel somewhere where they have it, it's so nice to be able to go to any restaurant and not have put up with some jerk lighting up right next to me and polluting the air I breathe.

What if we took the money we throw away on treating people with smoking related illness and instead put it toward researching cures for cancer, juvenile diabetes, or MS? It would be wonderful to have more money to help people who are sick through no fault of their own.

I have never heard that eating red meat caused lung cancer...colon cancer maybe...but lung cancer is usually only caused by three things: smoking and exposure to asbestos or grain dust. If someone has lung cancer and has never been exposed to these things, usually there is a primary cancer somewhere else in the body that has spread to the lung.

"Actually, you all should be kissing smokers and thanking them for smoking. The last thing we need is for them all to die off.

Who is going to pay for all the free healthcare?"American Way

If everyone quit smoking the money the taxpayers would save not taking care of people with smoking related illnesses would more than cover the cost of any heathcare program. We spent billions each year taking care of sick smokers courtesy of the US taxpayers.

Read an article that said the link was much stronger than had been previously thought. Ks. being so heavy in the beef industry, I see why the Eagle hasn't been talking about it. I was surprised to learn it was linked to lung cancer, wonder how many of those non-smokers that get lung cancer aren't really related to second hand smoke but to what they eat.

Phantom - i knew there was a big link with processed (especially with nitrates) but less sure about red meat. Also, I wonder how much that would be dose related since it is also a great nutrient source.

Similar to the eggs issue - they are both good for you and bad for you. Also sun exposure - vitamin D (which defends against cancer) and skin cancer (which I have been dealing with for about 2 decades)

Still no mention of the new scientific study linking red and processed meat to colon and lung cancer.
