Kids should not learn about sex from Spears

Spearsjamie You may not have thought twice about the pregnancy of Jamie Lynn Spears, but a lot of 9-year-olds have. The 16-year-old Nickelodeon star (and Britney’s little sister) is the latest teen star to teach kids about sexuality. As these teen stars wade through a swamp of rumors, nude photos and embarrassment, they drag their young audience along.
Parents would be wise to take the time to temper that influence with guidance. It may be too early to give 7-year-olds "the talk," but it’s never too early to lend some solid perspective to their world.
If parents need advice on talking to their kids, they won’t be able to refer to the new parenting book by Spears’ mother, thank goodness. The publisher has delayed it indefinitely.

Who’s the dumbass publisher who thought a parenting book by Britney’s mom was a good idea? I agree with Doug why the hell should I care MSM is way too involved in the private lives of celebrities. Shell probably lose her Nickelodeon show because she got pregnant, she could have kept it private had her mom consent to an abortion and not lose her show/career, that’s a sad and interesting conundrum

This is a perfect example for why we need the government to mandate birth control pills and condoms be issued to all 10 year olds with or with out parental consent.

It takes a federal governments intrusion (village) to raise a child.

Comment frail as JR said the response legality can’t amount to physical violence.

Could have legality to pull your gun on him after the comment feeling family member is threatened. That might be in your right.

The girl in Hollywood makeup doesn’t look 16. Before the story broke I didn’t know she existed. Seeing more “news” on Britney and her sister, the girl is tiny and looks very young naturally.

The guy got her preg is an idiot. They will struggle in their 20’s if they marry, if left to fend for themselves in Louisiana.

She gets the $1 Million reportedly when press gets first pictures of the baby. More if she sold the video in that birthing room. The way press is today, they would pay big money for that. If Britney is in there, look out, $10 Million for that.

    Maybe the guy is smart!

Having this baby for that girl could be a gold mine in publicity money. She wouldn’t need to work for a dumb TV show on Nick.

Since its a national news story, the whole thing is obscene.

She knew better and became a self indulgence person that can manipulate the media.

That’s what she learned from Britney. It’s “news” if those girls drive around to McDonalds.

I forgot what exactly was being debated after reading the posted comments.

Oh yes, the loose Spears sisters. It used to be that 16 year olds used got married and pregnant a long time ago. Now, 20-30 year olds get married and pregnant. My dad was a tennager and my mother was an adult and they weren’t married when I was born. Everything worked out okay. But, Idon’t recommend it.

Jamie Spears is out of the norm since she is 16, unmarried, famous, and pregnant. I wouldn’t waste my money on their mother’s book. She sure does a good job promoting her daughters, but, she doesn’t teach them how to think about the consequences of their actions. They are making themselves look like dumb artificial blondes. Did success make them this stupid, or, were they always that way.

All I see here are “man” comments. From my point of view (a woman) who is a grandmother raising a 13 yo who looks 16 yo, this is scarey. Although my gd is not a fan of Spears, she merely shrugged her shoulders when she saw this on TV. Now THAT’S scarey to me. Her attitude, “no big deal.” Kids get blasted from all sides with sex, sex, sex – celebrity and clothing, blogs, myspace, facebook, tv, movies, videos, music, etc. Listen to the words of some of the songs out there.

In this case, right….this baby will want for nothing, but take another 16 yo where the “daddy” is disinterested, has moved on to another girl, doesn’t pay child support or at least sparingly (yes, I see this happen), the 16 yo is in a tough spot. Only the most ambitious, positive and determined rise above this to continue on through school, college, etc.

I’m not sure that kids 12, 13 and older really “care” if she got pregnant or not. It is definitely the younger, more impressive that are paying attention and whether or not they ask them verbally, they are thinking and yes, it should be addressed.

Personally, I don’t think she looks 16…..being around kids this age all the time. Some look older than their age, some younger. What difference does it make what age she looks?! She’s just a kid for crying out loud. And her mom can trash her book…..I understand it is a Christian or motivational publishing company of some kind she was working with. What a crock. Some times the things we want and go after get out of control. And in the case of Mom Spears who has two notorious dd’s….I’m sure she didn’t intend for either to end up like this. Which proves alsos that money isn’t everything. But I hardly think she’s anyone to hand out advice…unless she just has a “story” to tell.

JR….I’m sure you’re not the first man who has looked at a 16 yo and thought “she’s hot.” And? Men like you scare me sometimes. Your comment might be an innocent observation as a “man” but there are men out there who would take it further for a relationship. Happens all the time. Are you one of those? Just asking.

You know, this conversation really p’s me off. Here the so called pro lifers are talking about what a slut this girl is. She was with her boyfriend, and it is NOT that uncommon for a 16 year old to have sex, let alone become pregnant. It is sad. She’s going to have a hard time. And yes, she might lose her career which may have been the point of her getting pregnant in teh first place, or it was just an honest mistake and now she’ll be punished for choosing to NOT have an abortion.

Girls who have sex are not sluts. It is best to wait, but she obviously chose not to. Amazing considering hormones are highest at this point in life to be abstinent. I know, God made it that way to test you or some crazy fundy thought.

And it isn’t fair to judge this girl on her sister’s actions or her mother’s actions. She deserves to be respected, even if she made a mistake. you’re all disgusting.

I don’t see what the big deal is. Except the fact that shes an idol to a few young girls. She may not be setting a good example but its not horrible, leave it up to the hypocritical media to blow things out of proportion. This soceity is a little messed up, people are screaming that the boyfriend is guilty of robbing the cradle. What the hell is the deal, she’s 16, and he’s 19, its only a three year difference. If you compare a couple where the girl is 23 and the guy is 26, nobody would think twice about their ages. Can’t beleive goverment has a monopoly of laws on sex. It’s obviously skewing peoples perception of whats right and wrong. In my opinion when a person hits 16 they should be able to drive, consent to sex, vote, join the military, drop out of school, rent a car, and buy cigarettes or alcohol, not that I’m condoning any of these things, I just think the age laws need to be simplified. We’re people, not food items with expiration dates, or harvested cows waiting a certain age to be sexed. I just feel that there needs to be one age set, either 16 or 18 where people are considered an adult, and they are open to all the responsibilities of society as well as the adult repercussions.

It’s alright to think such things. I think it’s appropriate when seeing an attractive, sexually mature creature of the opposite sex to think “damn!”, but one should limit the length of such thoughts to mere interior comments with quotations and exclaimation points. You can call me a dirty old man because I am one.

  44. Door King

Again, the average age of beginning sexual activity is 15.8. It was the same at the time of the revolutionary war, it was the same at the time of the civil war, and it is the same now. It’s the same or earlier for all humanity in every country. And I will point out to you marriage is irrelevant to the average age of beginning sexual behavior, and that the only exceptions are in those places where sexes are kept separate, and it doesn’t work all the time there. It’s biology, and biology trumps b.s. We need policies that address realities, rather than policies addressing mythical “ideal” behaviors that have never existed, and can’t exist as long as humans are human.

I was 17 and my husband was 21 when we met. We got married when I was 18, a lot of kids did that..I think we were more mature than 18 yr olds today. I can’t imagine my granddaughter getting married at that age. We were just older emotionally and ready to take on the responsibility…bought our first house when I was 19. That would seem weird today for a kid that age to buy a house and start a family, but that’s what we did. We just grew up faster in the “old days” I guess…so many guys went to Vietnam and they seemed like men, but when I look back they were just boys…but that all seems so surreal now.

Mary,My grandmother got married at the age of 15 (my grandfather was 20). The difference is that today a kid needs to know so much more than they did then to get along in the world. I look at my granddaughters, who are 19 and 20, and they know so much more than my grandmother did, but they are so much less prepared for today’s world than my grandmother was for hers.
