Whats with MGM’s Wellington proposal? Have they thrown in the white flag and decided if they can’t beat them join them? Down here in Wellington we dont want anything that has to do with Bob Knight and his group of crooks.

Atmospheric Physicist Dr. Garth W. Paltridge, an Emeritus Professor from University of Tasmania, is another prominent skeptic. Paltridge who was a Chief Research Scientist with the CSIRO Division of Atmospheric Research before taking up positions in 1990 as Director of the Institute of Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies at the University of Tasmania and as CEO of the Antarctic Cooperative Research Center.

Paltridge questioned the motives of scientists hyping climate fears. “They have been so successful with their message of greenhouse doom that, should one of them prove tomorrow that it is nonsense, the discovery would have to be suppressed for the sake of the overall reputation of science,” Paltridge wrote in an April 6, 2007 op-ed entitled “Global Warming – Not Really a Done Deal?” Paltridge is best known internationally for his work on atmospheric radiation and on the theoretical basis of climate change. He is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. Paltridge also worked with the National Climate Program Office. “Even as it is, the barriers to public dissemination of results that might cast doubt on one aspect or another of accepted greenhouse wisdom are extraordinarily high. Climate scientists rush in overwhelming numbers to repel infection by ideas not supportive of the basic thesis that global warming is perhaps the greatest of the threats to mankind and that it is caused by human folly – the burning of fossil fuels to support our way of life,” Paltridge explained. “In a way, their situation is very similar to that of the software engineers who sold the concept of the Y2K bug a decade ago. The ‘reputation stakes’ have become so high that it is absolutely necessary for some form of international action (any action, whether sensible or not) to be forced upon mankind. Then, should disaster not in fact befall, the avoidance of doom can be attributed to that action rather than to the probability that the prospects for disaster were massively oversold,” he added. “Pity the politicians who (we presume) are trying their best to make an informed decision on the matter. Of course politicians realize that those clamoring for their attention on any particular issue usually have other un-stated agendas. But they may not recognize that scientists too are human and are as subject as the rest of us to the seductions of well-funded campaigns. One of the more frightening statements about global warming to be heard now from the corridors of power is that ‘the scientists have spoken’. Well maybe they have – some of them anyway – but the implication of god-like infallibility is a bit hard to take,” he concluded.

You’re right Meadowlark, Paul should resign. Oh wait, he already has so digging up “scandal” is rather irrelevant at this point. On the other hand the Republican party is engaged in voter suppression and happily admits it. That’s a real scandal, not phone calls to a girlfriend.

A question I have seen here many times is “Where is the Moslem outrage?”.While reading a book called “The age of Sacred Terror” by Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon.A Former director and Senior director of Counterterrorism, National Security Council.

I found in a foot not on page 411 the following:* The September 11 attacks were assailed as un-Islamic–primarily because the victims were civilians–by prominent authorities, including Sheikh Muhammad Sayyid al-Tantawi, Imam of the al-Azhar University, Mustafa Mashhur, the general guide of the Egyptian Muslim Brothers; Shekh Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah, spiritual guide of Hezollah, Abdul Aziz bin Abdallah al-Sheikh, the chief mufti of Saudi Arabia; and his fellow members of the Saudi ulema Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdallah al-Sabil; and even Ali Khamenei, the Iranian supreme leader.

The book is copyrighted in 2002 and was written after Afghanistan and before Iraq. This footnote is in a chapter “Terror and strategy” it does mention Saddam and Iraq, but it is a warning to not include either in any plan of attack in the war on terror. That Nation sponsors which there is no indication that Saddam or Iraq has ever supported Al-Qaeda. Are not the real problem, that we should concentrate on failed nations such as Afghanistan or the Sudan. Nor should we include Arafat with Bin Laden as this would hinder getting assistance from other nations. Since the Terrorism committed by the PLO is different from the terrorism committed by Al-Qaeda. While one is done in an attempt to gain a Palestine state, the other is for the sole purpose of killing us. Even if we do not make the distinction, the rest of the world does.
Anyway I hope the above answered the question “where is the Moslem outrage?” it would seem in the beginning and before Iraq it was throughout the middle east.

In a move reminiscent of storylines developed during the World War II, the U.N. is joining forces with Marvel Comics, creators of Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk, to create a comic book showing the international body working with superheroes to solve bloody conflicts and rid the world of disease.

The comic, initially to be distributed free to 1 million U.S. schoolchildren, will be set in a war-torn fictional country and feature superheroes such as Spider-Man working with U.N. agencies such as Unicef and the “blue hats,” the U.N. peacekeepers.

    A different take on Bhutto.

“Her country’s better off without her. She may serve Pakistan better after her death than she did in life.”

“In fact, Bhutto was a frivolously wealthy feudal landlord amid bleak poverty. The scion of a thieving political dynasty, she was always more concerned with power than with the wellbeing of the average Pakistani. Her program remained one of old-school patronage, not increased productivity or social decency.”

Colleges take hard line on psychological problems

From large public institutions to small, private colleges, a growing number of schools are taking punitive action against students who display mental illness, ranging from bipolar disorder to eating disorders, experts say.

With better mental health services in younger grades, more youth with mental illness are arriving on college campuses than ever before. At the same time, courts have indicated that schools can be held legally responsible if students harm themselves or others.http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-kickedout_27dec27,1,366914.story?ctrack=1&cset=true

It just doesn’t pay to be crazy anymore.Still, nobody wants to be sued, so I can see why schools will get a lot more serious about who they accept.

That’s very impressive Hank! An Emeritus (retired) Professor wrote an obscure “op-ed” that Google can’t find.

Dr. Paltridge also wrote an article in 2004, in the magazine ‘Quadrant’, “Australia’s independent review of literature & ideas”.

Hank, has the “Emeritus Professor” written any credible, peer-reviewed climate science recently?

Paltridge is an “Allied Expert” at NRSP, which has ties to energy. and lobbying.http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Natural_Resources_Stewardship_Project

And Paltridge, like about 100 others on the list that HANK RESPECTS, signed a letter making the very false claim,”… there has been no net global warming since 1998″.

    http://tamino.wordpress.com/2007/12/16/wiggles/

    Dear Hank,

Is Dr. Paltridge unable to understand that a record El Nino event in 1998 added a short, temporary spike to the human-caused warming trend?

Should I get the popcorn on?

    Whatever.

Hey I saw the Chipmunks movie today. It was pretty good. I’m a little younger than the original series and was too old for the 80’s redux. But from what I do know they stayed pretty true to the original. Lots of little salutes to it.

And the harmony doing those voices. Amazing!

Bush blames Bhutto’s death on “terrorists.”

Of course, it couldn’t be that the ISI who have worked with Al Qaeda and the Taliban since the Soviet invasion could have been responsible.

    They’re our . . . you know . . . allies.

Wonder who’s in charge of the nukes?

No wonder Bush looked like Barney Fife in front of the camera during his press conference.

    Totally out of his league.

Kansas, why wait till the 1st to leave? Why not just leave now? I mean, it’s not like you’re going to lose credibility or respect or anything since you have none to begin with.
Your tenure on this blog for the past year or so has been highlighted by the trouble you’ve caused; the lying, nic stealing, nic switching…did I mention the lying? And after all the commotion you’ve stirred up, you turn out to be the biggest crybaby ever. Poor little Kansas, everybody’s picking on you.

There’s no doubt in my mind that you’re lying again. You just can’t help yourself, can you? Either you won’t leave, or you’ll try to come back under another Nic as you’ve done so many times before. Changing your Nic won’t work, by the way. You’re such an easily identifiable little weasel.

And if by chance, for once in your worthless existence you should stand by your word, nobody will miss you. You’ve never brought anything to the discussion. You’re just irritating noise in the background.

Am I dogpiling you? You Bet! You’ve given no respect…you’ll get none. Please feel free to FOAD. (fark off and die)
