Putin is scary but not a bad pick

PutintimeRussian President Vladimir Putin isn’t a bad choice for Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” — given the selection criteria. As the magazine explained, the selection is not an endorsement but a “recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world — for better or for worse.” In picking Putin, Time noted that “at significant cost to the principles and ideas that free nations prize, he has performed an extraordinary feat of leadership in imposing stability on a nation that has rarely known it and brought Russia back to the table of world power.”
Runners-up were Al Gore, J.K. Rowling, Hu Jintao and Gen. David Petraeus.

Keep in mind that the criteria for “Man of the Year” is NOT that we like him; only that he has had impact.

This “honorific” has no credibility or substance.

It was bestowed on george bush for gosh sakes!

It is no more than a booby prize.

And don’t forget: Bush looked into Putin’s eyes and saw his soulmate.

Why not Kim Jong or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Osama Bin Laden?

They rank up their with Putin, on the top of the Liberal Heros List.

Ah, it was so tough not to choose JK Rowling.

Time magazine became a 3rd rate news rag years ago. I haven’t bought a Time magazine for 20+ years.

I only read Time magazine when I am in an airport.

I was going to get one today, but my Government Travel card doesn’t work in news stands.

    Oh well…

“Those people might be..soulmates to your other hero Bush”-Ben

So now the leaders of the “Axis of Evil” (as labeled by Bush) are now Bush’s soulmates?

    rfl,

As with several other things, the liberals (Ben), simply take something Bush said about looking into Putin’s soul several years ago and turn it into something like saying they are soulmates to suit their political attacks.

rfl – simply taking Max’s obvious BS and extrapolating. Unfortunately extreme right-wingers (like Max and Nathan) like to make idiotic generalizations.

I wasn’t being sarcastic at all Ben.

Look at what Putin has done to threaten the West in the last few years.

And Time magazine makes him Person of the Year.

Time Magazine Man/Woman of the Year (Ben – This List is BS!)

1972 Nixon/Kissinger (Watergate)1974 King Faisal (Oil Embargo)1979 Ayatullah Khomeini (50 US hostages in Iran)1982 The Computer

Actually GWB was Person of the Year 3 times.

    Clinton 2 times.

(Lewinsky just didn’t quite make it)

Making someone a “Person of the Year” should mean that that person is actually done something for the good of mankind.

Any fool can be a tyrant. That is the nature of man. Picking out a tyrant has never been a difficult search.

Max – as you know, Time does not pick someone they LIKE. Just someone who has had a large impact – likely negative. THAT is why they pick people like Stalin, Putin, and Bush. Hardly heroes!
