Republicans support impeachment of Cheney?

CheneyIn more up-is-down news: House Republicans voted Tuesday to keep alive an effort to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. The GOP voted for the measure, of course, because they think it could help them by making the Democratic-led Congress appear extreme. But there won’t be any impeachment, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders don’t want to waste time on a futile effort and give the GOP an issue to energize its demoralized base.

Ah, this is great news! Mother Speaker has charted a new course, to wit:

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders don’t want to waste time on a futile effort…”

I wonder what brought about the change of heart, and when we’ll be able to see some fruit from it.

This is a calculated move to distance the Republican party from any shady deeds Cheney did.

There must be something in the DC air about Cheney’s involvment in things he should not have been involved in.

    Phillip,

If you actually followed the voting, which I did, you would have seen that it was the Democrats who were trying to be coy with the voting.

The GOP did the last minute vote change in support of the impeachment to catch the Democrats off guard at their own game.

The fact that you are running this story the way you are is very telling of your bias.

There were about 80 Democrats who were trying to play oppurtunist with the vote in supporting the impeachment so they could be on record as doing such but then table the bill.

The GOP switched their votes to bring the bill to the floor for debate so those Democrats couldn’t get away with their political scheme.

And now you are running the story as if the Republicans are trying to play politics?

The Republicans merely out smarted the Democrats at their own silly political game.

Remember they were the ones who were trying to bring this to the floor, support it, then table it.

Could you at least pretend to act a little bit unbiased when you post stuff to the blog?

How important is it to prevent Iran from getting the A-bomb? Should America try to stop Iran, and to what extent? Do we go to war with Iran to stop this?

Ahmadinejad Announces Iran Uranium Enrichment MilestoneWednesday, November 07, 2007

BIRJAND, Iran (AP) — Iran has achieved a landmark, with 3,000 centrifuges fully working in its controversial uranium enrichment program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Wednesday.

“We have now reached 3,000 machines,” Ahmadinejad told thousands of Iranians gathered in Birjand, in eastern Iran, in a show of defiance of international demands to halt the program believed to be masking the country’s nuclear arms efforts.

Ahmadinejad has in the past claimed that Iran succeeded in installing the 3,000 centrifuges at its uranium enrichment facility at Natanz. But Wednesday’s claim was his first official statement that the plant is now operating all those centrifuges.

When Iran first announced launching the 3,000 centrifuges in April, the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, the International Atomic Energy Agency, said Tehran had only 328 centrifuges up and running at Natanz’s underground facility.

In a recent report, drawn up by IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei, the agency put the number of centrifuges working in Natanz at close to 2,000, with another 650 being tested.

U.S. experts say 3,000 centrifuges are in theory enough to produce a nuclear weapon, perhaps as soon as within a year.

Iran says it plans to expand its enrichment program to up to 54,000 centrifuges at Natanz in central Iran — which would amount to the level of industrial-scale uranium enrichment.

Two rounds of U.N. Security Council sanctions have failed to persuade Iran to halt the enrichment.

Interesting question Max. However, that suggests a couple more: is enrichment (which is required fir Wolf Creek) automatically bombs? And do we support other proliferation of nuclear arms to other states in the region?

Back to the topic of impeaching cheney. This thread would be hilarious if not so telling. The self-proclaimed Republicans are saying IOKIYAR! No tricks or “coyness,” or attempts to catch someone off guard is acceptable UNLESS you’re a Republican. And, acting as if impeachment wasn’t always off the table. And, then expecting people to believe what they say! No wonder their leader can fool them so easily.

  23. Ben
    Posted November 7, 2007 at 2:24 pm | Permalink

Not really derived; just enriched. In other words, with the centrifuges (or gaseous diffusion) we make a Uranium that has a higher % of 235 and split out depleted Uranium with lower 235 than mine-mix.

My nuclear power scenario would involve taking weapons grade material (even more enriched) and back-mixing with depleted to lower the enrichment level to fuel-grade.

“WASHINGTON — House Democrats on Tuesday narrowly managed to avert a bruising debate on a proposal to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney after Republicans, in a surprise maneuver, voted in favor of taking up the measure.

Republicans, changing course midway through a vote, tried to force Democrats into a debate on the resolution sponsored by long-shot presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich.

The anti-war Ohio Democrat’s resolution accuses Cheney of purposely leading the country into war against Iraq.

The GOP tactics reversed what had been expected to be an overwhelming vote to table, or kill, the resolution.

Midway through the vote, with instructions from the GOP leadership, Republicans one by one changed their votes from yes — to kill the resolution — to no, trying to force the chamber into a debate and an up-or-down vote on the proposal.

The Houston-area delegation split, with Republicans John Culberson of Houston, Michael McCaul of Austin and Ted Poe of Humble heeding the request to keep the motion alive to embarrass the Democrats.

GOP Reps. Kevin Brady of The Woodlands and Ron Paul of Lake Jackson voted to kill the measure, as did Democrat Nick Lampson of Stafford. Houston Democrats Al Green, Gene Green and Sheila Jackson-Lee all voted to keep the impeachment resolution alive.”

Ben I had to look it up for you. He really isn’t on my radar screen. He reminds me to much of Perot.

“Your man Dennis the UFO sighter.”

Oh, give me a break. Is that the best you got?****************************Kucinich answered the question as honestly as he could, while neither confirming nor denying MacLaine’s new age flourishes. “It was an unidentified flying object, okay,” he said. “It’s like – it’s unidentified. I saw something.” He made a joke about moving his campaign headquarters to Roswell, New Mexico, and another about more people having seen a UFO than approve of George Bush’s presidency. And that was that.

Except that it wasn’t. Indeed, to judge by the coverage – as intense as any he has received in two presidential campaigns – you would think Kucinich had talked about being kidnapped by little green Martians and brainwashed by their maximum leader.”

This whole grandstanding by both parties is about as stupid as it gets.

In the first place, impeaching an elected official should be the last thing congress looks at. It is not something to be taken lightly. There had better be more than, “He lied to the American people.” Name me one elected official who hasn’t.People who live in glass houses, etc. Kinda like a certain individual caught in a bathroom sting.

The smoking gun better have had some really bad ammo in it.

Second. Don’t we have a war going on? Is impeaching Cheney going to end that any sooner? If you think it will, I got a really great bridge I’ll sell you.

We have one year to turn things around, prior to getting rid of this administration, and impeaching either Bush or Cheney will do absolutely nada to help the situation. In fact, it would turn this country on it’s side with partisanship on steroids.

I can only hope congress ain’t that stupid. Good grief, their ratings are lower than whale s**t. This would put them in the realm of negative numbers, and we really don’t need that. Can this crap, and get to work correcting the problems we got now. Like Americans dying in a stupid war.

According to a Banyar staff member who call CSPAN during this show, Nathan was just parroting the party line. That was exacting the Minority leader’s thinking, now to me it would have been funny if they had managed to get the VP impeached! Can you just image the scene in the Oval office when Banyar and the President were alone?

Of course I had to also laugh when Pelosi said she that it would take a lot of time that could be used to be productive. I watch CSPAN a lot, what they would not have the time to pass more meaningless Resolutions? “What do you mean we are being a do-nothing Congress? We recognized the women’s basketball team of left-east- middle Lucsonville!”. Rome is burning and they are arguing over whether to roast hot dogs or marshmallows?
A commentator last night made the statement to impeach the vice President would do no good. The VP is nothing more then window dressing, he has no power and has no input into policy decision making. “Commentator meet Dick Cheney, the dark lord of chaos and the fomenter of truly Un-American thinking. The following is from a letter sent to constituents today by Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, where the matter has been sent again.

And he is too stupid to even look back at his insane posts. No logic. No thought. No opinions. Just slinging mud at anyone who will play.

    What do you know?

It is JR over here causing trouble or adding to it.

We all know that Apophis is a trouble maker.

The only posts Apophis made here were personal attacks and added nothing to the discussion.

Here is JR to Apophis rescue!

JR, when are you going to start living up to your own expectations for people around here?

Nathan I told you to climb off. dtc had no posts of relevance here. I looked. He only showed up to attack Apophis. Just like Pat only showed up because she stalks me.

Look at test results before writing off the private schools. Much better education.

    Uh huh,

I’d have to get to know ya better dtc.

Teachers have a hard and largely thankless job. They don’t deserve to get bagged on.

Just today I answered an email from my kids teacher. You’d have thought I’d awarded her the Nobel prize she was so happy. Parental interest not something she seems familiar with.

I e-mail my kids teachers all the time. They do a great job and I agree mostly thankless. However, in goverment schools you will have communists like Apophis. I haven’t seen any bad apples in private schools.

    Pat,

Today he reminded all of us to look for the space craft re-entering (is that a word? I’m sure J R said it better than I am!) around noonish. I wasn’t aware and thought that was a GREAT reminder. Other than that ONE which you said couldn’t be found I’ve found he has interesting, thoughtful, compassionate thoughts on many of today’s issues.

I’d vote for anyone who had the right answers. Is someone like that running? Aren’t ALL the candidates bought and paid for? The only thing left for us to vote for are the judges the one we elect will appoint. I, personally, can’t agree with what the Republican Party has become. Therefore, I will carefully consider the kinds of judges that may be appointed and probably vote for Democratic philosophies and policies.

O.K. Linda, you about made me puke with that last line about, “interesting, thoughtful, compassionate thoughts”. And I almost just logged off in disgust, but I will give JM/JR the benefit of doubt on the two posts he made about the Space Shuttle.

JR/JM was here literally all day long and late last night. It must be on welfare because I have to work and cannot log so frequently.

But, please give me time to figure out how to pay up yet allow both of us to remain incognito, to protect us.

I’m thinking I could send you something via Phil Brownlee, orperhaps you could name the localeating establishment and I send something there in your NIC’s name?
