US reports ‘phenomenal’ drop in Iraq violence
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/ca653412-97b4-11dc-9e08-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1
“Violence in Iraq has fallen at a rate that has surprised military commanders and even one of the architects of the “surge” that boosted US troop numbers in the country this year, according to figures gathered by the US.
The figures show the numbers of suicide attacks, roadside bombings, mortar and other attacks on US forces and on the Iraqi population have more than halved since 30,000 extra troops in June.”
I know, I know…
It is not bad news so why report it…
Nathan,
There was another story about Sunni’s attacking Al Qaeda a couple of days ago. That didn’t get much press either.
It shows the true bias slant of the MSM when they fail to give broad coverage of good news from Iraq and only report the bad news or scandal.
Even though I disagree with the war I for one welcome any news that means fewer people are dying over there.
A rather delicate issue in the immigration. Are we to deport all illegals, regardless; or, we sort them first according to benefit to the community and the country?

Interesting political group, however I dont think they have a chance. Good idea though

“Nathan” and “Kansas” –
You forget the purpose of “The Surge,” which was to give the Iraqi government breathing room to progress with a political solution to post-war Iraq.
How’s that been coming along?
That fewer Americans are dying in Iraq is good news. That any Americans are dying in Iraq is tragic. That George WMD Bush and the NeoCons are roiling the water to expand the war to Iran is criminal.
Whether you’re for or against the war, the thing we need to remember is, if we lose, it’s a disaster for our country. Nathan and Kansas point out some good news from Iraq and I personally welcome it. It doesn’t excuse how poorly managed this war has been, or our reason for being there.
We need to remember that under Bush leadership, the most powerful military force on the planet hasn’t been able to defeat a rag-tag insurgency almost 5 years and hundreds of billion dollars later.
Exactly why, “XXX,” is it that, “…if we lose, it’s a disaster for our country”?
It’s already a disaster for our country, to my way of thinking. “If we lose,” even if you’re right, it might be a bigger disaster, but exactly what are you talking about, “XXX?”
And what is the measure of “if we win?” Just what is “winning” in Iraq, “XXX?”
“If we lose” seems like an appeal to American pride. So what are the consequences, really, in your opinion?
And what will we have won, exactly, “if we win?”
And just how many American lives and dollars will it take to make “if we win” worthwhile?
Monkey, you can’t stand any good news from Iraq can you?
Why is that?

NewsRecord Early Snow For Austrian Ski Resorts12/11/2007The Austrian ski season is off to a record start, with massive snowfall in Tirol and some of its slopes open already – the earliest ever.
Kitzbühel opened some of its runs last Saturday, six weeks ahead of schedule, and the earliest in its history. Over 130cm of fresh snow has fallen there since last Wednesday, enabling some of the chairlifts to take skiers and boarders up the mountain.
Elsewhere in Austria, it has been snowing heavily since last week. Lech, which is due to open on December 1st, had 180cm of snow over the last days. All glacier resorts are open including Sölden, Hintertux, Stubai (Neustift), Kaprun, Dachstein (Schladming).

And the people of the nation of heroes, tired of video and sound bites speaking of death and spending from the war intruding into the prime time lineup decided that stopping tyrants and saving the world wasn’t worth it anymore.
They became civilized. They ceased to be a country of heroes. And the tyrants rejoiced.

All Change as Alps Beat Rockies For November SnowPublished by skirebel on November 21, 2007 in News, Ski Europe and Ski North America.
The European Alps are currently enjoying consistent snowfalls and in most cases healthy pre-season/early-season snow depths of up to 180cm/six-feet as November 2007 proves to be much better than “Warmest ever” November 2006 in the main European Alpine resorts.
“Forget the hype, let’s deal with the facts: It is currently bucketing it down in the Alps. There are reports of mid-winter like conditions and some resorts are even opening early. Lech has a base of 180cms already and in many resorts including Verbier, Tignes and Kitzbühel there is snow all the way to resort level.” said a Ski Club of Great Britain statement.
By contrast the Colorado Rockies are generally not seeing as good a November as they did in 2006, precursor to a 2006-7 season of media reports of poor snow in Europe heralding the beginning of the end due to global warming; whilst the Rockies were apparently unaffected by this ‘global’ phenomenon and were always the place to be for great snow.
This November temperatures have been low enough for snowmaking in some ski areas, but currently not in others, with limited natural snowfall due to dry weather conditions. Overall temperatures in the state for November so far were described as “warmer than average” by the US National Weather Service.
Seven Colorado resorts are now open, with Arapahoe Basin and Loveland on the high Continental Divide already in to their second month of the 2007-8 season. Keystone opened a week early after healthy snowfalls in October and now has an 18 inch (45cm) base. Winter Park has just opened on a 14 inch base. Crested Butte and Vail are also amongst those opening this week. However Eldora mountain, one of the state’s smaller resorts, has opted to postpone its planned opening tomorrow, Friday 16th November, in the hope of either natural snow fall or cold enough weather to make snow. It now plans to open for Thanksgiving.

Great news about the surge (ie proper military action such as that urged by General Shensheki (sp?) many years ago) actually bringing down the level of violence.
Now that the violence is down to acceptable levels, and since what is really needed in this hour is training in political discourse and government, I say we load up most of the 535 haunting Congress (all who voted to allow this nation building exercise to go forward) and many from the Exec Branch (all the neo-cons) and drop them into Baghdad to finish the operation. Once a viable government is formed, all Americans can then leave together, Mission Accomplished!
Global Cooling in France Too!
French Resort Campaigns on Snow RecordPublished by skirebel on October 29, 2007 in Ski Europe and Ski France.
High altitude Avoriaz in France has launched a publicity campaign highlighting its excellent snow record. The initiative is aimed at countering the initially generalised and then inaccurate media reporting of “No Snow In the Alps” last winter, when most higher resorts actually had plenty.
Although north American resorts commonly highlight their snow record and report every snowfall to media outlets, Europe’s ski areas have traditionally made little reference to snowfall, even when they have huge dumps. Even after all the negative reporting last winter, Courchevel only mentioned a fall of several feet of snow at item number five in its weekly news brief.
Situated between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, Avoriaz benefits from exceptional climate conditions, including a high level of snowfall due to humid air rising from one of Europe’s largest water reserves and hitting the cold barrier of Europe’s highest summit.
Avoriaz is a “snow-bubble” whose success comes from its guaranteed snow-coverage. Over the last 10 years, the average snow coverage per winter has been 8.29 metres.Last winter Avoriaz increased business with 6,29m of snow.

Record early onset of severe winter weather in Austria

Vienna – The coldest winter in large parts of Austria has struck unexpectedly early, with meteorologists talking Sunday of weather conditions that occur in the Alpine republic once every 30 to 50 years. About 150 centimetres of fresh snow fell in the Alps within 48 hours.

Oh for Pete’s sake, Max, we get it, you don’t believe in Global Warming. So stop posting all the BS filler all ready. We don’t need 700 posts of how it is “colder” to prove your stance that Global Warming doesn’t exist…
BTW, the concept of Global Warming does NOT mean that everwhere will get warmer. It means that warming in certain climates is going to affect radical changes, both cold and warm, in other climates… please, at least understand the concept before you start spouting off about it…

n. An increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere, especially a sustained increase sufficient to cause climatic change.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DEFINITION SAYS ONLY “CLIMATIC CHANGE.” THAT WOULD INCLUDE COOLING TEMPERATURES AS WELL AS WARMING TEMPERATURES.—–
And meanwhile the glaciers are quickly melting …whether it’s man made or a natural cycle, global warming IS a reality.
Max still does not know the difference between weather and climate? How about her ass from a hole in the ground?
Distinctions are lost on some people.

Global Warming Alarmism Reaches A ‘Tipping Point’By Sen. James Inhofe, R-OK, 10/26/2007 1:46:05 PMThis is Part One of Three Parts of a speech given October 26, 2007
The American people will soon be asked to support global warming cap-and-trade legislation that will be billed as a “solution” to global warming. These bills come at a time when the science is overwhelmingly taking away the basis for alarm.
An abundance of new peer-reviewed studies, analyses, and data error discoveries in the last several months has prompted scientists to declare that fear of catastrophic man-made global warming “bites the dust” and the scientific underpinnings for alarm are “falling apart.”
I have addressed global warming on the Senate floor more than a dozen times since 2003, and today’s speech will reveal that peer-reviewed studies and scientists are coming over to many of the concerns I raised years ago.
I want to talk to you today for what may be a personally unprecedented two hours or more of time to report on the recent developments which are turning 2007 into a “tipping point” for climate alarmism. I will detail how even committed left-wing scientists now believe the environmental movement has been “co-opted” into promoting global warming as a “crisis’ and I will expose the manufactured façade of “consensus.”
I will also address the economic factors of so-called “solutions” to global warming and how they will have no measurable impact on the climate. But these so called “solutions” will create huge economic harm for American families and the poor residents of the developing world who may see development hindered by unfounded climate fears.
We are currently witnessing an international awakening of scientists who are speaking out in opposition to former Vice President Al Gore, the United Nations, the Hollywood elitists and the media-driven “consensus” on man-made global warming.
We have witnessed Antarctic ice GROW to record levels since satellite monitoring began in the 1970’s. We have witnessed NASA temperature data errors that have made 1934 — not 1998 — the hottest year on record in the U.S. We have seen global averages temperatures flat line since 1998 and the Southern Hemisphere cool in recent years.
These new developments in just the last six months are but a sample of the new information coming out that continues to debunk climate alarm.
But before we delve into these dramatic new scientific developments, it is important to take note of our pop culture propaganda campaign aimed at children.

And with the above definition, you Global Warming errrr, now calling yourselves Climate Change alarmists, can now support your (hidden in the environment)political agenda whether it gets colder or warming.
Perfect alarmists plan.
“The Sky is Falling”
Note, sometimes the sky will be falling, and sometimes it will be rising. But the Sky, it be a Changin! (And Man is causing it!)
Max,
if you want to get in a theoretical argument with cosmos, have at – WHEN COSMOS IS HERE!!! The rest of us don’t want to waste 20 minutes trying to scroll through your postings on a topic that isn’t even being DISCUSSED today!
And MY issue with your postings (please note I never said whether or not I AGREED with global warming, I simply asked you to KNOW what the hell you were talking about first) is that they have no relevance. All your postings show is a significant climate change, which is SUPPORTED by the concept of global warming… but I guess you don’t get that…
And since WHEN does a senator become an educated authority on global warming? You won’t accept Al Gore’s works or statements regarding the matter because he isn’t a scientist – but it’s okay for a REPUBLICAN senator from OK to be a source? Talk about hypocritical…
Anon- Bite me.

Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame Wilson: Where is the outrage? Where is the “contempt and anger?”
This post, written by Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame Wilson, originally appeared on The Huffington Post
“I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious, of traitors.” George Herbert Walker Bush, CIA dedication ceremony, April 26, 1999.
When Bush administration officials I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Karl Rove, Richard Armitage and Ari Fleischer betrayed Valerie Plame Wilson’s identity as a covert CIA operations officer, they fell into the category of “the most insidious of traitors.” Now we learn from the president’s former press secretary, Scott McClellan, that the president himself “was involved” in sending him out to lie to the American public about the betrayal. If his direction to McClellan was deliberate and knowing, then the president was party to a conspiracy by senior administration officials to defraud the public. If that isn’t a high crime and misdemeanor then we don’t know what is. And if the president was merely an unwitting accomplice, then who lied to him? What is he doing to punish the person who misled the president to abuse his office? And why is that person still working in the executive branch? Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald made clear his suspicions about the culprit when he said “a cloud remains over the office of the vice president.” But we may never know exactly what happened because President Bush thwarted justice and guaranteed the success of the cover-up when he commuted Scooter Libby’s felony sentence on four counts of lying, perjury and obstruction of justice.
With the exception of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and the intrepid David Shuster, the mainstream media would have you believe that McClellan’s revelation is old news. “Now back to Aruba and the two-year old disappearance of a blond teenager.” But treason is not old news. The Washington press corps, whose pretension is to report and interpret events objectively, has been compromised in this matter as evidence presented in the courtroom demonstrated. Prominent journalists acted as witting agents of Rove, Libby and Armitage and covered up this serious breach of U.S. national security rather than doing their duty as journalists to report it to the public.
So far there is no apparent desire for redemption driving the press to report on the treachery of senior officials. Instead, the mainstream press has compounded its complicity by giving the Bush administration yet another free pass and shifting blame. The New York Times failed to publish an article on McClellan’s revelation and The Washington Post buried it at the end of a column deep on page A-15 in the newspaper. Earlier in the week, Newsweek magazine, owned by the Washington Post Company, proudly announced the identity of its new star columnist — Karl Rove, one of the key actors in this collective treason. Robert Novak, who willfully disclosed Valerie’s identity, having been twice warned not to do so by the CIA, and who transmitted his column to Rove before it was published, remains a regularly featured columnist in The Washington Post.
With nearly 70 percent of the public now believing that our country is on the wrong track, it is no wonder that many feel let down by major institutions, including the Washington press establishment that increasingly resembles the corrupt Soviet propaganda mill. One reporter from a major news organization even asked whether McClellan’s statement wasn’t just “another Wilson publicity stunt.” Try following this tortuous logic: Dick Cheney runs an operation involving senior White House officials designed to betray the identity of a covert CIA officer and the press responds by trying to prove that the Wilsons are publicity seekers. What ever happened to reporting the news? Welcome to Through the Looking Glass.
Fearful of its access to the powerful, and defensive about its status in the high school social culture that permeates the capital of the Free World, much of the press has forgotten its responsibility to the public and the Constitution.
Presidents and those who aspired to be president in the past once took strong positions in defense of U.S. national security. Today, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has tried to build his support through fronting for the Scooter Libby Defense fundraising efforts. Meanwhile, other Republican candidates accuse Patrick Fitzgerald of being “a runaway prosecutor” and remain silent about the stain on Bush’s presidency.
Where is the outrage? Where is the “contempt and anger?”
Note that Normal is defined as 1971 to 2000.
Amazing, a 3 Billion year-old planet, and we pick 30 years from the 20th Century as the “norm”.
Rapid Recovery from the summer ice melt, is bad news for you Global Warming alarmists.

Current Sea Ice Synopsis
Posted: November 5th, 2007
As of November 1, Environment Canada analysis indicates sea ice over the Northern Hemisphere is recovering rapidly from its spectacular collapse in the summer and, except for the Chukchi Sea and Barents Sea, ice cover is near normal. However, much of the thick multi-year ice in the eastern and even central Arctic Ocean has been lost and is now covered with thin newly formed ice. (Click here to view the change in sea ice area over the past year).
Max–
We don’t argue science with chimpanzees.
Come back when you’ve gained about 50 IQ points.
Thank you.
The Management
Max,
Ever since it has been shown that every where in the scientific literature that co2 lags 800 years behind temperature and not 1:1 correlation, the Global Warming Alarmists have been on the defensive.
For easier words for our local Alarmists, temperature rises first and then about 800 years later co2 goes up.
Which anyone who is not a dunderhead can easily see that co2 does not drive climate change by itself.
The fact that the Southern Hemisphere in the Globe has experienced cooling temperature and the Antarctic has experienced growing ice and colder temperatures is often neglected by the GW Alarmists.
The fact that temperatures from 1940 through 1975 actually fell while co2 slowly climbed up and all of this was in the height of industry where no pollution control was known or even done.
Also, the extreme panic that the GS Alarmists are currently experiencing and they are worried that when the Kyoto Treaty expires in 2012, no one is going to listen to their “force down the throat” b.s. politically driven science.
However, I must compliment them on picking a subject that is hard to challenge and would allow them to control the topic of conversation.
I mean what better to scare people with than the Weather and long term Climate.
They can use the “fake” drown polar bear photo that Gore exploited that had nothing to do with Global Warming to get nature lovers in on the kick.
Or they can re-write temperature history like Michael Mann with his “hockey stick” chart and proclaim the temperatures were higher after 1990 than any time in climate history, which it is not.
Or the GW Alarmists can claim that co2 is higher than anytime in climate history, which is an out and out lie as co2 has been as much as three times higher than it is today.
Or the GW Alarmist can claim the Arctic is melting and we should panic, but they fail to make public that twice this Century before 1950 the Arctic has already melted as the Northwest Passage has been navigated by ship. They didn’t have any “scary” satellite photos to show in the early 1900s and 1940s.
Or the Alarmist can scare people about glaciers melting away, while right underneath the feet of Kansas are huge underground caverns carved out by (wait for it) glaciers.
Environmental protection, pollution control, advanced funding of alternative energies and more consumer activists participating in saving energy – I’m all for that.
What I’m not for is a bunch of lying nuts pushing their politically driven agenda on people so they can control the planet.
The Alarmists know all too well they can scare the pants off of most people with Climate Change as most life spans won’t see any changes to confirm or dispute the end results.
It’s the equivalent of “1984″ where we are going to all be controlled by our minds and technology and there won’t be any choice.
Look how well the Orwellian prediction came out. :)
Kansas, my responses **:
Environmental protection, pollution control, advanced funding of alternative energies and more consumer activists participating in saving energy – I’m all for that.
**I agree. That is the rational approach, and most Libs are surprised that Conservatives are for environmental protection.
What I’m not for is a bunch of lying nuts pushing their politically driven agenda on people so they can control the planet.
**This is EXACTLY the true agenda for the GW nuts.
The Alarmists know all too well they can scare the pants off of most people with Climate Change as most life spans won’t see any changes to confirm or dispute the end results.
**Kansas, some of these GW Nuts have been fooled themselves, and they are truly passionate in their beliefs, even though they themselves are sheep that have been fooled.
It’s the equivalent of “1984″ where we are going to all be controlled by our minds and technology and there won’t be any choice.

**Most on this Blog Kansas, probably have not read 1984. For those who have lived under Communism (and I know a few from Eastern Europe who have)they will tell you that they already lived through 1984 – when Government had complete control.
The Libs are willing to sacrifice Freedom for a Nanny state that promises to meet all their needs through Socialism.
I am not.
The CONs are willing to sacrifice Freedom for a Corporate state that promises to meet all their needs through Capitalism.
I am not.
The Democratic Congress continues to hold “micro-sessions” to prevent Worst. President. Ever.
Don’t say the Dems are just like the Repukes.
Thanks to their diligence, our nation is getting spared more effing idiots like former Ambassador to the UN John Bolton.
CORRECTION: to prevent Worst. President. Ever. from making recess appointments.
The CONs are NOT willing to sacrifice Freedom for any cause.
How’s the Dem Congressional budgets coming along?
2 months over due now.
Oh, and have the Dem’s voted to fund the Iraq war again?
Get back under your supervisors desk max.
Incorrect, Max.
You sacrifice freedom every time you allow your tax dollars to fund private contractors in Iraq, who are not subject to any law or even much accountability for their spending.
You sacrifice freedom every time you allow corporations to manufacture and sell products in the US while off-shoring their “office” for tax purposes to a PO Box in the Cayman Islands.
You sacrifice freedom every time you allow big corporations to flout the law by hiring the closest thing we have to slave labor in this country–illegal immigrants.
You sacrifice freedom every time you let the oil companies write the pollution laws (like Cheney did), every time you let mega-buck health (wealth) care providers dictate what will be paid for whom–i. e., who lives and who dies.
You sacrifice freedom every time you open another nature park and recreation area to big corporate interests to exploit.
Freedom has continually been lost to the Corporatocracy ever since the Reagan years.
Only a strong government is big enough to fight big multinational Corporatocracy.
That’s why the CONs hate government.
Oh, and have the Dem’s voted to fund the Iraq war again?
Posted by: Max |
Why, yes, yes, they have.
But only if Worst. President. Ever. agreed to have all troops out in a year.
Of course, WPE wouldn’t agree to that, so he threatened a veto which the Dems couldn’t possibly over-ride.
Is CapnAmerica just a bigmouthed idiot?

Responses in ** Capn:

**Agree Capn, we need to cut taxes AND cut spending.
You sacrifice freedom every time you allow corporations to manufacture and sell products in the US while off-shoring their “office” for tax purposes to a PO Box in the Cayman Islands.
**Agree, we need a fair tax. Bigger more convulted Government creates IRS rules that are 10 feet high. We need a simple modified flat tax, and Smaller Government.
**Never saw that happen with pollution laws. As for Health Care, I don’t trust Government any more then I do Insurance Companies. I want my DOCTOR deciding what medical treatment I should have. Government is too big and too controlling now. HillaryCare! will make it even more controlling.
You sacrifice freedom every time you open another nature park and recreation area to big corporate interests to exploit.
**If you are talking about ANWAR Capn, how many people actually go there. I’m not losing anything there. Oh, and you have NO solution to energy independence for America. Just conserve our way out. Since you are a non-working man, from your point of view, I can see why you think that way.
Freedom has continually been lost to the Corporatocracy ever since the Reagan years.
**How that?
Only a strong government is big enough to fight big multinational Corporatocracy.
**Why fight them?
That’s why the CONs hate government.
**Cons don’t hate government, we hate Government taking freedom away from people.

And JR, I can see why you can’t find an employer to hire you, or to keep you around as an employee for long.
They make you earn your money, don’t they?
Capn wants a free ride, on MY dime.
No thanks. Earn your own way in life. I don’t owe you anything.
You sacrifice freedom every time you allow big corporations to flout the law by hiring the closest thing we have to slave labor in this country–illegal immigrants. Capn
**Forgot one. On this issue Libs and Cons agree.
Enforce the immigration laws!
Now, the Presidential candidates do NOT agree on this issue.
And yet another thread where CapnAmerica and his trusty side kick JR have nothing to add but personal attacks.
Why don’t you two just leave this blog in peace it would be a better place.
You been known for your share of that too Nathan. Real nice how you even follow people to other blogs to harangue them.
Why don’t you leave?
Uh, Max . . . from what you’ve said so far on these pages, I pay more in taxes than you do.
Not bloody likely that I’m going to get supported on YOUR dime.
However, if you get some horrible disease that you can’t pay for (and who could with our health care system), I will be glad to contribute along with millions of other patriotic Americans to get you the treatment you need.
Unlike you if it were me, we Libs don’t want to just stand by and laugh while you die . . .
Because I have more to offer than insulting comments like telling people to get back under their supervisors desk.
Do you?
Capnamerica,
“YOU” and your liberal friends will contriubte? or will you support a law which forces everyone to?
Do you even understand the difference?

And then comes Nathan to attack ME for ad hominem.
I guess that’s what it means to be a CON– white is black, up is down, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.
At least 20,000 U.S. troops who were not classified as wounded during combat in Iraq and Afghanistan have been found with signs of brain injuries, according to military and veterans records compiled by USA TODAY.
The data, provided by the Army, Navy and Department of Veterans Affairs, show that about five times as many troops sustained brain trauma as the 4,471 officially listed by the Pentagon through Sept. 30. These cases also are not reflected in the Pentagon’s official tally of wounded, which stands at 30,327.
There’s no chance, I’m sure, that “Nathan” was one of those unreported 20,000 troops.
Jr why dont you answer direct questions with a direct answer?
Good one Capn.
Go defend a pit bull Nathan.
You forgot the r captain.
I see the sock puppet ballet is back. James can only contain himself so long. Then his true nature emerges.
And it isnt pretty.
Nathan, arent you the one who is always whining about bloggers who like to blog with their own kind? Yes indeed. I believe you whined about that when you were ignored on Tracy’s blog.
You are just about to get your wish. I see most of the intelligent posters have left the blog. Leaving you and yours to cry in the wildnerness about the latest con whine.
Would you like a little cheese to go with that? French cheese?
Looks like the liberal troll is out to play today.
WASHINGTON — Retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the top commander in Iraq shortly after the fall of Baghdad, said this week he supports Democratic legislation that calls for most troops to come home within a year.
His comments come as welcomed ammunition for the Democratic-controlled Congress in its standoff with the White House on war spending. This month, the House passed a $50 billion bill that would pay for combat operations but sets the goal that combat end by Dec. 15, 2008. The White House threatened to veto the measure, and Senate Republicans blocked it from passing.
I guess General Sanchez is a “liberal troll.”
I think you cons should be out obeying your commander in chief and doing some extreme shopping. Isn’t that how he wants you to fight the terrorists?
I’m guessing that Capn is not fond of posting here on the blog and wants to give up his privilege for posting here.
It seems that Max is unable to understand very simple facts.
* Regional does not = “Global”.
* 2007 has been warm,’Temperature 2007′http://tamino.wordpress.com/2007/11/10/temperature-2007/“So it seems very unlikely that 2007 will break the 2005 record, and similarly unlikely that it will fail to move into 2nd place on both all-time lists.”
* Climate has more factors than only the temperature.
* Warmer air can hold more water vapor, and can produce heavier precipitation events.
* Thin new Arctic sea ice will melt FASTER than thick multi-year ice.

“However, much of the thick multi-year ice in the eastern and even central Arctic Ocean has been lost and is now covered with thin newly formed ice.”
Sen. Inhofe is NOT a credible source: “We have witnessed Antarctic ice GROW to record levels since satellite monitoring began in the 1970’s.”
The ice has grown an INSIGNIFICANT amount, after a much larger amount MELTED before satellite monitoring began.

Antarctic Sea Ice Sets Records in Oct.Written By: James M. TaylorPublished In: Environment NewsPublication Date: December 1, 2007Publisher: The Heartland Institute
________________________________________Antarctic sea ice set a new record in October 2007, as photographs distributed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showed penguins and other cold-weather creatures able to stand farther north on Southern Hemisphere sea ice than has ever been recorded. The news of expanding Antarctic sea ice stole headlines from global warming alarmists who asserted Arctic sea ice had reached its lowest extent since 1979.NASA scientists revealed in an October 4 study that the contracting of Arctic sea ice was due to localized wind patterns. According to a news release accompanying the study, “the rapid decline in winter perennial ice the past two years was caused by unusual winds,” NASA reported.”Unusual atmospheric conditions set up wind patterns that compressed the sea ice, loaded it into the Transpolar Drift Stream and then sped its flow out of the Arctic,” NASA scientist Son Nghiem confirmed in the news release. The record Antarctic sea ice and the revelation that recently shrinking Arctic sea ice is unrelated to global warming should have deflated sensationalist media reports, but global warming mania proved difficult to stop.An October 2 Reuters article typified the alarmist and inaccurate nature of media coverage. “Arctic sea ice declined this year to the lowest levels registered since satellite assessments started in the 1970s, extending a trend fueled by human-caused global warming,” Reuters asserted on October 2.________________________________________http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=22362

NASA Sees Arctic Ocean Circulation Do an About-FaceNovember 13, 2007
PASADENA, Calif. – A team of NASA and university scientists has detected an ongoing reversal in Arctic Ocean circulation triggered by atmospheric circulation changes that vary on decade-long time scales. The results suggest not all the large changes seen in Arctic climate in recent years are a result of long-term trends associated with global warming.
http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2007-131
According to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Polar Research Group, northern hemispheric sea ice continues to make a solid comeback as we head toward winter.
The sea ice area in the northern hemisphere has almost reached the level it was last year at this same time.
At the end of October, the sea ice anomaly was almost 3 million sq. km below normal, now it is about 1.2 million sq. km below normal, but that number seems to be stabilizing now, similar to last year.
Here is the link to the latest sea ice area chart for the northern hemisphere. Here is the latest anomaly chart that goes back to 1979.
Now to the southern hemisphere
Total southern hemisphere sea ice area continues to shrink as the summer approaches down there.
Sea ice area is now averaging close to normal, but is still running a little bit higher than last year at this time.
At the beginning of October there was about 1 million sq. km more sea ice compared to normal, while that number is closer to 200,000 sq. km now.
Here is a link to the latest southern hemispheric sea ice area chart and the anomaly graph.

The Facts
Global warming occurs in cycles caused mainly by changes in the sun’s energy output and the sun’s relative position to the Earth.
Major Causes of Global Temperature Shifts
(1) Astronomical Causes• 11 year and 206 year cycles: Cycles of solar variability ( sunspot activity )
• 21,000 year cycle: Earth’s combined tilt and elliptical orbit around the Sun ( precession of the equinoxes )
• 41,000 year cycle: Cycle of the +/- 1.5° wobble in Earth’s orbit ( tilt)
• 100,000 year cycle: Variations in the shape of Earth’s elliptical orbit ( cycle of eccentricity)
(2) Atmospheric Causes• Heat retention: Due to atmospheric gases, mostly gaseous water vapor (not droplets), also carbon dioxide, methane, and a few other miscellaneous gases — the “greenhouse effect”
• Solar reflectivity: Due to white clouds, volcanic dust, polar ice caps
(3) Tectonic Causes• Landmass distribution: Shifting continents (continental drift) causing changes in circulatory patterns of ocean currents. It seems that whenever there is a large land mass at one of the Earth’s poles, either the north pole or south pole, there are ice ages.
• Undersea ridge activity: “Sea floor spreading” (associated with continental drift) causing variations in ocean displacement.

The Facts
Global warming is something that has been happening for a long time. The temperature of the Earth has been increasing more or less continuously since the time of the cave man.
Approximately 18,000 years ago the Earth began a gradual process of warming up after more than 100,000 years of Ice Ages. Much of North America, Europe, and Asia lay buried beneath great sheets of glacial ice.
By about 15,000 years ago the Earth had warmed sufficiently to halt the advance of glaciers, and sea levels worldwide began to rise.
By 8,000 years ago the land bridge across the Bering Strait was drowned, cutting off the migration of men and animals to North America.
Since the end of the Ice Age, Earth’s temperature has risen approximately 16 degrees F and sea levels have risen a total of 300 feet! Forests have returned where once there was only ice. From a geological perspective, global warming is the normal state of our accustomed natural world. Technically, we are in an “interglacial phase,” or between ice ages. The question is not really if an ice age will return, but when.
Don’t panic when you hear global alarmists warning the Earth may have warmed almost 1 degree in the last 200 years. Although this still hasn’t yet been proven, it is in fact exactly what should be happening if everything is normal.
If global warming stops, then you can start worrying! It means our warm interglacial phase is over and we may be heading into another Ice Age!

Northwest Passage Free of Ice in 1903
For instance, a name media would love for global warming alarmists not to know is Roald Amundsen, a Norwegian explorer who successfully navigated the Northwest Passage on August 26, 1905 (h/t Walt Bennett, Jr.):
The North West Passage was done. My boyhood dream – at that moment it was accomplished. A strange feeling welled up in my throat; I was somewhat over-strained and worn – it was weakness in me – but I felt tears in my eyes. ‘Vessel in sight’ … Vessel in sight.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this Passage was clear enough of ice for a wooden sailboat, with a crew of seven, to successfully navigate it more than 100 years ago. How many times in the history of the planet do you think a similar – or even more ice-free – condition existed in this area?
http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/09/09/reports-record-arctic-ice-melt-disgracefully-ignore-history
Not that the media cares, but this Passage was also conquered several times in the 1940s (emphasis added):
Built for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force to serve as a supply ship for isolated, far-flung Arctic RCMP detachments, St. Roch was also designed to serve when frozen in for the winter, as a floating detachment, with its constables mounting dog sled patrols from the ship.
Between 1929 and 1939 St. Roch made three voyages to the Arctic. Between 1940 and 1942 St. Roch navigated the Northwest Passage, arriving in Halifax harbor on October 11, 1942.
St. Roch was the second ship to make the passage, and the first to travel the passage from west to east. In 1944, St. Roch returned to Vancouver via the more northerly route of the Northwest Passage, making her run in 86 days.
The epic voyages of St. Roch demonstrated Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic during the difficult wartime years, and extended Canadian control over its vast northern territories.
Putting it all together, when you consider that serious monitoring of Arctic ice levels only started in 1972, and that explorers successfully navigated these seas in relatively archaic ships 60 and 100 years ago, how can anybody honestly claim that today’s conditions in this region are in any way unprecedented, historic, or grim?
Beyond this, as the planet entered a warming phase in 1975, isn’t it not at all surprising that ice levels in this area are lower now than then? Wouldn’t an honest media always point out the existence of this trend rather than presenting data exclusively from this period that conveniently ignores everything prior?
Sadly, this is the disingenuousness we see from today’s press which continually make hysterical historical claims that intentionally ignore historical facts.
How disgraceful.

Do you get off on obcessions often Max?? Or did you just change trick ponies for the day?
LOL
Yes, I know, it is close to an ad hominem, but I just couldnt help myself!
:.,
When cosmos plagues the blog with posts about man made Global Warming it is alright.
When Max posts about why what Cosmos posts is wrong it is an obsession?
At least Max posts on things other than Global Warming.
That is practically all we get from Cosmos.
No matter what I post, some bitch anyway.
There is another side to the Global Warming side, but the powers on Earth are closing the door on hearing anything other than the party line.
You :: walk in lock-step too?
So, how are my obsessions different then Cosmos or anyone else?
Ok, back to Hillary next.
Thanks Nathan.
I’m changing my obsession topic back to Hillary though. (Will continue to watch every ice berg though. GW people have tracked and counted ice bergs and cubes since 1972 and each berg/cube represents a long-term trend)
2nd Amendment obsession is on hold, pending Supreme Court review of the case.
May move on to modified flat taxes next or social security solutions.
Alternative energy would be another obession, but all the libs want to do is conserve our way out of the problem by banning cars and shutting down industry, and eliminating jobs. (Don’t need to work in a Socialist world anyway)
Speaking of conservation, I wonder how many Global Warming believers have turned their furnace on already this Fall? Anyone walking/biking to work yet? Car pooling? Naw…
My trucks to train idea didn’t fly either, too much conservation eliminates Teamster jobs. Can’t have that.
Freedom and a strong national defense are no longer important either. Just open up the borders, wait for attacks, and plan on reactive wars. Pre-emptive wars are too Politically Incorrect. Who cares if several thousand American civilians get killed in the next few attacks?
1st Amendment rights are no more important to Libs then the 2nd Amendment or any of the other Bill of Rights. Can we say “Fairness Doctrine”? Skipping that topic too – off limits.
Common Beliefs for all Americans? Forget that too.
Can’t even agree on dogs around here.
Max,
Thank you for your anti-AGW posts and links. They will be “interesting” reading in the future.
Unfortunately for you, your spin, denials, and lies do NOT change reality — human-added CO2, nitrous oxide, methane, etc ARE causing global warming.
Cosmos, you are about the most close minded person I’ve encountered.
Your way or the highway.
You are wrong! No, YOU are wrong!
Cosmos and Global Warming. Same Posts, Different Day.
Max,
Only a very stupid mind would consider Sen Inhofe, Heartland, Newsbusters, etc to be credible scientific sources.
Cosmos, only a very stupid mind would fail to look at the original source of the articles cited within the sites you automatically discount.
For example:
If you think there was no open Northwest Passage twice in the early 1900’s, then look it up using the PC source of your choice.
Or just keep up your baseless attacks on anyone that has an opinion different then your own.
Oh, and NASA was a bad source too.
What do they call it when Big Brother allows only certain reading materials to be available AND throws you in jail for reading from non-approved sources and for not speaking the party line?
Communism.
Then, Max, why was it such a huge story when the NW passage was staying open this year?? And it was big news in US, and in foreign press — so dont blame it on the liberals –
cosmos is either a paid member GORACLE hit squad or someone who is incurably insane. There can be no other reason for a hyperlink posting numb mind like his.

Because it only happened twice in the 20th century and I guess for the first time in the 21st century. Uncommon events, however, they do happen and have happened. The first two had nothing to do with man-made climate change and the third doesn’t either.
I think the first story I heard about it from was a Brit paper…
And the Russians were all over the story, cause they want the oil under the North Pole spot…
And all of those stories said it was the first time that an entire NW Passage could be made in Winter months… And the sad thing is, you know this as well as anybody else — You choose to post only old news.
You choose to post only old news.

So we should forget everything that has happened 15 years ago or longer right?
I see…
Then cosmos GW Alarmist stories have no legs if he can only use the past 15 years.

YOU want to call someone insane?
McC? JM? “kansas”?
I could fill this space wall to wall 24 7 for the next 3 weeks with your insane ramblings from the past.
Max? For something as world changing as global warming could be, I think we best err on the side of caution don’t you?
You do like testing the waters don’t you J R?
Why not post your real name on this blog and see how comfortable you get.
This makes the third entry of the day where you are back to your old terrorist ways.
Since you obviously cannot deal with me intellectually, you have to use thug tactics.
Congratulations on being one of the blog thugs J R.
Your momma will be proud – not.
Max,
I did not say that NASA was a bad source.Emphasis added for the reading-impaired.

More from Max’s “hyperlink”,
“Morison cautioned that while the recent decadal-scale changes in the circulation of the Arctic Ocean may not appear to be directly tied to global warming, most climate models predict the Arctic Oscillation will become even more strongly counterclockwise in the future. “The events of the 1990s may well be a preview of how the Arctic will respond over longer periods of time in a warming world,” he said.”
Now THAT’s funny. Kansas woofing all day about others. And how many times has he been banned? I think we’ll be treated to another James meltdown soon. He’s headed that direction. Again.
Isn’t there some sort of three strikes and you are out rule here?
It must be ten strikes and out for Kansas. He’d been banned or reprimaned at least that many times.
Spew away you sad and lonely old man. Every time you post, another liberal angel gets its wings.

Liberals don’t believe in God remember?
There isn’t a possibility that any of them will be getting wings.
Ahoy maties! James will be melting down soon. Man the life boats and prepare to abandon ship. Just like his family did.
So NO liberals believe in God now?
Comes kookoo “kansas” NOW to judge and denounce literaly millions of people.
I think ya called it JM. The fuse is definitely lit. Musta been a lonely holiday.

Meltdown? I don’t think so.
Does that kfg person post here anymore under kfg?
How about CapnAmerica? Is he having problems posting under his typepad name? :)
Did the Libs have to come up with the multiple nic “JM” so they could stay in the game because they are rank amateurs and fold under pressure so quickly.
Exchanged email lately? Does yas needs to gossips sum more? hahahaha!
J R
Just look at any evolution thread, it is extremely clear Libs don’t believe in God. They might believe in a ‘god’ of convenience when it suits them.
The Libs definitely do not believe in a Deity. They only believe in a “talking points’ ‘god’
See? That’s EXACTLY how the world looks to “kansas”.
SOME liberals are atheists.
So ALL liberals do no believe in a deity.
Is Chris Hitchens a liberal “kansas”?
Oh that’s right! He agrees with you on SOME things.
Why JM, I’m surprised you are so hostile to another JM. And I thought you said nic switching was an acceptable practice on this blog. You and the other cons do it all the time.
I guess since you are so lonely and crabby, I’ll go enjoy a nice meal with my family, have a drink, return some calls to my friends.
Too bad you can’t do the same.
I think we just as well have conservative JMs to go along with the flock of liberal loser JMs. It’s all like Elvis impersonators.
We could call it “the battle of the JMs”, and combined, we could all be even dumber sounding than the liberal JMs are now, if that is possible.
How about CapnAmerica? Is he having problems posting under his typepad name? :)
*****
No, I’m not.
Kansas, I’ve been doing my level best not to respond to your baiting.
Why don’t you get a CLUE and quit annoying me?
Get it, douchebag?
BTW, it’s type OVER your type pad name . . .
I see the Liberal Sewing Circle and skirt wearing Gossip crew was getting all upset. Perhaps I should leave them be so they can email each other and cuddle up. :)
Let’s all post as JM’s and make this a really loser blog.
Good idee kansas.
punk up every one. we can be losers too!
Melt down for us Kansas!
First all liberals are atheists. Now all Democrats are devil worshiping scourges.
Only arm flailer here is you.
Tell us again of your adventures in the fighter plane. Or maybe the one where you are gonna burn down the blog. Did vengeful bloggers tp your car?
They’re coming to take you away.
Wow they pulled your post calling all Democrats arm flailing devil worshiping scourges “kansas”.
They are coming to take you away.
Interestingly, they did pull my posts and those by the poster “:.”
However, what I said wasn’t directed towards an individual like what CapnAmerica, JM and J R do on an hourly basis.
I guess the typepad monitor doesn’t know the difference between free speech and personal attacks.
see the sock puppet ballet is back. ?

Yes JM (I mean JR and Capn America), we can ALL see that you are back at it.
Save the world yet?
It would be nice if people could just discuss ideas and opinions without it getting so mean, insulting, and personal. What’s the point? I guess it must feel powerful to insult and put down those who see things differently…sad.

Mary, I don’t know you. This is the second time you’ve posted following me.
I take it another Pat Herron was here at one time, when I was not.
Because I will need a little more background before I can thoroughly insult you.
1. Is your income $18K a year?2. Do you have two children?3. Is your husband not working?4. Did you receive an EIC for 2006?
Answer the above questions and I’ll take it from there. And for goodness sake, maybe you can get over whatever my NIC stealing twin posted.
No to all the above. And I find it sad that you claim you’re a Christian and yet you seem to delight in insulting people. WWJD?
I can be a Christian with evil characteristics. If any of us say we are without sin – we are lying!
New questions:
1. Do you have many friends?2. Do you have trouble finding your way home at night?3. Are these questions too difficult for you?
Welcome to my Parrish. Chas. is one of my fellow servants.
WWJD?
Is that question TOO difficult for you?
“The justices of the Supreme Court do not need to hear the tired anti-choice rhetoric of these groups in order to decide these important legal issues.”

I really doubt that Jesus would waste one iota of his time on this earth – blogging.
Then why are you here?
Anyway, are you saying that it wasn’t you who said those things about me?
Yeah, right!
Pat-David-Kansas insult so many people so regularly that they can’t keep track of all of them.

If you are going to count every ice berg and ice cube in weekly reports as they melt, then you need to be consistent and also count every ice berg and ice cube in weekly reports as they freeze and grow this winter.
If you can use your weekly counts to prove global warming, then weekly counts can be done to prove global cooling.

Kansas, the GW people will now twist their models to reflect an open Northwest passage in the early 1900’s and the 1940’s. It’s easy to set-up a model to predict the past. Hindsight is perfect every time.

No, and know one else KNOWS either.

If you would be honest about it, you would post some specific solutions, instead of saying your going to cut greenhouse gas emissions by X%.

Max, I may well post a few zingers from time to time… But nothing obscene, or nothing having to do with humans looking for fecal matter to “snarf up”; or homophobic reiterations such as Kansas and his “butt buddies” phraseology… Such things might be considered comical in some places… But this Blog shouldnt be one of those places, and, they are NOT comical… They are the sign of some very sick minds around this Blog…
So, Max, remember that every time one of your little right wing pals starts spewing out a bunch of garbage about other people’s vocations… and any of that other trash that passes for “adult” conversation… And maybe all you RW can get together, and see how you can do something about making this place a decent place to Blog, and not have to look at a bunch of vile garbage thrown out as whatever kind of communication you are calling it this week!!
There isnt ANYthing discussed on this Blog that is that important, that the Pat Herron’s and the Kansas’s types should be allowed to keep on posting here when they dont like something somebody says!!
Nobody has died and left them, OR you, God!! I think Parkay has that spot taken all for him/her self! LOL
I just think we need to clean this place up a little bit!!
And I have complained to management as well… and will continue to do so!!
One has to wonder why “butt buddies” bothers Chas so much eh?
It was a term I heard as a kid for kids on a school bus. That is, one butt sitting next to another, “butt buddies.”
But Chas, in his own warped mind somehow construes it to be homosexual.
Isn’t that odd?
You spin so much, you gotta get dizzy old fool!!
Max? I like you.I can’t help you.
