Obama closing gap with Clinton

ObamaclintondebateBarack Obama, who is maintaining his slight lead in Iowa, has significantly closed the gap with Hillary Clinton in New Hamphire, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll. Earlier this fall, Clinton was up by 20 points in New Hamphire but is now only ahead by 6 points. Still, the poll found that Clinton’s supporters are more enthusiastic and loyal than are Obama’s. Clinton was also viewed as the most trusted of the Democratic candidates, but Obama’s surge is because more voters are placing “new direction and new ideas” as a higher priority than “strength and experience.”

Here is what Dick Morris has to say.

(The Blog Spam Filter would not let me link to Dick Morris)

Actually, BOTH primaries, Republican and Democrat, are connected.

The Independents will vote in the Republican Primary, for the most part, in most states, if the Democrat Primary is locked up.

If the Democrat Primary is a true “horse race” the Independents will probably vote on the Democrat side.

So, Hillary in “trouble” actually means a MORE conservative Republican primary result.

I think Morris makes some sense, on this one.

Question I ask is how will things shape up as this becomes a two-person race? I think Edwards will be out before we know the college football national champion. Where will his supporters (and also Richardson’s etc) go?

  4. Posted December 6, 2007 at 1:48 pm | Permalink

I don’t know when the football game is, “Ben” –

But I suspect Edwards and Obama will do well in Iowa and the inevitablity of Senator Clinton’s nomination will be hurt.

Anything less than a clear victory in New Hampshire will further dent her armor. President Clinton became the “Comeback Kid” despite losing in New Hampshire. Mrs. Clinton doesn’t have that luxury.

    “Econ101″ –

I thought most Republic Party primaries and caucuses are closed. Independents can’t participate in the Kansas caucus and Virginia has that Loyalty Pledge to keep indies out.

The game is Monday the day before New Hampshire. I think Edwards will be hurt badly in Iowa and that will narrow it to two.

I agree with your analysis that if she gets slapped both in IA and NH she could be hurt. However, as I waded through the link connected above ot looked to me like she will pick up as the others fall.

MonkeyA “closed” primary or caucus usually means that you have to make up your mind, and declare, just prior to voting.

You can’t vote in BOTH, but you can wait until the day of the election or caucus to declare a party.

Did I read that right about hillary being the most trusted among Democrats, because Every poll I have seen that Hillary has a very bad trust issue among candidates? and also a very big unlikable issue among voters as well.

I am a Democrat and I don’t trust her at all. I don’t believe anything she says and I think that her and her husband just want to gain power back to enrich themselves even more than they have already. Although I am supporting Obama, I am not of the opinion that he will win because the power, money and name of Clinton will certainly carry the day. And I will vote for her next November and hope for the best because, while I don’t think for one second she will do anything for the working people, I do not think she will do any further harm either which a Republican will certainly do. God forbid another 4 years of Republicans. Hillary will just be a seat warmer if anything. She will keep Wall Street happy. But at the end of her first 4 years, we still will have done nothing on health care and we will still have troops in Iraq.

The Republicans do not have a “conservative” in the race. They have a bunch of pretender neo cons (oh well I was wrong on abortion and gays before!) that will say anything to get a vote. These Republicans are a sorry ass lot of pitiful old men. They make Bob Dole look good! Secondly Morris is a big mouth who gets paid to spout off things he knows nothing about. Didn’t he say there was a 100% certainty that Dr Rice would be a GOP candidate?

Ron Paul is a true conservative. With classic liberalism views. He’s a Libertarian, but his views lean more to the right. If Ron Pauls campaign picks up the pace and gains more support I’ll definitly be voting for him, my next choices would be either Obama, or Edwards. I’d pick Kucinich over Obama or Edwards but I don’t think he has a shot, plus he a little on the goofy side, he’d make a decent prez though. If Ron Paul ran for vice prez under kucinch, obama, or edwards, I’d vote for one of those tandams, or vice versa if one of the 3 dems running for vice under Ron Paul.

Just an observation. There are many liberals on the WEBLOG. The Editors are all liberal.

Today there were posts about:RepublicansReligionCops Tasers

And one lonely post about the TWO LEADING DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES.

And liberals could care less. What does this tell us?

    1. The WEblog wants numbers so posting about conservatives and their agenda always gets the liberal bee hive buzzing.

    2. Liberals really could care less about who their party will nominate to be the next POTUS.

    3. Liberals are too afraid to cast judgement or have an independent opinion about demoratic candidates. Scared to post.

    4. Liberals koolaid does not provide the information required for liberal demorats to evaluate their own candidates.

    Which is it?

    It really is puzzling.

Pat, the Dem nominee is already Clinton.

There’s nuthin for the Dems to talk about.

The Dems have just one agenda item:

We Hate Bush – Beat Bush – Vote for Hillary!

    Here’s Hillary’s website agenda(?):

I do not care who the Dem nominee is as long as it is not Obama or Richardson.

Obama is too nice. I don’t want nice.

I want a Dem who will kick Republicans in the teeth.

Richardson is too business friendly. I want a worker friendly President, not another corporate enabler.

    Are you kidding Capn?

    I love a powerful woman!

Nothin like a bright and beautiful package. But that isn’t Hillary.

    I don’t support Hillary because:

    1. She will expand government creating new Socialist programs, when we can’t afford the programs we have now.

    2. She is weak or strong on national defense, depending on the day.

    3. She is for illegal immigration or against it, depending on the day.

    4. She is for banning guns.

    5. She is for higher taxes.

Why should I vote for her?

I WANT a repeal of the repeal of the capital gains tax! People SHOULD be taxed when they make money on money they already have but do not earn.

I 100% agree. It is dumb and stupid when you think that somebody like Paris Hilton can inherit a massive stock fund, live off the capital gains and dividends and only pay 11% while working people pay 20 to 33%.

“”"4. She is for banning guns.”"”

That is a lie. She is not for banning guns or for banning the rights of citizens to have CCW and guns. She is for banning things like AK-47s and M-16s. And most Americans agree that people should not be carrying around Tec-9s on the street. I am an NRA member and even I agree with that. And the first time some depressed kid buys an AK-47 and goes to Towne East and kills a couple dozen Wichitans, views there will change on it too- just as they are changing in Omaha. And the first time some terrorist wannabe walks into a gun store and buys a 50 caliber rifle and uses it to bring an airliner down on takeoff or shoots up a tank farm causing a huge explosion and fire that kills dozens or hundreds of people, views will change. Nobody needs to have an M-16, Tec 9, 50 caliber or Ak-47 for protection. I understand the fear on the part of the NRA that, if we allow the gun grabbers to get their toe in the door, they will not stop until we have taken away all guns from everybody except the cops and the predators. And I agree that is the goal of the gun grabbers. But that does not mean we cannot have reasonable laws on who can carry guns and what kind of guns are sold.

If Obama wins the nomination, it will only prove that bigotry sells. In BOTH parties.

I wonder if Obama, with his “tolerance” and all, will invite members of the KKK to MC a concert and give them a half hour to spout their bigotry?

I mean, since he is so into diversity and tolerance and all.

Jesus WEPT. Yes, please make the presidential race between romney and obama. We’ll SEE which religion is most bigoted.
