Politics on my mind

BrainA new study tested the effects of politics on the human brain, the New York Times reported. Among other things, the findings addressed one key factor of this election: gender.
The study noted that when shown photos and video of Hillary Clinton, men were apathetic at first, gradually becoming more interested as they watched. Women had opposite reactions to Clinton with strong initial interest tapering off as the tape rolled. However, women were more likely to build interest toward Rudy Giuliani.
However, emotions toward Clinton were mixed from both genders. Impulses suggested that the brains of fence-sitters seemed torn as to how to respond to her. Those who had indicated a favorable opinion of Clinton responded apathetically to her.

Personally I think that people are already burnt out on the election. I still haven’t wholeheartedly gotten behind a single candidate myself, yet I’m already tired of the rhetoric.

Kerry wasn’t leading out of Iowa as I recall either.

It was the “yeeeeeaaahhh” man who was leading, until he went out in a flame of glorious throat yodeling.

The media needs to stop f*cking trying to coronate Ghouliani and Clinton.

Howard Dean had already lost Iowa before the media seized on “the scream.”

Only in American political reportage could a normal sound a football fan makes when his team scores a touchdown become important to a presidential election.

    Mountain, meet molehill.

“On January 19, 2004, Dean’s campaign suffered a blow when a last-minute surge by rivals John Kerry and John Edwards led to a disappointing third-place defeat for Dean in the 2004 Iowa Democratic caucuses, representing the first votes cast in primary season. Dean had been a strong contender for weeks in advance in that state, battling with Dick Gephardt for first place in the polls. To the surprise of the Dean and Gephardt campaigns, Dean finished third in Iowa behind Kerry and John Edwards, with Gephardt finishing fourth.

Since Dean had spent months leading Iowa tracking polls, his third-place finish was widely considered a sign that the campaign was losing momentum.”wikepedia

Hmmm, months leading Iowa tracking polls as I inferred.

This is a response from real neuroscientists about the ridiculous opinion piece that prompted this thread.

The whole Howard Dean ’scream’ was such crap. Once they played the actual footage with the background noise, he didn’t sound nearly as psychotic. And just think where we would probably be now if he had been elected….a TON better off than we are today.

When I think of Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani I think of being lowered slowly into a vat of acid and being roasted over a low flame. Which is which? does it matter?

    political_mom,

Yeah. Howard Dean was so “insane” and “unhinged” that his 50-state strategy resulted in Democrats taking back both houses of Congress in 2006.

DC and the beltway media functions as an organism that protects its own. And, it so happens, its “own” generally tends to be status-quo, “centrist” Republicans. “Liberal media” my ass.

Yeah, CF and P-Mom,I saw Dean on the Dem debate night, he was smiling like a Cheshire Cat. He has insisted upon making Democratic plans for every state and NOT conceding a single inch to Republicons. He’s a good man.
