No President Petraeus

PetraeusWhen American generals have success in war, somebody inevitably asks whether they want to try politics. But Army Gen. David Petraeus showed zero interest in going the way of Dwight Eisenhower, Ulysses S. Grant and George Washington in a “Fox News Sunday” interview. “I have great respect for those who do choose to serve our country in that way. I’ve chosen to serve our country in uniform,” Petraeus said from Baghdad. He went so far as to refer to Gen. William Sherman’s famous telegram to the 1884 GOP convention: “I will not accept if nominated, and I will not serve if elected.”

    Eisenhouer had not only helped win the war but he had also been instrumental in winning the peace afterwards. Then, after that, he added additional experience between 1945 and 1952. This is something that Patreus would need to do before he should be seriously considered for president.

    Colin Powell had been an earlier ‘hoped-for’; he has faded into nothingness.

    What a ‘non news’ story.

    What’s next? Senator Webb of Virginia deciding that going into Professional Wrestling wasn’t one of his options?

    At this point, my nominees are:

    For President: RUDOLPH GIULIANI;

    For Vice-Pres: ROBERT GATES.

    I suspect Rudy’s motto would be:

    I WILL CHEERFULLY AND GLADLY ACCEPT IF NOMINATED;
    I WILL AGGRESSIVELY SERVE IF ELECTED.

    Rudy has more accomplishments than all of the other so-called candidates put together.

    Of course, Robert Gates is a Wichita favorite son, having graduated from Wichita’s East High School in 1961. An Eagle Scout. I believe his brother was principal of Southeast High at one time. Robert Gates was in the CIA for a number of years and has turned down better appointments than most of the current presidential candidates have held.

    It is good when a man knows his limitations.

    Too bad bush wasn’t so introspective.

    Rudy’s big accomplishment, he was mayor when 9/11 happened.

    And Rudy can work the words nine eleven into any sentence. What a doofus! We’ve got one of those types as president now, surely don’t need another. Our country may not survive!

    Rudy did a lot for NYC before 9/11, but the way he has used 9/11 as a slogan for his campaign really turned my support for him off. Another canidate trying to wash the masses with extremly simplistic thinking, I guess in his eyes Americans aren’t very smart.

    No running for President is probably the first successful accomplishment Petraeus has made.
