All five voting systems used in Ohio, a state whose electoral votes narrowly swung two elections toward President Bush, have critical flaws that could undermine the integrity of the 2008 general election, a report commissioned by the state’s top elections official has found.

At polling stations, teams working on the study were able to pick locks to access memory cards and use hand-held devices to plug false vote counts into machines. At boards of election, they were able to introduce malignant software into servers.http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/15/us/15ohio.html

As Christmas draws near, Pastor John Foster won’t be decorating a tree, shopping for last-minute gifts or working on a holiday sermon for his flock. After all, it’s been 50 years since Christmas was anything more than a day of the week to him.

He’s one of very few American Christians who follow what used to be the norm in many Protestant denominations–rejecting the celebration of Christmas on religious grounds.

Not a home run, but a good start on Hybrid Cars and built right here in Kansas!

General Motors will build the Malibu at Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas. Ford also builds it’s hybrid, the Escape SUV, in Kansas City, so there is speculation that this area may become a sort of “Hybrid Capital” in the US.

The Chevy Malibu sedan will be a 2008 model that will utilize GMC’s “mild hybrid system” rather than its dual mode full hybrid system.

GM has previously announced that the Malibu hybrid car would be built in the Kansas City area, and offered as an option for the newly designed 2008 Chevy Malibu – already a big hit among auto critics.

According to early reports the Malibu hybrid should offer about a 2 mpg improvement in fuel economy compared to the conventional Malibu, or about 24/32 mpg city/highway.

The hybrid Malibu offers a 36 Volt electric motor coupled with a 2.4 liter Ecotec VVT four cylinder engine and a four speed transmission that should provide seamless operation to drivers.

The Malibu hybrid made its debut at the MLB All-Star game, but was a showcase at the LA Auto Show.

    Why a mild hybrid?

GM has recently stated that it would focus its full hybrid technology on larger trucks and SUVs, such as the Chevy Tahoe hybrid, emphasizing a lower-cost “mild” hybrid system over a “full” hybrid like the one developed by Toyota.

Thus, a hybrid like the Malibu hybrid will be cheaper, but also less fuel efficient than a Toyota Camry hybrid, for example.

Using an integrated starter-generator, mild hybrids, shut the gasoline engine off at stoplights, and offer around 10 -15 percent increase in fuel economy.

Don’t expect a dual mode hybrid in the Malibu any time soon, if ever. Nonetheless, if you want the most fuel efficient Malibu possible, then check out the Malibu hybrid. Overall, the Chevy Malibu is a hot new hybrid and going with the hybrid version can provide a nice increase in fuel economy.”

Oops forgot the source, but the information is all over the Web.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Malibu does better on the survivable crash tests than the Japanese Hybrids.

I drive an ‘86 Lincoln Towncar. It’s a huge old classic, low mileage in excellent condition and considering it’s about the size of the USS Enterprise, at about 20 mpg, it’s not too bad on gas. I only drive it to work, so I burn a little over a gallon a week. When you include what tags, taxes, and insurance cost, it’s very cheap transportation. My wife drives a late model Saturn that gets 30-32 mpg. Of course we drive the Saturn most of the time. Considering what they want for a hybrid, I think we’ll be driving the Saturn for a long time.

With the weather the way it is this weekend, we’ll be driving the Lincoln. I feel very secure in my old “tank”.

Kansas, thanks for the link. Still, 22 grand is going to be a very basic model. If you want more than seats and a heater, it’s probably going to approach $30,000 (Mary’s convertible).

As I said before, our Saturn gets as good mileage, and it’s surprisingly quick. When I first started driving it, I was amazed at the acceleration, considering it’s a four-cylinder.

A major problem I have with buying new cars is the $2,000-$4,000 depreciation just for the privilege of driving it off the lot.

“It’s common knowledge that Christmas and its customs have nothing to do with the Bible,” said Clyde Kilough, president of the United Church of God, which has branches all over the world. “The theological question is quite simple: Is it acceptable to God for humans to choose to worship him by adopting paganism’s most popular celebrations and calling them Christian?”

From the link posted by XXX above.

Very good article, and I agree, Christmas as we celebrate it today, has become a pagan holiday celebrating the best material things that money can buy.

Thus, “happy holidays” is more appropriate then trying to convince people that December 25th has anything at all to do with Christ.

Al Sharpton Recorded Cutting Political Deal in FBI TapeSaturday, December 15, 2007

In a conversation secretly recorded by the FBI in 2003, former Democratic presidential candidate Rev. Al Sharpton can be heard offering to help a Philadelphia fundraiser win a multimillion-dollar business deal in exchange for drumming up political contributions, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Saturday.

The Inquirer obtained an account of the conversation, in which Sharpton asks fundraiser Ronald A. White in a New York hotel to raise $50,000 for him.

After White counter-offered $25,000, he said, “If you bring my guys up on this hedge fund, and I have the right conversation, I’ll give you what you need.”

    “Cool,” Sharpton said.

If Lohnsteincompletes that treatment, Schneider could place her onprobation.Zreanna, who was born several weeks premature, diedwithin minutes of her emergency Caesarean birth onSeptember 9, 2006. Lohnstein’s blood-alcohol level atthe time was 0.18 percent. Zreanna’s was 0.17 percent.Shyster Richard Scheibe, head public defender in St.Charles County, got the drunken killer mother off easybecause of an earlier ruling by the Missouri Court ofAppeals on drug abuse, barring prosecution of a womanfor causing indirect harm to her baby before birth, bydeliberately ingesting enough drugs to cause injury ordeath to the baby.- – -

Dozens of pro-life groups have issued a new lettercondemning the baby-hating American College ofObstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) position, thatpro-life doctors should refer mothers to abortionmills, if they don’t want to commit abortions.[Referral to an abortion mill is participating in anabortion, and carries part of the blood guilt. Nodecent physician would commit such a referral.]- – -

Two researchers say reducing abortions in the UnitedStates would significantly cut the rate of prematurebirths. [Duhhh! Over 20 years of studies have proventhat.] They say the rate has increased as abortion hasbeen legalized and point to Poland as an example ofhow banning or significantly reducing abortions wouldhelp pregnant women. Poland dramatically reduced itsrates of premature birth, maternal mortality andinfant mortality within a few years after its abortionrate declined by 98% between 1989 and 1993 (as aresult of the passage of an abortion ban). Between1995 and 1997, Poland’s pre-term birth rate dropped by41.8% and maternal mortality decreased 41.4%, andinfant mortality was down by 25.0%, a unique drop inpremature birth and associated medical problems.Reduction of breast cancer would be an added benefitof abolition.- – -

Abortionist quacks don’t need to chafe their valuablehands by washing between abortions, and besides have a licenseto lie to victimized mothers, according to abortionistquack Alberto Hodari, speaking at Wayne StateUniversity in Michigan. Hodari is accused of causingseveral botched abortion deaths, including a minorgirl, Tamia Russell, who evaded Michigan’s parentalconsent law.- – -

As in Kansas, abortions have been on the rise in Illinois and new figures from the state healthdepartment show them increasing in 2006. The number ofabortions in Illinois for 2006 reached 46,467, compared to a 2005 total of 43,409, a 7% increase, while most other states are seeing a decrease inabortions. Likely the failure of the Illinois Legislature to enact a parental notification law isattracting minor girls across state lines to secretlycontract the killing of their children, causing a rapid increase in out-of-state abortions. Furthermore,Planned Parenthood abortion mills are notorious for violating parental notification laws when they are enacted, and for violating statutory rape reportingrequirements, since the notifications and reportingmight cut down on abortion mill profits. The failure of Kansas government to enforce state laws in abortion mills, under the corrupting influence of the abortion industry now being brought to clear light, is causing a national crisis in criminal justice, as thousands of out-of-state mothers enter Kansas every year for illegal late-term abortions not tolerated elsewhere.- – -

In some districts of India, there are only about 300girls for every 1000 boys, because of illegal sexselection abortions, likely killing 10 million babygirls over the last 20 years.

The bomb that ravaged Benazir Bhutto’s Pakistatni homecoming processional in October appears to have been rigged to the clothes of a baby who was held up for the former prime minister to embrace.

    ——————Magix Movie Editor
    http://www.magix.com/us/movie-edit-pro/detail/

Can buy online and download for use immediately

The best bang for the buck for inexpensive Movie Makers and DVD burning is Magix Movie Edit Pro for about $49.00. It can do just about anything you want in Home Movie Editing and DVD burning. Has a ton of other software that comes with it as well (audio editor.) It will also save to Flash Format. I haven’t used this software, but it has very good reviews and the people I know that use it are happy with it.

Magix Movie Editor might be on sale now as well, I think I remember reading that somewhere. $49.99 for a very capable full movie editing package that burns DVD’s and saves in Flash if need be.——————-If you just want a program to save in flash, but doesn’t burn DVD’s then I would recommend:

FlashTo make a movie into Flash, you can use ON2 Flix Standard, which costs about $39.00.
    https://flix.on2.com/

The ON2 Flix standard about in the middle of the page on the right and you can download after purchase, then install it. It’s an industry standard for a lot of video to flash converters, probably the best bang for the buck.

I have the pro version of On2 Flix, which is more expensive and faster, but I doubt you will need all of that.——————

I use Adobe Products and bought the package that includes a variety of software for about $1800.00. I don’t think you want to do that, so won’t go in to it. :)

I like interviews when Charlie Rose does them. It’s time for Bill Clinton to stop thinking about the White House.

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2007/12/a-tense-bill-cl.html

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_45KK8jwJR0

In an interview with the inimitable Charlie Rose last night, former President Bill Clinton said his wife’s most threatening challenger, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, isn’t ready to be president.

“It’s less predictable, isn’t it?” Clinton said. “I mean when is the last time we elected a president based on one year of service in the Senate before he started running?”

He called voting for Obama being “willing to risk it.”

Which is more important? he asked. Electing a symbol or a woman who has done things to change people’s lives.

He suggested that Obama take a page from his life, and realize he’s not yet experienced enough for the gig.

“When I was a governor and young and thought I was the best politician in the Democratic Party, I didn’t run the first time. I could have,” said Clinton referring to the 1988 campaign he ultimately decided to sit out. “I knew in my bones I shouldn’t run. That I was a good enough politician to win, but I didn’t think I was ready to be president.”

(Historians may take issue with that explanation as to why Bill Clinton didn’t run. The reason they cite is that coming off Gary Hart’s 1987 “Monkey Business” scandal, those close to Clinton cautioned him that his personal life would be dissected and probably wouldn’t withstand the scrutiny — which would harm his beloved then-7-year-old daughter. Read more here from David Maraniss’s First In His Class or from Carl Bernstein’s A Woman In Charge.)

ABC News Political Director David Chalian watched the Charlie Rose interview and writes: “This interview was remarkable and perhaps quite telling about the mood within the Clinton world at the moment. I’m not sure that Bill Clinton did anything in this interview to advance his wife’s cause. He appeared quite tense and almost pissed off that Barack Obama is running for president.”

By the time a baby is aborted it is more than a “clump of cells” and late term abortions IS the killing of a baby, whether she/he is viable outside the womb or not. “Abortion stops a beating heart” is true.I agree that abortion should stay legal, outlawing it wouldn’t stop it and would only put women who are intent on ending their pregnancies at risk. But let’s not pretend it’s something other than what it is…the destruction of an innocent human life.

At what point in time can that tiny clump of fetal material sustain itself — breathe on its own??? Survive outside the mother??

The same question would go for the frozen embryo’s in the science lab… When can those embryos become living sentient beings?? Can they be said to be truly “alive” in that frozen state??

I amnot sure who is able to answer these questions. But I dont think its a bunch of politicians trying to stir up a frenzy between people…

  54. Posted December 15, 2007 at 9:52 pm | Permalink

Chas, could I ask a question and see if you can answer it.

    Late Term Abortions -

Ask yourself why abortions Doctors don’t completely pull the body of the “fetus” outside of the woman’s body before they destroy it. (i.e. they leave the head in, while the body dangles outside of the woman)

I know the answer, do you? :)

  55. Posted December 15, 2007 at 9:58 pm | Permalink

Since the head comes out first, I dont think you have that correct.

  56. Posted December 15, 2007 at 10:00 pm | Permalink

If the feet come out first, the baby is breach… and requires a C-Section to give birth…

Now, are you suggesting that the abortion Dr. puts the head BACK IN?? I think not!!

    Posted December 15, 2007 at 10:02 pm | Permalink

Chas..just because a fetus is dependant on it’s mother to sustain life until it can sustain on it’s own doesn’t mean it’s not alive. If it’s nto alive, then don’t worry about it because it won’t grow and develop. An 8 week old fetus has a heartbeat and produces brainwaves..in the medical profession that’s how a human is determined to be alive. As far as partial birth abortion, doctors developed that technique to prevent what they call and “Oops abortion”, they crush the baby’s head to make sure it’s dead when it’s extracted from the mother’s body. There have been cases when an abortion resulted a live baby, and the baby left to die after it was “born”.

  58. Posted December 15, 2007 at 10:02 pm | Permalink

Read up on it first Chas, then get back to me. :)

  64. Mary Caruso
    Posted December 15, 2007 at 10:07 pm | Permalink

Chas, when a partal birth abortion is performed, the fetus is delivered feet first (the baby doesn’t turn head down until the last few weeks of pregnancy), then a hole is punched in the base of the skull, a catheter is inserted, the brains sucked out, and the head crushed before the fetus is removed. That way the fetus will be dead for sure when it’s delivered.

  65. Posted December 15, 2007 at 10:07 pm | Permalink

IF the aborted baby is born “alive” and then left to die, that would be a homicidal act. IF that has happened, then the practitioner should be tried in a Courtroom… for a criminal negligence charge.

I am thinking I read where that particular story has already been debunked once or twice…

  68. Posted December 15, 2007 at 10:11 pm | Permalink

    Now your getting it Chas.

The head of the fetus is left in so there is no chance of being charged a homicide.

If the head clears the woman, then it is considered a live birth and the “fetus” must be considered human.

Now that wasn’t hard was it Chas? :)

So the difference between a fetus and a human in this case is surrounding female tissues and about 4-6 inches.

Chas..In the early 70s aborting a baby alive was sometimes a problem..so much in fact that the law was passed to protect a fetus aborted alive. There were cases where fetuses aborted alive were left to die. Now that partial birth abortion is legal, the chances of that happening are rare. Abortion techniques have advanced since the early days of legalized abortion to make sure the fetus is dead before it’s extracted.Even when a baby is born premature, it has to weigh a certain amount before an attempt will be made to save it.

JR, a woman can’t have a late term abortion unless there is a medical reason..that’s where the debate is..what consitutes a medical reason? Is being depressed reason enough to abort a viable fetus? Other reasons may include to save the life of the mother, although I really don’t know any medical condition that would justify aborting a baby in the 9th month. The mother still passes the fetus through the birth canal no matter if the fetus is alive or dead.
If the baby is found to be non viable outside the womb or have some other serious deformity, then a late term abortion is legal. Some think that a baby having a club foot is jusification enough.

Mary, I do know of a couple of cases — on the remote edge of happening — where a late term abortion might have been feasible…

ONE >> A woman who had been diagnosed in her 6th month, with pancreatic cancer… and then in her 7th month, her husband was killed in car accident. Neither one had siblings, and both sets of parents were either dead, or not able to take on a new born.

TWO >> A woman, 39 yrs. old, had a brain aneurism — completely comatose — 7th month of pregnancy… Again, Husband was hospitalized with terminal cancer.. Parents were not in close contact – internal family issues.. siblings out of the country…

Those two cases are the only ones I have seen recently that MIGHT justify a late term abortion. Note I said MIGHT…

As to the ohers, I still see nobody has an answer to my original question — maybe because nobody has the very small number that it might be here in this city??

    I don’t like telling this.

When I was “pro life” I followed a VERY pregnant woman and her husband…me and some other “pro lifers” to where they were staying.

It is common knowledge where Dr. Tiller’s patients stayed. It was then anyway.

We did all the usual stuff. “Why are you killing your baby?”

“What kind of man are you?”

    “Please don’t kill your baby!”

    etc.

We hounded these folks at the Inn. I even hung around hoping to catch the Dad if he dared come back downstairs.

    He did.

They very much wanted a child. They had been trying a long time. The baby was…not right. Encepha something. I forget. They were heartbroken. But the baby would not live hardly at all after birth.

This guy he broke down and cried and asked me “why are you doing this?”

Well I wasn’t any less determined than I am now.

So even though I was taken back, I said “Well why not just let your baby be born?”

“Because the doctors say it won’t look like a baby, ok? I can’t do that to (his wife’s name) after we have tried so hard!”

That was the beginning of the end of my involvement in the “pro life” movement.

Look I lived through a pregnancy and birth before that incident. Two miscarriages and another pregnancy and birth after.

It isn’t right to use the partial birth abortion argument.

I don’t think anyone goes through that procedure without a good reason.

Hillary’s $850,000 Donor Friend HSU Indicted by a Federal Grand Jury!

Hsu’s indictment has Clinton battling perceptions

    BY MARTIN C. EVANS | martin.evans@newsday.com
    December 5, 2007

Hsu was indicted yesterday on 15 counts of defrauding investors of at least $20 million, and of violating campaign finance laws by donating to candidates in other people’s names.

As the race for the White House moved into its final weeks in 1996, Republicans were accusing the campaign of Bill Clinton and Al Gore of unethical fundraising tactics, including Gore’s attendance at a fundraiser at a tax-exempt Buddhist temple in California.

Now, as Hillary Rodham Clinton seeks the White House, the indictment yesterday of a former chief fundraiser, Norman Hsu, may see her confront potentially harmful fundraising questions of her own.

“Will this help? Of course not,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Polling Institute at Quinnipiac University, in Hamden, Conn. “You accumulate enough hurts and you have a problem.”

In September, Clinton returned $850,000 to Hsu after it was revealed he was a fugitive from a prison sentence following a ponzi scheme conviction.

In October, she returned more campaign cash after it was revealed her campaign took in some 150 donations of between $500 and $2,000 each from Chinatown dishwashers and street vendors – many could not be located or denied making donations.

David Axelrod, the seasoned Chicago Democratic political operative who is chief strategist for Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, was taken by surprise in the last minute of CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Dec. 2. Howard Wolfson, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s spokesman, accused Obama of running a “slush fund.” In fact, the Clinton campaign was spreading that story privately months ago.

Last summer, a senior Clinton aide told a famous Democratic personage believed favorable to Obama that the Illinois senator was using his “leadership” political-action committee to spread money around the country to grease his presidential prospects. That message was private when Clinton seemed far ahead for the Democratic nomination. It became public when Obama threatened to overtake her.

I can’t find recent statistics on late term abortions in Kansas.
I had a friend who was diagnosed with cancer when she was 6 months pregnant. She would never even consider an abortion, so they waited until she was through her seventh month and then delivered the baby so they could start her treatment. The baby was born with severe heart defects, and my friend died three weeks after her daughter was born. Her daughter died when she was about a year old. I don’t know what the right answer was, all I know is that my firend could never have lived with herself is she chose to have an abortion.I know most people don’t have late term abortions for trivial reasons, and it’s always a tragedy.

    20 years X 12 Fraud Counts + 240 Years.

Plus 5 years for each count of Campaign Finance violations.

    5 years X 3 Campaign Finance Violations = 15 years.

That’s 255 Years in Jail for Clinton’s friend Hsu!

    Serious stuff.

(Can’t wait to see what Clinton Corruption evidence comes out of this trial!)

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu was indicted by a federal grand jury for swindling investors in a $60 million fraud scheme and making illegal donations to U.S. political campaigns.

The 15-count indictment, unsealed on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, follows similar charges filed in September, in a case that prompted Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton to return $850,000 in campaign contributions.

A lawyer representing Hsu, James Brosnahan, did not immediately return requests for comment.

The indictment charges Hsu, 56, with six counts of mail fraud, six counts of wire fraud and three counts of violating the Federal Election Campaign Act, which limits individual campaign contributions.

If convicted, Hsu could face 20 years in prison on each fraud charge and five years on each campaign finance charge, as well as fines, U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said.

It’s because you’re so wealthy, are such a word smith, and because you have such charm.

Oh, well, I guess none of those could be it. It must be my neediness to try to take on a fixer upper project. However, in light of the degree of dysfunction this case, I think it would be classified psychosis rather than neediness.

Have I ever told any of you about the lws of nature.THE LAWS OF NATUREIf our legislators had any guts at all they would define “when a sperm becomes a human” and settle this never ending squabble. As many of you already know, due to nature’s metamorphosis, a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, a cut worm becomes a moth, a tadpole becomes a frog, a grub worm becomes a June bug and a sperm from a human male has a chance of becoming a human.A caterpillar is not a butterfly, a cut worm is not a moth, a tadpole is not a frog, a grub worm is not a June bug and a sperm from a human is not a human. In fact, after conception, it is nothing more then a loveable parasite in a human female’s body, sucking life from this host body. It will continue to suck life from this host body until it either dies in the womb or the umbilical cord is cut. Until that time (the cord is cut), based on the law of nature, it cannot be called human.
