Hey, what’s up with that?
I posted as blank after signing in.
The Eagle should really figure this technology out–it’s not rocket science.
How did you do that CapN??? Now we got a whole string of “blanksters” posting…
Bush watched those tapes in the White House, and perhaps gloated over them with friends. If he didn’t see them, Cheney did. Wait and see if I’m not right. I’ve been saying it for years. Now we know at least that there were tapes. Ask this: Just how does a president justify such interrogations on a case by case basis without seeing the result? How could they make statement after statement supporting the utility of harsh methods, unless they knew what the methods were, and what the statements produced were?
How could this administration not know the intimate details of every interrogation of higher level terrorists when they so eagerly used the results of such interrogations to scare us into supporting them? No, they hung on to every word.
Furthermore, they probably got woodies. They’d do no less for you.
The erased tapes are a very serious situation for this Administration — but just watch and see how it gets justified on this Blog thread…
Should be fascinating how BushCo will be held blameless by the blindly loyal subjects…
I am still amazed at how the “blanksters” are managing to post to this blog, when the blog requires a “nic” to post comments.
Makes me wonder if somebody has figured out how hack into the WE Blog system??
House Democratic leaders could complete work as soon as Monday on a half-trillion-dollar spending package that will include billions of dollars for the war effort in Iraq without the timelines for the withdrawal of combat forces that President Bush has refused to accept, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) said yesterday.
In a complicated deal over the war funds, Democrats will include about $11 billion more in domestic spending than Bush has requested, emergency drought relief for the Southeast and legislation to address the subprime mortgage crisis, Hoyer told a meeting of the Washington Post editorial board.
If the bargain were to become law, it would be the third time since Democrats took control of Congress that they would have failed to force Bush to change course in Iraq and continued to fund a war that they have repeatedly vowed to end.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/07/AR2007120702550.html?hpid=topnewsAnd once again, Democrats back down. We gave control of Congress to these wimps why?

Chas, it’s pretty simple. TypeKey/TypePad is not a Cadillac program. Yes, it “requires” a nic, but the program doesn’t differentiate. It just looks for a character or characters. “Blank” is a character. Same as when we had e-mail addys on the blog. TypeKey/TypePad didn’t care whether an e-mail addy was legit, only that it followed the proper format for an e-mail addy.
I am overwhelmed as to why the Democrats arent taking Bush all the way on these budget issues… I know they need their 60+ votes in the Senate to do anything.. But if they keep shoving it at Bush, and make him either sign it, or Veto it, they can show him to be in total dis-regard for the troops he claims to so dearly love…
I am totally baffled by the way they keep giving in to the BushCo Administration… Its like they are acting as though Bush has something on them, if they go against him… Geez…
So, XXX this should work??
Nope — that doesnt work, XXX… I didnt think it would…
Must be something different than that, XXX… Beats me how they make it work… Maybe the Editors will figure it out soon!!

Major technical and financial obstacles remain, and energy generated from waves is not expected to start contributing to the electrical grid in the United States for several years. Yet like wind energy in its early stages in the 1980s, wave energy is considered promising, perhaps inevitable, with the potential to one day provide 5 percent to 10 percent of the nation’s energy supply, according to some projections.http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/08/us/08waves.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

There is. You have only to go to other blogs to see better programs. I would imagine cost is a factor for the Eagle and their owners. I suspect the Eagle isn’t very technologically advanced; note what a POS the server that serves WE Blog is. Doesn’t seem to take much to bog it down on busy days.
Well, I guess that those who know how to post blank, will do so… Those who dont, wont!! Could make for an interesting weekend on the ol’ Blog…
Warming and the Right
LAST June, Jim Manzi, a longtime software executive, laid out a case in The National Review for the need for conservatives to accept the “reality” of global warming (nationalreview.com). It is, he wrote, “no longer possible, scientifically or politically, to deny that human activities have very likely increased global temperatures; what remains in dispute is the precise magnitude of the human impact.”http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/08/technology/08online.html
Mr Manzi needs to visit WE Blog where GW denial is political mantra.
You got that right, XXX… Maybe we should email Mr. Manzi, and tell him??
Consumer electronics retailer CompUSA said Friday it will close its stores after the holidays following sale of the company to an affiliate of Gordon Brothers Group, a restructuring firm.
CompUSA operates 103 stores, which plan to run store-closing sales during the holidays.http://money.cnn.com/2007/12/07/technology/compusa.ap/index.htm?postversion=2007120719
WTF?!?!?
CompUSA is one of my favorite places! Just a few blocks from home and packed full of computer goodies. Damn, I’m going to miss them. And there’s nothing else in Wichita that really caters to the computer nerd market.
CompUSA, I’ll miss you….
Maybe we should email Mr. Manzi, and tell him??

Nah…It’s too much fun watching republicans be willfully stupid.
LOL :-)
XXX — There is one place down arou d Mt. Vernon and Oliver or Edgemoor that is a really nerdy puter joint… Cant recall the exact address… sorry!!
I had moved on from the open forum because I had to thinking about this “ “ thing. But then encountering a post from “ “ on a different thread I came back. It is psycho is it not? More then once I have seen arguments where I could tell it was the same person just using different nics. But then from the sex ed thread I saw what appear to be one expressing their opinion and then “ “ showing up with a counter opinion and it had a very similar feel to the wording. Just a different opinion, this place by its nature you use a made up nic. So why use “ “ to post? Now if you have a disorder that makes you have totally different thoughts one after another then that would explain it.
But there are enough people of differing opinions that there really is no need for one person to argue with themselves for the entertainment of it.
I had moved on from the open forum because I had to “thinking” about this.
Should be “think” sorry changed in mid stream and did not correct that.
Huh I’d never been to Comp USA
Selling the stores to a “restructuring firm”?
That’s bean counter for it will be picked apart for break-up value.
Too bad that. It just gives the remaining bix boxers more power.
Chas, I’m not going to try it because I promised myself I would always post under one nic, own and be responsible for all the info in my posts, but do you suppose the space bar makes the blank (not typing the word blank!)?
Linda, I think that is the case, although I’m not trying it to find out.
Hating to take advantage of their misfortune.
But the Wichita location of Comp USA, it’s on north Rock road.
VERY juicy real estate.
My guess is there will be some VERY good bargains there in the next three weeks. They will have a new tenant for the building or plans to take it down to grade before Christmas most likely. They will want it empty and fast. With all the stores closing, this means everything must go and they won’t be shipping any of it out.
Actually I like the idea that terrorists DON’T KNOW our interrogation techniques so therefore cannot train to defeat them. There is a reason why we have the CIA and it isn’t to play nice or be friendly and open. They are secret because we NEED them to be secret.
I’ve got a very good idea that 95 percent of the people don’t REALLY want to know what the CIA has been up to in the past 50 years. I believe that they would rather the CIA continue doing whatever they are doing to keep us safe and AHEAD of our enemies or those that want to destroy us.

Gene, I’m going to bet that you don’t think that applies to all CIA agents.Like the ones the administration “outs” for political purposes.
Not the dress up, party doll type like Plame who only claimed covertness so she could be cool.

How long before you realize that the only purpose the democrats have in DC is to merely remain in power.

Hey! Wasn’t Hank going to London?
Thanks to Bush, your fish and chips now cost more in dollars than a side of beef at Dillon’s.
But blame the Dems, yeah, that makes sense . . .
Some people may be intentionally posting as ‘blank’, but Typekey (or something) is also causing it.
I was signed in at Typekey as cosmos yesterday, and my 2:39 PM posted ‘blank’ on the 12/07 Open Thread.
Thanks for that explanation Cosmos!!
Yea, Hank was headed t0 London for a few days, I think…
And once again, Democrats back down. We gave control of Congress to these wimps why?Posted by: XXX | December 08, 2007 at 07:32 AM
Good question XXX.
–This Congress, in spite of the majority Democrats campaigning to bring the troops home from Iraq, continues to fund the war. Why did many Republicans bother to switch their votes in 11/06?
–And this latest Energy Bill slugging its way through Congress is calling for 7 times more ethanol to be produced then today, without considering many problems that may cause and whether we can even produce that much ethanol.
Just a quick fix to make everybody feel better – as if passing ANY Energy Bill is a good thing.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/07/washington/07cnd-energy.htmlThe bill envisions a sevenfold increase in production of ethanol and other biofuels, from about 5 billion gallons a year today to 36 billion gallons by 2022.
Does the latest Democrat Energy bill even consider wave power options? XXX, you provided on good link above to the NY Times. Here are others:
Wave Energy Developers:

Wave power project for Orkney:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/02/21/nwave21.xml
Of course, just like the protestors of Wind Power in MA and other areas, there are protestors of Wave Power:
Surfers protest British wave power plan
http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/04/05/news/surf.php
It seems like anytime that anyone comes up with an environmentally friendly option to generate electricity, somebody shoots it down.
Is the agenda to go back to the Stone Age and just live with power shortages, roving blackouts shutting down power for 2 hours out of every 6 hours for all?
Increasing ethanol production 7 times (700%) in 15 years is the Democrats Energy Solution?
1. Do we grow enough corn for that?
2. Switchgrass is in very early development, so will switchgrass simply replace corn acres?
3. What will we feed cows, pigs, chickens, and people if we burn up all of our food crops?
4. How much WATER will all this ethanol production take from our acquifers?
Oh, and how much more will food prices go up after we burn all of our corn?
“Max” –
See, this is one of the reasons I like John Edwards. He goes to Iowa where corn is king and he tells them ethanol is a transistion fuel. He’s the first candidate to not tell Iowegians that growing corn for fuel is the be-all and end-all solution that will make them the new Arabs.
I respect that.
Every election cycle brings forth canidates I call “Magic Wand Politicians.” Ron Paul’s like that. So’s Dennis Kucinich.
We get wrapped up in sound bites and 30-second commercials and forget that every simple answer is simplistic.
And the world is lots more complicated than that.
Ethanol seemed like the answer a decade or so ago… until our corn crop started to eat into our food source. No civilization has ever survived eating its seed.
If it weren’t for “conservative” political bias, Cuban sugar cane would provide another energy alternative.
And if we concentrated the last 30 years of research toward making nuclear waste productive instead of a threat, who knows what someone might have discovered?
If all the money big-fossil-fuel corporations have spent in denying the consequences of burning fossil fuels had been directed toward developing energy sources other than fossil fuels, solar energy and wind energy and tidal energy and geothermal energy and conservation might… just might… have eliminated a lot of heartache.
At least the Democrats offer solutions. Republicans wants us to stay dependent of oil, Max.
Anti-Bush Protesters Prosecuted for “Unauthorized Display of Sign”December 6, 2007 By Matthew RothschildJeff Zurawski and Sarah Hartfield had never even gone to a political demonstration before this year. But because they were outraged by Bush’s war, they went to Washington a couple of times and to Camp Casey once. When they returned to their homes in DuPage County, Illinois, this spring, they decided to try to wake up their fellow citizens. And so on May 6th, they went out onto the bridge over the North-South Highway and held a banner that said, “IMPEACH Bush and Cheney—LIARS.” They also displayed a flag upside down.“If I had the money to buy a billboard, I would but I don’t,” says Zurawski, a home inspector. “So that’s what I came up with.”They were there for about an hour and a half when a state trooper pulled up.“He said he understood our message, but he was concerned about traffic safety and asked us to take the sign and flag down,” says Hartfield, a medical assistant. “We respectfully did so.”They started to leave when three deputy sheriffs showed up.One was irate, they said.“He was clenching his teeth, and his veins were bulging out, and he was red-faced,” recalls Zurawski. The deputy accused them of throwing things off the bridge.“Almost simultaneously, Sarah and I said we didn’t throw anything,” Zurawski says. “Then he asked us what our sign said, and demanded to see it. And he was shaking his head back and forth.”He also told them the upside down flag was “disrespectful to the troops,” adding: “I’m a vet, and I’ve got a kid fighting in Afghanistan,” he said, according to Zurawski and Hartfield, who tried to explain to him that they weren’t being disrespectful to the troops but that they were distressed that Bush was exploiting the troops.“The cop didn’t hear us,” says Zurawski. “He said, ‘We can’t have this here. This is mayhem.’ ”The other two deputies took down their personal information and checked it on the computers in their squad cars, but found nothing on them.So the irate officer told them they could go but warned them that he would put a call into the state’s attorney, and he hoped to see us soon, says Zurawski.Soon came in three weeks, when another DuPage County deputy walked up to Zurawski’s home with a warrant for his arrest.“I’m just here doing my job,” he said, according to Zurawski. “A judge signed this warrant. You need to come with me. We can do this one or two ways: You can be a gentleman and come with me peacefully, or I’ll call for backup and we’ll take you in. So why don’t you come with me, Jeff?”Zurawski spent several hours in jail before being released on $100 bail. When he got out, he called Hartfield and warned her there might be a warrant out for her arrest, too.“I waited after Memorial Day weekend to turn myself in,” she says. “I went and borrowed the money and drove to the Naperville police station. I told them I wanted to know what was wrong and why there was a warrant for my arrest. They were kind of evasive at the desk. They called in an officer. He handcuffed me and walked me out of the building and put me in a cruiser and drove me around to the back of the building and booked me. I asked, ‘For what?’ And he said, ‘It shows something about a May 6th war protest.’ ”Hartfield says she was upset.“I felt like a dog,” she says. “I was told to sit there on the bridge, and we did, and then just for the hell of it, they smacked us on the nose.”At first, they were charged with “disorderly conduct.” Then the prosecutors added two others: “reckless conduct” and “unauthorized display of sign.” The latter two were each punishable by up to a year in jail and $2,500 in fines. The prosecutors then offered them a plea bargain, dropping the two extra charges if they’d plead guilty to the first.Zurawski and Hartfield declined.“We had an opportunity to get out of it with a gentle wrist slap, with just 90 days court supervision, but it meant admitting to something that we didn’t do,” says Zurawski. ”And Sarah and I refused because of that.”The prosecutors dropped the extra charges anyway, but then tacked on an additional disorderly conduct charge, alleging that Zurawski and Hartfield had made a throwing motion toward the vehicles.“The content of the sign has no bearing whatsoever on the charges,” says Paul Darrah, spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s office. “It’s more of a public safety issue. We think people driving 55 mph should keep their eyes on the road, not above them. This is all we can say at this point. We stand behind the allegations and will let the court decide guilt or innocence.”Zurawski, by the way, doesn’t buy the argument about the sign distracting motorists.“If what we did is illegal, then all the signs on bridges or billboards anywhere along the highway are equally distracting and equally against the law,” he says.Zurawski and Hartfield have a court hearing on December 13, when their pro bono lawyer, Shawn Collins, will ask the judge to dismiss the case.On Tuesday, December 11, there will be a protest in support of Zurawski and Hartfield in the courtyard next to the State’s Attorney’s office at 503 N. County Farm Rd, Wheaton, IL.How many people are they expecting?“Fifty would be good and reasonable,” says Zurawksi, “and 10,000 would be nice.”
That 2:40 post was my post.
CapnA.
Why I fired my Secretary:
Last week was my birthday and I didn’t feel very well waking up on that morning.
I went downstairs for breakfast hoping my wife would be pleasant and say,
‘Happy Birthday!’, and possibly have a small present for me.
As it turned out, she barely said good morning, let alone ‘ Happy Birthday.’
I thought…
Well, that’s marriage for you, but the kids… They will remember.
My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast and didn’t say a word.
So when I left for the office, I felt pretty low and somewhat despondent.
As I walked into my office, my secretary Jane said, ‘Good Morning Boss, and by the way Happy Birthday ! ‘
It felt a little better that at least someone had remembered.
I worked until one o’clock, when Jane knocked on my door and said, ‘You know,
It’s such a beautiful day outside, and it is your Birthday, what do you say we go out to lunch, just you and me.’
I said, ‘Thanks, Jane, that’s the greatest thing I’ve heard all day.
Let’s go!’
We went to lunch. But we didn’t go where we normally would go.
She chose instead a quiet bistro with a private table.
We had two martinis each and I enjoyed the meal tremendously.
On the way back to the office, Jane said, ‘You know, It’s such a beautiful day…
We don’t need to go straight back to the office, Do We ?’
I responded, ‘I guess not. What do you have in mind?’
She said, ‘Let’s drop by my apartment, it’s just around the corner.’
After arriving at her apartment, Jane turned to me and said, ‘ Boss, if you don’t mind, I’m going to step into the bedroom for just a moment. I’ll be right back.’
‘Ok.’ I nervously replied.
She went into the bedroom and, after a couple of minutes, she came out carrying a huge birthday cake … Followed by my wife, my kids, and dozens of my friends and co-workers, all singing ‘Happy Birthday’.
And I just sat there…
On the couch…………. Naked!
Good one Dude, we can all use a good laugh now and then.
Max, I think bio-fuels have a more promising future than ethanol… largely due to the water issue… However, out in western kansas earlier this week, I was talking to some engineers working on the ethanol situation out there, and they are talking about plans to re-cycle much of the water needed to produce the ethanol…. i guess like re-using the water from the cooling towers from a nuke plant..
“Chas.” offered –
“…like re-using the water from the cooling towers from a nuke plant..”
Absolutely!
The problem with Three-Mile Island was a *plumbing* malfunction. Certainly those of us in the 21st Century can come up with programs that significantly diminish the chances of *plumbing* problems! Chernobyl was a failure of technology that tried to do nuclear power on the cheap; simply a failure of the Soviet State’s attempt at governing. And I suspect, perhaps, most civilized peoples have learned that lesson.
I find it hard to accept that, had the United States kept up with energy policies established in the 1970s, science would not have come up with a productive use of so-called “depleated” nuclear fuel… something other than “bury it.”
But no, Ronald Reagan sold out to the fossil-fuel lobby in the 1980s and effectively put back American energy independence by thirty or forty years.
One of the reasons I support John Edwards’ candidacy is that he’s had the courage to face corn farmers in Iowa and tell them their recent ethanol windfall has to be an interim, transitional technology. Every other candidate — Republic or Democrat — goes to Iowa and tells them ethanol is *the* answer. Just to get the votes.
I would put my money in bio-fuels, rather than ethanol… much brighter future, IMHO
I commend the Eagle for taking Sen. Roberts to task on the subject of whether he was informed about the destruction of the video recording. Now, we’ll see if he has the guts to give a straight forward answer or play the “I’m not going to get involved in political party partisanship” canard.
Fox News has refused to air an ad produced by the Center for Constitutional Rights that criticizes the Bush administration for “destroying the Constitution” by the use of renditions, torture, and other tactics. The ad, “Rescue the Constitution,” which is narrated by actor Danny Glover, can be viewed here and here.
In an email provided to Media Matters for America by the Center, Fox News account executive Erin Kelly told Owen Henkel, the Center’s e-communications manager, that Fox would not run the ad:
Hi Owen –
We cannot approve the spot with it being Danny Glover’s opinion that the Bush Administration is destroying the Constitution. If you have documentation that it is indeed being destroyed, we can look at that.
Sorry about that,
Erin
In 2005, Fox refused to run an ad critical of then-Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito Jr., who had been nominated by President Bush to succeed retiring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
Pretty clear pattern here.
FOX news fair and balanced? No. No not at all.
FOX refuses to run the ad because they disagree with the opinion in the ad. If that aint censorship, what is?
They just don’t want their viewers distracted from the flashy animation whoosh whoosh noises they CALL news.
Sad that. FOX news viewers are the folks who most need to see the ad.
“The Center for Constitutional Rights”
That’s the group FOX doesn’t want heard.
What was it bush said?
“The Constitution is just a god dam piece of paper!”?
It seems FOX news is on message. Well bush’s message anyway.
Kind of like NBC not running ads that “thank the troops” for their service and sacrifice eh J R?
Of course Fox News won’t run the ad. If they ran an ad from every nut job from the Left, they wouldn’t have room for anything else.
I bet a one on one Interview with one of the online Fox News Attorneys that are news caster would rip Glover o new one and foil his plans for his extremist views.
Glover can even talk to Ann Coulter, she’s a Constitutional Attorney who actually is trained to talk about such things, not make it up as you go.
Can we really trust the US Post Office anymore?? Yet another scandle involving the mail employees filching the mail again. And these stories just keep popping up all the time. Why? What about the sanctity of the mail?http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071208/ap_on_fe_st/odd_greeting_card_scheme
Thanking the troops for being over there is supporting them??
Huh.
Seems to me a better message would be “We are doing everything we can to get you home!”
But of course, we aren’t. SO that would be a lie.
I suppose some of us find it easier to just continue to thank them for their sacrifice as opposed to doing something about it. “Feel good” activism.
What was it bush said?
“The Constitution is just a god dam piece of paper!”?
—————
Actually JR, that is, of course, made up billsh*t. And you know that, unless you are a moron. But feel free to exercise your right to repeat the lie.
That zealot rant about a movie was removed earlier.
I trust it will be removed again.
And I plan to take my son to see the movie. But thanks for the anonymous concern.

Do you have a source busting that bush said it?

==========================
And Yet AGAIN, the blankster posts another rant against a movie that has JUST been released… and it is such a “fair and balanced” rant at that… NOT!!
And its about a movie that is clearly in the Fantasy genre… And doesnt even take place on THIS world…
But the ranters, and banners, and burners wouldnt want you to know any of that information about a FICTIONAL MOVIE….. would they??
I don’t like people telling me what to see or not see there Pat.
I have FOX news to try and make those decisions for me.
Oh for joy, now comes the troll Pat Herron… time to exit now…
nite all!! God bless, whatever you conceive God to be!!
Blessings All!!
MERRY XRMAS!!!

I didn’t read the original post, so no idea why it may have been pulled.
I never get a post pulled on the weekend.
It appears that some Libs on this blog are abusing a privilege and afraid of free speech.
But why is that not surprising?
If memory serves, I have asked in the forum and NOT directly of the editors that one and exactly one post be pulled.
IT was one poster declaring that he would shoot another poster in the head. This was long before the arrival or our recent ankle biters and nic switchers.
Hey, I didn’t even KNOW about this big “bad” movie until it was mentioned here.Congrats to the poster. He just sold 2 more tickets.
I have the page recorded, if it is deleted again, I’ll make the event headline news that the WE Blog is showing extreme bias against views they don’t hold by deleting posts requested by Liberal Posters.
They will become the center of attention really fast.
The question Chas is whether Christians should go to see a movie based on a blatantly anti-God book by an atheist author. Even if it is cleaned up and santiized to make it palatable.
To pay to see it is supporting and giving him money. As a Christian, I simply won’t do that, and I would urge others to avoid it.

You mean CapnAmerica? Capn has about 50 switched nics and at least one stolen nic under his belt.
CapnAmerica is the ultimate troll on this blog, he posts under so many names is hard to keep track.

I don’t know why that post was pulled.
Certainly “kansas” has had worse ones stand.
I had a post pulled myself recently for no reason anyone could explain.
There have in the past been technical glitches that kill posts or strings of posts. It may be no more than that.
Ugh, I can believe that ranter spoiled the movies for anyone reading!!!
They aren’t really that bad. They can be seen as anti-fundamentalist, but the heroine is good at heart, and is one of my favorite characters of all time.
It’s a beautiful story, and now I will go out and see it twice to make up for your lost revenue
This is becoming a pattern with you outlander.
Telling people not to see movies I mean.
Planning a book burning in the near future too are you?
They were – was a few years ago -
Kansas, this is on par with posting Harry Potter spoilers a few days after the book comes out. THAT’S why they’re deleting them, and rightfully so.

So critique of movies are not allowed?
Like I said, I didn’t read the post, maybe it other reasons it was deleted.
But certainly not for critiquing a movie?
JR: I also wouldn’t pay for a ticket to an ACLU fund raiser. I would also urge other conservatives not to as well.
Can you understand that analogy? If not, I have more.
I guess I don’t understand that line of thinking outlander.
I avail myself of all information.
Looks like Outlander is the new Consevative Blog Sgt at Arms… he gets to tell others what to see, and not see; what to attend, and not attend.
What a Nazi way you have about you Outlander!! Way to go!! You get the Swastika of the Day award!
So sugar, Outlander gives his opinion and you equate him to a Nazi?
Anybody remember when some of the old time Fundies were trying to stop the networks from showing “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”? And how they used the same arguments being used against this new movie, Golden Compass? And the Harry Potter books/movies?
That’s not entirely fair sugar.
Outlander did not post a spoiler rant about the movie. He hasn’t seen it. He won’t see it.
Probably the poster who was not even courageous enough to use a nic who DID post the spoiler didn’t see the movie either but got his information from an anti movie web site.
It’s not his opinion, Kansas, it is how he rationalizes his opinion that is troublesome.
You forgot the “Passion of Christ” sugar or maybe that slipped your mind?
JR – If he hasnt seen it, then he has really nothing to say about it. He is only basing his opinion on what somebody else says about it. I tend to agree with Tara on this one.
This is interesting. Here’s what’s important to 592 people likely to vote in the New Hampshire primary.
Two main things. Hmmm. Hillary’s $90 million in advertising is working.

That’s right, Kansas, I forgot Passion of the Christ, and Last Temptation of Christ as well. :)

So the next time a Lib quotes from the DU, MOVEON.ORG or some other Leftist Website, we can request the post be pulled, because “someone else” said it.
That seems fair to me.
No quotes from other Websites. :)
They should build them Chalene. It would be terriffic for Kansas if some were built. The sooner, the better!
I dont know if the post that was pulled came from another web site. Do you know that, Kansas?
Don’t really know much about wind turbines Chalene to make an intelligent comment. I’m unsure if they are efficient enough for electric companies to bankroll them to be built.
But I guess we should do “something” in regards to alternative energy.
I am not going to play the troll game with you, Kansas, about something I know very little about at this point in time. All I know about the film is what I have seen in the trailers, and a few synopses I have read.
Kansas,I HAVE READ ALL THREE BOOKS, and that post is not a critique. It gives away one of the most important parts of the ending.
I don’t care if your precious ears are too delicate to be subjected to views that might offend your soap bubble faith, but there is no need to ruin the movies for other people.
I think I will actually go see it three times. And check out the official site http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/It will entertain you for hours!
Kansas, once in operation, wind turbines are extremely efficient.
blah typekey going nuts again, 10:00pm post is mine – Kansas.
Tara — From what I have seen on the Trailers, I think I want to see the movie myself. Looks very entertaining. Has sort of a feel like “Lord of the Rings”
Well, I must go for now. Been interesting. Nite all!
Sugar, difficult to to when you have no support for the formr city attorny who whats nothing but me out of office. My goal is to move Trego County forward. Any suggestions?
Don’t look at me J R, I had nothing to do with posts being removed. The post I request to be removed takes Brownlee about three days to get to.
Certainly isn’t me doing it.
Another view on what the Top Issues are for America. Of course by prompting those surveyed with potential answers, you can see how a poll can be skewed in your direction:

Uh yeah
There IS no 10:00 PM post there “kansas”.
“The post I request to be removed takes Brownlee about three days to get to.”
So you HAVE asked for posts to be removed.
I never have. Not directly anyway.
Were they your own posts the ones you wanted pulled?
The 10:00 PM post was a post in response to Tara or Sugar, don’t recall now.
It wasn’t anything bad. When I posted, typekey hung up and when I came back to view the post, there was no name in the post.
I think a couple of other posters complained about typekey doing the same thing to them in the past few days.
Another poll on top issues for America:

Max, you having fun? LOL
Actually, what I think they should do for this blog is eliminate the name all together.
If posters want to include their name, they can do it in their post.
It would resolve a lot of problems in my opinion.

Now “kansas” will twist in the wind..

I would personally put these items much higher. Like, right under the Iraq situation, and above illegal immigrants.
Remember, I consider the first illegal immigrants those European folks who came here and took the country away from the rightful occupants at that time. LOL
Whatever J R.
When you start with that crap, it’s time to leave.
I was actually starting to think you were an intelligent poster.
Guess I was wrong.
Personally, I would like to see a Blog registration process. Like I have to use on other Blogs, and other places to post opinions, etc.
Please don’t post a spoiler for “The Passion of the Christ.”
It’s on my Netflix queue and I don’t want to know the surprise ending!
From what I have seen on the Trailers, I think I want to see the movie myself. Looks very entertaining. Has sort of a feel like “Lord of the Rings”

___________
sugar, the movie is actually antithetical to “Lord of the Rings” according to those who pre-screened and reviewed it.__________
And concerning the posts that were pulled, one was mine. It said nothing that spoiled the movie, but it took exception with Chas’ position and claims about the movie, as well as his liberal theological perspectives on Christianity. I pointed out that Chas’ views are universalist, and not consistent with mainstream evangelical Christianity. This is not news, and something he regularly asserts on this blog. I made no “new” claims about Chas that he has not repeatedly expressed about his own positions. I also pointed out that he misquoted and misstated the position of Albert Mohler, the person commenting on the movie. I provided the quotes that substantiated my rebuttal. Evidently Chas was mad that I pointed out his inaccurate statements and, I assume, asked that the posts be pulled. In fact at least 3 posts were pulled, and possibly 4 or 5–all of them took opposite views from Chas’ position. The only post that remained was–try not to be shocked, now–Chas’ post, which supported the film and denied that it was anti-Christian. All links and statements that supported different views were pulled. I reposted the link and information on 12/7 Open thread, and I’m doing it here also.
http://www.albertmohler.com/blog.php
And here is the link to my repost of the information that was pulled: http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2007/12/open-thread-1-6.html#comment-92834698
I would never do such a dastardly thing, M H… Honest! LOL
I think most know the movie spoiler was “kansas”.
And he sold by my count 4 tickets for a movie he doesn’t want anyone to see.
Probably more than he did otherwise all day.
I did not ask for any posts to be removed concerning that movie. And the author of the books himself says that he is not anti-christian. He does say he is anti-religion. But does not take christianity as such to task in the books, or in the film. The least you can do is be accurate, Tater…
Should be interesting to see how long your post lasts this time, eh, Tater?? LOL
BTW, Universalism has a LONG tradition in Christian thought and theology, in case you might be interested in checking it for yourself, Tater — which I doubt you would do.
Well, I read his link and he is certainly right on point and insightful.
Excellent posts Comment Tater.
If you have been keeping up with the Trego County saga, you know that the former(iniciated by me) City Attorny, Dave Harding,is in full force to remove me from office. I do not want to give up in doing what I believe is right for our comminty, which is to contine to hold him accountable for his actions and lack of. How can we as a county move forward with the power he has a county attorney to stop what we are trying to do. How do you fight an attorney with a vengeance towards me?
First — So. Baptists ARE Fundamentalists.
Second — non-Christian is not ANTI-Christian.
Third — Chronicles of Narnia are NOT the same as Lord of the Rings, which is what I posted earlier, that Golden Compass reminds me of.
ONE MORE — I am NOT an Evangelical, as you understand it. I have never claimed to BE one. So, thus, it only stands to reason that I would NOT be in agreement with many of the tenets of faith of the Evangelical crowd.
Could anything be more clear?
If YOU Tater, are allowed YOUR opinions on this Blog, am I not allowed MINE?
Believe whatever you want! I wont try to convert YOU. All I ask is that you stop trying to convert ME, or tell others that I am wrong because I dont share YOUR beliefs. Get it? Good!! Carry on!!
Sugar: I wrote that I know two things about the movie. It was based on an anti_God book. And the author is a militant atheist.
That is certainly enough information for me to make a decision not to go see the movie, even though it looked like it could be pretty good.
Principle before pleasure.
You’re blind outlander.
“comment tator” is “kansas”
But I don’t expect any better of you. Lately anyway.
OK Chalene.. You might want to request a meetin with the State Attorney General?? That might be of some help to you. And, if you have not done so already, I would highly recommend that you find a lawyer for yourself. Ok?? Keep me posted on here. And hang in there. We NEED those wind turbines in western Kansas!
BTW JR.Thanks for trying to clarify things in my favor earlier.
Your God needs defending against a movie outlander?
Chas,
You AGAIN misquote Pullman. What is remarkable is that you do it when the quotes are linked and printed all over the place. That leaves us to believe that either don’t have enough capacity to understand the truth, or you are deliberately misrepresenting it. Again, for the 4th time, here are the quotes. (Can you read, Chas?)________________
My books are about killing God.”
In the last volume of the trilogy, a character known as Dr. Mary Malone explains her discovery to Lyra and Will: “I used to be a nun, you see. I thought physics could be done to the glory of God, till I saw there wasn’t any God at all… The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that’s all.”
Pullman hates C. S. Lewis’s work The Chronicles of Narnia. He told Hannah Rosin that Lewis’s famous work is “morally loathsome” and “one of the most ugly and poisonous things I ever read.” Narnia, he said, “is the Christian one . . . . And mine is the non-Christian.”
“I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief,” says Pullman.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A23371-2001Feb18?
J R — for the record, I do not think “Comment Tater” is Kansas. Not the same writing style at all.
You are mostly wrong outlander.
But I won’t see you taken to task for someone else’s posts. Even if you do agree with them.
Like I said before, Non-Christian, is NOT the same as Anti-Christian. Do you not get that?
Or is that beyond your capacity to understand? Read all three books, and see what “God” Pullman is attempting to “kill”
Certainly not the God of the Bible!
Look, Tater, I am not going to sit here and argue with you about some silly movie that has no basis in fact to begin with.
Nuff said… DNFTT
The State Attorney General is already involved by Dave Harding and I feel the AG has already tainted by Dave Harding’s ability to influence special procecuter Tom Drees. I will not give up! But it seems my goal will be himdered by the unfair accusations against me. My goal is to bring wind farms to our county. And move forward for the betterment of the community.
BTW Chas, universalism is antithetical to Christianity. By definition, Christianity proclaims Christ as the only means of salvation. Get it? CHRIST-ianity? Universalism (which claims all roads lead to heaven) has been an ongoing HERESY in the church which is repeatedly, historically repudiated. So, your position, as you state it, is repudiated by historic Christianity, and contemporary Evangelicalism. For the sake of honesty, Chas, you really should stop claiming to be a Christian minister. Or at least introduce your thoughts and posts with all kinds of disclaimers that say you don’t come close to representing anything that most people associate with Biblical Christianity.
Hang in there, Chalene… Keep us posted here… This should be interesting.
I note that you continue to deny to the clearly stated position of Pullman:
“I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief,” says Pullman.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A23371-2001Feb18?
Why do you continue to deny what Pullman says, Chas?
Ick
Can’t tell the players without a program anymore at night.
Who is it advocating for just that upthread?
I’m out. I prefer to know who I am discussing such deep stuff with.
Well, Tater, that might well be YOUR understanding of Universalism.. But certainly not the understanding of the former Universalist Church, dating back more than 300 years. It is very protestant, and very much involved with Biblical Christianity.
The Evangelical movement as it is know today, is relatively new on the scene. MY traditions are of the OLD Evangelical movement, starting with the Reformation in Germany. In my denomination, we call ourselves children of the Reformation… So sorry if that doesnt fall within your narrow views of Christianity…
Just stop putting down MY belief systems… I am not putting yours down, except or when you begin to put me down for my theology and beliefs… That is where your freedom of belief stops… But I think you already know that… In case you dont, now you do!!
Just forget the stupid movie!! I will go see it if/when I get time, and availability
Thank you. It is a very complicated story , but I feel when the entire story can be told, it should change the way an Attorney can manipulate a city for political gain.
Sell some more tickets all night commentator”kansas”
What’s your story Chalene?
Yes, Pullman is an atheist, and the books paint the Christian church in a negative light.
Go see the movie anyway, the story is SPECTACULAR. That is, if your faith is not too weak to be destroyed by a fantasy movie.
Tater — What Pullman’s desire is, has little concern to me.. My faith is big enough to handle the wayward atheists of this world. They are all around us.
I dont need to try to stop them, and they cant stop ME from my faith! I dont understand people who’s faith is sooo threatened by a movie or a book! That is just so unreal for me to even imagine how that can be possible!
I would ordinarily say that those whose faith is shaken by some book or movie, need a deeper faith of their own, or else it wouldnt bother them…
But, here lately, I see so much of this “Ban It, Burn It” mentality, I dont know what to think anymore.
MY faith is strong enough for this movie, or most any other movie! NOW — please notice — I have nowhere stated I would encourage CHILDREN to see this movie, at least not until I have seen it all for myself.
And then, I will have something on which to base my recommendations.
I still say that from what I have seen of the Trailers, it reminds me somewhat of Lord of the Rings (which is not Chronicles of Narnia) — So, now, Tater, just drop the whole stupid thing!!
Just keep in mind, that your man Mohler is indeed a Fundamentalist Baptist… whether you want to accept that or not!! And his beliefs will naturally predispose his opinion of something he has not, in fact, yet seen!!
“I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief,” says Pullman.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A23371-2001Feb18?
Pullman’s position and statement is not what you claimed, Chas. You are exposed as one who is either ignorant of Pullman’s position (which he doesn’t seemed ashamed of at all), or one who is deliberately misrepresenting the facts. Which is it? If you don’t know Pullman’s positions, stop making a fool of yourself by claiming that you do. If you’re deliberately trying to misrepresent it, try telling the truth for a change. It’s clear to *EVERYONE*, whether they agree with you or me, that you have repeatedly been inaccurate about what you’ve said, and that you’ve refused to recant in spite of the evidence. What kind of man are you? What kind of minister are you?
I plan to see it Tara… just not sure when yet…
What Pullman wants to do, is of little concern to me, Tater… He cant do it if people dont allow him to do it… The Church can make a mockery of itself all by itself… without the aide of any atheist writer!! And there have been many of them throughout the centuries… Why are you so blasted worried about a Fantasy Movie?? I am a LIBERAL Christian… I am of a LIBERAL denomination… I am very HAPPY in my faith!! Now, go and be happy in yours!! And leave others alone!!
Chas,
Again, you misrepresent Mohler. Mohler is a Southern Baptist, not a Fundamental Baptist–a term you use as perjorative. He is president of Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. Both Mohler and the seminary are Southern Baptist.
You also inaccurately relate Mohler’s viewing of the movie. Had you read the blog article as you claimed, you would have noted that he saw an early screening of it. Which time did you lie? The time you said you read Mohler’s blog, or the time you said he had not yet seen the movie? (Actually, you lied both times.)
Well, if he said he saw an early screening, then I missed that part… Soooo sorry!!
Like I said, just leave me alone with MY faith, and go be happy in yours… and I will still insist that Southern Baptists are indeed Fundamentalist Baptists!! That is not perjorative… just factual!!
They are called Fundamentalists because they hold to what they say are the Five Fundamentals of Faith… Go look it up, instead of making accusations on me…
Actually, at one point on that web site, Mohler says he actually sort of liked the movie..
I did forget to mention that earlier…
Nite all!!
I think it’s time to repost a classic from Emo Phillips:
I was in San Fransisco once, walking along the Golden Gate Bridge, and I saw this guy on the bridge about to jump. So I thought I’d try to stall and detain him, long enough for me to put the film in. I said, “Don’t jump! God loves you, you silly ninny.”He said, “How do you know there’s a God?”He said, “I do believe in God.”I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?”He said, “A Christian.”I said, “Me too. Protestant or Catholic?”He said, “Protestant.”I said, “Me too! What franchise?”He says, “Baptist.”I said, “Me too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?”He says, “Northern Baptist.”I said, “Me too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?”He says, “Northern Conservative Baptist.”I say, “Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist or Northern Conservative Reform Baptist?”He says, “Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist.”I say, “Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Eastern Region?”He says, “Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region.”I say, “Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879 or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?”He says, “Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.”I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over!
Snopes has a good summary of information on the Golden Compass:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp
JR: There isn’t enough time because it is very complicated story. In a nut shell. I was expected, as a new council member, to dismiss our city attorney immediatly due to his inability to complete his work in a timely manner. I found no evidence at that time to take that stand. However as time went on it was evident that we, as the city, had some major proplems with our city attorney. I held him accountable for his lack of work and unwilliness to serve to council. I also found out that that he had never qualified for KPERS for thr last 27 years. When I called him on it. it wasn’t long after that he got a special prosecutor to attemp to charge me with a criminal crime. What is most interesting is that he was present during councils discussions and approvals but he said not one word of the possibility we should be handling the issue differently. He gather information and requested a special procecutor to prosecute for political gain.
My wife and I were planning to see The Golden Compass. Then we started hearing the commentaries about it. It’s not a matter of whether your faith is strong or not, it’s about whether you support ideas like that by spending your money to see it.
We won’t be going to see it after all.
The 11:34 post is not MINE!! It isnt in Blue!! Damn nic stealing numb nuts!!
I think we know that, “Chas.” –
More Emo Phillips, just to lighten the mood:
“When I was a kid, I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord, in his wisdom, didn’t work that way. So I just stole one and asked him to forgive me.”
That’s disappointing XXX.
The commentaries of others have guided you as to what you will or will not see?
How credible are the commentators?
Are they anymore credible than “comment tator”?
I’ve no stake in whether anyone sees the movie. But when people don’t want me to see a movie, I start asking why.
Hey, I’m not the one arm flailing all over about a Fantasy movie, where a streetwise kid and some armored plated bears go wandering around across multiple worlds, looking to destroy a Senile God –
Does this mean that all of these rightie tighties think their God is senile now??? If not, then what do they care if the kid in the movie wants to kill off a “pretender” God — as referenced in the Snopes article??
I try to leave here, and some of you numb skulls keep on, and keep on, and wont stop!!
Just go and be happy with your own religion, and leave other folks alone!!
And yes, this IS a happy, and holy Season!! So mote it be!!
And I am sure that the Blog Editors will get to the bottom of the nic stealing, and the obnoxious/semi-obscene postings that have been occurring frequently. In fact, I know they will work on that matter! It is in their best interests to do so.
I keep hearing that someone instructed others not to see the movie. I have yet to see the first person say, “Don’t go see the GC,” though I’ve seen several say they personally were going to bypass it. Perhaps someone did tell others not to see it, but I haven’t said it, and I didn’t find it in this thread. I have posted the writer’s philosophy, perspective and agenda so that others would be able to make an informed choice. Though some tried to dispute that, they were thoroughly rebutted and embarrassed. Several times. The evidence I’ve posted was thoroughly documented with links and quotes. As JR always does at this time when he’s had just a few too many beers, he just blindly asserts that whatever source presented is not credible. In this case, it’s the Washington Post. From his perspective, a drunk JR is more credible than the WP.
Is this the best the libs can do? JR and Chas?
“The Golden Compass teaches children that bears can talk.”
Gee, I love this one… So did Disney, and Hannah/Barbara, and Looney Tunes, and Warner Brothers… Animals talk in ALL of the cartoons!! Geez… So, bears can talk… Oh, and yea, then there was the greatest of ALL talking bears:
Remember, Only YOU can prevent forest fires!! (Smokey the Bear)
This would be too funny, if it wasnt so blasted sad!!
And Rev. Billy, your URL gives you away… you might want to give it a rest?? LOL Way too funny for this time of night!!
Go to church folks… Celebrate the Holy Season of Advent!! And by all means, prepare for a very Merry XRMAS!!!
Actually, Genesis calls the creature a “Serpent” which is not necessarily to be interpreted as being a snake, in ancient times. Serpents in many cultures of the ancient middle east talked with great regularity, not just in Jewish culture. And who knows? Maybe they really DID talk at one time! Apparently they had legs as well!! Read in Genesis after the Fall sequence.
Calling me out commontator?
Let’s dance.
You advocate against me seeing a movie.
Why? Is it because your god and your beliefs leave me suspicious?
I don’t advocate against movies. I keep an open mind and encourage others too.
Hmmmm Long time poster, and Monkey hawk and Rev. Billy all have the same URL… most interesting… most interesting!!
Yup, Chas.
Kansas stops blogging and somebody with the URL “pompetusoflove” starts stealing nics.
Why is that not a surprise?
Well, it really isnt… But, Monkey Hawk appears to be a liberal??
Can anybody say “meltdown” ??? LOL
He’s been very quiet about that bet in the last couple of months, Chas.
But, ya know, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
1:53 post was mine.

I’m sure they already know that a few of the regular Libs are the ones doing the most of this.
I see the night owls have been throwing pillows again.
Anyway, there is an column in the KC star today about the military and enlistment bonuses. Seems if you get a bonus, get injured in the war, and can’t complete your enlistment, you get to repay your bonus back to the government. One such soldier suffered brain damage in Iraq, and the government wants $3000 back.
Thankfully, congress is addressing the problem, and hopes to change that quickly. As the columnist says, It’s should be the military that should absorb the bonus cost after a soldier does what he was paid to do, and suffered debilitating wounds for it.
One thing I would note about the ID/evolution debate: The Catholic church claims to be the church Christ founded at the last supper. If that claim is true, and there is much to support that claim, and the church itself does not believe in ID, as presented by the creationists, then, in my opinion, creationism is dead wrong. Which would make all claims of creationism wrong: it didn’t happen as claimed.
My other thought for the day is this: Whether or not global warming is man-made or not, global warming is happening. The evidence is too strong to dispute it. What I’m not reading anyplace is how are we going to address the problem in terms of the changing environment.
What are we going to do when Kansas becomes a dry state? What are we going to do when rivers, lakes and streams dry up and the the hydroelectric dams no longer get enough water to produce power? How are we going to reshape the landscape to grow food in places not now able to?
Food, water, power, human habitat; they’re all going to change if the earth keeps warming. Where are the planners, and what are their plans?
What’s Atlanta going to do in 4 months when they run out of water?
Dont know Phantom… we should ask Kev!!
Sure would make a big ghost town!
