The Seattle Post-Intelligencer scribe who passed along Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ poor attempt at wine wit followed up with another column reflecting on “how even a joke told in a far-away state can spark controversy.†Joel Connelly suggested people avoid greeting Sebelius with “Salut!†for the near future and that she eat some crow or study up at a Walla Walla wine school. Connelly also recounted a story about Sebelius’ father, former Ohio Gov. John Gilligan: “Gilligan visited the Ohio State Fair and was offered the opportunity to shear sheep. ‘I shear taxpayers, not sheep,’ he quipped. The joke helped make him a one-term governor.†Lucky for Sebelius, she already has a second and final term in the bag.

What kind of wine goes with crow?
Does one use a straw drinking Kansas wine?
Does Kansas wine come in cardboard containers?
Does grape crushing in Kansas involve “feet” or is it mechanical process utilizing large wooden oars?
She shouldn’t joke about anything in Kansas. We are the laughing stock of the country without any help from her.
Having spent time at three Kansas wineries, I can attest to the fact that we have some very good local wines. I also know they are hard working people who put their heart into their business. Their very livelyhood depends upon selling their wines.
They also are hampered by laws which prevent them from selling their wines across state lines, something other states allow. Additionally, my wife had wine mailed from abroad to friends in next door states, because they cannot be shipped into Kansas. Here again, we hurt our own locals with our old fashion laws.
Not funny at all Gov..
I am told that Kansas has some excellent wines. There is no reason we are not promoting them more. A good start would be for local entities to serve them at public functions.
Nothing like sharing a bottle with the Mrs, listening to Jazz music watching the sun set over a Kansas vineyard:

The grape doesn’t fall far from the vine.
So her daddy was a truthful politician.
Now we’re attacking politicians for being honest? Just because she’s Governor doesn’t mean she’s required to sell crap!
She probably did more to draw attention to Kansas wine than anybody in recent history. Bet alot of people weren’t even aware that Kansas has wineries. But now they should follow up with allowing sales across state lines.
Most of the anti-Sebelius rants are coming from people who’ve only purchased wine in a box.
I prefer troekenbeerenauslese from the Mosel region or perhaps some demi-sec from the Bordeaux region.

Another scientifically proven post by the Monkey. I won’t bother asking for a link to a source. You’d defend your girl even if it ruined business in Kansas.
