America isn’t the only country dealing with immigration concerns. The World Bank recently discovered a trend of developing countries seeing higher rates of immigrants from even poorer countries.
The bank found that some 74 million migrants move from countries of extreme poverty to countries just slightly better off economically in hopes of providing for their families, sending back a collective $18 billion to $55 billion a year.
“South-to-south migration is not only huge, it reaches a different class of people,†said Patricia Weiss Fagen, a Georgetown University researcher. “These are very, very poor people sending money to even poorer people, and they often reach very rural areas where most remittances don’t go.â€

You can expect this kind of thing to happen when there is hardly a place in the world that it doesn’t take money to survive. As prominent as the wealthy is the poor will stand out just as much and slavery rears its ugly head and speaks out about man’s true nature.
As long as we allow employers to employ ILLEGAL ALIENS, who work for less this will continue. We must stop the JOb and SOCIAL MAGNETS which draw these people. They are hard working people who have become MODERN DAY SLAVE LABOR for businesses who hire them.
The reason it takes money for the poor to survive is that rich people have all the land. Thus, their traditional method of earning a living has been totally usurped. It’s a problem all over Spanish speaking America.
The problem that the World Bank report does not address is the reasons why a country would want immigration. Great Britain is an excellent example of the wrong reason and the effects of it.The greatest complain and what the Moslems are saying is the reason there is a home ground threat of terrorism from the Al-Qaeda like cells there. Is that they are treated like second class citizens, they are there to do the manual labor and the jobs that are less desired for the country. But are not seen as being of any real value as a citizen of G.B. As RS stated, they are used as paid slave labor but not thought of as actual citizens. They are not assimilated into the culture but forced to stand outside of it and watch. It is one thing for those of a different culture to be allowed to hold onto their old culture and practices. That is why Al-Qaeda has hard time recruiting in the U.S. We have a long tradition of accepting others and that was how the nation grew. Even our own problem with the illegal Aliens is not because they are a different culture it is because of their violating the law. Few among us do not like a good Mexican meal, one of the best restaurants here is a true Mexican food place. The law is blind or it should be, the color of ones skin is not the issue.
Even now the debate is not a simply one as the issues of human rights is a major point of contention.
But because we are having a debate over such a serious issue as immigration here. It makes us have less a threat from terrorism. Just imagine if Al-Qaeda had grown out of Mexico? I am all for legal immigration, those that come here for the prospects of freedom and a better life gives them a common shared goal and makes them better citizens with a vested interest in this country. There are Americans not just someone who happens to work here.
writerdog:Well posted, I would like to add that the New World countries who were popluted with immigration (US, Canada, Autralia) have a more diverse mix of cultures whereas the UK/Europe has an overwhelming percent of Moslems as immigrants and being such homogenious societies, assimilation is almost next to impossible. An oriental can become a member and working citizen fully accepted of the newer societies where in say Finland, he and his decendants will always be Oriental. Europe has a history of shipping people out, not taking them in and they don’t know how to integrate or accomodate other than handouts only making things worse in the long run.
Some corporations like McDonalds and Coca-cola cause water pollution, water shortages and deforestation in third world countries, we might be speeding up the mass exodus of illegals migrating to developed countries from the problems major companies are causing.
I love Mexican food, we actually fajitas for christmas dinner instead of the traditional ham like we have every other year. Theres a good hole in the wall Mexican resturant on North Broadway, that serves real Mexican food, forgot what the name was though.
People are looking for a better life for themselves, whether for economic reasons, or due to political oppression where they live, or both. We need a sane policy that protects our borders, while welcoming those immigrants who accept our values and can contribute to our economy.
People move to where work is. This has been going on since the days of gold rushes. If people can imporve their lives where they are then they would but if they cannot they move to where they can- which is why I do not live in Kansas anymore. If I could have got into a decent job in my field there, I would still be there. Immigrants are no different.

Political “oppression” is why overblown as a reason to migrate. People who are doing well economically in politically oppressive countries (China) do not usually try to flee to other countries. A small amount of such people might leave for religious reasons but overall, if nation is doing well economically, the people could care less about political oppression. They might come to you and SAY that is why they left but honestly- how many Cubans flee Cuba and go to Mexico, Jamaica or Hati to escape “political oppression” in Cuba?
Look how Mexico handles its SOUTHERN border, and how Mexico treats non-Mexicans:
