RepubliCONs are doing the only thing they do well . . . throwing elections to make sure the majority doesn’t win.
Looks like they finally lost a round though–

California electoral vote plan won’t make June ballot
By Dan Morain, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer7:07 PM PST, December 6, 2007A proposed initiative that drew national attention for its potential to affect the 2008 presidential election will not appear on the June ballot, organizers said Thursday.
Republican backers of the measure, which could have titled the presidential contest toward the GOP nominee by changing how California awards electoral votes, conceded that they were unable to raise sufficient money.
Sacramento consultant Dave Gilliard, the campaign manager, said that even if a financial angel were to shower the campaign with $1 million, there is not enough time to qualify the measure for June.
“I was surprised that more people that finance these types of efforts didn’t step forward,” Gilliard said. “We had strong supporters and good supporters but didn’t come anywhere close to making the budget.”
For those that haven’t been following the complete black-out by the “liberal media,” California RepubliCONs were trying to bugger the system so that some electoral votes would go to the losing (i.e., Republican) candidate, instead of winner-take-all like it is now.
That’s a great idea, but only if ALL the big states in the Union (Texas, Florida, Ohio) do it at the same time. If a big Dem state switches to representational electors, it will clearly benefit RepubliCONs, and that’s why they’re trying to do it there.
Did the “liberal media” mention how the RepubliCONS were getting signatures by telling people they were signing a form concerning children and cancer?
On this day in 1941, the U.S. was victim of a sneak attack by the Japanese.
Never forget.
So you maroons are only figuring out about the initiative in California now? It’s been out there for mnonths…but then I have noticed that you are kinda slow…
Not only that, but one form or another of it has been discussed since the 2000 elections…
…since all the whining about the “stolen” election, ya know…
“swallow my nickel” –
The California initiative has been on the radar, but most Democrats have chosen to let the Republic Party gather enough rope to hang themselves.
When the (paid) petition sollicitors were reduced to claiming their petitions were “for children and cancer” we knew we’d won. What?! Not mention “we need your signature to support fuzzy kittens and cute puppies”?! You’ve obviously never tried to enter a Ralph’s grocery store.
These are the same people who tried to get petitions signed to make English the Official Language of California a few years back. Problem is, the California Constitution is and has always been bi-lingual, since the 1850s! The only way the petition would have been valid was for the amendment to be bi-lingual. Wonder why *that* effort didn’t work out….
What’s the world coming to, when Republic’s can’t gerrymander an election in a state?
I’m surprised that the Democratic party hasn’t adopted the proposal as their own, and tried to pass it in every state. After all, it should work in their favor in the states that have typically gone Republican…and given the current dissatisfication with the President, it could greatly enhance their chances. After all, the Democratic Congressional or Senatorial candidate doesn’t have to win each district for it to kick in, only the Democratic Presidential candidate has to win the district to get the electoral vote.
Ok, WE Journalist, let’s get to the bottom of this story and interview Sen. Roberts and see if he gave his blessing to destroying evidence!”Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden told employees in a letter that the videotapes were made in 2002 as part of a secret detention and interrogation program that began with the arrest of suspected al Qaeda lieutenant Abu Zubaydah.”
There may not be enough people left in California that identify with the Republic. party to push their legislation through.
Democrats are going to lose the presidential election anyway, because we are too idealistic and stupid to come up with someone who is electable. Huckabee will be the golden boy for the religious right and there are enough of those simple minded folk to swallow all the spin, rethoric, and swiftboating of the democratic candidate…business and politics as usual.
Here’s the relevant passage, I meant to post about the destruction of evidence.”In his message to agency workers, Hayden said that House and Senate intelligence committee leaders had been informed of the existence of the tapes and the CIA’s intention to destroy them to protect the identities of the questioners. He also said the CIA’s internal watchdog watched the tapes in 2003 and verified that the interrogation practices were legal. Hayden said the tapes were destroyed three years after the 2002 interrogations.
A convicted murderer who shot a married couple execution style during a robbery, leaving their children orphaned, received two life sentences for his crime. He was let out of prison after less than 20 yrs to continue his life of crime and was sent back to prison, only to be paroled again and again committing more crimes that got him sent back, he continued to come up for parole which was always passionately resisted by the family and friends of his victims, only to receive parole AGAIN yesterday.
Where in the hell is the justice for him and his victims? And we wonder why one can’t walk down the street in this country without fear of being victimized. The family and friends of his victims will never have closure as long as this murderer of their loved ones is alive and walking the streets.
Kudos to the Kansas parole board for being an incompetant bunch of fools.
Mary, I’ll vote for a Democrat if Ron Paul is running as the vice prez.
Mary, that’s sick. Cold blooded murderers should never be paroled.
God Bless our great American President Bush. Banks and employees take a holiday.
No scrooge this year.

Why in the world would the typical Kansas citizen worry about what’s going on in California? And why would some blogger mispell so many words in his/her post? Do you suppose him/her has a learning disability?
Yep, Kev, Good ole’ boy bush keeps em dying in foreign countries, while the white collars get the day off. But bushette amway thinks it’s okay.
Hillary is religious too, and takes a very clear stand on gun control here:

12/6/2007Hillary Clinton Statement on Tragedy in Omaha”I am deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy in Omaha. My thoughts are with the families who have been devastated by these killings and experienced such an incredible loss. At this very difficult moment, let us keep those affected by yesterday’s violence in our prayers.”
(Hillary wouldn’t hide her true agenda on gun control would she?)
Max:Would you rather all the candidates run through the blood spilled in NE to politicize this tragedy?
No Poster Boy, only Hillary would do that.
Max as far as Kansas goes, I would not think Hillary has much chance. Almost to the person the Democrats I know in real life. Say they would not vote for her, unless the GOP puts up someone like Rudy. Than suddenly they would think Hillary is as beautiful as Miss America. There are a number of republicans I know have the same thoughts.
December 7, 1941.
Now why did we have to go to war after America was attacked?
Oh come on writerdog, every Democrat in Kansas will vote for Hillary. They may not like her, but they will hold their nose and vote for her anyway.
Why? Because she is a Democrat, and the Union tells Dems to vote for her.
Whether the Dems turn out more then the Repubs is another question.
(Hillary wouldn’t hide her true agenda on gun control would she?)
Posted by: Max
Max, this is typically just her first statement. There will be more. She will not be able to resist letting her true feelings on gun control slip.
All good things take time.
56 years later, Japan and America, friends and allies.
How about that?
I’m proud of our WWII vets.
MAX:You posted this as her comment:”I am deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy in Omaha. My thoughts are with the families who have been devastated by these killings and experienced such an incredible loss. At this very difficult moment, let us keep those affected by yesterday’s violence in our prayers.”
Where is her “agenda” in the above statement?
Poster Boy, Hillary is hiding her agenda. She can’t get elected if she reveals her gun ban plan.
Hillary is good friends with Sara Brady and is closely affiliated with this group. Hillary’s position is the same as this:
America Again Witnesses The Cost
Of Assault Weapons In Civilian Hands
For Immediate Release:12-06-2007
Washington, D.C. – Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement about yesterday’s tragic shooting in Omaha, Nebraska:
“Our sympathies and prayers go to the families of the eight who died and the five who were wounded in yesterday’s mall shooting in Omaha.
“Having a military-style assault rifle and high-capacity ammunition clips enabled a troubled young man to kill and injure a large number of people quickly and efficiently. Allowing the easy acquisition and possession of military-style weapons like this is foolhardy and the results are tragic.
“We need to find out how and where the killer got this gun and this ammunition. We need to stop selling military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips to civilians. The killer knew what he was going to do, and he knew what tools he needed. Our weak gun laws make these killing machines readily available. We can take steps to prevent tragedies like this in the future.”
http://www.handguncontrol.org/media/release.php?release=948
Once again, “Max” demonstrates the common good sense of my personal firearms policy:
Anyone in the United States has the right to own any firearms they want, unless they really, *really,* *REALLY!* want them.
Now the Brady campaign is wrong on several counts:
“Allowing the easy acquisition and possession of military-style weapons like this is foolhardy and the results are tragic.”
1) 20,000 gun laws are on the books already. They are not being enforced. The Nebraska shooter stole his rifle from his step-father. Passing more laws without improving law enforcement will do nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
“We need to find out how and where the killer got this gun and this ammunition. We need to stop selling military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips to civilians. The killer knew what he was going to do, and he knew what tools he needed. Our weak gun laws make these killing machines readily available.”
2) We have strong gun laws. They are not always enforced. Keep in mind that a bolt-action rifle was used to kill JFK. Not only can no one define what an “assault rifle” is, but they can also not document why an “assault rifle” is any more effective then any other firearm.
“We can take steps to prevent tragedies like this in the future.”
3)Yeah, like ENFORCE EXISTING LAWS.
The Nebraska shooter was a convicted felon. It was against the law for him to posses a firearm.
The shooter stole the gun. It’s against the law to steal a gun.
The shooter walked into a mall where guns are not allowed. The shooter broke the mall rules.
The mall security cameras clearly showed the shooter walking into the mall, going up the elevator to the 3rd floor, and shooting people. What good are security cameras if no security guard takes action?
What good are security guards if they are not armed?
What good is a concealed carry law if the Mall prevents law abiding citizens from carrying their firearms to defend themselves or others?
Passing more gun laws that cannot be enforced, will NOT solve the problem.
…yesterday’s news that major lenders had agreed to freeze rates on some subprime adjustable-rate mortgages stirred deep resentment.
“It seems almost like you are rewarded for being less responsible,” said the management consultant, 33. “There are a lot of downsides for people who didn’t buy into a lot of the frenzy.”

There is no question in Kansas. In the year 2000 and the year 2004, only one county in the great state of Kansas is blue:
Douglas County: Rock Chalk Jayhawkliberal KU.
The other 104 counties are solid red. (The WEBLOG serves a small pocket of blue in a vast sea of red in Wichita).

It is interesting our military still occupies Japan 56 years after the war ended. We have bases throughout Japan and Okinawa.
Hey dumb ass MAX:
My question was where in her comments of condolence was Hillary expressing an agenda?
I didn’t say she did or didnot have an agenda, I am saying that her comments were what they appear to be: appropriate condolence!
Max that is under estimating the enemy the same as Democrats assume that who ever the Republicans put up we have to vote for. In the past that may well have been true for both parties, but 08 might just be the year that most people actually think about who they vote for. With the majority realizing what such sheepish voting habits had gotten them. For years now people have been complaining about having to vote for the lesser of two evils. But in the case of Hillary that maybe her asset, at least as for moderate and more liberal Republicans (sound like a oxymoron huh?). Rudy is nothing more than a one trick pony, plus he has quite a few of the same traits as G.W. Bush. Taking into account that he is the social conservatives worst nightmare for a President. he was already dancing on the head of a pin as it was. But by the time of the election I look for him to sink like a rock.
But if not, I think Hillary has two prays at night one being she gets the nod of the party. It may be her best chance this time around, second is that Rudy somehow gets the GOP nod. Against him she is the lesser of the two evils. And believe me, to me that means Rudy has to be really evil!Hillary has left a bad taste in my mouth for years.
When is the media going to publish the condolences or ALL the candidates?
Normally, this would follow two or three days after Hillary gets her attention. But that is only for big media events. And then the comments are relegated to page six.
http://www.jca.apc.org/wsf_support/2004doc/WSFJapUSBaseRepoFinalAll.html#U.S._Military_Presence
We have some 26,000 American troops in Japan according to the above source.
Of course, the main job of our military was not to OCCUPY it like we’re doing in Iraq, but to DEFEND it from Communist aggressors like the USSR, North Korea, and the PRC.
That, and the mucho dinero we pump into their economy make it an attractive bargain for the Japanese.
It’s pretty stupid on our part however. It’s a massive socialized cost of Coca-cola capitalism.
For Republican Congressional leaders, it would seem that American service personnel are cannon fodder and human shields behind which to hide–nothing more.
Oh go burn a flag or something. This isn’t going to stick. We all know it is the party of Kerry Gore Billary Hillary and the Morman Reid who hate and dispise the “killers” in the military.
“but 08 might just be the year that most people actually think about who they vote for.”
I truly hope you are right Writerdog.
I have my doubts. Past elections have not proven that there is much thought.
1)It’s how you FEEl about a candidate.
2)It’s how cute they are.
3)Do they say nice things. How good are their Plattitudes and Sound Bites?
4)Now with Hillary and Obama running, the press is saying that your own Color and Sex will affect who you vote for.
How stupid is America?
The official occupation of Japan was for seven years: 1945-1952. There is no question that for many years following, our mission was to ensure American influence over Japan and the entire far east region.
CapnAmerica makes an excuse that a good republican and stupid democrat would use: “We will need to keep bases in the region for long term support and the fight against Al Queda.”
The truth is: The occupation of Japan and Germany following those wars – is no different than the long term American influence and desires in the middle east.
Remember the oil Capn?
Thanks for admitting that the war in Iraq was for “the oil” instead of for the security of the United States, like President Liar said it was, AmWay.
Hillary wants long term bases in the region. She has stated such.
She must be after the oil too.
Huckabee will be the golden boy for the religious right and there are enough of those simple minded folk to swallow all the spin, rethoric, and swiftboating of the democratic candidate…business and politics as usual.

Mary why would you label those who have a different opinion than you in such a harsh manner? What happened to tolerance of difference and diversity?
I can’t figure you right wing kooks out.
Do you WANT me to vote for Senator Clinton and you’re trying to pull a brer Rabbit briar patch scheme?
I can’t speak for Mary.
I myself don’t want tolerance. Not in politics. Not with you people.
I want a candidate that gives you con pukes night sweats.
J R it really doesn’t matter if you vote or not. Kansas is going to the republican candidate.
And if Hillary wins, someone will have to point Kansas out for her on the map anyway.
JR not me, Hillary sounds like she is a Neocon. BTW the other day you commented about Fox News talking to their viewers like they are little kids. OMG I was watching the other night and the anchor actually explained the people running out of the mall with their hands up! “That is a sign they are the good guys”.
I want a candidate that gives you con pukes night sweatsOH so you like Ron Paul after all! LOL
I want a candidate that gives you con pukes night sweats.

You are out of luck with me J R. None of the candidates from either party would make that much difference in my life. If Hillary is elected, I will have to work that much harder to protect my investments and shelter as much as I can from the long arm of the greedy. Following her, Obama, a few more libs, but then even Huckee has me concerned.
But night sweats? I don’t take my politic’s nearly as seriously as you must.
Healthcare may be an issue – only if someone tries to steal THAT from me as well.
I’m one of the vast silent majority of Americans who are satisfied with my healthcare.
“Side Bar” –
Just what part of “global” do you not understand? Hurricanes are Atlantic phenomena. In the Indian and Pacific, they’re called typhoons. Bengla Desh got it good as did lots of other Asian nations. Last week’s 125 mph storm in the Pacific Northwest was the faded remnant of a huge typhoon that went unreported because it mostly existed in open ocean.

Well, we went to war against the country that attacked us. No problem. Japan attacked us.
Iraq did not attack us. Justify that war.
Ronald,
>Even one of Bill’s whores can be forgiving:
Why are you slamming Gennifer Flowers? He was the married one. He was the politician. He was the cheater!
He is the bastard! He was, now Bill has sympathy because of his heart attack and doing charity work.
Why anyone wants that guy back in the White House is beyond me. Bill is still more a story than Hillary.
Why would our Republican Congressmen (both houses) support subsidies to the extremely profitable Oil companies at the expense of the AMT tax relief. Are they really interested in the economic well being of the middle class Republican? Think Before You Vote next Nov.
Should have added not only the oil companies but the hedge funds, whom the Republicans don’t think should be taxed like the regular Joe.
The post by ? about Iraq shooting at US aircraft (they hit none) doesn’t wash as an excuse to go to war with them.
Gee, didn’t Ike send U2s over Russia and got one shot down? Why wasn’t that an excuse for Russia to attack the United States?
Your argument is pointless.
Sounds like a nepotistic little war:http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071207/ts_nm/usa_blackwater_krongard_dc_1
Used to feel kind of sorry for the missle fodder that had to light up our radars just to get themselves taken out. Not a job I’d of wanted.
Marine re-charged in Falluja killings, shame that our guys were put into these positions!http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071207/ts_nm/usa_marine_fallujah_dc_1

Just pretending to be a Republican, Ksgrm.
Ooooh! Touche, Mary.
“Marine re-charged in Falluja killings….”, The Phantom says gleefully.

Phantom, thanks for the link. I see that you support the troops in the true liberal fashion.
I’ll take that 5,000 dollar bet that you never post over any other nics now . . . .

========================Looks like you got im this time CapN… But, no doubt he will try to say his “dog” did it LOL
Why have we not heard audio of these radio transmissions mentioned in phantom’s link?
Is the stress of what bush is doing to our military beginning to affect their behavior and judgment? Why is that being concealed?
Go Get Him CapN!!
So… NBC doesnt want to do free advertising for a Non Profit Web Site… The problem is??
I don’t hold the troops responsible, they did not put themselves in this untenable position. I can empathize with them, they were trained to follow orders, and must have felt that it would be totally irresponsible to leave people the considered trying to kill them, but also couldn’t drag them along on their assault. All of this brought about courtesy of Blackwater being hated and attacked.
Right blank… sure its a movie to avoid… it doesnt even take place on THIS world… If you havent read the book, or seen the film, lets not burn it just yet… But I do know how the Nazi types like to Ban and Burn what they dont want people to see or read… Oh well!! And it isnt even about the Church, or Jesus… And the GOD in the movie is some senile old “pretender” to Godhood… kind of like an old decrepit Pat Robertson??? LOL
Read it or watch it, before you call for it to be banned…
Your advice to others should be well taken, since you Blog with a Blank!! LOL
It’s just a fantasy… like Superman, or Batman… Why make more of it than it is?? I didnt say anything about kids watching it, now did I?? Why must you make up stuff as you go?? Proud of that Blank post thing, eh??
Mohler is terribly wrong on one major point(please note Mohler is a Fundamentalist Baptist) — The movie is NOT a direct attack on Christianity, or on Jesus, or on the Bible… But rather, the portrayal of “religion” as the dominant force in the lives of people, and when the “God” in the movie is confronted, it turns out to be a decrepit old geezer, not worth the “killing”… Just as I posted earlier…
So, Tater, I suggest you actually READ what you post, and perhaps even go see the film, before you attack either ME, or the film… Jerk!!
One other note: The “Magisterium” in the film, is the great hoped for model of many theocratic type thinkers, including James Dobson, and D. James Kennedy right here in the United States, who dream of religion one day RULING the nation…
Could be that the Golden Compass is merely projecting what COULD happen, if such a theocratic State should ever again become a reality in our country??
Could be that the Golden Compass is merely projecting what COULD happen if, say, Radical Islam, ever became a dominant force in world governments??
So, relax folks… This is not a movie that is out to get your Bible, or your God… Even Mohler says the movie is in the genre of “Fantasy”… Thus, by definition, not a portrayal of any reality… So, perhaps we should keep the critiques within the realm of the definition of Fantasy… Should keep things more civil that way, rather than the personal attacks of the Tater above, or the “blank” for that matter.
I’m being implored not to see or let my kid see a MOVIE?
BY someone without even the courage to post a nic?
I’m gonna give that all the consideration it doesn’t deserve.
Hey, I’m having trouble with my links.
Could some helpful person help ol’ J R?
See? There is an ad that defends our Constitution.
FOX news has refused to run it.
Fair and balanced? Uh huh.
I got this streak in me.
I think it’s called good old American independent thinking.
Now when someone tells me I shouldn’t see something? Well it kinda sorta makes me WANT to see it.
All kinda cranky narrow folks in the world. I don’t care to limit myself to the perspective they want to project on me.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071207/D8TCR30O0.html
Or is it NBC?
Or maybe they have valid reasons for doing it? JR?
Why are you addressing me outlander?
I asked for a link to the ad that FOX news will not run.
That a political group would not cut the last half second of an ad and was thus turned down airing the ad on NBC? The political group went LOOKING for the attention, as your link says.
Why are you addressing me outlander?
Umm.. because you brought it up?
Chas.,
Here’s Mohler’s link, which you apparently asked to have pulled.
http://www.albertmohler.com/blog.php
If you’re going to try to paint Mohler as an extremist (quote, Chas: “please note Mohler is a Fundamentalist Baptist”), you must disclose that you, yourself, take an extremely liberal view of the Bible, far departed from mainstream Evangelical Christianity. Anything goes, as far as interpretation, and whatever god one chooses to follow is as good as the next. (As evidence, note your standard closing: “Good night; Good luck; and God bless; whatever you conceive God to be!!”)
You stated, “The movie is NOT a direct attack on Christianity, or on Jesus, or on the Bible…” However, Mohler’s article directly quotes Pullman, the writer, as presenting the opposite. Evidently you assumed or interpreted incorrectly, or you didn’t read Mohler’s article at all and deliberately misrepresented it. Here are quotes from Pullman (the writer) and from his film that disprove what you said and demonstrate that HE IS attacking Christianity by design:
“My books are about killing God.”
In the last volume of the trilogy, a character known as Dr. Mary Malone explains her discovery to Lyra and Will: “I used to be a nun, you see. I thought physics could be done to the glory of God, till I saw there wasn’t any God at all… The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that’s all.”
Pullman hates C. S. Lewis’s work The Chronicles of Narnia. He told Hannah Rosin that Lewis’s famous work is “morally loathsome” and “one of the most ugly and poisonous things I ever read.” Narnia, he said, “is the Christian one . . . . And mine is the non-Christian.”________
By the way, you are also wrong about Albert Mohler. He is NOT a Fundamentalist Baptist; he is a Southern Baptist who believes that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. Those are mainstream Christian beliefs, which you have expressed that you do not agree with MANY TIMES on this Blog. Now that is full disclosure.
Great comments Comment Tater and valuable insights.
I watched that Narnia thing with my kid. I found it pedantic. It dripped with fundamentalist dogma.
I shall be taking my son to see “The Golden Compass”.
I see the ranting post telling me not to has been removed. Good.
That’s because the Capn is a Hollyfornian.
